Curtis, 56, retired U.S. Navy.. rented an airbnb for the month of January 2023 in Eastbourne. I probably won't need to go down this path, but I will be doing the daily cliffside hikes. THANKS for the cool video.
Having mobility issues I could never do this journey but after watching this video its like I went with you. It's amazing, thank you so much. Looking forward fo what's to come.
This video is amazing, for years I have wanted to get as close as you have to Beachy Head Lighthouse but I have never been sure of the way/risk of walking alone. Thank you so much for sharing, the way you have filmed it is like every watcher is walking along beside you.
I used to go fossil hunting in the cliffs under Beachy Head in the late 1960's, as a kid. Rule number one was only at low tide! The lighthouse was manned back then and the lighthouse keepers often greeted us.
I’m born and bred in Eastbourne and the golden rule for a trip to the lighthouse is to set off from the cafe next to Bede’s prep school approx 1 - 1.5 hours BEFORE low tide. Whilst your making your way to the lighthouse the tide will still be going out, by the time you get to the lighthouse you can enjoy a decent amount of time taking photos etc. as the tide turns, giving you plenty of time to make your way back safely.
I did not start before low tide, I started shortly after high tide, went down all the way to the beach and then waited for half an hour or so watching the sea and making sure that the tide was actually going down. That gives you most time if ever there is an incident or so. It was back in 1999, three months after a huge cliff fall and the beach was full of rocks, piled up to about 3 or 4 metres. The rocks went all the way to the foot of the light house.
@@mandagrogu929 It took me about 2 hours to walk along the beach from Cow Gap to the light house, and another 2 hours back. If you start early enough, 2 or 3 hours after high tide, you could arrive at the light house 2 hours or so before low tide. This should give you 2 hours or so you can spent safely around the light house. It all depends a bit on how fast you can hike in this difficult terrain. But if you start the return at the tabulated hour of low tide, you should be safe.
last weekend i build up a load of boulder under the steps to make it easier, also now just by the lighthouse somebody has made driftwood art very cool.
Ive recently been talking to myself about visiting the bottom of beachy head for less than good reasons. So I'm extremely surprised that ive been recommended this.
I walked along to this lighthouse while on holiday a month ago, unfortunately left it to late and wasnt able to get up to the lighthouse, Ill leave earlier next time, got some amazing photographs though :) Definitely worth the walk! Hard going towards the end not for the faint hearted! Good Video!
@@Tristandewet Visiting Eastbourne tomorrow for three nights, going to give it another go, Low tide is around 10:30am over the next few days, will walk over at 09:30 and have a look :) Wish me luck!
Amazing, thank you so much for this great video! Quick question if I may - how long roughly did it take you to get from the car park or your starting point to all the way to the lighthouse ? Asking because, I would like to plan how long one would need for the whole trip - many thanks again.
All that you have to do, is to just have the music and the sounds of the environment, and some more overdone camera angles to show off the land. Angles like the one in the thumbnail, a low perspective, enlarging the size of the beach, cliff and lighthouse, whilst somehow making you appear smaller instead of larger.
I would say try to get to the lighthouse at the lowest point in the tide as like 2 hours on either end of low tide will be more than a enough time to walk to it 👍🏼
I’d say give your self an hour and 20 mins from there and roughly the same back depending on how quick you walk. The shoreline is not to bad it’s pretty rocky but not to difficult just take it easy and slow as they are slippery. Make sure to check the tide times and try to arrive at the lighthouse for low tide as it gives you plenty of time to chill there and walk back 👍🏼
Great Video was going to attempt to do this last weekend but never made it. When you walk from Eastbourne are there any signposts to help you find the way ? Many Thanks
If you are coming from eastbourne I would say try to stay on the left paths at all times, just keep the sea on your left and you'll eventually find the path down :)
@@Tristandewet Did the walk yesterday even though high tide would prevent me getting to the lighthouse Didn't see your post until I got home :-) but found the way no problem thanks & walked up Beachy Head instead, tough (out of condition haha) but well worth it. Legs aching today & head is burnt but glad I went.
@@Tristandewet I was amazed just how steep it was to be honest, I've not done a lot of walking for the last two years due to family illness & covid but now I'm able to get out & about again I need to step it up to stop my legs complaining haha
Hi there are a few places you could park, there is by the Bedes school on the road, or there is up at the beach head car park and then just walk down from there! :)
Lovely walk but I think people should be very clearly warned about the danger of being cut off by the tide down there. I've often walked along the path on the cliffs above, to Birling Gap.

Went today at low tide, was very windy so couldn’t reach the lighthouse‘s stairs. But was a beautiful tour, thanks for your video ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Did this walk today. Really gorgeous. Thanks for the info!

Maybe 1.5 hours one way if you take it easy I’d say 👌🏼

Beautiful lighthouse 👌🏻
Samsara painted it myself ;)
Seems like a scene in a film.

You say about low tide, but any idea what height of low tide is safe as it can vary massively.

How long did it take to walk from falling sands steps to light house, how hard would you grade the shore line path ?
I’d say give your self an hour and 20 mins from there and roughly the same back depending on how quick you walk. how long is it from beach front steps to lighthouse on this route? Ta

Definitely, it is a lovely walk still!
Nice video. Not the best shoes for walking over the rocks though 🤣
Thank you! Yep definitely chose the wrong footwear 😂
Cute!
Thanks!
Did you do this on your gap yah?
No I went to university in Eastbourne 🤙🏼
Of all the footwear you could've chosen and you picked vans?
Surely a decent pair of hiking shoes would be more suitable.
lots of walking and backwards and forwards for the camera
haha yes! Tried to show the views off haha
