I think staying quiet and just praying about an issue in a marriage is just a breeding ground for resentment. Healthy communication is so important in a relationship.

I was the model for a pick me Christian girl and I remember when my marriage first started being horrible reading Christian based books for wife’s learning this stuff and honestly now that I look back at that time in my life… keeping quiet and “praying to God” about it created this space where I was small and unimportant. There was 0 respect. All the while managing the entire house and giving my ex husband free access to my body at all times was honestly the worst way I have ever betrayed myself. I lost who I was and did it all so quietly and somehow in the name of God. Now that I’m older I see how odd it is that this is the current culture for woman in the church. It’s a narcissists dreaaaamm to treat their partner like shit and then to have it overlooked or even to be given more love and gratitude. So bizarre.

Kind communication is the most critical part of a healthy relationship. It is best after self reflection. RUclips channel Psychology in Seattle does a phenomenal job of explaining people’s reactions in conflict and where those may arise from and how to reframe it.

God knows and sees our hearts and I agree, that communication is very very important! But there have been times I have had some things I may have wanted to communicate to my husband, but my spirit said "pray about it," and even in my silence, God turned it around, instantly! God honors marriage, and I do believe if you go to him, seek him, and pray to him he will answer!
I am sorry one of the commenters feels she "betrayed" herself by giving herself to her husband although they were facing whatever issues they were in, but I want to encourage you! Do know that God is not sleeping and will still honor you for honoring your husband because that is what he calls us to do. I pray that God gives you peace and understanding in your memory of this situation.

1 Kings 16:25 Omri did EVIL in the eyes of the Lord, and did worse than all who were before him.
      1 Kings 15:33-34
33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha the son of Ahijah became king over all Israel in Tirzah, and reigned twenty-four years. 34 He did EVIL in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin by which he had made Israel sin.
      1 Kings 22:50-52
51 Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned two years over Israel.
52 And he did EVIL in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin:
1 Kings 11:6 Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and did not fully follow the Lord, as did his father David.
2 Kings 21 Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hephzibah. 2 And he did EVIL in the sight of the Lord, according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel.
      Women:
God chose to make us because He saw that something wasn't good. He could have finished with creation but there was one more detail!! US! Women! God chose to make us! ❤️
      Genesis 2:18 NKJV
And the LORD God said, “It is NOT GOOD that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”
      Genesis 2:24 NKJV
Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
God time after time defends women in the bible and requires men to treat us properly because there are so many instances in the bible where we see stories of men who mistreated women.
Proverbs 18:22 He who finds a wife finds a good thing,
And obtains favor from the Lord.
Colossians 3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.
      Ephesians 5:28
In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
      Ephesians 5:25 ESV
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,
      Malachi 2:16
“For the man who does not love his wife but divorces her, says the Lord, the God of Israel, covers his garment with violence, says the Lord of hosts. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and do not be faithless.”
Proverbs 5:18 Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice with the wife of your youth.
Mark 10:6-9 But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.
God loves women! The Bible is the word of God. However, remember that it includes historical events so yes men have done some evil things to women but this is why when Jesus came He gave a great example of how to treat women. You do know that Jesus stopped men from stoning Mary Magdalene. God is kind & sweet. Don't let anyone make you think otherwise.
For many years, I thought God didn't love women but as I read the Bible I learned about many instances where God defended us! Amen!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️

That part about her saying you're supposed to change your husband's behavior "without a word" is taking that verse and applying it to a context it wasn't meant for. Plus, the Bible is clear that we're brother and sister in Christ FIRST, and as fellow Christians, we're SUPPOSED to exhort one another and even confront one another. I don't see anything wrong with wives bringing concerns about their husbands' behavior to them verbally based on the Bible.

While it is nice that she denounced abuse, the nature of abuse is that many people blame themselves and won't self-identify as experiencing abuse at all. Something that really frustrates me about these Christian influencers is that they seem to think that they're experts just because they are Christians. They just read off scripture and use flowery language, but only have a surface level understanding of what they're reading. Like come on! Dig deeper! Add a fresh perspective! Don't just scratch the surface. I'd say if you're going to be a religious influencer, do your research or just start out talking about less heavy topics. But please, do more than take Scripture at face value. And I think we really need to stop the "us vs the world" narrative.
Props to her for actually encouraging her viewers to open their own Bibles. Maybe some of them will actually read it for themselves and come to their own conclusions.
And she's right to denounce abuse and say that it's not ok. But like you pointed out, that should be the bare minimum. We really could do better as the big C church.
Overall you gave some good commentary. I really enjoy your commentary style. Very chill and informative.

Exactly - the fact that this 'submission' they speak about is said to be hard to do but has to be done says something else. Women are prepared to submit and men to 'lead' which sets up couples for abuse - its give -Bondage-dominantion-submission' vibes - as seen in the likes of Paul and Morgan. Women are infantilized - I used to be one of these churches - even the way members 'submit' to pastors is cringe worthy - which is why spiritual abuse has become a concern. So growing up in the church I was taught that submission to a husband is like submission to a CEO. Someone has to make the final decision but you should ALWAYS talk through that decision and try and find compromise when you disagree. And if the husband makes a bad decision, voice your disagreement with that decision but be helpful in whatever that fallout might be because at the end of the day it’s a partnership and the health of your family (even if that’s just you and your husband) is more important than “being right”. Basically just don’t be an asshole in retaliation lol.
I remember in premarital counseling our pastor looking my now husband in the eyes and saying “your wife is smarter and wiser than you. Listen to her.” And told about how early in his marriage he wasn’t listening to the good advice his wife was giving him and it bit him in the ass. After that he valued her voice in things above everyone else’s haha
The men were also given heavy emphasis on being someone worthy of being submitted to.
So. All that being said it’s hard for me to have objectivity in these discussions because I’m not really sure what they are talking about when they say be submissive as I know it could be completely contrary to what I was taught that means.

I am a traditional Christian housewife. I absolutely don't think you should stay in an abusive marriage. Protect yourself and if you have children, you must protect them too. I also think God can use us to help our husband if he is struggling with other things. It needs to be done in the right way though. The fight or flight instinct in us is real. First, I do pray. I pray to be kind , loving, and have wisdom for the words and clarity. Then, I tell my husband my concerns. So , many times he has thanked me. It isn't about controlling him. It is about genuine care. We treat each other with respect. We have been married for 25 years and are still so happy. I am on his side and he is on mine. We help each other. We see each others strengths and let each other lead in the area we are strong in. I do look to him as a spiritual leader. However, he is always asking my thoughts and is so respectful to me. We realize we both are not perfect. I don't nag him . I really feel blessed and he tells me he is so blessed to have me. I don't really have a demanding husband. So, maybe it is easier for me. I also told my kids that besides the decision to follow God, choosing your spouse is one of the most important decisions you will make. Don't ignore red flags. Don't be in a rush and settle. We don't spend enough time talking about that. Also, I look at it like this. If my child were climbing on a terrace rail, I would not just stand there and watch not saying anything or helping them stay safe. Hoping God will save them . Not that our spouse is a child. God can use us. He has used complete strangers to help others? Why would he not use a spouse? I am not saying micromanage everything. I am talking about the big things and keeping communication open. How lonely for a husband if we are only their servant. We are not just here to be maids and have babies. We were created to be help meets. God saw that Adam needed someone besides just him. He saw a need. Yes, we need God the most, but he gave us each other for a reason. I do understand a lot of what Milena is saying, however I would talk to my spouse and if abuse was happening to me or my child I would get help . And not just within the church. I know I jumped around a bit. I am multi tasking.

Milena is living according to scripture and doing what’s right. People can say she’s spiraled but your words are just confirmation that she’s doing the right thing in God’s sight. And that’s the ONLY one she cares to please. Her content isn’t for you, it’s for HIM. And his kingdom and glory. She has a Godly husband and He leads the family in righteous, it’s easy to submit to a Godly man who loves the Lord and loves his wife and children! I should know! My husband is wonderful and serves the Lord with all his heart and it’s a joy to submit to a man like him! I’m loving the change in her over the last year, she’s exactly the kind of biblical woman example so many young wives and mothers have been needing. Go Milena!!!!🎉

It SHOULD be easy to submit to your husband and Milena is describing the difficulty she has with it. That means there's a problem. Maybe her husband is not fulfilling his responsibility to consider her perspective, maybe she's defining submission in the wrong way and therefore straying from God's plan. Either way, she does not seem like she's in a solid place to be giving advice. I‘m totally on board about what you said in the beginning about your view on partnership and decision making in a relationship, but in my opinion „submission“ is absolutely not the correct word for what you described. The definition of submitting is one party putting themselves below the other, and Partners should be equals. In this Christian context it‘s always only the wife submitting to her husband, Not about the husband submit EQUALLY to his wife. This creates inequality and means that what you described would only apply to the wife, Not both.

Sometimes I think all the problems with "submission" in the bible might go away if we replaced it with "compromise" in all translations. Because the context clues almost sound like perhaps thats what Paul was getting at anyway.

we cant just hijack words and make them have our own personal definitions. "Submission" and "Compromise" have different definitions! Submission does not mean compromise lol and if you are pretending that they are synonyms then you are being intellectually dishonest when you are reading "submission" in the bible, and I would challenge you to ask yourself if you are redefining words to make the bible say whatever you want it to say. When we "submit" to someone that is the opposite of "compromising". Submission occurs when you quite literally cant compromise or are not compromising so you submit to anothers decision. My goodness, we cant change language to make words mean what they simply dont mean. That is very unhealthy and not grounded in reality.

Maybe five seconds before she used the word "umbrella" I was like, "This is sounding a lot like Bill Gothard." We called it! Also, when she talks about you go from submitting to your father to submitting to your husband...last I checked my Bible says, "Honor your father AND MOTHER." (Obviously I added the capitalization.) It specifies both father and mother in both the Old and New Testaments.
Also, I am one-quarter Italian and have made and eaten stuffed peppers plenty of times, so I was cringing inside when you were reading off that stuffed pepper recipe. Part of me wonders if she meant to say to cook the meat in a separate pan but forgot the phrase "in a separate pan"? She needs someone to test the recipe before she publishes it so they can point out these issues to her, a la Good Housekeeping. Also I was taught to stuff the peppers with raw ground beef + pre-cooked rice, but my family recipe involves stewing the peppers in tomato juice in a big pot on the stove rather than baking. Also I would think precooking the peppers, especially for that long, would make them too soft and hard to stuff without making holes in them. In short, her recipe just does not make sense as written.
My win for the week is my husband and I finally combining our car insurance onto the same policy! We've been married nearly three years so have been literally talking about it for years. I guess I thought it would be a lot more complicated and time consuming than it actually ended up being!
Edit as I watched more: Her "I am not called to speak to men"/"I do not have authority to speak to men" sounds SO much like the Transformed Wife once defending her comments by saying "I don't teach men, I only teach women." Also, to me claiming authority to teach would (or at least should) mean having some level of professional training in that area (Bible college, seminary, etc.), but I've never heard of her before this video so I don't know if she does. I asked about this “ all women should have children so they can be saved”, etc. because I’ve had seven miscarriages so I took particular interest in this passage as well as being upset. When I wanted more clarification and asked , in my case, none was given.
Also, he went into detail about women never suffering to teach, and I am a clinical mental health counselor, and I also teach, and he said women should never be deacons, church leaders, ushers, etc. because that would be against the Bible.
We had been going to this church for quite a while and went to a Wednesday night service when this was told. He explained that Wednesdays were for real believers, etc. Sorry, had to get that in. This was very recent so the topic is raw in my mind. I did a deep dive, and this is one of the most controversial passages in the Bible, and also one used by most fundamentalists.

I’m still processing what submission means biblically because I grew up hearing abuse and dominance being called “submission”. It never sat right with me because it was reminiscent of years I associated with oppression and suppression of women. Submission always sounded to me like the two people put themselves in boxes abandoning themselves and playing into the roles that people who incorrectly interpreted the passage said they needed. My working definition of submission is it’s letting go of our self seeking desires that typically blind is to others needs and seeing them and esteeming me them as human and worthy of respect and love. I think submission is a concept for our benefit. I’ve noticed that without thought I have little regard for peoples feeling and my default is to prioritize myself. I think submission in general is a self reflection tool and a practice in esteeming others. It’s that daily crucifying the flesh and seeing someone strengths and weaknesses and loving and supporting them to be the person God created them to be. Submission is not devoid or separate from other biblical truths they all tie in together.

Notice how she says at minute 57:00 that Jezebel wants to be in leadership. That tells you a lot of the direction Milena is starting to go in her view points. Likely does not support women pastors, women cannot have an opinion on her husbands actions, etc.

My win: I moved! I was packing for last week’s win haha. Hopefully next week’s win will be that I’ve fully unpacked 😂 ✨.
ETA: I vote Sourdough Christian, it’s so fun and cute haha.

The child she shows in that video IS NOT HER CHILD. I don't understand why she tries to "hide" her children but someone else's child is being shown to the world. Even if the parents said it was okay is still weird to me. I used to like Milena but man has she changed and not for the better.

She keeps reiterating that you didn't marry Jesus... but it's not your place to correct him and hold him accountable when he is not representing let alone directly going against or misusing the Word.... as if he is God...??

That soup made me laugh out loud. Not only the baby carrots it just looks gross. Like wet cat food with whole carrots. Doesn't look appetizing at all and I love gnocchi soup.

She could have cut the baby carrots though 😂 I cook from scratch for my family of four all the time so I tend to be critical of other people's cooking 😬 And I agree with fresh diced onion and minced garlic... In most dishes lol.

I’m still at the recipe section of the video, but those ✨4 whole baby carrots✨ just sitting there and going against her recipe instructions is a major red flag for me and I personally can’t trust a word she says. Thank you B for this deep dive into a person I’ve never heard of before, but as a nosey Catholic I’m inclined to listen lol
My win for the week is receiving some unexpected money in the mail and I enjoyed a fun Ocktober fest with my parish after mass.

When people utilize multiple verses to back up a point it’s so important to disclose what version they are working from. I will often times see people pick the English translation that is closest to saying what they want it to rather than pausing to consider original language.

Crunchy Christians are not new (as in “last few years”). Half my friends were in that category from 2005-2015. 😂. Never heard of the “cold brew” type tho.
    EDITED TO ADD:
One thing the common “submission” teachings miss is that Paul predicates Ephesians 5:22-24 with verse 21, exhorting all believers, male and female,to submit to each other in Christ; and that verses 22-24 are fully in the context of verses 25-33.
As you have pointed out, the church did not submit to Christ so that He would lay His life down for her. He laid His life down first.
When Paul exhorted Greek believing women to win their husbands by their quiet meekness, he was speaking to women who’s husbands were pagan. (And those women had no rights in the society anyway-they had no escape options.)
He was not speaking to women who’s husbands were already Believers, as he expected *those* husbands to be actively working out their salvation and loving their wives the way Christ loves the church *already*. I can only imagine what Paul would say to professed Christian men who expected their wives to “submit” to their every whim in order for them to live rightly. 💀
(Finally, I agree with your definition of “submission”-it aligns with my understanding I’m of the nuance of the Koine Greek.)

It’s interesting how she speaks with such intensity and aggression at the jezebel part. The way she talks about it seems personal, as if she’s projecting an experience with a “jezebel” tempting her husband. It sounds like she hates women and the whole tone towards the end of her video just sounds like an authoritarian giving a lecture.
