Susan Kester I’m getting a new kitten soon. And I know my other cat will not accept it at first cause she acts like the leader to the other cats and I’ve been freaking out
P K oh no I’m freaking out Now. I’m getting the cat in a few days and I’m pretty sure how one of my cats are going to react to the kitten but the other think she like the boss even know she is our newest cats( had her for probably 9 months)
It’s so hard at first isn’t it, we got a new kitten yesterday & our existing kitten really doesn’t like her. It’s made me so anxious but I’m just going to wait it out, I do hope they get along
Same here but our existing cat gets really aggressive and bites and the little kitten meows like why you hurting me. I'm losing hope. Any advise - will my existing cat ever calm down and accept him. Its only been 8 days. I will keep the hope and be patient. My cat is leash trained. Do you think I can try having her on a leash while the new cat roams around and she can follow him but on a leash? Please help and what's your opinion on that would that be okay to do?? Thanks so much.
I have a new kitten and my girl adult cat does not like him, but my other is okay. I hope my kitten doesn’t become a bully to both, cus he’s a bold one
I have 2 existing cats and a new kitten. One cat was fine after a day, but the other is still throwing tantrums and she will not eat even with the kitten on the other side of the door. If she smells the kitten, she's growling and hissing. But, I hope with time it gets better! I want a companion for my kitten so I can start my new job.
@@sbkmarkel one of my cats will play with her and kinda moms her. The other is still not happy, but will deal with it. We try to keep them separated as much as we can, but due to work sometimes they have to be in the same room for a couple of hours. No fights though thankfully. We make sure we give our grumpy cat lots of love and attention and positive association and she's always happy at the end of the day.
I thought I'd do another update: Both cats are comfortable around her! The grumpy one from before is only grumpy when she gets tackled, but neither of them will hurt her. We leave the 3 of them alone while we are at work and we have a camera up to watch them and the two play together all the time while the grumpy one just chills, but she's visibly relaxed. Just don't wanna play. My kitten is about 15-16 weeks old now with all her shots now and is going to get spayed once it's time and hopefully once she gets spayed she will be a tiny bit more calm so the grumpy cat doesn't have to worry about random pouncings on her while she's sleeping 😂
Hi Joanna! I am so glad that this video was helpful. Hissing, and some swatting, is totally normal behavior when two cats are getting to know one another. It's part of the process. I encourage you to allow the cats to meet under supervised visits after they have had a couple of days of "door sniffing". Good luck!
It’s been 1 week in half almost 2 weeks since I brought a new kitten home & my resident cat has finally accepted her new brother! They groom each other, take naps together, & play with each other. I was super stressed & felt awful the first few days bc my resident cat was very pissed about the new kitty but literally doing everything in this video helped me. Dedicate a lot of time & effort into the introduction process. Your kitties will love you for it!
It's so nice to hear everything worked out so well! I've taken in stray cats for 20 years. Right now I have 4 cats. 3 males, ages 2, 7 and 10 and a very recent addition, a female kitten I named Violet. I heard Violet crying under a bush. She was scared, hungry and cold. The vet gave me instructions for Violet's care, but she advised me that Violet may not survive. However... my little girl made it! I would've been thrilled just to see her survive, but Violet took it up like 10 notches beyond basic survival. That little mama has THRIVED! Violet weighed just 0.3 pounds was so weak she couldn't lift her head, let alone stand up. 4 months later and Violet is a happy, healthy, energetic, fearless kitty. She's intensely curious and has come so far physically! In under 4 months, my girl went from too weak to lift her head to a 3am zoomie machine! Lol, the best part is that I never had to implement any of my plans to get my 3 adult boys to accept, nor my plans for helping Violet to not be scared of her big brother cats. Violet, and this is absolutely not an exaggeration, literally RUNS THE SHOW among her siblings. I don't know how she does this, but when it's time to eat Violet has gotten the 3 older male cats to wait until she decides which plate of food is going to be hers! They actually sit back and wait for her to select her plate and begin eating before any of those three guys even APPROACH their food! Then if Violet finishes her meal and feels like doing this, she will go over to one of my male cats and nudge them and no freaking joke, the male cat will walk away and Violet will eat some of his food! She also runs the playtime dynamic among the 4 cats. If one of her brothers approaches her to play, she usually plays with him. But if another cat tries to initiate playtime and she's not in the mood she let's him know immediately that he better back the eff up and leave her alone! Then the times when Violet will initiate play, the male almost always obliges. I can't tell if it's a welcome suggestion to the male cat and he truly does want to play with her, or if he just goes along with it because somehow she has declared herself queen of this little feline family and - no clue how - my 3 male cats OBEY HER COMMANDS! So basically she decided she was the boss, told them she was the boss, and they, all 3 of them, were just like "Okay, Boss!" OMG it's so funny!
Mine did too, for anyone who is new and reading this and worried. They’re playing with each other now, running all after each other and have to be over each other anytime they’re not separated (still erring on the side of caution). Mine hissed nonstop for the first two days, actually. Just give them time.
i feel awful lmao i just brought a new kitten home and while introducing my older cat hissed at me i couldn’t help it i burst into tears that cat is like my best friend lmao and i feel like he hates me or i’m scared he’s going to think i’m replacing him
any updates? i want to get another kitten but i have 2 cats that are sisters, but one of them is like obsessed with me and follows me everywhere and loves me but i’m scared that my cat right now will be upset at me and the kitten
@@jordanbrice4941 it’s actually going really well he stopped hissing at the kitten on the first day. he tries playing with him but is too rough and ends up hurting him so i can’t leave them alone together the only thing that makes me kind of sad is my older cat won’t come for cuddles when the kitten is around he can also be a bit mean to me but everyday, i go upstairs with the older cat (leaving the kitten downstairs) and as soon as we are alone, my older cat is right back to his loving cuddly self :)
@@ro468 update! i got her! she’s doing rlly well and my cat still love me hahah!! she shows affection still when the kitten is around, sometimes she’ll leave when she sees the kitten moving towards me but still! i’m happy!
Patience is the key and not to rush it.. My male cat was horrified when we brought in another male.. Of course we kept them separated initially but the few times they did see each other they would scream and yell.. And on the odd occasion had a couple of punch ups.. It took about 4 months of feeding them in separate spaces but also able to see each other.. And later having them both on leash during little introductions.. Its also best not to leave them Alone together even after they seem reasonably friendly.. Now they absolutely adore each other and quite frankly even ignore us😀
@@Yana.d8 good luck! One thing I did was feed them on either side of a glass door so that they could engage in a social activity from afar.. So keep them separate but place kitten from time to time in older cats area and adult cat in kittens area so that they get used to each others smell..
I watched many "how to introduce cats" videos and this one is my favorite. It is reasonably easy to do, to the point, and concisely tells many useful tips. Thanks!
Hello Maysam, thank you so much for the comment I really appreciate it! I am thrilled that you found the video helpful. Introducing cats is usually NEVER easy, but it doesn't have to be a train wreck either. Too many people give up quickly when all the cats need is a little more time to acclimate to each other. I have very rarely seen a situation where two cats could not finally find a middle ground and at least tolerate each other. Hope your cats are doing great! *Caroline
I’ve watched several videos on introducing another cat with the existing cat and I loved yours the most! The steps taken weren’t to hard and I loved your encouragement at the end when you said, that you have never had a failure of bringing new cats into the your home. Thank you 😻
I was so worried my cats were not going to get along because i heard my first cat hiss a few times and I thought that ment it was not going to work out. But my cat is just behaving the way you explained so I will continue to strive for progress with my kitties.
Camilla Bichweiler much better! Definitely took a while but they know each other’s personality now. I also made sure to treat them equally cause I can tell the older one got jealous if I was to only pet the newer cat. But they sleep close to each other now, share the water bowl and liter, i even caught them grooming each other a few times.
omg I'm so happy for u! I have two cats also, the older one is 6 years old and the new is 7 months. the thing is, the younger arrived first at home and she's here for 2 months now and the older is here for 1 month. they sometimes play together, but mostly of the time they just tolerate each other or even fight. should I have hope?
@@d.c.taylor-sullivan3026 its been almost 2 months my kitten has grown half my old cat size im afraid its gonna fight back i guess cats chooses their friends too
Mine just growled at me when I dared let the kitten in my room after she had already kicked her out... Now the kitten is back down stairs and Sansa is ignoring me.
@@achritushunter6950 my cats have been together for 5 months now and the older still hisses at the young one. Not as often as she used to but she is still resisting friendly approach. He is probably as big as her now and yes, he does attack her back sometimes but fortunately never is real aggression, I mean the one meant to hurt. I have identified it as territorial spats, lots of swatting and hissing but no real damage. They have period of calm, everything seem to be ok between them and then all the sudden they are at it. I really hope this will go away one day. The older seems less defensive now but it has been very slow progress.
I can’t tell if my older cat is playing too rough or biting the kitten hard on purpose. I’m thinking I might need to keep them separate until my kitten gets bigger
Hi Katie! It's common for bigger cats to play rough with new kittens. I would allow them to play while you are watching. If the kitten keeps trying to get away, or cries out/hisses and seems genuinely scared I would separate them. Like kids sometimes playtime can get out of hand and everyone will need a "time out". When the kitten gets bigger things should be on a more even playing field!
Hi Katie, did it work out? I have the same problem, it’s like the older cat can’t control his excitement and after some licking and gentle play he suddenly chases the kitten down and she gets scared, hisses and growls. When it happens I separate them but it happens again and again when I try to socialize them. Heelp😿
Thanks for your tips. We’ve successfully introduced two cats previously - a sweet and docile senior boy and a curious but shy girl kitten. It was so easy and quick. While never becoming best friends, they enjoyed each other’s presence and would sit near each other on the couch or explore happenings in the home together. We lost our 20 year old boy this past Thanksgiving. We are now working towards introducing our new 10 month old boy to our existing (now 6 year old) girl cat. She’s grown even more anxious, timid and shy as she ages but we can tell she’s lonely being the sole cat of house currently. Our new boy is very sweet and playful so we’re hopeful that some of that energy wears off on her. We’re going to start the introduction process in the next week or so and videos like these are incredibly helpful in knowing what are good signs vs bad (especially in regards to the hissing - our girl loves to make her feelings known by hissing when she’s upset). Thanks again and please send us any good luck you’ve got!
Pinay Papi exactly!! My cat isn’t angry at my new kitten anymore, just angry at my family and it sucks so much omg i started crying because my cat was so anfry
5:35 I love the shirt. Odd here with my situation. Our older cat loves our dog and the two rescue cats love the dog but none of the cats like each other yet. My poor dog just wants her little fur balls to get along
Thank you soo much. I was been worrying about my cat, she is not interested in the new kitten. She is behaving so weird for a week. Now I got the hope that these two can be friends.
Caroline. So many cute kitties in this video and enough time to watch them all especially handsome Sing Sing. Great tips. Thanks Caroline for what you do. You're awesome :-)
My Mr Grey lost his older friend, he miowed for days. Finally I got him a kitten, let him smell the cage first.then introduced them . He picked up the kitten by the scruff of the neck carried it to the living room and washed it. Friends and playmates ever since.
Right now we have 5 happy cats in the house. It's more than we planned on, but things happen. :-) Perhaps we have incredible luck or have always, somehow, had mellow cats find their way to us. In 40 years of cat ownership we've never had a problem introducing a new cat to the residents, whether it be a kitten or an adult. We turn the new cat loose and let them get acquainted. Of course, all cat activity is supervised until we're sure the coast is clear. It's always been a matter of hours, not days. Last November we took in a stray that had been hanging around the house all summer. I was amazed at how quickly the cats acclimated; no hostility at all. For those of you not as fortunate, this video should be invaluable. As stated, never give up. Patience, scent, communal feeding, plenty of attention to the residents, and supervision are keys to success!
that’s probably because your cats are used to sharing their space and having company which makes life so much easier 😫 i have a cat thats been alone all his life and now we’re trying to introduce a kitten its so tough
"New kittens need socialization and can't be left alone for long periods of time" "Give your existing cat full access to the entire house and lock up kitten" 😂
Thank you for your positivity! Your video is so encouraging! I have been very worried about introducing my 13 year-old Chloe to a new cat we adopted. Your video has given me the confidence to persist with calm and patience. Thank you!
I have a 1 yr old neutered male cat. We just found a 6 week old (?) female in our garage. The garage has always been his domain, but the new kitty was apparently using his litter box and eating his food and had been around a while before we knew it. The first night we caught her I put in her in a carrier and left her in the garage for the night. My boy cried all night and hissed at her a few times. I took her to the vet and got her cleaned up and now she’s sleeping in the spare bathroom. My boy seems very curious, sniffing the door and waiting outside the door, even trying to nose his way in the moment it’s cracked. I’ve taken her out and placed her in her carrier and left her in the laundry room while I clean her bathroom and her litter box. My boy goes in and sniffs her blankets and even used her litter box. It’s been 2 days and he seems so curious about meeting her. Is it too soon? He has free range of the house but I have kept her in her bathroom so far. She doesn’t seem to be bothered by him- actually seems to want him around. Prob scared and lonely. He’s a sweet boy but idk if he’s really excited to meet her or ready to kick out the invader Sorry for the book 🤣
Thank you very much for your very helpful video. We have a new kitten Nala (3.5 month), since Sunday, 31st July 2022, and our resident cat, Hexi (3 years), is not very happy. As we never had to introduce a new cat, we were very insecure. Your video helped us a lot to regain confidence and to give our two ladies the time they need.
This video made me feel a little better! I got a kitten yesterday and my existing cat (1 year) doesn’t seem too happy. She does the following, but the kitten starts the hissing. It stresses me out bc my first cat is my baby girl. I’m hoping they learn to get along!
The introduction of the new kitten was as much of a surprise to me as it was to my cats. She literally just showed up in my house. Had to have snuck in at some point. I say that to say this, we are definitely off to a rocky start. This video gives me hope. Thank you!
Thank you so much, you are so beautiful for sharing this video! I wish I knew about the rubbing the blanket to get used to one another. I have them separated currently and have them relaxing. They unfortunately got into a fight before I could get my kitten away. I won’t give up and I really love this video I’ll be watching again your voice is so calming!
We got a kitten 3 days back, the kitten is 2 months old and the cat we already had is 4 months old. The older cat keeps chasing the younger one al the time. He attacks her, pushes her in a corner, grows and hisses all the time. The little one just wanna play but it's scared for him now. We have the little one in a room with a big glass door, the door is a little open so they can sniff. We let them in the same room for a few minutes so they can get used to each other. Today we feel really sad for both of them, it's nice to know we are not the only one with these issues. Hope we find a way to get them both happy.
@@mylesnmore oh no! I did buy some feliway classic plug in and I think that has really helped. I bought the spray bottle too to spray around the door of where the kitten is. And I think that's really helped, maybe give that a go?
Marie L YES! Thank God. It took a month, but my cat is “more cool” with them now, not perfect but he has admitted the truth and has calmed a lot. I kept them in a separate room for week 1 and my Cat never saw them but he knew they were in there. He hissed at the door and isolated himself and didn’t eat much - totally stressed out. On Week 2 I would bring the kittens out for a little bit so my cat could see them everyday (not a long time), he basically hated them. Around week 3 I would swap rooms for a little while, put big cat in kittens room, put kittens in outside area where cat dwells, and then let them be in same room periodically for more time; my cat started to ease up. Week 4 I just opened the rooms up for them both to travel around, and my cat has conformed more, only very few times my cat would hiss but the kittens don’t care about him they just play and explore the house. They sorta respect him and then disrespect him and so I think my cat has surrendered. Basically, take it slow, follow your gut. I’m thankful for the advice in the video, I didn’t do everything but I did take it slow and it was needed for my Cat to admit the truth of the new development and share his territory. Onwards.
This is so helpful. We are getting a new kitten in the next couple weeks as long as she is negative for FIV (Her momma has it so the kittens have to be tested). We have a black cat named Kimba we've had since kittenhood (She's 13 years old now) and I'm expecting a lot of the hissing and growling that you mentioned. I'm hoping this kitten can provide her with some companionship in her older years that she never necessarily received from other cats before. She had a brother (Himalayan) for only about six months until he developed urinary tract infections and was blocked several times. We were in college and had little to no money to help the little guy out so after 3500 dollars we had to put him down, so Kimba didn't have much of a chance to hang out with her brother. I'm hoping she will find comfort in another kitty sibling.
HELP ME PLEASE😩😢 I have a soon to be 2 year old female tortoiseshell named Penny, she’s the best!! Found her in the desert her in AZ when she was approximately 4 months old (veterinarian guess) 3 weeks ago we found 2 little girls 😮same scenario as Penny😢.. theses girls are about 10 weeks old (veterinarian guess) … here’s the issue …Penny wants NOTHING to do with the girls! she hides in the corner in the closet… Won’t eat and won’t drink… i’ve done everything that you’re supposed to do but nothing seems to be working… The growling is so sad to me because she’s doing it to me 😢 I noticed this morning that she is throwing up a little bit, but there’s really nothing to throw up… and I also noticed a little bit of blood in her stool now😮 So of course I googled it and it states that it’s mostly stress related 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ A part of me feels that I should rehome these kittens☹️😔I don’t know what to do!! I just want Penny to go back to the way she was💔 just thought she could use some friends because she is so loving and full of energy!! Also… I forgot to mention, Charlie💚 Charlie is my 12 years old and he can honestly careless about the girls.. they do not bother him at all thankfully🙏🏼 Because I think about rehoming the girls does that make me awful 🥴??? I am also completely stressed out… I have not stopped crying in the last 48 hours😭😭 I need advice ASAP
It's been 6 weeks and my senior cats still hate my new kitten. To be fair, I don't blame them. She is constantly launching herself at them to get them to play. I've done everything--the isolation of the kitten, the scent swapping, the meet and greet with the kitten in a crate, I've put the kitten on a leash, I've bought the pheromone stuff--nothing seems to be working. I am at a loss.
Thank you so much for ur videos especially new kitty introductions😍. I have placed new kitty, Chloe Elizabeth 4-5 weeks in her own large pet cage w/ litter, sleeping basket and fluffy blanket, fresh water. My existing kitty, Miss FinleyRae is 5yrs and is hesitant but willing. I encourage her to floored and sniff the cage. So far, introductions are going well.
Oh wow I am SOOO glad I happened upon your video!! I’m only on day 2 of introducing my 18 month old cat to a new kitten and I thought all was lost. My cat is not responding well at all. When he first saw the kitten he was very vocal with his opinion. And it wasn’t in a good way. I thought I was being a bad mother by putting the kitty in the garage for a while but I think I’m going to have to give it a go when my cat comes in so he can see the house is still “his”. I think I’ve been too unreal with my expectations and should slow down the pace they interact for now. I honestly thought I would have to take the new kitty back so I thank you for giving me hope! Any other advice would be appreciated. Lynda
@@sbkmarkel the cat owns the house and she is now the "older cat" hahah. But for real how did it turn out? Im on my second day of introducing, it started really well they were playing my older cat was going a little too hard, and only hissed twice, once when the kitten was sleeping next to him, but he proceeded to just continue sleeping and the second time when my older cat saw the kitten sleeping on my wives lap. We proceeded to move her and the older cat claimed his "throne" haha. Now he is a little offended with me cuz i yelled at him when he was being too rough on the kitten, this gets e reeeeally anxious but this video really help. Cheers
We got our new kitten twenty months ago. I can only say it's been hell and I've shed copious tears. Our older cat has sprayed every surface in the house, he's bitten us and he's absolutely hated his new sister, attacking her whenever he could. We've been told he's a despot male and that we should never have got him a sister. They've been stressed, we've been stressed. But over the past three weeks she's been finally starting to win him over. Not friends yet, and she's still very scared, but there's definite progress at last.
The situation is better now, and she's got the upper paw now that she's bigger than him. She gives him a little swipe if he gets too close. Also, he's only three legged, so he's very much at a disadvantage. She likes to smell him all over while he eats. But they're not friends, he still bullies her.
I have resident cat Westside and two new kittens. After we introduced them things were ok, but Westside was not cool with the kittens using his litter boxes. I have 4 litter boxes. Turns out the two kittens are sick with Giardia and also ringworm. The kittens are now secluded to one of the bedrooms while they get better and we will just need to start from scratch. Thankfully Westside didn’t catch either Giardia or ringworm. Trying not to stress. Focusing on getting the kittens 100 percent healthy, still giving lots of love and attention to Westside. This is really challenging. Thanks for the video. ❤
Thank you for sharing 😊 My original cat isn't happy with my new kitten to the point where he stopped eating 😓 After a trip to the vet with both kitties, h got better, Thank God 🙏 Resident cat has some infection & kitten has an ear infection 😮 I hope both cats will become friends soon.. It's stressful seeing changes in my original cat (tuxedo) while kitten (ginger tabby) wants to play with him 💗 Plus trying to take care of my human family too 🥰 God Bless all families including our furry ones 👼😻
Thank you for the tips! I have been doing this for years. My current cats are 13 and 10 years old and the introduction went pretty good. Within three days they were touching noses and getting along great! I own a condo and can’t have anymore. I am hoping to buy a house in the future and give a good loving home to other fur babies.
Hi Barbara, Thanks for the comment, so glad you liked the video! Hope you can get a house one of these days so you have as many cats as you want. xoxox **Caroline
Really enjoy how you presented this information. I am introducing my 4 yrs old cat to her new kitten Sissy. It's going well. But needed this video. Thank you very very much
this made me feel better, i had expected them to take straight away because my cat (1 yr) has been around many dogs, has a dog best friend and has interacted with a few cats. I was quite shocked with his chirping and swatting. I've just separated them again, the kitten is in the bathroom with his food/water and bed and my cat has quietened down down. Time. Time to give it time.
Don't lose hope - it just takes time! They will work things out, I promise. Just keep following the tips. Cats are tricky sometimes, they do things on their own timeline and terms! But I have a houseful of cats who (more or less) get along very well. You can too!
Very helpful I’m going through the process now.. the eldest boy is being stubborn and won’t come indoors, runs away when he see the new baby girl kitten ❤
I just got a new kitten and my mom was not so happy, cuz we have a cat and she’s older, but my mom thinks she’s gonna get jealous, I truly want both cats to be like sister, that’s why i got her so my cat won’t be lonely and can have fun together
Hi everyone! My resident cat is chasing my new kitten. Kitten would hiss and run. A lot growling and slapping while the two meet face to face. I did all the steps mentioned in here for twice and still no hope. I’m this close to giving away the kitten. The kittens has been here for more than 2 months now
This video reassured me I am doing the right thing my older cat has hissed at the kitten when he gets to close. Time is the best thing for them. I have bonded my older cat when she was an older kitten with then 14 year old cat. They became best friends but now she is lonely which is why we got the kitten. Hoping the have a great bond!
I'm so glad I found this video. I'm just not happy I found it on day 4 haha. I haven't yelled at my cat for hissing or swatting but I have sternly said "hey, be nice" and then gently took him away to security and praised him for being a good boy who's scared. They are getting along better but my big guy still is stress puking because of the new kitty and I'm like "ugh, at least he isn't peeing everywhere"
Watching videos because my husband and I just got a new rescue kitten (7 month old male). Our first kitten we got when he was super young. He lived a very safe and sheltered life and had always been super loving. He’s 6 months old now. We wanted to get one more cat around the same age so that they can have each other always. Our new cat is in rough condition and was not taken care of properly by whoever had him before us. He’s currently scared and shy but still always us to touch him/hold him/bathe him. Our first cat, Salem, is NOT liking our new cat, Aspen. It’s been very stressful because Aspen doesn’t hiss at Salem but Salem gets REAL angry just simply smelling his scent on a t-shirt, let alone seeing him.
i like your methods better than others I've heard. Good tips. I wish my Catarina could have a companion, but she's 18-20 and I can't have two cats(apartment rules and can't afford 2).
We just got a new kitten because our other cat ran away and he was missing for over a month. A day later, our cat got found by a neighbour and now we’re trying to get them to like each other lol. Thanks for the tips
Hi! This video was very helpful. Our 12 year old female cat has always been moody and miserable and trusts no one but my husband and I. She has always snuggled with us and slept with us every night. Unfortunately she only "tolerates" our 10 & 7 year old children. They have never gotten to hold her and can barely get a pet in before she tries to bite and hit them. So we made the decision to adopt a new female kitten to allow the children to experience a kind cat and enjoy their pet! We've been very careful with introducing the kitten to our older cat. The kitten is only 12 weeks old and very sweet and easy going. The older cat has spent the last 2 weeks growling and hissing at the kitten when they are together (supervised) for an hour or two a day. We keep the kitten in our master bedroom during the day and in the master bathroom overnight. She sleeps quietly in her bed all night- she is an angel! We had hoped the older cat would continue to sleep with us, but when she jumps in our bed she smells the kitten and hisses and runs out of the room. She is very angry with us and letting us know all the time. She is only nice when she wants her meals in the morning and evening. She is very smart, very manipulative and very CRANKY. We love her so much despite her attitude, and just want to help her realize this kitten will be a great companion for her and she will be able to remain the dominant cat of the house so there is nothing to fear. I think she's scared and annoyed. I've tried giving her the towel that we rubbed all over the kitten. I have purchased the plug in "FeelAway" stuff that is supposed to release pheromones to relax her. And I have even tried calming cat treats. She's 22lbs and quite a beast, can be aggressive. Nothing is working. It's only been 2 weeks... so I know its still early and won't give up trying to help with the adjustment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! jackie.orlando@hotmail.com
how is it now? I think you shouldn't have made the kitten stay in your bedroom, preferably the kitten should have been shut in one of your children's bedrooms since you got the kitten for them anyway. your bedroom is t he older cat's primary territory, unlike your children's bedrooms. hopefully they're starting to get along by now. if they aren't, you should wash all your bedding and furniture in your room, try to get dominant kitty to feel safe in your bedroom again, then let the kitten stay in your children's room(s) during the day and night. then start the process from step 1 once older kitty is comfortable in your room again.
I've been trying to introduce my cats for a month now to my existing cats but we have a dominant male and he growls at my new kitty and is starting to get aggressive toward my female cat. Putting him on a feeding schedule has made him more antsy and energetic. I don't know what to do.
I gotta ask is he neutured? I'm having the same issue right now but the kitten (6-7 months old) is not neutered so he's dominant over my shy female one
My older cat does this to my one year old cat as we are introducing the new kitten. I just slow things down by keeping kitty in base camp, baby gate, and feeding all the gates on their side of the gate. Then I give my older cat treats and attention all the time in front of the door of kitty base camp. I'm at 5 wks, so don't feel bad, but what i'm doing is working. My older gett is growling and hissing lots less. And my 1 year old cat and kitty still get individual play sessions so their relationship can keep growing. Just don't worry if it takes a few mths. My older cat (8yrs) just really, really needs time! Good luck, I just noticed your comment was 5 mths, I hope it's going well!
@@musichi7 Yeah sure thing. I kept at it and just kept feeding them together. I restarted their distancing, so I fed them pretty far apart and got them closer together even slower than I did before. This seemed to work for a while but It became clear eventually that they were just destined to not get along. I noticed my dominant cat would generally put on a show by hissing and such, but he never growled or had any body language other than defensive-aggressiveness. My new cat is very, very tolerant and well mannered, so be never reacted to the aggression. I started letting my new cat out during the day and then putting them in his safe room at night. That way I could supervise their interactions and be aware if anything happened between them. After a while, I stopped putting him in my room at night because they didn't have any violent interactions. The two cats still don't really get along but they tolerate eachother a lot better. My dominant cat was poorly socialized since he was an orphaned kitten, so I don't think he'll ever be friendly with my newest cat. Nowadays, I try to minimize negative interactions. I paid attention to exactly when my dominant cat would hiss and I tried to remedy the areas. For instance, my dominant cat would hiss at my new cat while looking outside an open window, so I now keep two windows open so they don't have to compete. Overall, they can coexist just fine. They're not friends, but it's pretty peaceful.
My cat gets PISSED at me and it was hissing at me so I tossed a sandal at him. And I feel like he has pent up aggression. The other kitten left but she’s so cute. Maybe I should give it time.
Our sweet Miss Puss was rescued and brought in to our home 7 yrs ago. Her brother Sam, the existing cat, played too rough with her and bit her leg. We didn't see it happen. But I took jer to the vet once we discovered it. She never got fully comfortable with him. We lost him recently and are trying to adopt a new kitty, 6 month old female. Energetic. Just wants to play. Miss isn't having it. We are scared she is traumatized by her experience with Sam and may think all cats will get her. Is there hope??
Thanks for the video ❤️ I have a very dominant male Cat. He gets angry when he see another cat and I'm planning to get him company. I wish those advices will work with him ❤️
g bridgman yes. That is true. I have 4 cats, 3 males, 1 female. Things got violent due to external problems with 2 of them(Baltazar and Dante), but my little Ada, makes a situation go from 0 o 10 on violence scale. She is very tyrannical sometimes. 😆
@@biankapaloma Our little girl is now 13 years old. I'm thinking maybe she's too old to put up a fuss about a new cat. But she's always been pretty good about accepting "strangers." The male cats adapt right way.
Thank you so much! Your video was so simple and easy to go by and I liked how you said that it’s okay for the cats to hiss, growl and slap one another since it’s my first time, I didn’t know what was normal behavior in introduction.
This video helped so much at first it was very stressful and difficult but now my cats love each other they will sleep and play together and my older cat loves to bathe my younger cat they will eventually get there so hang in there and be patient
You should reintroduce them. It's not good or normal for cats to actually fight. Having a small swatting match or some hissing to re-establish social heiarchy might be normal in cats that aren't super close, but fighting is not cool. It's stressful and could escalate to cats actually hurting each other. If reintroducing doesn't work, you should probably rehome one of the kitties unless you are willing to split your house and keep them away from each other for 15-20 years.
I’m picking up a new kitten tomorrow and I am nervous to introduce him to my grown unsocialised male cat. I already know he will be hostile. I live in a tiny studio apartment but thankfully can create a separate space for kitty in the kitchen. I’m nervous tho… I really hope this can work out.
Day 1 Kitten is being kept in the bathroom but at one point walked out when not supposed to and cat caught a dead on glimpse. Not happy. He has hissed at the smell of kitten on my hands. My apartment is too small to keep them 100% separated cuz baby meows a lot. I’m hoping cat can come around sooner rather than later.
Day 2 today I’ve started sitting outside my apartment with the kitten for some fresh air but leaving the door open for cat to watch. He sits close by just watching, quite calmly unless kitty gets too close then he will hiss. But I made a mistake, cat went forward to sniff the kitten closely and I flinched scaring him away. Sheesh I know it’s important for me to stay calm. I’ll work on that. Looks promising so far.
Day 3 today has been PROGRESSIVE! I let kitten roam the house a bit because my cats aggression seemed to be subsiding. My cat followed kitten around for an hour and even touched noses without hissing. I put baby away while I went to work and when I got back I let him roam again, and they actually played a little 😱 this is amazing progress, happened so much faster than expected. Please note, my cat is 3 yrs old, unsocialised and unneutered (don’t judge, he’s a house cat and I have a good reason) The internet pretty much told me it would be impossible. Only 3 days it took…
Day 4 At lunchtime today they started playing a little bit and baby was running over the house like crazy. But come the evening, baby stopped running, got really lethargic and stayed that way. Since he’s only 5 weeks old I was worried he wouldn’t be alive in the morning 😢
Day 5 woke up to baby still very lethargic and warm. So I took him to the vet first thing, confirmed he has a fever and the dr tested him for parvo which came back negative. He’s on antibiotics and already getting more energetic. Cat keeps trying to play with baby but is a little bit rough, which is scary since baby is so small and sick. Even Thi he is friendly I won’t leave them together unsupervised yet.
While cats are solitary animals by nature, ours have always seemed to enjoy companionship, as stated in the video. Multiple cats should never be a social problem. It's just a lot of work and expense taking care of them! :-)
@@1940limited Hi G, yeah, for years I never had a problem with multiple cats. Then I sort of had a problem when I brought in Betty, the Super Alpha from my Feral Cat Feeding Station. Betty was sort of special, with a foot in both Worlds. I first saw her as a kitten eating out of a dish in front of a door. So, she was a little bit Hand Socialized at the right age for it. but when her People moved and left her behind, she came charging into the Feeding Station and took over. She looked like she had Brit Short Hair Blood and those things are built like bull terriers. But some kids got BB guns for Christmas and turned the Territory into Fields of Death. So I brought Betty inside. I loved her, but she did corner out all the other cat's Them To Me Quality times. After just a few years, Betty was still young, she dropped over dead.... I guess it was a BB or a Pellet she had been shot with that finally cut into something important. Then, wow, to see how the other cats re-positioned. Yeah, whenever somebody dies in a Multicat Household, it is like Musical Chairs. You know, it might break your heart when some favorite Snuggle Bug dies, but then, you'll be surprised when another cat just steps into that role. "My Turn". But every once in a while there can be Real Problems and drama. Like Caroline says, we're always able to ride it out.
I’ve come here because I brought my kitten home a few hours ago and my 2 year old cat is hissing, growling and even attacking me. She won’t even let me pet her or give treats. I feel like I’ve fcked up, I’m worried the relationship with will never be the same. I feel so sad
I don’t know what to do I’m actually crying. My older cat has attacked my new cat twice and doesn’t seem to get any better. I’ve tried to separate them but my older cat grows more hate for my new kitty. Help
@lucielle they still don’t get along :/ it’s always step one over and over. My older cat doesn’t seem to change. I’m thinking of giving away my youngest considering that my older cat is getting more and more depressed as days go by
@@milesornelas6993 oh no! do you have separate rooms to use for each cat? my cat doesn’t like my kitten that we’ve had for a month already but we separate them and occasionally put them together each day. we think once my new kitten is older it should be easier because she can defend herself if needed. I hope you don’t have to give away your younger kitten!
I got my kitten a week ago and have been trying to follow the steps but I think I screwed up today by introducing them too soon, my big cat had a hissy fit, kitten hid under chair, big cat charged up to chair and gave the yowl of death before she raced back upstairs to her territory. I feel like I've blown it and have to start all over from the beginning :(
I really wished I had seen this video three years ago when introducing my younger cat to my older one. But I learned a great deal. I'm about to get a little kitten and I feel better that I will do it right this time around. Thanks for this vide. My two current cats don't hate eachother, they tolerate one another and just stay out of eachother's way. So that's the best I can hope for after three years. LOL
This helps me a lot! I have 2 existing cats (we got them together so they've always loved each other) and we recently got a new kitten. One existing cat doesn't care, but the other is being really nasty towards the kitten. We tried feeding on opposite sides of a door, but once my existing cat smells the kitten, she won't eat and will hiss and run away. We already introduced them as these existing cats have gotten along with other cats on play dates in the past, so we were surprised when they didn't like the kitten at all! I'm spending all my free time on giving all 3 cats extra love and attention (and treats!) as much as I possibly can! Thank you for this video, I'll try these techniques!! 💙💙
Lol I wish it were this easy, two males that have both been through a lot, and are highly territorial, are a lot harder to do this with! But I won't give up🙏🏼❤ love them both wayyy too much!❤❤
Thanks for the tips! I tried to keep my new cat separated from my old but he's snuck out a few times and gotten hissed at. I feel like since she's seen him too many times before she properly got used to his scent, she's not going to adjust well.... I'm really worried about them getting along
Hi Kelci, I think some occasional hissing is ok. There will probably have to be some hissing and even a swat or too before the cats really get to know each other. Unless there is serious fighting go on, or one cat is attacking the other (beyond a swat or hiss), I would let them interact more when you are there to supervise. If you keep them separated for too long then they won't get the chance to meet, work out their social hierarchy order, and learn to live together. It isn't easy at first but I think it can work out if you're patient and allow the cats to adjust on their own terms. Good luck!
Kitten School Hello, I just bought a new kitten today and before given any chance to meet via scent or sounds, my two cats met this kitten face to face. One of my cats doesn’t seem bothered at all competitively, but one of them because very hissy and has been acting strange. Any tips on how to mend the relationship since it started out so badly?

@@sbkmarkel one of my cats will play with her and kinda moms her. The other is still not happy, but will deal with it. We try to keep them separated as much as we can, but due to work sometimes they have to be in the same room for a couple of hours. No fights though thankfully. We make sure we give our grumpy cat lots of love and attention and positive association and she's always happy at the end of the day.
I thought I'd do another update:
Both cats are comfortable around her!
This video made me feel so much better! I was worried about my older cat hissing at the door!

Violet weighed just 0.3 pounds
was so weak she couldn't lift her head, let alone stand up.
I need advice with this I brought a new kitten home it’s been 2 days I just need help

Now they absolutely adore each other and quite frankly even ignore us😀
Thank for the tips because my old male cat hates our new baby male cats, i hope they will close soon😭

*Caroline

That's exactly whats happening with my cats, no curved tail no ears down but my cat seems to go really rough on my kitten thus he cries a bit.
Sergio Lujan what’s the age difference

Thank you for your positivity! Your video is so encouraging! I have been very worried about introducing my 13 year-old Chloe to a new cat we adopted. Your video has given me the confidence to persist with calm and patience. Thank you!
Should have watched this last week. Thanks for the tips. Gonna keep trying.
Thank you so much 🙏🏻
We follow some of your tips ,
After half day we slowly saw some result.
After 2 days ,
Cats were palying with each other 😃😇🐈
I have a 1 yr old neutered male cat. He’s a sweet boy but idk if he’s really excited to meet her or ready to kick out the invader
Sorry for the book 🤣
Thank you for the reassurance! 😂 turns out I’ve been doing this all correctly already! I’m so glad
Hi AstroCatts, hope things are going good with your cat family. Thanks for the comment!
@@KittenSchool They have started playing! Just waiting for the cuddles
Oh man, my cat right now isn’t liking my new kittens. He isn’t taking it well. I hope this video is right.
me too! its been a week for me and my cat hates me for bringing home a kitten!
sophie maskell SAME. He hisses at me now.
@@mylesnmore oh no! I did buy some feliway classic plug in and I think that has really helped. I bought the spray bottle too to spray around the door of where the kitten is. And I think that's really helped, maybe give that a go?
Can I ask you if it is better now?
Onwards.
I once got a kitten and my Mom was so worried about our current cat not liking her, we had to give her up. I still love you Venice!! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
HELP ME PLEASE😩😢
I have a soon to be 2 year old female tortoiseshell named Penny, she’s the best!!
Found her in the desert her in AZ when she was approximately 4 months old (veterinarian guess)
3 weeks ago we found 2 little girls 😮same scenario as Penny😢.. theses girls are about 10 weeks old (veterinarian guess) … here’s the issue …Penny wants NOTHING to do with the girls! she hides in the corner in the closet… Won’t eat and won’t drink… i’ve done everything that you’re supposed to do but nothing seems to be working… The growling is so sad to me because she’s doing it to me 😢
I noticed this morning that she is throwing up a little bit, but there’s really nothing to throw up… and I also noticed a little bit of blood in her stool now😮
So of course I googled it and it states that it’s mostly stress related 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
A part of me feels that I should rehome these kittens☹️😔I don’t know what to do!!
I just want Penny to go back to the way she was💔 just thought she could use some friends because she is so loving and full of energy!!
Also… I forgot to mention, Charlie💚 Charlie is my 12 years old and he can honestly careless about the girls.. they do not bother him at all thankfully🙏🏼
Because I think about rehoming the girls does that make me awful 🥴???
I am also completely stressed out… I have not stopped crying in the last 48 hours😭😭
I need advice ASAP
It's been 6 weeks and my senior cats still hate my new kitten. To be fair, I don't blame them. She is constantly launching herself at them to get them to play. I've done everything--the isolation of the kitten, the scent swapping, the meet and greet with the kitten in a crate, I've put the kitten on a leash, I've bought the pheromone stuff--nothing seems to be working. I am at a loss.
I'm currently having the same issue as well 😢
Cats are territorial creature. It Will take time.
how did it go??
Thank you so much for ur videos especially new kitty introductions😍. I have placed new kitty, Chloe Elizabeth 4-5 weeks in her own large pet cage w/ litter, sleeping basket and fluffy blanket, fresh water. My existing kitty, Miss FinleyRae is 5yrs and is hesitant but willing. I encourage her to floored and sniff the cage. So far, introductions are going well.
Thank you so much for doing videos such as these. Your cat introduction videos really help. Like you said patience is so important.
Hi Stacy! Thanks for the comment, so glad you liked the video! **Caroline
That black cat is absolutely beautiful, my gosh 😍❤
I came here all stressed out, first night with a new kitty and my two cats are like WTH!?
We did everything we shouldn’t. Tonight the older cat went after the kitten’s neck.
Lynda
Hi Lynda! I'm curious if it worked out in the end?
Any update?

I got a new cat and this has been a blessing my new cat wants to play and be out but my older cat isn’t very happy at all
We got our new kitten twenty months ago. Not friends yet, and she's still very scared, but there's definite progress at last.
is everything fine now? can u tell us the updates of your cats

It's going well. But needed this video.
Thank you very very much
This was super helpful & reassuring! We were starting to get worried but this helped so much! Thank you!
this made me feel better, i had expected them to take straight away because my cat (1 yr) has been around many dogs, has a dog best friend and has interacted with a few cats. I was quite shocked with his chirping and swatting. I've just separated them again, the kitten is in the bathroom with his food/water and bed and my cat has quietened down down. Time. Time to give it time.
Aww thank you so much for this video, I was becoming so worried and emotional. This has given me hope☺️xx
Don't lose hope - it just takes time! They will work things out, I promise. Just keep following the tips. Cats are tricky sometimes, they do things on their own timeline and terms! But I have a houseful of cats who (more or less) get along very well. You can too!

Hi everyone! My resident cat is chasing my new kitten. Kitten would hiss and run. A lot growling and slapping while the two meet face to face. I did all the steps mentioned in here for twice and still no hope. I’m this close to giving away the kitten. The kittens has been here for more than 2 months now
I’m having the same problem. Does anyone have any advice?
This video reassured me I am doing the right thing my older cat has hissed at the kitten when he gets to close. Time is the best thing for them. I have bonded my older cat when she was an older kitten with then 14 year old cat. They became best friends but now she is lonely which is why we got the kitten. Hoping the have a great bond!
I'm so glad I found this video. I'm just not happy I found it on day 4 haha. I haven't yelled at my cat for hissing or swatting but I have sternly said "hey, be nice" and then gently took him away to security and praised him for being a good boy who's scared. They are getting along better but my big guy still is stress puking because of the new kitty and I'm like "ugh, at least he isn't peeing everywhere"
r they besties now?
Thank you! There's a lot of opinions out there on this topic but these are what have worked for me!
We just got a new kitten because our other cat ran away and he was missing for over a month. A day later, our cat got found by a neighbour and now we’re trying to get them to like each other lol. Thanks for the tips
He was like damn that was so fast 😂
Thank you for this video! This really helped me with my anxiety that my existing kitty was never going to accept the new kitten. I loved this video.
I have the same issue right now. Can you share me the updates of your cats now??
@@khalil7011 My male kitten is getting fixed today, hope that helps !? I am going insane with these two
My cat gets PISSED at me and it was hissing at me so I tossed a sandal at him. And I feel like he has pent up aggression. The other kitten left but she’s so cute. Maybe I should give it time.
No throwing sandals at your cat! Try being patient and gentle, and allow your cat plenty of alone time to process the new kitten. It does take time!

Thanks for the video ❤️

Alec Mell take all the time in the world to do the proper presentations. Believe me, totally worth It. Think in cat time, not human time.
Hi Alec, Read my Comment, about what NOT to do.
g bridgman yes.
@@biankapaloma Oh i will thanks 🙏
Thank you so much! Your video was so simple and easy to go by and I liked how you said that it’s okay for the cats to hiss, growl and slap one another since it’s my first time, I didn’t know what was normal behavior in introduction.
Thank you for this video...i was so worried my older kitty was never going to start liking my new kitten 😸
Do they get along now?
This video helped so much at first it was very stressful and difficult but now my cats love each other they will sleep and play together and my older cat loves to bathe my younger cat they will eventually get there so hang in there and be patient
it’s been three years n my cats still swat each other n very occasionally get into a growling match n actually start fighting
Please note, my cat is 3 yrs old, unsocialised and unneutered (don’t judge, he’s a house cat and I have a good reason)
The internet pretty much told me it would be impossible.
Again great advice from you! I always wonder, how these methods work with multiple cats at once in a single home.
While cats are solitary animals by nature, ours have always seemed to enjoy companionship, as stated in the video. Multiple cats should never be a social problem. It's just a lot of work and expense taking care of them! :-)
Hi Fatima, I live in a multi-cat house. Read the comment I left... it is a regular War Story.

I'm about to get a little kitten and I feel better that I will do it right this time around. Thanks for this vide. My two current cats don't hate eachother, they tolerate one another and just stay out of eachother's way. So that's the best I can hope for after three years. LOL
You are so welcome! Good luck with your new kitten, and remember take the steps slow. It sometimes takes time, but they will adapt!
Well… I was never a cat person, I got a cat and then a kitten and here we are… lol I’m a cat lady now! Haha
Calming Collars at Walmart! Hope this helps! Also: Felaway spray and felaway 🔌 ins. Don't spray the felaway spray on the cats. Spray it around them.
Lol I wish it were this easy, two males that have both been through a lot, and are highly territorial, are a lot harder to do this with! But I won't give up🙏🏼❤ love them both wayyy too much!❤❤
I am just going through this at the moment & this video gave me so much reassurance thankyou!
Bradley Melchor what ended up happening?
Did they ever get along?
Thank you so much ..it has given me more reassurance to carry on with my new kitten and my cat💕xx
