Aww come on, like everybody here I would love love love to see one of these demos using a true 'difficult cat'. They're not that hard to find. I know it can be done, I've watched the vet assistant wrap my cat so fast I jaw dropped but it's so quick I have no idea what just happened.
That's exactly why it is better to demo on a compliant cat. This is exactly how I do it in the clinic on a more difficult cat but much harder to demonstrate slowly and in a way that is easy to see on camera (especially when you are filming yourself!)
@@OurPetsHealth Good point so I'll modify my comment. How about a demo on a compliant cat for technique, then a second to show how well it applies to average Joe Kitty. BUT I will say my vet's assistant can snatch and wrap my cat in about two seconds. 😁
I know what you mean, it helps me so much to see it in action to know what to expect. I know for a fact I definitely can't expect my cat to sit still on a towel for any length of time, so all of these videos I'm finding still don't feel very helpful. My cat is young and wiggly and still doesn't like being held all the time. I need to figure out how to do this effectively twice a day and I have the feeling the more I do it, the more she'll learn how to thwart my efforts. An example in slow motion with a calm cat and then another with an actually difficult cat would be so ideal!
I appreciate these videos! Unfortunately they're not helpful for me because my cat goes mental when I try to do this and she tries to bite my face she freaks right out! The cats in these videos that I have watched are completely calm
When doing it with an angry cat, start by trying to distract them with something else like a toy or food long enough to get them sitting on the towel without them freaking out. Depending on how resistant or angry the cat gets with handling you may be able to get them to lay down like he showed, if not scruff them first so youre not harmed trying. Its not really bullshit, thats literally what we do with cats on our clinic. A good scruff and a towel really go a long way.
My cat refuses to go prone when I do this. I can't find any videos of anyone doing a resistant cat, even the ones labeled as such She never stops fighting and won't open her mouth
yeah, these videos are all such bullshit. Its pretty clear how to wrap a cat that does not move. I want a tutorial on how to get my cat to stand still (not even prone) or even to get onto the towel.
Two tips: 1 - be fast, 2 - pull the cat backwards, or sideways. Their legs won't have much stopping power that way. If you do just straight down their joints are going to lock and you're not getting anywhere
My cat is like the Tasmanian devil. He heights so much to get away and since he is a large cat, he is STRONG! Wish any of the vids about this or giving meds would show an uncooperative cat!
Mine too; every time I think I’ve got her wrapped up securely, she manages to push her paws up and out and wriggle her way to freedom. And I have to give her several medications for the next few weeks
My cat is fiesty when it comes to this. The trick is to use your weight and kind of straddle the cat with your legs to push them down to the "loaf" position. Then wrap them tight. And continue to straddle them when working on the cat (claw clipping, meds, etc) it aint pretty and a workout but it beats getting clawed up and slapped
This is much more helpful than some the previous tutorials I'd watched, the other ones never explained the paws-out method to do a claw trim. I've done it wrong so many times I accidentally gave my cat a bad association with fleece blankets! Fortunately she's calmed a bit in the last year or so since I tried, so I might be able to give it another shot
Still waiting for a technique that actually works with mine to trim his nails. Instantly starts trying to wildly back out of any burrito and by myself even getting him wrapped up still requires a third hand I don’t have to actually trim.

This is a joke. Just tried this with 2 people trying to give my cat a pill. Once I grab her moth to bring it straight up to pop in the pill she sinks her neck back and starts slinging her head from side to side. There's no way!
Thank you this is a great demonstration of how to wrap the cat. We recently adopted a 1 year old kitty and have helped her blossom from an extremely fearful cat into a delightfully confident kitty cat. She knows we’re in authority and would never harm her. Thank you so much, one of our cats injured his back-leg, he’s the kindest and most gentle, but we could tell how frustrated he was yesterday, while changing his bandage, he got a firm grip on my arm and did bite me twice (not leaving marks), but only to show me he’s not happy with my behavior 😅🙈😅 poor thing

Can you please do a video on nasal tumors in dogs. I’m so worried my 14 year old 12 pound Yorkiepoodle has a nasal tumor or nasal cancer. Suddenly he seems to need to clear one side of his nostrils, he had bleeding from one of the nostrils, and while it’s not much blood, the bleeds are increasing in incidents. I give him Benadryl because I was told of the possibility of allergies. He seems to do better with the Benadryl but if I skip it he’s back to trying to clear that side of the nose. I’m very confused worried right now. What should I do?
Straddling our cat and using a beach towel, made all the difference in restraining our cat. But it took 2 of us because he's big and strong, with an attitude The vet that neutered him, wouldn't even clip his nails without putting him completely under..
I think the squishing and towel and treats are necessities. My cats love Greenies Chicken Flavored Treats. It cleans their teeth at the same time. I'm going to give this a go using the treats. I had one cat that I had since it was a kitten. I used to clip him without coercion while he was lying next to me on the couch. I started with his front claws and then laid him on a soft pillow to do his back claws. I was always able to get through it quickly. He's gone now, but he was the sweetest gentle giant. I have 2 cats now, and I do them exactly the same. However, one is a real scardy cat, and I have to use the towel with her. I still use a soft, thin pillow when I lay her on her back to do her back claws. The treats are something new I've learned recently from Jackson Galaxy. It really helps her get over being afraid when company comes over. Since I've had company give her treats when they visit, she no longer hides under the bed. I haven't used the treats with doing her nails yet, but I will now. I know that it's already worked in another situation beautifully.
@@OurPetsHealth Aww, I bet she's a beautiful cat as well. :) Honestly, I could never trade my 3 cats away. They're so sweet...except when it comes to cutting their nails!
Um, if it’s just you and the cat, and your one hand (and forearm) is holding the cat down, and the other hand is holding the paw and exposing the claw, where is your third hand that is clipping the claw? Did I miss something?
Sometimes you do just need an extra hand or two but, depending on your cat, it can be done by yourself using a bulldog clip to hold the towel firmly in place and giving plenty of their favorite treats. leaning over your cat from behind and "squishing" them with your torso also allows you to have both hands free (a bit tricky to describe rather than show)
Sounds good on paper......one of mine is a veteran of fkry and vanishes in a blink of the eye, the other is pretty docile until shes not.....at that point shes ready for war and welcomes all takers.
The purrito sure helps. She doesn't eat treats or wet food so pills are a challenge and she turns from loving to going berserk when i break the towel out even occasionally peeing cause she is scared.
you don't want to use a thick blanket. Yes it will help with ear cleaning but I'd encourage you to use a lot of treats to make is a more pleasant experience if this is something you are going to need to do a lot
You can hold them firmer by keeping them on the table and pressed against your body under your arm to then have your hands both free. A peg on the towel can help to keep it in place as well. Some cats would benefit from an extra pair of hands though
my cat has a wound thats bleeding again, basically we wrap it , spray it, sometimes after spraying it would bleed then it wouldn't. He is on a appetite stim and we gave him a little more to help him eat more, he hasn't been eating last few days much, we would lower the appete stim back and he doeskin eat but seems the bleeding on the wound stops. I think for some reason I think above the wound there is a area that is hard like blood pooling into the wound or something.
I have two kitties, and one tends to behave while I clip her nails, aside from some squirming and complaining. My kitten Felix, though, despite being a very sweet boy, starts hissing and growling and goes on the offensive when I do his nails. Last time, he got dangerously close to my eye…so I’m going to give this a shot and hope it makes things easier!
My cat takes getting front claws clipped in the burrito very well but try touching the back claws and he turns into a tornado, I have to let him go because I don't want him to hurt himself. But I need these back claws trimmed he's gouging gashes in my arms and legs even when he's playful
Gonna try this on Bill the cat first (he's docile) then work my way to Aries (can be a bit of handful) to the one who has to get a pill, my cute and affectionate 7.7kg Athena who when giving her a pill is like trying to sharpen a chainsaw while it's running. You make it look so easy to do.
But if you don't have two people for nail trimming, holding the head secure with one hand and squeezing the paw with the other hand so that the claws are exposed, means that you are out of hands. How are you then supposed to clip? That cat was awfully calm. My foster kitty squirms, bites, and claws like her life depends on it.
I have a vicious cat so I'm not sure it would work bc she can get out of anything she chases my rottweiler out of my room with his tail bettween his legs
@@OurPetsHealth Doesn't she mean subcutaneous fluids? 🤔 Here's in the US (and in Brazil where I'm originally from) vets tell people to do it at home all the time. I work with a family that has a cat in renal failure. They give him subcutaneous fluids every single day. At diagnosis they said he'd probably not survive longer than three weeks, he's still alive three years later.
So you still can't trim the nails alone this way I think at this point my cats nails can jusy grow back into him Im running out of ideas and will power to force this
Hello. Nothing works with my cat. Even the boritto way. I don't care for cutting his nails because it not even questionnable to try to do it. But i care to cut a little of the hair at his butt area. He keeps pooping and peeing and the pee and poop gets stuck on it. Need to cut it. But he won't let me. He s really big. Like 8 kilos. Maybe now more i don't know. I have two cats. Both feral. Got them from street when they were just 2 weeks old the female and 3 weeks the male. But unfortunately they are so hard in everything.but i love them so much.
some cats will need additional strategies and potentially calming medication or supplements if they really hate it. Have a chat to your vet about these options and what they'd suggest
Dang, this makes me realize how lucky I am with my cats. I took in a very calm sweet pregnant stray and while the boys arent as sweet, they certainly arent terrors. If I practice on the calm ones the boys only sit still for a few seconds, but I can get them wrapped in that time I'm sure. Currently have the girl burrito wrapped under my arm cuz she is in heat and very loud when not cuddling, and I have to keep her in bedroom away from the boys for now
Lol my girl Bluey is the scariest of cats. She goes absolutely ballistic when i try to restraint her... it aint pretty. Its so hard to keep her groomed and clipped ☹️
My cats are psychotic: -A pill giver doesn't work. -Mixing the tablets in food doesn't work. -Wrapping them in a towel doesn't work. -Getting 5 people to hold one of them down doesn't work. Each time I try I end up mortally wounded...So I have to just pay the extra and get the vets to give them the tablets 😐
While this is a nice showing, please show how to do a difficult cat. This one is easy. My cat does not like to take medicine and gives me a hard way to go. PLEASE show how to wrap a difficult cat in a towel - even if you have to show it in slow motion, or tell us how to do it would be mostly appreciated. Thank you.
How about doing follow up videos on random actually difficult cats? Not a tame cat that is comfortable with you This cat here would not even need the towel I am sure you have no problems giving it pills or doing nails We are looking for videos with truly difficult cats, as some of us have a impossible time and need help!
I just tried a scarf body swaddle with my very clingy cat to see if she would like it. I supported her the whole time, because I didn't trust my knot. She purred the whole time. I think she will like it when she is in the "I want to be right next to you, touching you" moods.
Didn’t work at all. Wrapped my cat exactly as shown, she fought so hard and eventually had to let her go because she was squirming so bad I couldn’t even get a single nail cut. PLEASE SHOW ON A DIFFICULT CAT!!!
You're cat is way to cooperative to give me any idea how to get my cat into a cat burrito. If I could use two hands to pick her up and hold her by the scruff of the neck I wouldn't have needed to look for advice.

I work with a family that has a cat in renal failure. They give him subcutaneous fluids every single day. At diagnosis they said he'd probably not survive longer than three weeks, he's still alive three years later.
@@GiovanaSimmer I am sure that he has many more years to live. Miracles happen everyday. God bless the family and all furbabies
what if ur cat is wiggly. like my kitten is a sweetheart and isn’t mad or anything but he’s so slippery
a nice firm wrap is key, but can be hard to get right
Mine won't scratch me, but is a very talented escape artist...this towel is much more difficult in practice.
Hey doc just send me a couple vials of Ketaset and I can skip all this. One for me and one for my Russian Blue
how do you wrap them if you need to clean their bum?
So you still can't trim the nails alone this way
I think at this point my cats nails can jusy grow back into him
Im running out of ideas and will power to force this
Need to learn this because were moving and the cat carrier broke!!
Oh no! Good luck with the move
The 1980s called. They want their towel back.
I wasn't aware towel technology had advanced since then!
I'm going to attempt this on my sketchy ass cat wish me luck 🙃
Good luck!
Currently have the girl burrito wrapped under my arm cuz she is in heat and very loud when not cuddling, and I have to keep her in bedroom away from the boys for now
Not helpful if you live alone. We only have two hands!!! As a vet tech however, I agree totally with this video!!
try a bulldog clip or similar to hold the wrap together. It does depend a little on how "helpful" your cat is being though for this to hold
I’m hoping this works for my cat, because she always turns to liquid when I try to give her medicine.
It’s just an example guys. 😂 He’s just showing us how to make a cat burrito, not so much the angry kitty.
I just need to get my cat through our big house move
this might help stop them stressing too much - ruclips.net/video/FncqZ8C-Q-k/видео.html
@@OurPetsHealth thank you
She seems more pissed out the longer you keep rolling her lol
Anything to help me control a pissed off cat. Mine kicks like a maniac and I can't bandage his back paw. Please do this with a cat that will fight.
My cat would be gone before the video started 🤣
I can't even get my cat ON the towel. She's crazy
this probably wont work then!
She's a lot quieter than my tiger. 😀
Lol my girl Bluey is the scariest of cats. She goes absolutely ballistic when i try to restraint her... it aint pretty. Its so hard to keep her groomed and clipped ☹️
My cats are psychotic:
-A pill giver doesn't work.
-Mixing the tablets in food doesn't work.
-Wrapping them in a towel doesn't work. -Getting 5 people to hold one of them down doesn't work.
Each time I try I end up mortally wounded...So I have to just pay the extra and get the vets to give them the tablets 😐
I wanted to be a vet but everytime I have to give meds to my cat I'm reminded of why I can't become a vet
Also does catnip work on your cat?
I used it with my cat but he turns into a kangaroo jumping every where 🤣💔
Lol
😂
While this is a nice showing, please show how to do a difficult cat. This one is easy. My cat does not like to take medicine and gives me a hard way to go. PLEASE show how to wrap a difficult cat in a towel - even if you have to show it in slow motion, or tell us how to do it would be mostly appreciated. Thank you.
this is how you do it in a difficult cat, practice on a soft toy or compliant cat first
How about doing follow up videos on random actually difficult cats?
Not a tame cat that is comfortable with you
This cat here would not even need the towel I am sure you have no problems giving it pills or doing nails
We are looking for videos with truly difficult cats, as some of us have a impossible time and need help!
Purrito Confirmed????,!1!!1
I'm actually here for writing research reasons lol
I just tried a scarf body swaddle with my very clingy cat to see if she would like it. I supported her the whole time, because I didn't trust my knot. She purred the whole time. I think she will like it when she is in the "I want to be right next to you, touching you" moods.
Most vets just give them medicine to calm them...My cat needs it, destroyed 3 Veterinarian offices ?? She's a sweetheart, but, doesn't like the doctor
Didn’t work at all. Wrapped my cat exactly as shown, she fought so hard and eventually had to let her go because she was squirming so bad I couldn’t even get a single nail cut. PLEASE SHOW ON A DIFFICULT CAT!!!
This might work with compliant cats... 😂
You're cat is way to cooperative to give me any idea how to get my cat into a cat burrito. If I could use two hands to pick her up and hold her by the scruff of the neck I wouldn't have needed to look for advice.
