    Hi there! I am a trained somatic sex coach and my two biggest observations of this Instagram live is 1) So much of what they talk about is still about feeling sexy for external reasons and using external stimuli (lingerie, lap and pole dances). We don't need to add more for "excitement" or "tension" when sex still feels uncomfortable (emotionally or physically). In fact, a great deal of sexual challenges people face is down to anxiety. So, taking emotional risks like being vulnerable in learning a lap dance or putting on lingerie can raise the stakes for their anxiety.
    So, 2) rather than prescriptive, additive exercises to "feel sexy," learning how to live in your body and truly connect and repair your relationship with pleasure will enrich your relationship with eroticism in a long-term, meaningful way. Lingerie is about aesthetics, but learning to notice sensations in your body is a solid pathway to pleasure.

      all their advice in regards to sex and intimacy seems to be externalizing it. it's like all these things women can do to get in touch with their sexuality (except of course the obvious self pleasure, because unless you include your husband, that's ungodly).
      and obviously, they're not gonna ever talk about how damaging purity culture is and how it breeds shame and anxiety about female sexuality, because that would mean admitting that the particular brand of Christianity they subscribe to is toxic and unhealthy.
      but even beyond that, it's all external stuff. And none of the advice is ever as simple "have a good, deep conversation with your partner about what can be done to make you more comfortable, about what you like and dislike, about what you need in order to feel confident in your sexuality." cuz you know, that would be too simple and make too much sense.
      like, or, you could just have a healthy relationship with your partner, one where you feel comfortable and empowered to be vulnerable with them because you trust them, which will then translate to having an easier time with physical intimacy. you know, or learning to feel empowered within your own sexuality by embracing it and taking the time to learn what works for you, makes you feel comfortable, makes you feel good, and then bringing that info to your partner (who, obviously, cuz it's a healthy relationship, will enthusiastically take any direction and WANT to help make things easier for you). nope, none of that. not them. guess it's not "god-honoring" enough.

    Freudian slip at the beginning there by Morgan. I commented on this Instagram live and it got deleted. So, they aren't open for healthy hard conversations. One issue I have is both GD and P&M have contributed to the uneducated modesty/purity culture fear-based exploring sexuality discussion and then they bluntly state that they have no concept of where these ideas that women are messaging them saying 'seductiveness is bad' and 'being kinky marriage is evil' when this has been their rhetoric online since the beginning. Great to see their worldviews are expanding on these topics, but it feels a bit clickbaity, there was no reflectiveness from either of them, denial the church has had anything to do with fearing sexuality, and low-key shaming women's genuine fear in opening these conversations- Morgan even gaslit her audience regarding the response she gave about the spicy pole dancing becoming sexy in marriage idea- saying 'I don't even know where this came from'

    55:00 TBH, I actually get what Morgan was talking about here in the sense that society in general likes to tell women and girls that everything that makes them a woman is a flaw and makes them inferior. Young girls can associate the disgusted attitude they endure from those around them concerning their menstrual cycle to their body parts as a whole because of all the fluids and whatnot. It's not just religion that makes girls feel like their body parts are dirty and shameful. It's society at large.
    And that's not even mentioning the aspect of feeling like you have to compare yourself to others that are presented as being more desirable (like in porn).
    I may be wrong, but I thought Morgan didn't grow up christian. She likely is referring to these experiences as a girl rather than the religious aspect.

    Their lack of knowledge about a healthy, fun, enjoyable sexual relationship with their spouse is in part because of how sex education is super restricted for unmarried people. Kind of like what they talked about with how it's not discussed because the church/Christians fear it'll cause others to be tempted or sin. And on top of this, youth aged Christian boys are taught all about how they're super sexual and will have to fight off those urges until they're married, meanwhile sexuality is a taboo subject among Christian girls. It's hardly even acknowledged, with the focus more on "guarding your purity" rather than "keep all those lustful feelings you have under control!"
    I'm so happy for them that they're interested in learning more about expressing their own sexuality and investing in their own sexual enjoyment, it's not all centered on pleasing their husband.

    My sex life is between me and my partner. If we start having problems in that regard that we can't work through together alone, then I'll/we'll go to a licensed secular counselor or therapist. I think discussing sex generally should be far less taboo. It should be normalized as a topic, but going to a bunch of friends and family to try to work through your specific sexual issues with your partner seems disrespectful and icky.

      I understand your point of view for sure especially if there is a very specific sexual issue someone is dealing with! I do just wish the concept in general wasn’t presented as being so shameful because it makes people embarrassed to talk to the people they trust (or even Google things sometimes) about the broader topics like sex drive, physical discomfort in certain positions, and safe sex/pregnancy prevention in general for those who don’t follow the quiver full line of thinking.

    Why do we always put the burden on women? If there’s a discrepancy in sex drive, we say to women, “just want more sex.” We don’t tell the partner with the higher sex drive, “ok, how can YOU take initiative and make sex more comfortable or pleasurable for your partner? Can you try something new with their pleasure in mind, not yours? Are there other ways you can enhance physical intimacy outside of the specific type of sex you want?”

    Okay, so, I'm going to share something quite personal to me, so apologies in advance for being wordy. I want to give background and context. B, I think you really deserve to hear it my thoughts, and I feel safe telling you a bit of my experiences.
    I want to speak to what you said about people criticizing you for, like, not knowing about Christianity and wanting to "tear things down". I, very literally, subscribed to your channel BECAUSE of your approach. (Until listening to this particular video, I didn't realize that you're also a believer.) Recently, and over the last couple of years I've found myself deeply struggling with the culture of organized religion, but I am torn because I still find value in and genuinely believe in the teachings of Christ; so I've been on this personal journey of introspection and listening authentically to a wide variety of people's perspectives on spirituality, organized religion, and being human. I've heard people call the process "de-programing"-I'm not sure if that's exactly what I'm doing, but it's certainly akin to it. Anyways, long story short, I have very serious critiques of organized religion and think change needs to happen, but I am also still religious, and reconciling those conflicting feelings has be difficult. There's not been many people I feel comfortable sharing this struggle with, because of polarity on both ends. Generally when I talk to people who have religious paradigms, I'm made to feel like I'M the problem and need dismantling. When I talk to folks who have an atheistic paradigms, GOSPEL is the problem and needs dismantling. Neither, for me, has made sense or felt right. I'm still searching and trying to learn.
    Absolutely everyone has the right to decide in their lives what is right for them, and that means we'll have lives that look different to each other. I wholeheartedly believe, support, and work to live by that.
    You're the first person who I have felt such strong resonance with. I so tremendously appreciate your perspective and the way you create content. Thank you so, so much. Your empathy and paradigm matters to me and is helping me in a time where I'm reevaluating my identity and thinking ethically, morally, and spiritually about my life and my relationship with the world. Thank you for your patience, care, and understanding. Thank you for making a channel and being brave in sharing your thoughts. It means so much. Even if it's just to me, you're making a positive difference. Thank you!

    • @theshowpoint
      @theshowpoint Год назад +1

      To be fair, Christ didn’t like organized religion either. :) Keep exploring these questions in yourself! We all have realizations about what’s beneficial and healthy in our beliefs and what doesn’t serve us, whether we are believers or not. It’s awesome that you aren’t forcing yourself to see things in black in white - that’s how so many churchgoers get stuck in harmful doctrine.

    Hello! I've been watching a few of your videos lately and I really enjoy how you cover these topics. I'm not religious at all and never grew up with that, so it's really helpful when you provide context to the references that I would otherwise not be knowledgeable on- especially related to the Bible.
    I do think it's interesting to hear Bethany and Morgan talk about these things without recognizing their role their own channels and online presences have contributed to shame regarding sex and sexuality. I say this not to put them down for now talking about sex, but because it might be helpful for other Christian people to be reflective of their views and how they can grow and change their mind over time.
    Another thing I couldn't help to notice is the fact that Christians, and I think Bethany and Morgan may be included in this, view LGBTQ+ people as groomers or predatory towards children... and yet have no issue talking about sex when their own children are in the room. While I personally don't have an issue with that, I do believe if it were anyone queer doing the same thing that these same Christians would accuse them of predatory behaviour. It's just interesting how hypocritical these particular views can be.
    Anyway thanks for the content! Have a lovely day.

    I can’t tell if Bethany is coming from a place of “I used to struggle to enjoy sex and I learned how to enjoy it and here’s how you can enjoy it too” or “I have yet to enjoy it and I use my platform as a vessel to search for answers.” Either way she gives off a frantic energy and claims to be super open and honest without ever getting to the heart of the topic. No clarity is ever provided. There’s no step A to step B to step C. She seems like 4 years into marriage she’s still learned nothing about herself or her husband.

  • @GraceFay
    @GraceFay Год назад +1

    I think a part of their narrative that is also super damaging is the idea that because they strongly support virginity before marriage, they lack the understanding of those who may fall outside of the sexuality binary they’ve created. Yes, women are constantly shamed for being sexual beings, and purity culture is a huge aspect of this, but it also doesn’t account for the people who may not be into sex with the opposite gender, or anyone at all. Someone who may be struggling because they don’t understand their own sexuality is not taken into account, and then would be forced to “make it work” with a spouse they don’t have any kind of sexual connection with. It’s really sad and disappointing that a lot of Christians may be forced into that for their entire lives without knowing why they feel the way they do.

    • @GraceFay
      @GraceFay Год назад

      Like it’s such a heteronormative take on sex and sexuality that it doesn’t acknowledge the fact that the reason you feel this way could be because you’re not attracted to your spouse in the way you’ve been expected to be (not saying that’s the case with Morgan or Bethany, but it is a possibility reason why others may be struggling!)
