What are the brass plugs in float bowl for

What does making the hole bigger or smaller really do? I have a 2000 kawasaki vulcan classic 1500. I took the carb off and cleaned it up today and after inspection the diaphragms work but have all swelled up. This made it hard to put back together. The pumper worked when I tested it after putting in back in the bike it doesn't seem to be working. After cleaning everything up looking at the slider you have to almost redline it before it opens past 1/2 to 3/4 just doesn't seem right to me. After a weekend road trip over 500 miles I noticed that I lost some low-end torque at take off and at cruising speeds. That's why I decided to clean it. I took it for a drive when it when I got done wasn't happy. went back out for a longer drive later and it seemed to level out better still nothing like it was just before the trip. I know I need to change the diaphragms and bowl seal if I keep it. Just 27k I just got the bike this year at 25k. Im not a fan of this cvk carburetor. But if I do change this part should I see a big difference vs just putting a cable slide style ?

Can a drilled slide shorten it's own usable time?
I have understood that because it's more sensitive, it reacts more to engine pulses and getting worn earlier than a non drilled one...

where are your students?
I don't like the title (related to the content) but I'm not sure how it should be phrased..... Maybe "how to tell if a carb has been altered?" I can't agree with 'jetted' because...carbs have jets. I'd also argue that re-jetted doesn't fit because they drilled the CV on top of possibly replacing jet/needle.
Titles are hard to choose. There is a balance between what "many will look for or call something"
