I watched this video and the one of you clipping Marsha’s nails. Both kittens are adorable! I have a little guy who looks just like Butter and am struggling with nail clipping. He can be all relaxed on me and the minute I reach for the scissors, he goes to bite me, hard! You have your thumb right under Butters chin here. If that was my kitten, I’d have no thumb left!
Zivia Beniflah definitely practice playing with his paws and claws when you’re not trying to clip them! And try to be calm and silly about it. The more relaxed paw play time they get, the more comfortable they will be when it comes time to clip nails! It will also be helpful to always be gentle with them with your hands and if you want to have high energy or rougher play, use a toy. That way they learn that your hand isn’t a toy and it’s only for gentle touch!
i showed my kitten dominance as if i were her mom. i wrapped her like a little burrito and omg it worked 😭 i trimmed my baby’s nails for the first time ❤️
I walk you through how to get your kitten to cooperate like this in this article www.lovethesecats.com/how-to-cut-kitten-nails/ it can be done! Especially if the kitten is 3 mo or younger 👍
I have to assume none of these videos actually show a cat that bites and scratches and fights having their nails trimmed because people with cats like mine just give up and are the ones searching on youtube, not making the videos.
The burrito technique may be helpful for you. The biting is concerning though. The cat should not be stressed enough to be biting. Do you have an adult cat or a kitten?
I USED TO HAVE CATS. I HAD ONE IN PARTICULAR THAT WAS MY FAVOURITE. I GOT HIM WHEN HE WAS ONLY 3 MONTHS OLD AND I USED TO NURSE HIM OFTEN AND HIS CLAWS WOULD COME OUT. I HEARD FROM SOMEWHERE TO SQUEEZE HIS PAWS EVERY TIME HIS CLAWS WOULD STICK INTO ME AND HE WOULD GET TO LEARN NOT TO DO IT. . IF YOU KEEP DOING THIS EVERY TIME HIS CLAWS GO INTO YOU, HE WILL LEARN NOT TO HAVE HIS CLAWS OUT WHEN YOU NURSE HIM AND HE WILL KNOW NOT TO EVER CLAW YOU. IT TOOK ME 3 MONTHS TO TEACH M,Y KITTEN THIS BUT IT WORKED. YOU DONT NEED TO SQUEEZE THE KITTIES PAWS HARD ENOUGH TO HURT HIM BUT ENOUGH TO LET HIM KNOW, NOT TO CLAW YOU. MY KITTEN ENDED UP BEING THE PERFECT CAT. HES LONG GONE NOW AND I WONT BE GETTING ANOTHER AS IM TOO OLD NOW.
I have the same issue, my kitten goes crazy everytime we cut her nails we did it around 4 times now, even the burrito technique doesn't work as she keeps fighting and biting, i try to comfort her but she just goes crazy when we hold her paws 😭
I cannot get my 9-mo Siamese on my lap, or on the floor, or table-- to get her in even half a burrito. She is so strong and resentful of any kind of restraining--I don't want to force her or she will not trust me. I got my 3 cats the ultimate cat scratcher and pepper it with treats, nip and toys.🐱🐱🐱
can you use a grinder just as easily? I have a cordless dremel was wondering if I can use the sandpaper barrel attachment, its tiny. I thought just a brief touch of it should work, certainly it would to smooth out but not sure it would remove my 3 mos kitten never cut nails I have scars to prove it is necessary and I do handle his feet but didn't realize I had to do this because I never did for 6 cats I have had but they went out a lot and climbed trees and scratched the bark regularly.
You can! Many people use a grinder for pet nails and it works great. You're right that outdoor cats certainly work their nails down much more than indoor cats do. Those claws are useful, and vital for their survival out there!
