Thank you for putting this wonderful video together! It shows patience, gentleness, respect, and taking it slow and steady!! I am sharing it with my followers!! Bless you :)
You're a beautiful human being for making this video! I was finally able to clip 2 of my kittys back nails right after watching this!!!!!!!!! He's so fussy when I grab his toes but he actually let me do a few. lol. I'mma try again later when he's hungrier for snacks.
omg im so happy to hear that!!! that's definitely progress! slow and steady with tons of snacks, your kitty will let you clip all it's nails in 1 go in the future =)
While I gotta say that my rescued shorthair is going to be a lot trickier to deal with than ragdoll-like breeds, I think your suggestions sound useful and I actually feel a lot more hopeful. Thanks for sharing!
i think an older rescue ( no matter the breed ) who might not be used to nail trims will be more difficult. as long as you are patient and give them something that they love as their motivation ( such as treats ) anything is possible!! =) good luck!
awwww thank you!! really? they don't react to catnip at all? or they've had too much exposure to it and stop reacting? because i've tried a catnip spray before and it was useless lol and ya! i got the toy from dollar store! so worth the whole $1.25 hahahha n Deku definitely has her good and naughty moments lol~
Kuku's Diary Omgsh what a good find 🤣!! Nah, they never had any reaction to it - tried catnip spray, fresh cat nip plant and dried cut catnip. I guess it wasn’t meant to be 😅
Your kitty is beautiful! My AnnaBell is younger and doesn’t like to be restrained. I don’t know what bad treatment she may have experienced before she showed up in our garage. I think you have the right idea. It may take us longer with her but I think it would be worth it! Thank you for posting!😻
You're right about everything being done on their terms! My kitten is only 3 months old and he won't even sit still for the paw massages! In the mean time he's scratching me while playing!
2:59 When I first introduce the nail clippers, should I massage all four of my cat’s paws before trying to clip? She’s okay with letting me massage her paws, but fights me as soon as I start trying to clip her nails.
@@jennifermendoza9087 oh nooooo!! how long have you had him? is the litter box placed in a quiet low human traffic place? because they may be too scared to use it if there are other humans or animals around because they are afraid they might get attacked when using the litter box. or sometimes cats dont use the litter box is because they dont like the litter type or box shape. so you might want to try different litters especially unscented litter. and when he does use the litter box, reward him with a treat after so that he would be encouraged to use the litter box in the future. another reason a cat might not use a litter box is because they are sick. have you brought him to the vet since you got him home? maybe you might want to consult a vet as well
@@jennifermendoza9087 also remember to wash out those sheets completely and maybe use a deodorizing product thats made especially for cleaning up pet messes to get rid of the smell of pee or poop. because if they smell their own scent ( which is their pee ) on your bed or any other area, they will be more inclined to pee or poop there again in the future. so its really important to get rid of that smell in places where you dont want them to pee or poop in the future
Oh she is so calm tho 😭 our cat (tabby), for a while now we can't cut her nails. She doesn't really bite but tries to bite or we get scratches. Once we tried giving her snack after some cut to stay her still but whenever she saw it being crazy to get and it gets harder to hold her 😅 also i think she is little bit enough with our love to her (me, mom and sister) and we even hardly hug her and she doesn't really want us to pet her if we don't give her food or want some petting before sleep. She suddenly being a turtledove. While givig food she acts like we don't feed her regularly. Especially after neutreuzed she is obsessed with food. Her food was always in her bowl and she was eating it in day but now we have to seperate meals because she eat all at once anymore. Always begging for food and she starts meowing lovely and look into eye persistently, plays to your conscience for real 😅 Really i don't know what to do at the time, our vet told us it can be hard for a while because of hormones but don't know how long it will take really
Wow. I wish I had the patience to wait this many days. No wonder I just end up taking him to a professional. I wish my cat would just be cooperative then I wouldn't have to take him somewhere he doesn't want to go.
patience is definitely key when it comes to training a cat to do something they don't love doing. im sure if you got his favourite treat & spend days or weeks training him for nail trims, i'm sure he won't have to see a professional =) plus its a perfect bonding time for you and your cat!!
Thanks for this video. Deku is a beautiful kitty. Is she a Siberian? I have two 5 month old Siberian sisters and am just now trying to massage their paws when petting them, to get it. Hopefully trimming will occur soon but they have so much fur between their toes that it's difficult to find the nail. LOL!
THAT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU HAD SOMETHING LIKE THIS FOR GIVING CATS A BATH. Thank you. I now see there is hope. This cat has the same expressions of mine. The very first glance or look she gave? Yesss I know that look and no wonder it took so much time and patience. I'm going to have to do the same thing. Last try I gave up on is I bought some expensive thick gloves but I couldn't use the scissors cause too thick. So I cut holes in my expensive new gloves so my fingers can stick out and I can use the scissors. First I had to wrap my fingers with material so she can't bite them. Took so long the whole process and it didn't work the material kept falling off my fingers. Even into the middle of the night there I was trying. I finally threw them into the trash. It hurts them to walk when their nails are too long. But try explaining it to them.
My cat does not like any treats that I buy her. She is very picky. I have tried different flavors and she is not interested. I have been able to cut her back paws with no issue but front paws are what I'm having trouble with. She is not treat motivated so I'm unsure what to do :( she does like tuna out of the can so maybe I can try that
as long as you can find something she likes you can use that for sure! my new kitten isnt comfortable with me cutting his nails yet because i havent trained him yet. so i just use the burrito method ( still a struggle but gets the job done ) . look up how to burrito a cat to trim their nails. maybe that would help!
Some really good tips, however you need to be able to get them to sit on your lap first. I have a very friendly cat as long as you don't try to hold it. I haven't figured out a workaround for that yet as wrapping in a towel or blanket only makes it worse unfortunately. I will try some of your tips like playing with him to tire him out first and only doing one at a time at first with treats after. The last part I've been doing with not much success but perhaps with the other two I can work him through it.
I adopted a cat 1year ago and i can`t even touch for a sec his paws, he has 5-6 years and i don`t know how i will succed because treats don`t help me. :(
if he's 5-6 years old he's probably never had people trim his nails regularly before so it will definitely take lots of patience to train him to be comfortable with you touching his paws. does he have other things that he likes if he doesn't like treats?
If I do your day 1 my cat tries to bite me (she is 6 months old) I'm trying to touch her paws as much as she'll let me while giving her treats to see if that works eventually
What do you suggest for cats who are always wired? Lol my cat is only 6 months so I know it takes a little more for her to get tired but she still manages to be aggressive no matter how patient I am.
have you tried just getting her used to you touching her paws? or try trimming one nail when they are asleep? because when my kitten was 4months old, his energy is through the roof. i had to wait till he fell asleep to just trim one nail. but slowly as he grew older he's become more calm so you might need to wait a little as well.
@@kukusdiary9022 I was actually able to file 1 nail down while she was asleep ! I used my e-file since I'm a nail technician lol and used the softest file bit I had. First I placed the e-file on her body while on low so she could feel the vibration and I massaged the foot I wanted to work on. She opened her eyes a bit but my e-file is pretty quiet so it didn't bother her surprisingly. When I tried getting another nail though she wasn't having it lol. Will try again today! Patience is really key 🥺
No sure how long this will take wih a bengal 🙄 60 days may take a good half year.. 😅 Tha knyiu anyway for showing you method and you've a gorgeous furbaby 😍
My cat doesn't even let me touch her paws 😭 I have this cat for 3 months now and still she isn't cozy with me. I really don't know what to do. If I touch her she either wiggles out or scratches and bites my hands. I guess it was a mistake to think I could ever tame a cat
This is a really great video. Will this actually save your furniture? Or greatly reduce damage to furniture? A couple of my cats have started scratching things more.
i'd say it'll reduce the damage depending on the material the furniture is made of. you can also find some cat deterrant sprays that are safe for pets at the pet store. maybe that will help you if you don't want your cats scratching on any furniture. and definitely put cat scratching posts near the furniture they shouldnt be scratching so that they can learn what to scratch and what not to scratch
oh noooo!!!! well cats under 1 year is still considered a kitten, so you might have to wait a tiny bit longer for her to calm down and grow out of that kitten energy? have you tried just holding her paw like when she is laying down? maybe let her get used to you touching her paw first? waiting till they're sleeping might help too. when i got my second kitten i would sneakily trim one nail while he is sleeping. but then he would wake up after hahaha
also if your kitten likes to bite you, you should train them not to because when they become adults, those bites would hurt even more. maybe try everytime she bites you from now on, redirect her to biting her toys instead of you. so maybe keep one of her toys near you at all times so whenever she starts biting you, just give her the toy to bite instead then praise her
@@Moa0107 have you tried playing with your cats first to tire them out? or try to clip their nails when they are sleeping? because deku hates being wrapped in a blanket as well. so thank God she likes treats. but maybe use cooked chicken bits as treats for your cats then?
