I'm glad I found this video and it makes sense.... Winning their trust and not rushing to actual trimming. Patience pays off. I'm going to buy this treat... Gooooey stuff. Then will start .
I'm a first time cat mom, and have been struggling with figuring out how to trim nails, but this really helped break down how to get your cat used to it! Other guides I had seen had mostly shown the end result of a calm cat getting their nails trimmed, so I'm glad I found you with the process. Just did my first session with my kitty, just touching paws, and he seemed to be more comfortable with me touching paws by the end! Excited to see how this goes
I just adopted 2 cats, a momma and her kitten, and I haven't worked up the courage to try nail trims yet. Thank goodness I watched your video before traumatizing my cats! It was great to see it broken down into small steps. Thank you for sharing this. I have to admit the pain of the kitten climbing up my legs is something I won't miss.
@@JenniferCatpurr Thanks. I've adopted pets in pairs before, but I have to admit I felt especially good about keeping this mom with one of her babies. The mom is only 1 yr. old, so they play together a lot. I'm handling their paws a lot, but they're still not comfortable enough for any clipping.
@@JenniferCatpurr Today I clipped 6 of the kitten's nails! I feel a lot more confident and will try to do the rest over the next 2 days. Momma cat doesn't trust me enough yet.
Aww, I love the edutainment lol education/entertainment, encouragement and comments back at me.Say hi to Whiskey, he's adorbs.Take care, love you, thanks again and you're welcome.
It’s been so long! Glad you’ve uploaded again! I remember watching your videos a year a two ago when I got my first cat and thanks to you I’ve trained her to sit on command which makes feeding her so much easier because I can just have her sit down instead of trying to knock the food out of my hand 😂
Big boy behaves SOOO much better than my girls during trimmings, one cries the whole time the other is Bruce Lee with claws no matter how many treats lol, that's just who they are i guess, great to see ya back JCP, thanks for sharing 😁😁
Great video. My cats do not have the curling in grown type nails that need trimming. However they are very small and sharp on some of them. I have two cats that like to claw up furniture even after a lot of focus n training. Do you think trimming claws help reduce their sharpness and damage potential to furniture? Or do you think that it might deter them from scratching if trimmed?
Yes, trimming claws helps mitigate damage to things like furniture. They have scent glands in between their paw pads and will scratch regardless of a claw trim. I'm glad you like the video!
I’ve been learning a LOT about dog training lately and my cat has grown really hateful of the nail clippers. So I figured I might as well mix the two and get her to let me clip her nails
Yeah I’m definitely gonna work on this! She tried to take my eye out last time I tried to clip her back claws 😅 she’s usually pretty tolerant but not with her back paws
I hope you're okay! Try a very light, quick touch next time followed immediately by a treat, or if you think he'll still react negatively to that, start with putting your hand close to his paw without touching it so he feels more comfortable. Also watch his body language - try to do this when he's most relaxed. Purrs!
Hi Jennifer, how about a video on how to get a cat to have less catitude lol cat/attitude that is for them to stop bullying their owner? To become a pawsolutely lol pawsome pursonality lol paw/awesome and pur/personality.Take care and thanks.
Yo Girl its been so long! What have you been up to? Also a lot happened since you were gone My account used to be called Lucy The Talking Dog but Lucy went missing 2 months ago we got 2 puppies bit one got bit by a snake and is going through surgery right now and since shes only 6 months old she has 5% chance she won't make it and if she does make it she can't have puppies
Yeah, it really has been too long but I already have another video planned after this! I'm so sorry to hear about your dogs. I hope your pup in surgery makes it. She won't be missing anything if she can't have puppies - there are so many dogs in the world who need homes as it is. Much love to you all!
@@JenniferCatpurr also my cat keeps door dashing I want him to stop I saw a video on how to make him stop but he still stands by the door and last time he got out he bit my step Mom and she almost lost a FINGURE

That's awesome to hear, Nicole! Congrats on your new kitty. I wish you two nothing but wonderful moments together. ✨️
This video gave me so much CONFIDENCE going into these nail trimming sessions (no trims yet but we're getting there 😀) . Thank you!!!
Wonderful to hear! All the best to you and your mew.

Glad to!
Very glad to see a new upload from you and Whiskey. Hope you two have been doing well.
Hi Viran, we have been. :) I have more videos planned for sooner than later!
JC and Whiskey are back. Yay. Hope to see you at the Best Friends National Conference in Orlando this June.
That would be nice! It's a little far from me now that I moved to Denver.
You are great! THANKS
Aww thank you purrs!
Thank you for posting a great video. How do you trim the nails on the back paws?
It's the same concept as the front, but typically slower. It tends to take cats longer to get used to it.

Such a good boy Whiskee!! What about diet and all the treats?
He really is. ❤️ If weight is an issue, treats can be limited to behavior modification training only.
My cat is not affected by treats or food...what should I do?
Choose something else that is a reward to your cat.
