It really annoys me when you feel like you have to go up to the staff in the restaurant to remind them you're there and ask for the next course. How is that allowed to happen in a 5 star establishment!
Exactly. I hate it when they show you to your seat and then ignore you, no menus, no drinks.... I get to the point of counting down from 10 to 1, then I walk out if I haven't been served at all. Then, as in one case, they followed me, blustering away.

Hi Tim. I took my father to the Grand Hotel for a 10-day holiday back in 2008. Yes it is expensive but I wanted to give dad a luxury stay. The dinners were spectacular but after 10 days I was craving beans on toast! One thing I still remember are the really delicious scones that were freshly baked daily by the chef...fantastic. Sadly Dad passed away the next year, but I will always treasure memories of our stay at 'The Grand Hotel'. By the way, when we stayed there the furniture was very old and worse for wear, and it appears they upgraded the furniture after reviews mentioned that fact in the otherwise brilliant reviews.
So sorry for your loss, but you will always have that holiday to look back on and cherish those simple moments of just being together! I happened to spend the last year with both my parents before everything changed. Mum had dementia so I left my dream job to look after her as she would still have known if she had been put in a home and I had promised her when I was 16 that I would look after her, and ended up looking after both my parents. Sadly though after about 9 months, mum had to go into a home and dad soon after went into hospital, dad passed a few months later and mum passed during 2021 lockdowns. I always look back on that time as being my special time with them as I knew this was the last time I would be with them together. Wonderful memories of our last year! I wish you all the best:)
Thank you for your reply. I am very sorry for the loss of your parents. Our Mum died at home in 1982 from cancer, She was 61 years old. We, together with many thousands of family carers have shared the experience of looking after our loved ones at home so that they could remain in familiar surroundings for as long as they could. Looking back now, they were extremely special times and even though there were sleepless nights and distressing times near the end of our parents' lives, I feel privileged to have had that time with them. They had looked after me as i was growing up and i was just returning the favour, with love. I miss them every day and I would do it all again in a heartbeat. I wish you all the very best too.
@@joallen5173 your sentiments about your parents was exactly the same as mine, they had cared for, loved and protected me so it was me returning it back. I was SO blessed with my parents, to have such wonderful memories growing up seems to be rare these days....we seemed to both have been blessed and I am a strong and loving person because of their love for me. Blessings to you:)
I agree, for £725 a night I would expect far more. A proper fridge (on a stand or plinth) a mini bar (complementary). Far more modern furniture, a proper walk in wardrobe. Larger tv's. A far nicer cooked breakfast (no burnt toast) and a decent level of service for dinner (no excessive waiting between courses) Given the amount of people that I could see at dinner, the excessive waiting between courses was unforgivable and worthy of complaint. Nope, for that sort of money I would not be returning. (or even going! lol)
In the past I often dined out as a single and found that I was always left till last to serve. Once I was shown to a table that the previous occupants had vacated and it hadn't even been cleared or cleaned yet ! I went to a carvery once and when it was my time to go up to the servery to get my food it turned out they had run out of roast potatoes. When I asked if I could speak to the manager they said he had gone out.
£725?! That's nuts... especially when the bathroom looks like the best part of the hotel. Definitely doesn't look or feel like a 5-star experience!! I mean, the decor, the pool room and the corridors literally give me "The Grand Hotel Scarborough" vibes.
That is bonkers! I usually stay in AirBnBs when I go away, you get a full house or flat for under £200 a night, easy! And then you've got money left over to eat out at different restaurants and cafes
My dad used to take us all to The Grand in the early 70’s for Sunday lunch. It was 30 shillings (Pds 1.50 now) per head in those days and the desert we all went for was Rum and Hot Chocolate Bombe!! The outdoor pool is still the same as is the interior. We spent Christmas there in 1973! It was part of De Vere hotels in those days. I remember that narrow lift! A great vlog which took me down memory lane.
i always loved how real you are, saying stuff like your shirts are too small really goes to show you’re not afraid to be real and are always honest. best reviewer ever
I know what you mean Tim, about the old 'Nan' style furniture in the Grand Suite but I quite like that style. It has a different type of 'vibe' from modern furnishings and even though it doesn't look as nice on a superficial level, it creates a different type of atmosphere, like a quaint English Country Manor.
Hey Tim. I used to work here over 20 years ago as a chambermaid and it’s the hardest job I’ve ever had 😂 I can confirm it’s haunted! I saw a ghost on the 3rd floor during my time there. A tall fuzzy figure dragging a red blanket! But my word what a stunning , beautiful old building !
I was raised in a house with mostly antique furniture. I think it's kind of quaint and charming. The bathroom is beautiful and I like the colors on the walls.
What struck me as I watched this was that it's not actually hugely dissimilar from the 'worst rated' hotel in Scarborough 😅 it's got the same grand style, the same old furniture and decor etc. It's obviously been maintained better but I'm not sure if I'd consider it a 5 star hotel by modern standards. The bathroom was the best bit as its been refurbed, although that blind doesn't leave anything to the imagination! 😂
I feel like a lot of these places dine out on the vintage aspect of their hotels, but don't bring the standards in line with what people expect of a modern 5 star experience. You can keep the old style decor and feel of a place, but you have to be aware of what modern hotels are offering and at least match that, especially for 700+ quid!
Should've gone to specsavers whoever rated this 5 stars how much!! Not worth that amount but doesn't look too bad the grand in scarborough is far worse. Xxliz
Only discovered your channel 2 days ago and I'm binge watching!! They are brilliant. The Butlins ones brings back so many memories from 30 years ago! Never traveled abroad and probably never will be able to but this channel allows me to travel through your videos and get that snippet of what these holidays would of been like. Thank you so much! Your channel is just brilliant ❤
We’ve stayed at The Grand 3 times. The most recent was 2 weeks ago in their recently-refurbished Superior Deluxe room. Much more modern decor and bathroom, and these rooms have A/C. There are 28 of these rooms which have been refurbished to a very high standard; presumably over the next few years they will gradually refurbish the remaining rooms, which are dated. We stayed in a junior suite once, and aside from being bigger, the decor and bathroom were the same as their standard room; hopefully, they’ll invest more in the decor with each step up in room grade - that would tempt me to book one of the higher-grade rooms. We paid £330 per night for dinner bed and breakfast - well worth it for the experience.
😅I love this hotel. Yes it’s a little worn but it’s elegant and has great service. At Christmas the Great Hall is beautiful and the afternoon tea is gorgeous. I always feel like I’m in a Poirot episode! It’s so relaxing with a great location.
I can honestly say I gasped out loud when I heard the price Tim. I love Eastbourne and have stayed there so many times over the years (not in that hotel though!). I was lucky enough to be treated to an afternoon tea for my birthday in the Grand though which was lovely. But my goodness....how much for a night's stay with burnt toast???!!! As you would say....WOW. Breathtaking price. Brilliant filming though Tim😄 x J x
@@adamyaffe Last year I paid more than that for a single room in an hotel in Verona which didn't have a pool. Your expectations seem rather out of touch. Do you have any idea how much a 5* costs in anywhere fashionable, let alone a penthouse suite with a balcony and a view of anything other than a busy city street, whatever the sq footage of the lift?
Thank you for another great video ..... that hotel certainly was spooky .... same vibes as the hotel in THE SHINING film .... half expected to see twin girls in a corridor 😱
I love the old furniture. I think this the one used in an episode of Poirot LOVE IT! I think you defiantly need to take a suit whenever you travel. Dress codes are important in these beautiful hotels to keep some the standards up.
I go to the Grand every year with my husband for cocktails and finally stayed a night with my parents in May. They have some good deals so Tim may not have done his research properly and booked in advance. The thing that stands out is the quality of the staff. They are highly professional and friendly and always make you feel incredibly special. The lifts are beautiful. The clientele are not on the older side at all and families enjoy staying here. It’s a stunning and thrilling place to be. The ladies bathroom is elegant and you can feel the history as you move throughout the hotel. It’s an experience like no other. We love it 😍
I've been lucky to stay at The Grand Eastbourne several times and I agree with all your comments. All the different departmental staff work in harmony, not least the gardening team, with the front of house staff to provide guests with the highest standards of service. I always have a most relaxing time with excellent food 😊.
What never ceases to amaze me is just how badly done cooked breakfasts are. Under cooked often cold pallid bacon, burnt or barely toasted bread, congealed beans if a greasy spoon cafe served it you'd been annoyed but hotels seem to do it as standard.
Well I don’t mind one piece of burnt toast out of 5 as I do no people who do like burnt toast not me and that breakfast looked rank and I heard someone put they pre cook it that is why u are paying so much money for fresh good quality products
If only those walls could talk .. Outrageously over priced but the cost of running & maintaining those huge old hotels must be astronomical .. but still ... Great review Tim.
Have stayed here quite a few times over a number of years. You have chosen the dearest room. £250 for an inland facing. £350 for sea view. We always go for the sea view ones. Good hotel. Great service. Can recommend whole heartedly. Always speak up when something isn’t right. You’re paying for the service. I think the drink in the room with the fly in it was sherry. Again, call room service and complete. You’re paying for it. One of the Poirot films was made here. Thanks for the video. Enjoyed seeing it.
You're telling me you we're in Eastbourne and I didn't notice! Lived here 23 years, no idea how I didn't run into you, it isn't a big town at all. Hope you had a great time here!
I love watching your videos. My husband and I used to go on fun trips on the east coast of USA. I lost him in January so watching your travels reminds me of the fun we had.
Very appropriate for Eastbourne, the resort of choice for those of advancing years. Also, sadly, the way we in the UK tend to do hotels; everything always seems to be just a little tired and below par. Just imagine what you could get in Spain for £750 per night, i.e. £10,500 for 2 weeks!
I was thinking this. The UK doesn't really do hotels like say, the USA does. At least that's my perception outside London. They all seem very tired and for the aged.
@@kezzacollinson621Greece is amazing, i just came back there last week. Although u can find good prices/deals it also has become ridiculously expensive especially using the taxis

@@kezzacollinson621 ah that’s good, walking and using public transportation is definitely better than taxi. some drivers do rip of tourists unfortunately. i agree ever since the pandemic prices have gone up but in Greece if u look in the right places u can get a good bargain especially when it comes to food. thank you, my family and i had a great holiday, it’s really nice to travel around. i hope your holiday is going great too ☀️☺️
I have been very fortunate in my life and have been able to stay in the past at several 5 star country house hotels including Lainston house in Hampshire, Manor Oak in Castle Combe and South lodge hotel in West Sussex. (My husband used to work for the owners of these hotels and when we got married they let us stay at the hotels on our honeymoon for free, all inclusive). By comparison this hotel is decidely 2 or 3 star. It's a cross between the hotel in The Shining, an abandoned asylum and Butlins. I would say a price tag of £200 for the room and dinner maximum.
Grand old hotel with amazing views, however, I was not expecting £725 for one night! Thanks for another great review Tim 🙂 ps... love the new camera with the slow auto zoom!
This is good to see again as I stayed at the Grand in 2001 with a group of work colleagues for several days…never imagining at that time, l would actually come to retire here in Eastbourne, which in itself, is a great place to live. During my career, I’ve probably stayed in as many hotels as you have to date…😉 My opinion of the Grand I’m afraid hasn’t changed…it was not 5 Star in any shape or form then + still isn’t now …In fact…it resembles an Agatha Christie Arsenic + Old Lace Murder Mystery Scene…+ the memory of that old musty smell, l can still recall today! 🤦♀️ You’ve been tactfully kind Tim + l look forward to your next destination…back to the 21st Century, l hope! 🤦♀️😅🤞😉
Just got into a car accident right before having to pack for a move (solo) and your videos have been such a calming and informative background 😌😌😌😌😌 i dont feel so isolated
Great video as always. You should come visit us in Jersey. Only a short flight from the UK and lots of stunning beaches and interesting hotels to visit. You can even spend a night in one of the historic towers out at sea or the old WW2 fortifications the Germans built when the islands were occupied.
I think I could count on one hand the number of guests I have seen in these places you've showed us, Tim. I don't get it. Great Job, Tim. You literally don't miss a thing! Thank you.
I have a feeling the 'sweet wine' or 'apple juice' on the table was actually some sort of fly trap. The fresh fruit being left on the table in the sun would probably attract flies else. In my student house at uni we had a problem with them and left a similar sweet juice out to catch them all!
Looks just like the old people's home where I used to work. 😮 Next time you're down in Cornwall, come to the Carlyon Bay Hotel near Par. It's 5* and beautiful; the food's amazing, room service is wonderful and the footmen wear top hats! 😊
I actually liked the look of the indoor pool. The burnt toast was totally unacceptable. Would like to have seen more of the menu. Really enjoyed the video thanks 😊
Stayed here about 3 yrs ago. The room was dreadful and nothing like the website, i nearly cried! It was tiny and like an old servants room. I rang reception and they moved me. Much better room and a bit like yours, it was all abit old. Lovely bathroom though. The service at breakfast was top notch and in the tea lounge. When i checked out there were so many charges from the bar that were not ours, i managed to get them removed but the snooty receptionist wasnt happy. I sat in the lobby for a few minutes and heard the receptionist being incredibly rude about me. As we left and said goodbye to the lovely concierge and doormen, i saw her and gave kn my key and just told her that she had no need to be so snooty...... !
I am being fed a lot of your videos these days (not complaining at all!) So bouncing from Dubai to Eastbourne via Isle of Wight.. I am loving your reviews for all of it! Helped me to remove stuff from bucket list, and add new things! Keep it up!
Wow, that was my favourite review so far. How interesting and how honest of you to say it wasn't worth it. I've never been to Eastbourne but I must say a lot of what you showed was very similar to The Imperial in Blackpool which curiosly isn't five star. Really loved this one thank you Tim
I love how you reference Keeping Up Appearances! I’m and Aussie 80s baby and grew up watching it. And still watch it now! And yes, the penthouse lounge area totally reminded me of that show 😂
Another Victorian throwback. Eastbourne seems to have retained its older residents and visitors so I think the hotel may reflect that. I've stayed in 1 five star hotel in Canary Wharf, try it for a comparison. It's very modern.
Yeah, Tim. I'm not gonna lie I've been trying to watch videos every day to improve my English quality and it's not only for that. I meant the videos I saw are so fascinating and good-edited💯🗺️. Thank u👌👍🤝
I love how you kept on mentioning the stained glass windows, was just like all the 'Britannia' hotels you've stayed in ! mind you, in retrospect I don't think the 'Britannia' ones are meant to be stained, they just are !
I stayed in a suite in the Gloucester on park lane. Courtesy of work. Amazing bedroom, separate dining room and living room. I had the julia roberts breakfast with everything from menu. 🎉🎉🎉
Wow that's certainly an impressive hotel facade and the penthouse room was mostly fabulous - especially the bedroom and with great views from the balcony. In detail there are signs of staff/management complacency setting in with the juice bug , fridge on the floor and cobwebs in corridor. Although I think it was overpriced you looked as though you really enjoyed yourself there and I love your sense of adventure investigating all the maze of corridors and spectacular rooms. I hope these places don't get fussy about you filming everything!? External shots were also great. Well done Tim!! Super video again.
Pelmet is the word you are looking for to describe the fabric draping across the top of the curtain...love how you always pause... Fantastic videos I'm watching the whole catalogue 😊
The Grand at Eastbourne does still live up to its name. 90s furniture/feel, yes I agree but,, for me, it is in keeping with the hotel and very much the style I like. I am a pretty large eater but I usually find that the smaller portions of those haute cuisine meals are sufficiently filling. I take your point on the service, but a meal is such surroundings is not to be rushed! Value, for me, is a difficult one. (Incidentally, the 'final score', if I counted correctly, was WOWs 3, Randoms 1!)
The Grand at Eastbourne is a fabulous hotel. One of the very best I've stayed at and worked at and for. The standard rooms are excellent and the Debussy Suite amazing imo. Great staff and service on every occasion I've been there, either as a wedding photographer or as a guest. Always love your videos though.
A hotel that truly lives up to its name 'Grand'! A lot of older hotels in the UK are not up to scratch, and haven't had the care put into it to update and maintain it, but this one is definitely the exception.
Looked lovely, i do like the elegance of a by gone era, alot of modern hotels are all the same, minamalistic, clean lines etc, but it had quite alot to offer, and looked amazing from the outside 😊
Tim you’re always good value! Complaining about the lack of a lamp right under a wall-light and then you pan-out to an enormous standing lamp 😂 and complaining about a small bedroom TV when you literally have an entire lounge with a much bigger TV 😂 and who wants 4 people in the shower 😂 loving your work - great fun !
You need to try Carbis bay estate, the Headland hotel, the Watergate Bay hotel or Carlyon Bay hotel. All in cornwall and all apparently amazing. I would love to have your opinion on these hotels
Thanks for the video Tim. I think the apple cider vinegar in a jar is to catch the flies, although I've never seen that technique used in a hotel before. Moreover, it's definitely not worth over 700 quid for one night (I would never pay that much for one night) -- and the furniture looks like it's out of the 1950s (not the 1990s).
@@WalkWithMeTim Given that Mezcal from Mexico is bottled with a fat worm in the bottle... I wouldn't let a tiny fly stop me from trying a taste of whatever was in that glass. Was it cider vinegar to catch fruit flies? Seems odd to in a bottle be right there by the fruit dish, but while I've never experienced that in any hotel, fruit flies are no respecter of even penthouse suites, so maybe. The flies are insidious. I have a small electronic insect trap for when fruit flies get in my home, as they do occasionally... coming in with produce. They're hard to get rid of without some kind of trap.
You convinced me, after about 5 videos I had to subscribe, you're very good at this, it doesn't feel fake at all, love your channel! Thanks for sharing!
Try staying at the YHA in Eastbourne next time, it costs about 5% of the price and is right next to the no 12 bus which has one of the most scenic routes in the UK!
This hotel reminds me of the movie Somewhere in Time with Jayne Seymour and Christopher Reeves. The hotel they shot the movie in was called The Grand Hotel also.
Reminds me a bit if when we used to holiday years ago as a family and stayed a lot in Trusthouse Forte Hotels. Nothing as big as that, bug the rooms catered for kids, and kids menu in the restaurant, but the vibe was very formal, and traditional and the facilities the same.
I was living in Eastbourne for 4 years at Teacher training college. I was enchanting with the sea. It's easy to criticise these older hotels but the history!. I have just spent 4 days here and have had a delightful few days in a hotel where I was a waitress. I went on a bus over the downs and what places to see. Loved it wouldn't have left except that there were lots of colleges and not enough jobs
Hi Tim I did like the hotel, and I didn't mind the older furniture. Perhaps cause I'm an older subscriber. My hubby would've wanted more food on his plate. Wouldn't have been enough. Very large hotel not really for the disabled, steps everywhere. Thought it was very expensive though. But it was a beautiful place. Thanks Tim Xx

Why modern furniture?
Oh Wow,
That Place & Decor Really Squeals Of "Shady Pines Nursing Home "!! Think A Full Overhaul Is Quickly Required!!
£725?! That's nuts... especially when the bathroom looks like the best part of the hotel.
Definitely doesn't look or feel like a 5-star experience!!
I mean, the decor, the pool room and the corridors literally give me "The Grand Hotel Scarborough" vibes.
I would rather go to Benidorm for a week Tim. Especially when you said rooms there are from £40 a night at that hotel you stayed at.
£100 max surely for one night. That burnt toast image is burnt in my mind.
the place actually looks Crappy 3 star MAX time for the hotel inspectors to come back
Oh please don’t say that… the nightmares will start again….
I like how they put you in a corner for dinner, so as not to lower the tone of the dining room.
i always loved how real you are, saying stuff like your shirts are too small really goes to show you’re not afraid to be real and are always honest. best reviewer ever
Tims obession of getting multiple people in a shower always makes me chuckle
As in a Swinger 🎄
True HAHAHA
I know... what's with that ?
I said similar lol.
Saving water 🚿 😊
Wonder if it was the spirit of a guest who passed away from a heart attack on discovering the room tariff 🤔😁
@@peterskegness3204😅
Maybe it was a guest who passed after drinking that fly infested liquid in the room
100% not haunted as ghosts don't exist
@@jasonhinsley8804How do you know?
I was raised in a house with mostly antique furniture. I think it's kind of quaint and charming. The bathroom is beautiful and I like the colors on the walls.

Would like to see what you think of The Harbour Hotel in Southampton 5 star hotel we love it ❤
@@DanielEarlesterthat’s more like it, i usually just look at these menus and rule things out 😂
What struck me as I watched this was that it's not actually hugely dissimilar from the 'worst rated' hotel in Scarborough 😅 it's got the same grand style, the same old furniture and decor etc. It's obviously been maintained better but I'm not sure if I'd consider it a 5 star hotel by modern standards. The bathroom was the best bit as its been refurbed, although that blind doesn't leave anything to the imagination! 😂
What struck me was the fact it wasn't completely full of migrants yet, give it a few months and things will be different.
I thought exactly the same. Not too dissimilar bar a few things than the other Britannia Grand Hotels..
If i walked in to that, id be so pissed off ngl defs not 5 star
Should've gone to specsavers whoever rated this 5 stars how much!! Not worth that amount but doesn't look too bad the grand in scarborough is far worse. Xxliz
Only discovered your channel 2 days ago and I'm binge watching!! They are brilliant. The Butlins ones brings back so many memories from 30 years ago! Never traveled abroad and probably never will be able to but this channel allows me to travel through your videos and get that snippet of what these holidays would of been like. Thank you so much! Your channel is just brilliant ❤
Awesome! Thank you!
Is that per person or per room?
😅I love this hotel. Yes it’s a little worn but it’s elegant and has great service. At Christmas the Great Hall is beautiful and the afternoon tea is gorgeous. I always feel like I’m in a Poirot episode! It’s so relaxing with a great location.
It really is!
Hi Tim, yes the grand is beautiful hotel. , i stayed there, at least on two or three occasions., in late 60s, with my family,
WOW What a view! I love Eastbourne!

I loved the olde world charm ... beautiful
I was getting serious Overlook hotel vibes from some of the corridors!! Seriously though, I love the old school charm of the place, great video, Tim.
Yes! And "1408" vibes too!
The shinning😮😂
The Bedroom is nice..I like it..🎄🎄
I can honestly say I gasped out loud when I heard the price Tim.
That’s just how I like toast. I usually find hotel toast a bit flabby but that toast rack seemed to have a selection of toastednesses.
I too gasped at the price! I would expect something amazing and premium quality for that price. Proper shocked!
£700+ is WAY OVERPRICED! Should definitely give The Nici in Bournemouth a try, also a 5-Star Seaside Hotel! 🌊
I thought it seemed just like a posher premier inn
Yeah. Has me until the price! 😂
@@xx_jwgaming_xx4563behave, dear me 🤦♂️🤦♂️
I love the old furniture. I think this the one used in an episode of Poirot LOVE IT! I think you defiantly need to take a suit whenever you travel. Dress codes are important in these beautiful hotels to keep some the standards up.
Wow I was thinking around the £300-£400 max mark , the service could have been much better at Dinner and breakfast did look pretty average.
It would be that if two people shared the cost. That room is not meant for one person!
Calling bread barely toasted and still white is not toast. A bugbear of mine.
Hate burnt toast! How do they think that helps?
And the rock hard, uncooked half a tomato 🍅 they always give you 🤦♂️
Room for four in the bed, four in the shower! Next time I fancy an orgy, a know where am booking. That room is far too twee for me am afraid.
Well I don’t mind one piece of burnt toast out of 5 as I do no people who do like burnt toast not me and that breakfast looked rank and I heard someone put they pre cook it that is why u are paying so much money for fresh good quality products
Tim, Tim,Tim,get it right..a bathroom has a BASIN,not a sink,a kitchen has a sink..👍
If only those walls could talk .. Outrageously over priced but the cost of running & maintaining those huge old hotels must be astronomical .. but still ... Great review Tim.
I'm astonished it can be run at a profit.
I have recently discovered your videos and I’m absolutely addicted to them. You and your wife are the absolut best, showing how different hotels are.
It reminds me of the Shining hotel.😮
Please, please please come to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan next Summer.
I agree, I wondered why he didn't go for the Presidential suite... same money 🤷
You're telling me you we're in Eastbourne and I didn't notice! Lived here 23 years, no idea how I didn't run into you, it isn't a big town at all. Hope you had a great time here!
Next time!
I keep expecting to see Jack Nicholson at his type writer or chasing Shelly Duvall up the stairs with a bass ball bat

Love when you say " the piano is playing by itself " straight out of Monty Python ! 🤣 and you'd have to pay me to use that lift.
I think the decor and furniture is very fitting for the age and style of the hotel. Sometimes all modern decor just doesn't feel right. Xxx
Well it still looks crappy.
It doesn’t have to be “modern” but it should not look run down. It looked very run down; definitely not 5 star quality.
We go to Greece for a week for £750 for 2 of us!!!!!! And always descent 😊
@@kezzacollinson621Greece is amazing, i just came back there last week. Although u can find good prices/deals it also has become ridiculously expensive especially using the taxis
@@foreverlis we walk everywhere (for miles) or use the buses so don’t know about the taxis but I do agree that since Covid the prices of drinks/food etc has increased 😔 Although still so much cheaper than food/drink in Britain and some of it much better quality, especially the fresh veg and lamb.
Shes correct though its dreadful @@isking1715
What an amazing suite! I loved the mix of contemporary and old-fashioned features, I agree that the bathroom was AMAZING!
I visit here occasionally with my daughter for their lovely afternoon cream tea. Impeccable service.
Grand old hotel with amazing views, however, I was not expecting £725 for one night! Thanks for another great review Tim 🙂
ps... love the new camera with the slow auto zoom!
Yeah that living room decor is soooo 90's. I love it.
Tim your videos have certainly leveled up in terms of content and editing! But has the same charm as usual 😊❤
This is good to see again as I stayed at the Grand in 2001 with a group of work colleagues for several days…never imagining at that time, l would actually come to retire here in Eastbourne, which in itself, is a great place to live.
During my career, I’ve probably stayed in as many hotels as you have to date…😉
My opinion of the Grand I’m afraid hasn’t changed…it was not 5 Star in any shape or form then + still isn’t now …In fact…it resembles an Agatha Christie Arsenic + Old Lace Murder Mystery Scene…+ the memory of that old musty smell, l can still recall today! 🤦♀️
You’ve been tactfully kind Tim + l look forward to your next destination…back to the 21st Century, l hope! 🤦♀️😅🤞😉
Not convinced that's 5 star decor...
Just got into a car accident right before having to pack for a move (solo) and your videos have been such a calming and informative background 😌😌😌😌😌 i dont feel so isolated
sorry for this late reply ... so sorry to hear that hope you are on the mend now?
Great video as always. You should come visit us in Jersey. Only a short flight from the UK and lots of stunning beaches and interesting hotels to visit. You can even spend a night in one of the historic towers out at sea or the old WW2 fortifications the Germans built when the islands were occupied.
I've suggested to Tim a couple of times for him to visit Jersey, I would love to see it 😊
I agree , I love it there. My personal favourite hotel is Greenhills .
I think I could count on one hand the number of guests I have seen in these places you've showed us, Tim. I don't get it. Great Job, Tim. You literally don't miss a thing! Thank you.
Great video Tim but I can't believe the price, there's no way I'd pay it😮
Hi. The design of the rooms is called the traditional style, which is still in style and I believe will never go out of style.
Next time you're down in Cornwall, come to the Carlyon Bay Hotel near Par. It's 5* and beautiful; the food's amazing, room service is wonderful and the footmen wear top hats! 😊
I actually liked the look of the indoor pool. The burnt toast was totally unacceptable. Would like to have seen more of the menu. Really enjoyed the video thanks 😊
Such interesting angles..yes, the room looking like a painting looks like a painting..❤😊
No way for this place 😂to
I am being fed a lot of your videos these days (not complaining at all!) So bouncing from Dubai to Eastbourne via Isle of Wight..
And yes, the penthouse lounge area totally reminded me of that show 😂
2:30 - fun fact about the Grand Hotel's music history - Claude Debussy actually composed parts of his opera La Mer while staying at the hotel!
I noticed that the piano was playing it :j
Agreed about the decor. It's very old fashioned!
It's an old hotel, what would you expect?
Another Victorian throwback. Eastbourne seems to have retained its older residents and visitors so I think the hotel may reflect that. I've stayed in 1 five star hotel in Canary Wharf, try it for a comparison. It's very modern.
The "wine" in a bottle flask is probably a fly trap (which works) to catch the fruit flies.
They should definitely have labelled it, in case someone tried to drink it! 😮
Yeah, Tim. I'm not gonna lie I've been trying to watch videos every day to improve my English quality and it's not only for that. I meant the videos I saw are so fascinating and good-edited💯🗺️. Thank u👌👍🤝
Keeping up appearances is a classic but you're definitely right.
Yes! Thank you!
I grew up in Hailsham a short drive from Eastbourne,I remember Mum and Dad taking me there one Sunday in the early 70s for afternoon tea..
A hotel that truly lives up to its name 'Grand'! A lot of older hotels in the UK are not up to scratch, and haven't had the care put into it to update and maintain it, but this one is definitely the exception.
It's far from grand it looks as run down as a britannia which you can get for under £50 a night 😂
It’s Beautiful…. Thank You for Sharing with Us‼️‼️☺️💕
You need to try Carbis bay estate, the Headland hotel, the Watergate Bay hotel or Carlyon Bay hotel. All in cornwall and all apparently amazing. I would love to have your opinion on these hotels
Watergate Bay Hotel has just been done up and it looks really nice.
Good video. Ooh and I love "Keeping Up Appearances", it is still very popular here in Finland.
The furniture was all ANTIQUE!! It was GORGEOUS!! Lol, and not at ALL 90's!! LOl. LOVE your channel, Tim!!!
Well why are there glasses lol if gaby would have been with me she would have pored a glass
Agreed
This hotel reminds me of the movie Somewhere in Time with Jayne Seymour and Christopher Reeves. The hotel they shot the movie in was called The Grand Hotel also.
It’s a beautiful building. I do wonder if younger people won’t want to go to such places and they’ll have to change somehow to survive
Reminds me a bit if when we used to holiday years ago as a family and stayed a lot in Trusthouse Forte Hotels. Nothing as big as that, bug the rooms catered for kids, and kids menu in the restaurant, but the vibe was very formal, and traditional and the facilities the same.
What a great old hotel! That view is well worth the price IMO. Would love to have a cocktail and a smoke out on the balcony.
Hi Tim
I did like the hotel, and I didn't mind the older furniture. Perhaps cause I'm an older subscriber. My hubby would've wanted more food on his plate. Wouldn't have been enough. Very large hotel not really for the disabled, steps everywhere. Thought it was very expensive though. But it was a beautiful place. Thanks Tim Xx
This made me wonder if you'd ever seen The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan where the film Somewhere in Time was filmed with Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve. Gorgeous hotel on this island that doesn't allow motorized vehicles. 4-star hotel. I've vacationed on the island but stayed in a cottage so have viewed the outside of The Grand and the grounds.
I was reminded of that, too. I've never been there, but I remember the movie.
