I've noticed apparent errors with flight dynamics from 25 yrs ago. For example, if I flew with a 10kt tail wind @ 120 kts IAS/TAS (at low level) my GS would naturally read 130 kts. However, if I turned 180*, my IAS would reduce and stabilise at 100 kts (-10-10). Nothing to do with increased resistance in a turn in those days. I understand that this would be true of my GS, but not my IAS. It's as though I was on the ground in a car with a windsock/anemometer, not in an aircraft being carried with the wind. Tonight I noticed in my new ATR that when I was cruising @ FL150 on AP in a crosswind from the right, although the plane tracked the Nav selected, it was constantly banked slightly to the left. I travel regularly by air and I have NEVER noticed being angled slightly because of even a strong crosswind. Have I misunderstood something about the difference between flying in a wind and being in a car with the wind in my 80s New-Romantic hairdo?
