Consider myself so lucky to have been born and bred Eastbourne 1958 and growing up in the town in those years before greedy shortsighted councils formed the town it has become which is not comparible in any way shape or form to the town shown in the film and not one that will ever be seen again .
hi there, went to school there in 1964 Carlisle Rd, Southdown buses ruled the area and the Royal Sovereighn light ship could be heard in foggy weather. Bobbys was a great dept store.
Is it possible to do an unstretched version? I can’t get this to show the right shape. I might have been there! I remember Uncle Bertie mostly for his enormous model railway at the Winter Gardens c1966. But please let’s see this slice of history the right shape!
With flooding increasing during high tides in the 1980s and early 90s and with rising sea levels, they import shingle using dredgers every year now and pump thousands of tons onto all the beaches to stop the sea reaching the prom as it used to. It has to be done every year as the strong tides wash much of it down the coast towards Dungeness. This has covered most of the sand except during the lowest tides
What was the Seaside one? The Picturedrome? I saw Lawrence of Arabia there as a rerelease so 1964 or 5. I can’t think of a sixth. Rather long film for a ten year old.
Tivoli, Manhattan (Seaside Rd), ABC, Curzon, Elysium (Seaside). There used to be one in Old Town where the Star brewery was but it closed around 1940 but the building was there into the 1960s. The Regal was in Seaside and is still standing. The Classic in Trinity Place where the car park is now, closed in 1965
@@TheAndrewJBaker For me, remebrance of days past is he Floyd soundtracked 'Crystal Voyager' and 'Soldier Blue' c. early '70s for me ( the greengrocer next to it? And just further down the road the convenient sweetshop, then onto the junk shop for all its Marvel comics at 6d!)
Bring back the fountains, and the redoubt, and the bandstand, and the boats in Princes Park, and the model village, and the sun lounge, etc.
Don't forget the trams!
Wonderful nostalgia! Thank you. If only the town was still like this...🤥

How nice to hear 'sun trap' and not 'killer sun'
@1:50, the girls were fit & energetic back then.
surprised to see sand at eastbourne back then? no sand now nor in hastings or bexhill.
Pevensey bay has plenty of sand
the tide was out- they filmed it when the sand was exposed- that's why they said the sand was wet for the sandcastles. Not normally visible.

Very nostalgic. Eastbourne is now a shadow of its past. Too many hotels accommodating illegal immigrants
Lifestyle choices different then, not much over weight people.
SIX cinemas in '66? Where were they all then (Curzon, ABC, Tivoli, the mid Seaside rd one &..? )
