Just wait until you've had it a while and you discover how wear and tear works on the plane, its incredible. Things like spark plug management, pre warming the engine, the effects of dirty oil. It really is as close to having your own aircraft, without the hassle of time sharing and real world expenses. The pushback feature is total genius!
If you want to fly real world procedures this is the aircraft you want, absolutely perfect for circuits, stable approaches, dme arcs etc.
I would have been happy if it was double the cost and I wish that A2A programmed the whole simulator!

I'm late to this party as well. Just got it a few weeks ago but haven't played it much so interested in this video. The problem with the flight sim community is that lots of old videos so I appreciate when people do new reviews for aircraft that have been around a while.

To give you an example of exactly how deep this goes ... I flew nothing else for several weeks after getting it so I was very familiar with how it should sound and perform. Over a period of about a week I slowly started to think it didn't sound QUITE as smooth as it had, and it wasn't QUITE as fast as it was. I ran the inspections after every flight and there was never a problem, not even fouled plugs.
I was about an hour into a flight cruising at 2500' 22" 2200 RPM which is a very normal cruise setting for me. Normally I can pull the gas back to 11 gph and cruise all day at ~170mph. The weather for this one was pretty ordinary, above 10c and sunny but I spent a lot of time flying through thin and occasionally thick clouds. Suddenly, alerted by the trim screaming at me to crank it up, I realised the airspeed was down to about 100 and dropping. Banging the power and mixture forward didn't do much so I tried full carb heat and all was well again. Sounds like carb ice, right ? I'd heard (and confirmed in the manual) that carb ice shows in the analyser so I had a look and no, no carb ice. Carb heat had to stay on for the remainder of the flight, every time I turned it off the engine immediately almost stopped so whatever it was didn't go away.
As I was approaching the runway to land I pulled the power back and the Engine Monitor started red flashing CLD which I've never seen before. In fact it's not even in the A2A POH, I had to go back to the real world manual for the EDM-830 to see what it was - it's a warning about shock cooling, something was cooling at 66F / minute (normal is 40-60) which can crack a cylinder. That was unexpected !
When I was parked I ran the inspections in the tablet and there was almost no compression in cylinder 6. It's been low in a couple, but not that one, that cylinder had always looked totally fine. The message that came with it said the cylinder probably had worn rings or valves and would still produce full power but it would use oil and I might notice some roughness at low RPM. I'll say I did, had I really had carb icing or did the cylinder drop its guts in the middle of the flight ? So I went outside and dipped the oil. Well, what was left of it, which wasn't much.
Then things started to click into place. The analyser had shown oil smoke from the cylinder 6 when I looked during the flight. I hadn't thought much of it because the EA in the POH also shows oil smoke from one cylinder and I figured it was normal. There have been absolutely zero signs of any problems in the pre- and post-flight checks, but I'd been thinking for half a dozen flights that the plane just didn't sound as smooth as it used to while it wound up for takeoff, and the cruise has been unenthusiastic enough to make me check for headwinds. What I have to conclude - and I'm absolutely blown away by this -is that cylinder 6 had been slowly failing for a real world week. It wasn't broken enough to show up as a problem in an inspection but it was broken enough to make the plane not sound or fly right, and it got slowly and noticeably worse - OVER THE COURSE OF A WEEK !!! - even though the tablet was showing no problems, until it failed.
I am truly in awe. I think I bought the Comanche within 15 minutes of it releasing (spot the old A2A customer LOL), I hope not to be so slow to get the Aerostar when it releases.

@@Huddison The Comanche is the first plane where I've left failures on, I sim to fly and gawp at the scenery, not to follow non-normal checklists. But it seemed sacrilege to turn them off in this. I was expecting to encounter a blown bulb or a popped circuit breaker or something, but really ? The first failure I get is a blown out cylinder, marked by a warning light I have to to download a real world manual to diagnose, which slowly failed and noticeably and increasingly affected the plane for at least 12 real hours of sim flying without being bad enough to even register as a problem then suddenly let go ? That's just insane. When I'm flying this now I pay attention to any changes in the engine note. I know how it should perform and I notice when it doesn't. I scan ALL of the gauges every couple of minutes. I get genuinely twitchy about flying over open water. There's no other plane in the sim that comes even close to this.

This is also my experience with this beautyful aircraft. I totally agree, that if you fly this aircraft for a while, you will be able to hear the difference and the wear and tear of the engine. My first fault was one of the very rare ones, where the oil pump fails... however, before it happend, I had the same experience like @ceegnz mentioned. I felt that something didn't sound right and the aircraft was behaving differently then usually. Unfortunately it happened in the middle of nowhere and I had to perform an emergency landing on a field. It felt so real. This is by far the most detailed GA aircraft for MSFS2020 and not the easiest one to fly. Landings are most of the times a big challenge, because even the ground effects are modelled so well. I love this aircraft ❤

@@thomaspichelmann You were lucky you had a field ! That's another thing that I only ever do in the Comanche - I don't just admire the scenery in this one, I keep looking for places I could land if I had to.

This video appeared at the right time. I am on a prowl to get a new plane. I haven't been able to pull the trigger on the 777 yet (I am concerned that the long-haul is not for me). That Comanche looks the part. I am already flying the C414, the C182RG and the P34T Seneca. I love these (maybe, I am just a GA kinda guy). I think the Comanche will be the next one in my hangar. Thank you Huddison for the recommendation.

It's still he overall best, in my opinion, but I love The Duke, DA42, etc. I feel like creators really had to raise their game after this came out. Best aircraft I’ve bought for the Xbox, I fly it every day and every time it can be a different experience even when doing the same route day after day.
The wing flexing in rough weather along with the sun visor dropping in air pockets make it the more immersive.
I’ve had rags in the air intake, I’ve run out of fuel because I didn’t fill up after the last flight and I even had to use the emergency undercarriage handle because the switch wasn’t working.

Thanks for the video, I've had the Comanche for a few months now. Some observations 1) It's hard to slow down, as it's a very slippery aircraft, so you need to think ahead 2) the simulation is so good you won't want to fly any other GA aircraft, because they're just not in the same league. It's remarkable 3) the realism makes for very interesting flying. Carburettor icing etc etc!

Great AC in the sim or real life. While the gear can do down below 150mph most of us paying upkeep bills try to put it down at 125mph or less to save wear and tear on the gear motor. The A2A version properly models the challenge of slowing down such a clean aircraft and the need for good planning on descents and pattern work. It lands with much less trim at 2/3rds flaps 85mph final heavy vs full flaps at 82mph. With the low to ground wing, raising flaps before heavy breaking is important to avoid wheel lockups. The sim Comanche brakes are a lot better than the real ones.

This plane has a lot of top-notch features. Excellent sounds, good handbook, excellent tablet, great visuals, but I don’t like how hard it is to maintain an attitude and the landing technique is way too difficult. It’s one of the few I have to trim constantly to keep it consistent in descent. Landings are almost never very good either. The flight dynamics are probably closest to how a real aircraft handles, however, the effect of wind on a plane in this sim is so exaggerated that it’s just ridiculous. So you try to point to the nose down the runway and aileron into the wind, but you’ll almost always look like a toy trying to get down comfortably. In the Black Square aircraft, they look visually better, and most of all, they are so much easier to land. I can land them like a real plane with much less struggle. I think it comes down to stability. You don’t fight with the BlackSquare GA airplanes nearly as much. They actually glide through the air, whereas the A2A is just a constant battle with the yoke to maintain stability.

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  15 дней назад

It is certainly a handful to land; they constantly keep updating it, so I can see further improvements forthcoming.
