Kelsey and Emmette, My husband and I adopted two kittens a few days ago. The girl looks just like "Butter". I found your kitten pedicure videos and decided to give it a try. I have the scissors you recommended, still in packaging from a while back. I squeezed the little toes a few times. It just ended up with the kitten running away. 😏😏 Then finally, I was able to complete our little girl's trimming. When it's the boy's turn, he ran away two clips later. We got him later after a nap, wrapped him in a burrito, and finished all 18. Thank you so much for making it simple. Two thumbs up! 👍👍 I would recommend your video to anyone.
lol yeah kittens are crazy! Just do a few toes here and there to start with. I’ve trained this kitten to be used to having her nails cut - there’s a link in the bio with an article explaining how 🙂
Thank you so much for this video. We recently adopted a 4 week old stray kitty and he’s now ready for his first clipping. We had no idea how to do it until we watched your tutorial. We’re looking forward to watching your other videos. Thank you!!!
I am a new kitten owner. A friend says you need to trim the front paws every 2 weeks to deter them from climbing and tearing up furniture . He says he only trims the back paws every month or 2. Our kitten is hard to hold still, so I am anxious to do this as quickly and with as little effort as possible. He also said to give them treats when it is done.
Congrats on your new kitten! I agree that the front claws get trimmed more than the back claws. Treats are great, but I find it works best to just go slowly and develop trust! Play with his paws gently when you’re petting him, and when you sit down for a nail trim, it’s okay to stop halfway through a paw. Before you know it you won’t even think twice about doing a quick nail snip, and your kitten will hardly notice because he’s so used to it.
You go girl! Spreading useful information here and being super humble with all the replying to the questions in the comment section ❤️ also thanks for the video! It did help alot and omg the kitties are soo cute! It's so beautiful to see how well you taking care of them :)

Thank you I need to buy some of the little clippers my kitten is very small his nails are like needles and so small I am worried I might go too short and it’s my first time I’d hate to hurt him
I usually snip with the clippers on top and bottom, but I don’t think it matters. Just snip the tip from whichever angle is most comfortable for you and the kitten.
Using a towel to gently wrap the kitten may help. I have another video on this, should be linked in the description. But also - don’t feel like you need to clip all the nails at once. If you can do one or two before the kitten flips out, I’d take that and then try for a few more later. No shame in doing all the nails over a couple of sessions/days. And feel free to give kitty a little treat or snack before/during after the nail sesh, to help her have positive associations with it
It takes practice touching their toes! And doing it at times when they are low energy. I walk you through my process in this blog post here! lovethesecats.com/how-to-cut-kitten-nails/
The specialty cat nail clippers make it easier but you can definitely use regular human nail clippers if you prefer. Here’s an article with some tips if you want to use regular clippers www.lovethesecats.com/how-to-cut-cat-nails-with-human-nail-clippers/

I’m so glad this was helpful! Kittens nails grow quickly but they’re all a little different. And it depends on how short you cut the nails, and how long they can get before you feel they are too long. Probably you’ll want to clip them every 2 weeks at least. I tend to keep a few pairs of clippers around the house and whenever I notice them getting long I’ll scoop up the kitten and clip as many nails as I can before they get impatient and run away. This works better once your kittens are used to having their nails clipped 🙂
@@LoveTheseCats_ thanks for replying.Yes i clipped nails of 3 kittens by folding them in towel 😛and 1st they refused next time they become calmer and now i check daily there nails 🤝😍thanks dear
Blood of Nel probably. Nails tend to be sharper on younger cats, just because they are so small and thin that they turn into sharp little Velcro hooks that catch on everything. It also depends on what your cat uses as a scratching post and their scratching habits
D M You probably can, but kitten nails are a different shape than human nails. That will make it harder to clip them with regular nail clippers, which might mean a negative experience for you and the kitten. The ones I’m using here are less than $5 at your local pet store or online (linked below vid)
Is it bad to trim my kittens nail? I trimmed her nails and now she doesn't want to walk. She is not so full of energy anymore, she used to play with us and usually chase you around. I found her near a dumpster and she is just 3 months old
Did she bleed when you trimmed her nails? If not, then it shouldn’t have caused her any pain. I would look into other reasons for her behavior. What does her vet think? And good on you for rescuing and caring for a stray kitten! 🐾💕
Miifu sometimes cats don’t like for their hands to be held so it might just be that. Be mindful not to trim her nails too short in the future but otherwise she should be just fine. @@LoveTheseCats_ Well thanks her nails grew back a bit and is back to normal. She can now walk and play with us. Just like the usual. Perhaps I trimmed the nails short and it caused all of it.
Fluffyvader way to go! Declawing is the worst for the kitties 😭 it’s even starting to be illegal in some states! You rock for advocating for your kitten and learning how to trim those nails!
Watching this while waiting for my kitten to calm down haha he’s about 1 1/2 months old. Loves to climbs legs so these nails definitely have to be trimmed
She will be fine. Cutting them longer is just my recommendation for a couple of reasons. If she did not bleed and she was not uncomfortable, then you’re good. It’s just much more likely that you will cut a wiggly kitten’s paw/“fingertip” if you are aiming to cut the claws very short. The goal is for the kitten to have a good experience getting a nail trim. When we take our fosters to spay/neuter appointments, the vet techs often cut the nails VERY short while they are sedated, to the point that it almost looks like it will hurt the kitten to walk afterwards. The claws grow back though and the kittens are fine. Congrats on trimming your kitty’s nails! It takes a lot of courage to do it at first 🙂🐾💕
Love These Cats I literally cried afterwards for a good hour while she slept because I thought I hurt it but she was fun she woke up and ran around like usual I was so happy
Oh no! My experience is much more with kittens than with cats, but when we did have to trim adult foster cat nails on one or two occasions, it was a lot more intimidating! Here’s an article I put together that covers our approach lovethesecats.com/how-to-cut-cat-nails/ basically, 1) do you *really* need to? LOL 2) take time to gain trust and get them used to touching their paws and extending claws. Use whatever sort of bribery - treats, pets, etc - to see if they’ll be okay with you touching their paws. 3) go slow and be patient and do the same as I demonstrate in our kitten nail trim videos 4) burrito the cat or have a friend help constrain if needed 5) enlist a professional because some cats are JUST not having it! GOOD LUCK! 😩🐾😅🐱💞
thank you. I am a new cat owner, and I thought if we trim their nails, they will not grow again :) I found animals in sanctuary that they do not have nails because the owner wanted them to be pets and they are wild animals. I do not wanted to be like these people so I kept the kitten nails ha ha ha. thanks God I found your video after 1 week only of having y little kitten
Thank you for taking wonderful care of your kitten and not declawing! Declawing is so sad and painful for the kitties. I’m so glad this was helpful and enjoy your new kitten! 😻😻
I appreciated this video, thank you! Lots of good tips. I have a 5 month old kitten and have taken her to someone in order to have her nails trimmed. I've been thinking of doing it myself to save money and it's best to start young. I'm just nervous so I'm watching as many videos as possible. I liked yours for these tips: - trim them when they are sleepy or calmer and not after playing with them - visually seeing where and what part to trim - how to press the paws to bring the nails out - to pet/press the paws when not trimming so they get used to the action Now, I just need to see how to burrito a kitten!... just in case. Question - Does it matter if the nail clipper is vertical to the nail or horizontal? Thanks so much, Susan
Thank you so much for the feedback! I’m so glad this was helpful 🤗 Regarding how to hold the clippers - cat claws are pretty evenly round, so it shouldn’t matter if the clippers are horizontal or vertical on the nail. The clippers I use have a rounded opening as well. I typically come at the nail from the side (horizontally) as that makes me feel like I have the most control and can securely clip the tip of the claw 🙂 good luck with your kitten and let me know how it goes! 🐱💞
I have a ragdoll and im very nervous about clipping his nails, hes 4 months old and i cant even hold him cos when he kneads my skin he is burying his nails in my skin
Melissa it’s intimidating at first! what part of the nail clipping makes you nervous? Practice touching his paws during cuddle time, and try the burrito method I show in the next video 🙂
@@LoveTheseCats_ well u wont believe it. I did the burrito method in ur video and it worked wonders but today i checked his paws and 2 nails have split. He was meowing a lot and im afraid hes in pain.. i feel horrible.. 😭😭
Try it when he’s sleepy, or after he eats! And go slowly. Start by just touching his paws and playing with his toes. Then after he is used to that try extending the nail. Then after that the next day maybe try clipping one. Building trust with these kittens takes time! They don’t understand what the heck we are trying to do to their feet 🙀😂🐱💕
haha! it's going to be so fun! What are you nervous about? kittens are hilarious and their claws aren't bad at all, especially if you teach them not to use them on people from a young age :)
Erika Erika oh yes! I’ve seen others use a clip on the scruff as well. I’ve never used a clip, but if I need to i’ll typically grip them on the scruff with my hand so I can use the right amount of pressure and also keep them from escaping :) but once the kitties are comfortable with their paws being handled they often don’t need to be scruffed at all!
I enjoyed the part when you sped up the speed drastically while cutting the nails during a video showing us how to cut the nails. I mean, no one wants to see that, right?
Sadly, my cat was adopted at 6 months. I can play - caress her feet, but that doesn’t help when I try to trim nails. I have to take her to the $ vet $ who insures me my cat is a perfect lady for them 😡. I cant keep affording this. Next time I am going to armor up w/ leather gauntlet rose trimming gloves and wrap her in a blanket and I guess force her??
N. Gibbs do you have a friend or partner who can help you? If one person holds the scruff and/or the towel around them, the other can probably do nails more easily. I’m sure this is what happens at your vet. Keep working on touching her feet and she may get used to the process over a long period of time. And try giving her some really yummy treats before and after trimming her nails. I hope next time it goes better for you!!
The Business Buddha she's trimming her nails instead of declawing. Trimming their nails keep them from getting infection, in-grown nails, and even hurting themselves. Their nails grow all the time just like ours.

my kitten is about 1 month old and she’s always trying to scratch me so i really want to trim her nails
also her nails get stuck in everything
전 give it a shot! It’s easier than it seems and then she’ll stop getting caught on everything 🤗
but how do I do it when I have a cat who immediately freaks out and starts wanting to turn my hand into shredded beef?
I liked yours for these tips:
- trim them when they are sleepy or calmer and not after playing with them
- visually seeing where and what part to trim
- how to press the paws to bring the nails out
- to pet/press the paws when not trimming so they get used to the action
Now, I just need to see how to burrito a kitten!... just in case.
Question - Does it matter if the nail clipper is vertical to the nail or horizontal?
Thanks so much,
Susan
Thank you so much for the feedback! I’m so glad this was helpful 🤗 Regarding how to hold the clippers - cat claws are pretty evenly round, so it shouldn’t matter if the clippers are horizontal or vertical on the nail. The clippers I use have a rounded opening as well. I typically come at the nail from the side (horizontally) as that makes me feel like I have the most control and can securely clip the tip of the claw 🙂 good luck with your kitten and let me know how it goes! 🐱💞
@@LoveTheseCats_ Good to know, thanks for getting back to me!
my kittens mean
5:00 the kittens scared she has her tail underneath her
sorry not as much since the video keep going out of focus. Also didn't show how to wrap in towel if for the first time either
I LIKECATS
my kitten is not like this 💀😣 he start hitting me or starts scratching me
Try it when he’s sleepy, or after he eats! And go slowly. Start by just touching his paws and playing with his toes. Then after he is used to that try extending the nail. Then after that the next day maybe try clipping one. Building trust with these kittens takes time! They don’t understand what the heck we are trying to do to their feet 🙀😂🐱💕
Oh wait..........I don't have a kitten. I guess I can't do this then.
Can you trim my kittens' nails?:).
🤣🤣🤣
😳 Shailene Woodley is that you?
😂 do I have a twin out there?
Poor kitty doesn't want to be a model today. Wants to chase that shadow on the floor.
Kitties always have an important agenda but they need to get their nails clipped at some point 🙃
My brother is getting a kitten n for me it’s the first kitten ever I’m terrified I’m mostly a only my dog person😂💀
haha! it's going to be so fun! What are you nervous about? kittens are hilarious and their claws aren't bad at all, especially if you teach them not to use them on people from a young age :)
I deactivate my fosters to trim the nails, i am tired of the scratches 😁
Erika Erika deactivate?
Kelsey and Emmette calm a cat down by using a clip to make it think it’s being carried. It activates the cat’s “go-limp” reflex-without hurting it.
Kelsey and Emmette that works well too
I enjoyed the part when you sped up the speed drastically while cutting the nails during a video showing us how to cut the nails.
Love These Cats Thank you SO much for replying - & so expediently!! I will try to do the friend thing! Thanks
Good luck! Let me know how it goes! 🐱🤗
Lol my kitten won’t have it
thank you for torturing the kitten through out the video
YOU ARE WELCOME. doitforthevine xx
Tiny huh ig.
Step one get a cat
Way too long. Need to shorten this.
Agree 👍
Are you serious cutting a healthy cat's claws?
The Business Buddha she's trimming her nails instead of declawing. Trimming their nails keep them from getting infection, in-grown nails, and even hurting themselves. Their nails grow all the time just like ours.
also they get stuck in fabrics and insect screens
You are supposed to cut cats claws to keep them healthy
It's hygienic and it stops the kitten from scratching the furniture up😘
