1. Avoids eye contact/leaves room when you come in. 2. Flicking their tail because they're annoyed by your presence. 3. Excessive scratching. 4. Litter box issues: go outside it to do their business. 5. Hiding frequently. 6. Lack of response to affectionate gestures.
All cats avoid eye contact it makes them uncomfortable to stare at something directly, it is seen as a challenge of sorts or a " you are not wanted here". Always blink and look away when looking at your cat. Cat's prefer the outdoors as their litter box and will only use a litter box if they have no other choice or can't go outside. This does NOT mean your cat doesn't love you, you just need to know cat's and their behaviour properly.
Every behavior listed could indicate issues that the owner can help resolve due to physical illness or misunderstanding on the part of the owner: 1. Avoids eye contact/leaves room when you come in. - Cat has trust issues or is frightened by something the owner is doing? These are both things that can be worked on. 2. Flicking their tail because they're annoyed by your presence. -- Owner may not realize that their own behavior is to blame--not understanding the tail flicking that indicates that the cat is has become overstimulated by petting 3. Excessive scratching. - Not enough scratchers about to discourage scratching of furniture? 4. Litter box issues: go outside it to do their business. - Illness, dirty litterbox, intimidation of other cats in the household? 5. Hiding frequently. -- Cat has trust issues or is frightened by something the owner is doing? These are both things that can be worked on. 6. Lack of response to affectionate gestures. - Owner not understanding how cats express emotions?
@@robynaitken7207not correct! Our cat was my daughters cat for a month but he doesn’t care for my daughter won’t make eye contact with her and leaves the room when she comes in also he attacks her a lot anyway I was the last one in the house to agree to get this cat anyway the cat picked me out of the house he always makes eye contact with me and slow blinks. He chooses to sleep with me every night. He claimed me and turned into my cat. Now hopefully someday my daughter can find a cat that picks her as for now she said she’s a dog person.
@@joyfrazier8260 Blinking and looking away are the same thing! I don't remember if they originate from them letting their guard down or if they're directly showing their trust through it, but the core of both is that they regard you well and know they don't need to keep you in sight to be safe with you :)
Cats are amazing. When I was a kid, my family had a female calico. I grew up in a house with a dad who was violent toward my mom and one day I was crying because the dysfunction affected me a lot. Our cat looked at me and rushed over like she knew I was sad and wanted to comfort me. I will always remember that.
That’s so so sweet and special you are very lucky to have had that kind of companion during those times. My baby girl qweenie cat also comes to me when she sees me holding back my emotions. I keep them in. I do not show it. But she knows it. She comes. Nothing can replace her. No words from a human can replace what she does for me. ❤ they are hidden angels. 👼
We once had an awesome cat that only “attacked” his own old chair in the corner of the den (especially during his evening mad minute). He never scratched any other piece of furniture or drapes. He was a great cat, he adopted me one night while I was making a deposit for my job. I left the car door open while I went to the drop off chute. After I got back in my car to leave I noticed a very young cat sitting up in the middle of the back seat with a look that said “take me home, Jeeves”.
ah yea a neghbor gave me junk chairs for the cat to scratch and she now only scratchers the scratch chair but still gives dirty look like haha human im scratching chair, other cat tho still scraching some other things shouldent.
that’s a great story. i bet he was grateful that he found a nice person like you. thank you. I bet you have some great memories of this cat. 🐈 🙏🏻 🐾 There could be a cat now, in your neighborhood, or in a shelter near you, that would love a comfy home with you. I have three rescues! 🐈⬛🐈🐾
I had a cat that would NEVER use a litterbox, even if alone in the house all day. I don't know why, but it was nice that I never had to clean his litterbox. He would only go outside. He would stand by the door and meow to be let out, and 5-10 min later would meow to come back in. Staying away more than 20 min was very rare.
It’s possible that your cat didn’t like the type of litter being used. Too much perfume or didn’t like the way it felt on their feet. If it’s mother didn’t teach your cat how to use a litter box, the cat may just not have know what the box was for.
I think thats more the cat preferring the texture of grass to the texture of whichever litter you used. That or it somehow became trained to do its business outside, and thus never used the box. I doubt it meant the cat disliked you, because it clearly alerted you when it needed to go and when it was ready to come back inside. Infact seems they acted more dog like than cat like, did the cat perhaps grow up around dogs? If so they might have gotten the habit from observing the dogs.
I have a cat who absolutely hates using the litter box. He will cry his eyes out to be let out to do his business and only uses the box when there's noone home and he can't hold it anymore. According to the vet, he just doesn't like the litter we use. His sister on the other hand refuses to do her business outside and will always ask to be let back in so that she can use the litterbox. 😂 (and neither of them grew up with dogs, it's just a matter of tastes)
I've been fortunate enough to love cats and be loved by cats since I was a toddler. Myself at 2 years grabbed the neighborhood cat in a hug. The cat just waited to slide out of my arms and just looked at me. My grandma who was watching, said I looked down and the cat blinked, put her head to mine and just waited. Apparently I just put my forehead to hers and the cat was just patient with me while I tried to pet her. That's pretty much been the tone of my life whenever I encounter cats.
I am known as the Cat Whisperer among my friends. More times than I can count I have been at someone's house for the first time and spotted a cat. I would ask about the cat and would be told something to the effect of "You'll never get near them, they are scared of (or "hate") everyone. 100% of the time I would be petting and interacting with their cat within 20 minutes and the owners always told me how incredible that was and how their cat has never done that before with anyone. I've been fortunate enough to have kitties that loved me for decades. All you have to do is pay close attention to their body language and know what their different signs mean. They are speaking to you, even if they aren't using our words. Just pay attention.
@@Antney946 When I was 21 and dating a guy we went to visit his friends. I didn't know them. As were were sitting on the couch, the woman and her husband beside each other and me on the end their cat walked over to me. I bent down to pet her/him and she/he jumped in my lap. The conversation stop mid sentence and everyone looked at me. The woman who was sitting next to me said, "That cat doesn't go to anyone, not even family members !" I didn't know what to say but I always remembered that.
thats why cats are best. i am not really good with living things, autistic, but cats even the most spicey and i allways get along. i guess it is bc of my autism i am very sensitiv to not overhelm them when making contatc, giving them the opportunity to decide if they engage. also we share a deep disgust towards all non-feline lifeforms. most ppl think dogs can read ppl but dogs are so easy to fool, my kitty on the other hand never failed to judge ppl in seconds.
For real. I took in my brothers cat, we were always cool at his home…… but she’s still very “hidey.” Her daughter has blended in perfectly. I do have dogs, so I blame that.
When he got old, my cat would get stuck clawing the sofa, he'd then miaow as a way to ask me to help him. He'd always be really calm, letting me hold him as I lifted his paws/claws out of the fabric.
My cat is healthy and in her prime. She's just not too bright. Every single day, several times a day, she manages to get her one rogue claw stuck in one rug or another. But she still hasn't met a rug she doesn't want to roll herself around on while playfully batting with her paws. Then, when she's stuck, she doesn't even miaow. Just waits to be noticed. I only keep her because obviously someone's got to look after the daft thing.
My Lucy is an independent girl. She doesn’t want me to help her, usually. She has proven to me that she can do it herself!!! With hisses and being vocal about that when I go to help her. After trying, then backing off, she does it. Only a couple of times has she reluctantly let me help her when she knew she needed it but was mad at me for her getting her claw stuck. I know now when it happens and I ask her if she’s stuck, she knows she better do it before momma tries to help. I think I know how as I’ve done it but I’d love to know if there’s a secret to doing it without hurting her. I try to just lift the claw out of the item but she hisses and cries out but she is a drama queen. She doesn’t seem like she’s in any pain afterwards as I’m very careful about it.
I trim my cats claws but I’m glad she uses her scratching posts and not my furniture… Her claws get stuck when they’re overgrown though. I’m starting to get a bit worried about trimming them now though, she’s started to really hate it 🫣😂
Heres my cat story: I got a cat last night, i came out of my room and dad had a small kennel and looked stressed. I asked him what happened and he said "I rescued him" i thought it was a squirrel at first, then a rabbit, and finally a cat. He was in a bush on a busy interstate half a state (U.S) away, and i watched him while my dad got a better carrier for him. We havent had a pet since 2016 so i cried, and played soft music. He was purring SO loud, mostly because he got some food for the first time in however long. Then my dad took him to the vet the next morning as it was 8pm when he got home and he wasnt near death. Turns out the bite on his neck was from a fly who laid eggs in the wound, he had fleas, and his ear had been clipped because he was actually dumped in the woods after being neutered. Hes 6-8 weeks old so not agressive, but he also doesnt know a lot yet. Im so blessed we found him. His name is Kiwi!
My-year-old cat slaps me in the face with her tail for attention when I'm reading or on the phone. She has this impish look on her face when I pretend to be indignant. I'll move away a bit and she'll readjust her aim and smack me again! She gets my attention and that leads to me usually initiating a full-on play session. I've no doubt she loves me! I'm the only human she's ever interacted with except at the vets' office. She purrs, gives nose kisses and initiates cuddles a lot and kneads my stomach or thigh when we're getting ready to go to sleep. She's learned not to scratch me or the furniture and no longer tears up or knocks things over intentionally. She still loves climbing up high and hiding in weird places and jumping out to scare me. She was appatently an orphaned feral kitten that my 17 y.o. fixed toms found somehow out here in the country and broight her to me to raise when she was just 10 weeks old. They are devoted to her and she to them. She gave them a new lease on life and they've tried to protect her and teach her cat skills. ❤
Our cat will outright slowly swish his tail from side to side when you speak to him. He doesn’t do it for no reason either. He does this for attention, because it’s often accompanied by him meowing and marching around. He seems to really love verbal praise, not just physical touch. If you either don’t give him attention or stop giving him attention, he will turn and look at you and start meowing again. Yes, my cat is a literal prima donna who knows how cute he is, and knows how to use it to his advantage.
I NEVER doubted my cat loved me! If I were relaxing,my cat would jump into my lap, and be a' blanket', then lick my face from forehead to bottom lip to chin, look at me with absolute adoration, killed mice, and insects, and this was every time I sat cat was on my lap, purring. He'd roll over to get his belly 'scratched', and was so pliable I saw a claw that was loose so I said Could I remove the claw that's loose? He did nothing, as I gently removed the loose claw, and licked my hand ti say thank you!
I know they love me because they stare at me, follow me, and sleep on top on me. I accidentally clipped one nail too close today and Moonie bit me, but I think he forgave me because he's leaning on me right now. He didn't mean to and didn't bite me too bad, but he drew blood.
My baby is laying on me right now purring. She used to have a problem with over grooming so I took the poor thing to the vet and they didn’t find anything apart from the over grooming, luckily now she’s stopped and the patches of fur have grown back. She’s the sweetest little thing. I am convinced we were made for each other.
I have a cat that my Aunt raised from a kitten with an adult dog. When the cat is excited, or being given positive attention, she wags her tail rapidly like her doggy mom. So not all tail twitching is necessarily negative.
My cat didn't like to be affectionate, but he would be the one to seek me out first to play games and rubbed my leg when there was another cat present. I believe you.
My 2 yr old void is a polydactyl kitty. 7 toes on her front paws, 5 on the back. I've learned that I must keep her tails trimmed so they don't hurt. When they are getting too long, she scratches my chair. A quick visit by her groomer helps her feel much better!
So happy to hear this and hope your cat loves you. Let your kitty set the pace and come to you. All my cats come to me and cuddle up for kisses, gentle petting, soft whispers of their name, ask to be picked up and rocked. I pay a lot of attention to which food they prefer, keep litter boxes spotless etc. Good luck.
@@bethwasserman2882 thank you for your kind words! after giving vaccines and ensuring her health, so far my cat likes to play but doesn't like to be touched and she’s very smart! i’ll approach her slowly
@@mikelouis9389 had some issues out of nowhere. new litter box solved them. big and with high sides (12") w/ an opening (side, 8") for access. unscented litter. new padded handle scoop for me. the little one can step up to enter via a non-skid spice 'step-shelf' and I see everything clearly as well because it's open on top! super easy to clean daily in less than 3 minutes. they love it!
My parents’ rescue cat is very nervous and easily stressed (she had multiple broken bones from her awful previous owner, so I think a lot of it is trauma-related) and she only uses the litter box half the time. Simple things like noisy wind or a loud truck driving by will make her stop using the litter box! But she always runs to my dad for comfort, and when she’s feeling vulnerable she naps on his lap. Most people make her anxious, but we know she loves him at least 💜
Im really insecure cuz i clicked here but my cat dont do any of those things, sleeps with me, meows to me, licks my face and im still scared that i do something that makes him upset 😭😭
Hey man- listen to this internet stranger: Your cat loves you! You gotta ask yourself why you trying to convince yourself otherwise. Why do you think you don’t deserve to be loved? Then say Fuck You to those negative feelings. Your cat loves you. You’re a good person. Fuck listening to those negative self esteem voices. Smash them, and start to ENJOY your cat. Start telling yourself that you deserve love. Self esteem starts going up TODAY mister. Be good to yourself, love from a random internet stranger
If you move or add a new member to the family, give your cat time to adjust. After all, you can't simply move back or remove the new family member. However, if you give your cat time to adjust at their pace, they will return to their normal behavior. All my cat did was hide on these two factors. She eventually came out and started being social again. I did not rush her to adjust, I gave her time and made sure she knew that her needs were still going to be meant.
I was sure my boy hated me in the 1st 2 years of our relationship. He would let me start petting him (and, I tried to limit it as I wasn't sure what his threshold was) and he would suddenly turn on me and grab me with his claws on the sides of my head. He didn't do much damage except to my feelings. He was supposed to be my emotional support animal. I began to make a loud (not too loud) ha sound in his face. After a while of that, he began to stop and think about whether he really wanted to do that. He began to stop. One day it was like a switch had been flipped and he turned into a big cuddle bug. He loves getting kisses. We head bump, rub noses, and do the slow blinks. I think he was afraid I would take him back to the shelter. There was no way I could do that as I feared he might be put down. Like I said, he's my cuddle bug. The girl I had before was with me for 16 years and was 17 when I had to let her go. It was so hard to do. I hope my boy and I have a long time together. He will probably be my last cat as I'm getting older. I've made plans for someone to take him if I go first. This person knows his history with me and will take good care of my Mr B.
You sound like the perfect mom for your boy. I've had so many cats in my life, and I can say that the boys tend to be more affectionate. Especially orange tabbies! Very sweet and very patient.
So true that cats can be insecure and need to know you are their clan and firmly attached to them. It's so nice to keep reassuring they are your very own and you'll never leave them or forsake them
Very much like many of the "problem kids" from foster homes, they are afraid to become attached to somebody because they believe that person will let them down. Then they misbehave because, if it's going to happen anyway, they may as well get it over with. It happens with children, cats, dogs and other animals too. It's a tragic self-perpetuating circle of behaviour but, once they realise that they are loved, as you have learned, it is worth all the effort. Thank you for making the world a better place for your Mr B.
It's interesting that it took around two years for him to accept you. I've had cats all my life and one thing I have learned is that, although a cat can adapt to a new situation very quickly, it takes about 18-24 months for them to become comfortable with it. If you are aware and watching for it, you can see when they reach that point. They seem so much more relaxed and it is, as you described, almost like flicking a switch or pressing a button. So that would be my message to anybody who is struggling with an unsettled cat. Be patient. It's not a quick fix but with love and patience you'll get there!
My cat definitely did not love me when she tried OFTEN to trip me at the top of my stairs… now she’s stopped doing that I’m starting to believe she’s started to love me 😂
Rubbing against your legs is them bunting, telling you you're theirs. They dont usually pay attention to where you are when they do this. Morning bunting is very common-its them making sure you remember where you belong. Your cat would just not if it didnt like you
@@katrenacanaday4992 I really appreciate you trying to explain it, but she didn’t do any bunting at the top of the stairs. She would sit there patiently when she heard me coming towards the staircase, then make a deliberate swipe to try and hook my leg so I’d lose my footing 👀 I’m not even joking 🫣😂 she tended to do it as revenge like after her annual bath or forced to stay in because of bad weather etc. She doesn’t do it anymore thankfully but, she’s almost 10 now. I think she’s just mellowed out with age 😂 I just have to be real, she’s a little psycho… 😂
Heehee. (Sorry) My sister had a place with stairs that had runs but not risers - the ones that you can see through because it only has the parts you step on.) Her cat would hang upside down on a step and attack your ankles as you'd come downstairs. We had to keep toys at the top to throw down before descent.
Glad you want another kitty. Please visit your local shelter and adopt an older cat. Have my “stray from the bay” who adopted me 3 years ago, 22 lbs. Cuddler. Help local shelter. Adopted a 17 year old last summer. Over 18 now. Cuddles, eats, sleeps and plays a bit. Brought home a 15 year old 3 months ago. Sweet girl. Owners of both cats died.
I have a Devon Rex and I originally thought I must have been doing something wrong as she constantly wagged her tail. However I’ve since learned that the Devon Rex is the only breed of Cat that wags its tail when it’s happy!! 🥰❤
My cat wanted to go up to the loft to catch a bug and couldn’t get up there. So he asked me to help him up by putting his hand on my chest and pointing to loft with other hand
Once there was a really annoying fly I couldn’t reach on the ceiling, so I lifted my cat up and she got it. Now whenever she sees a bug on the ceiling she wants to “play with” she comes to get me so I can lift her up 😅
I got my Chloe when she was 8 weeks old. She was born in a garage and the owner couldn't keep them. She was so tiny and precious....a complete snuggle bunny. At 1 year she snuggled less, swatted more and refused to be picked up. She is 9 now and will come to me, bite my foot then run away. She will also hiss at me if she thinks I am following her. She's nuts.
I adopted an abandoned kitten at about eight weeks. She seemed to start to warm to us quickly but then as the months passed she's becoming less interested in human contact and will run if I'm walking by. She will usually tolerate being petted if she's lying on an elevated surface so maybe she's fearful of being stepped on when she's on the ground and more vulnerable. She seems to love the dogs in our household and rubs against them often. But she's small for her age and there are two older cats in our family so she might also feel like she's at a disadvantage, though she definitely has proven to be the aggressor whenever any conflicts arise. She's now nine months old and I've almost given up the idea of her ever becoming a loving cat, but I'll keep trying to reach out to her and hopefully one day she'll actually enjoy human interaction and seek it out. I've never experienced such a standoffish personality, but she still deserves a safe environment to live out her life. So we just try to accept who she is and adjust our expectations. I wish I could afford a behavioral therapist for her...or snag a visit from Jackson Galaxy. Such mysterious creatures, they are. :-)
@@natsomething0 She may become more affectionate over time, just based on a couple of our (too many) cats! Particularly the first one and eldest, Cricket, who played herself off as a little sweetie at the shelter, only to get home and prove herself feisty and somewhat standoffish. She is a jerk to this day. But a jerk who has divulged that, deep down, she is (not so) secretly a snuggle-bug (just so long as the other cats don't see!!)- she likes to curl up in a lap and knead! She's gotten more and more snuggly and affectionate over the years (but is definitely still feisty and thinks she should be waited on hand and foot lol). Either way, best of luck! It's lovely that she has a safe, loving home, regardless of whether or not she comes back around the snuggledom!
1- leaves death threats on social media about you 2-they push one of the kids roller skates strategically to the edge of the top stair just as your wiping your eyes coming out of the bathroom. 3-you wake up on Xmas morning and they’ve shit on your presents under the tree. 4-They put up missing cat posters of themselves with a £1000 reward and sit and wait outside your house when your not looking. 5- you wake one morning half opening your eyes and they’re standing on your chest staring demonically at you with a knife between their teeth
😻Very cute! Im a vet assistant, here’s a few friendly suggestions: cut back on dry cat food. Over time, it can cause urinary blockage, especially for males. Try upgrading to ‘Purina One’ canned & dry cat food, ‘Hills Science Diet’ is good too. ‘Indoor’ labeled cat foods are lower calories. Keep your cat Indoors, protect them from traffic and Predators and traffic. Especially around night Have an older kitty? bring it in for a ‘Senior Blood Panel’, you’ll see possible health concerns, while it’s early. 🐱 🐾
My cat does the same thing as dogs because she was raised by dogs. It's confusing af cause I know it usually means agitation but my cat does it all the time while cuddling sweetly
Get an older cat or kitten, they will brighten your life forever. Leave the water and food out. Change the litter box every 7 days or it’s a outside cat. 0:43 Easy stuff. Cats love you always. Facts
Just remember that dog love and cat love are two different things, and if trying to measure how much your cat cares by measures of dog attitudes and tolerances, then you're sadly going to be disappointed-what IS a reality is that if they trully dislike you, they will leave your company and find another place to go. They're extremely independent that way. Dogs seek to keep you pleased. Cats are content to let you be yourself, even as you cry or get angry. They will sit with you. And as long as their human takes good care of them, they usually respond in kind. If a cat is distant, even as your being kind, it is likely they they are not used to the kindness and are waiting for the other shoe to drop. Averting your gaze and tapping tail doesnt necessarily mean they don't like you. It could very easily mean they're agitated at something else, and you just happen to be there Also note that you're not confusing refusal to get along with them just not having a good day that day
Bottom line is, we will never be able to understand cats. So the best thing is to treat your cats well, hope for the best and make believe they love you....
My cat is a outdoor cat. Male. When he is at home he likes to doze under the bed. Sometimes he feels lucky and then he comes to sit next to me on the sofa. But he don’t likes to be petted to much. He then disappears. He is a really own of a cat. He lives his cat life - and humans..? well they are around too.
Those are not signs that "your cat doesn't love you”, they are signs that your cat is experiencing stress or discomfort. If YOUlove your cat, by observation you will be able to determine the cause of this discomfort and eliminate it. Your cat will thank you for your attention.
I have had 2 cats that give me love bites to show affection. It startles me gor a sec, then i remember - oh yeah. You're so-and-so, that's what you do. They're hentle and don't hurt if uou don't know love bites. Several of my cats bonk their head on me. I don't believe it was marking me, but more like a kiss. My Tabbs believes in rough love. She'll launch herself at your shoulders from up to 6-8 feet away, sinking her claws in to make sure she doesn't fall, and beats snd rubs her head against us (even harder when she's in heat); and my Sammy (favorite ever!) would run up to me and stand on her hind legs and pit her front paws in my leg (and sometimes stretch). That was hugs from her. I also had a bobcat / domestic cat hybrid that was INCREDIBLY smart. (And agile. He could eat with forks and spoons, and would hold onto my finger when we took naps together). I'd say "Spooks, kisses", and he'd run over to me and bump his head against my mouth. 😻
My cats have all passed on, the last, Baby, being of old age at a venerable 19 years and was the only one I raised from a nursing kitten. Baby constantly locked eyes with me and slow-blinked, her tail only flicked fast when she was upset or playing, she only really clawed her favorite spots or at a door when she wanted through, she hated litter boxes and preferred to go outside in the sand pit we sifted weekly and mixed Feline Pine litter into, she was a shaggy long-hair so her hind legs would get matted stiff without help and she was always affectionate after we trimmed her leg and butt hair, she only hid when we had visitors. Oh how I miss her...
I have a high-anxiety cat who grooms himself a lot. Otherwise he's pretty chill. My other cat, who I just adopted two days ago, is very affectionate and friendly. Both of them get overstimulated pretty easily and tend to bite when they do. Not hard enough to break skin, just enough to make the petting stop. I adore both of them. ❤
I have two cats at my parent's, Maja and Lizzy. Maja has been our family cat for 11 years now, we know her since she was one week old and she moved in with us at 10 weeks old. Lizzys story is more complicated and not as nice as Majas. We've had her for almost seven years, and she's 8 now. We've known her longer, she was my older sister's cat, and my sister had to give her up after a messy breakup and a spontaneous move into another city, and we suspect that my sister's ex hurt her when he was alone with him. She still has some trauma and strong boundaries, but she's generally a happy girl. Was a long way to earn her trust, buf 100% worth it. I started university in 2020, though I mostly had online classes at first. Once I had more offline classes and had to spend more time in the dorm room instead of living at home all the time, Maja got so stressed that she started to rip out her belly fur. She's fine now, other than a chronical respiratory infection that doesn't bother her much. And Lizzy always expects me to cuddle with her on the couch when I'm home. Gonna see my girls tomorrow, and in the time I'm in the city I volunteer at an animal shelter, spending time with the cats there.
My cat does not meow much but will sit and stare at me when he wants my attention. He does not like to be picked up or cuddled but prefers to cuddle along side me on the couch softly purring and loves belly rubs. He was a terrified rescue and even 4yrs on, Im still the only human he will come near.
My cat looks at me in the eye like Samuel L Jackson on that meme where he is on a white shirt 🤣 and if I make eye contact she start purring like an engine
I've known cats that literally wag their tails in excitement like a dog, usually during play. You really have to know what mode the cat is in as to whether it's a good or bad thing. Another sign that people say means a cat doesn't like you is if you pick them up they want back down, or if you put them in your lap and they hop off quickly. Cats are very picky about who can do what with them. A family member's cat tolerates me picking her up for a little bit but I'll let her down when she starts wanting down. She won't lay in my lap or on my chest unless she chooses to and she does that very rarely. I have tremors and uncontrollable muscle twitches, thankfully usually small ones, so I don't blame her for not wanting to deal with that. One thing I've got going for me with animals, especially cats and dogs, is my insanely high tolerance means they can be rough and go full force with me. If you've ever had a cat grab your hand with both front paws and sink their claws in you can probably understand why people don't like it. It doesn't bother me at all. My friends had dogs that would literally run full speed and jump at me to play. They would chase me and I'd chase them. One of my roommates dogs figured out he didn't need to be gentle with me and he went crazy wanting to play everytime I went outside with him. He freaking loved it! I've ended play sessions with cats and dogs with my arms and hands covered in scratches, then someone else plays with them and they are super gentle. The average pet will figure out very quickly who they can play with and how, they aren't stupid like most people think. Even my mom was surprised when she got a new kitten and she would attack my hands in play and sink her teeth in with me, but as soon as someone else tried to play with her like that she just stared at them and refused to play like that.
We called the slow blinking “Love beams”. Cat’s are surprisingly good at communicating. We used to joke that they communicated with telepathy because all they had to do was look at anyone of us and we knew what it was that they wanted.
If I don't bend to my master, he scratches the scratch box. The poor dear became angry when I say "no." He wants to go out so much, and I have to deter him most of the day. Yes, he walks on a leash, but I'm not going to stand out there for more than 20-30 minutes. I go down the hall to eat, and he is okay with that activity now, but if I'm talking and not eating, he cries. My cat will pet me at times. However, he will put his paw on my lips if he wants me to go away or shut up. Overstimulation, usually when I pet him, leads to him jumping off of the bed. Also, bedtime is supposed to be at ten for the human. She must wake up before seven... yes, master. The home has breakfast at that time, and he knows. He eats first. II have to clean each bowl in the morning, or he will vomit all over my carpet, too. On the plus side, he tells me he loves me all the time with those eyes and kisses. Keiko loves to snuggle. The cat doesn't always like when I do it. The creature knows I am not a cat. The no no spot is on his rear. Strangers can scratch that and he'll arch. He gives me a warning meow if I do. We've been together for 13 almost 14 years.
There is a behavior where cats dramatically won't look at you, keep turning away very fast in other directions... and this is a game they will play with their mom and littermates, and some play it with humans. It actually means they trust you enough to look away. You're supposed to "chase" the eye contact. There is also a game adult cats play with kittens where they thrash their tail like they are mad, often looking at the kittens and whacking them... it's hunt training. We call it "kitten fishin." We have a 21 year old cat who gets excited when he sees young cats because it is his favorite thing in the world, and also does it to humans. He's also dedicated to the "my paw is on top" game. Cats are from a very small group of animals that "play act" with each other, adults will pretend to be scared of tiny kitten hisses, or ignore them, or play dead or asleep, etc. That's why it's important to try to learn more signals than just ears and tails, because cats can lie, basically.
Based on this my cat absolutely loves me more than anything. She follows me around the house and around the yard. when I take the dogs for a walk which is over a mile each way she follows right along. She stares into my eyes and loves it when I stare back at her. She can never be close enough to me. She loves being petted over her entire body. She's so respectful of me and My space. She never ever scratches and she plays very carefully. I live in the woods in Northern California, she just kind of appeared. One of her ears was clipped so I knew she was fixed. She was probably 6 months old when she decided to become part of my family. 4 months she would follow myself and the dogs when we went for walks. Finally one day she decided to come right to the door and when the dogs ran at her to chase her away she's just stood there. At that point she became close with the dogs and I would feed the three of them together. It was so cute to see, one of my dog's weighs 160 lb and the other ones 110. She's probably 3 lbs.😂
It's official. My kitty is very happy with me and loves me very much. She always has her tail up around me, and she makes a lot of eye contact. She leans into my touch when I pet her, and she purrs and smiles. She's a good girl. Her name is Mindy, but her nickname is Mindles, and she's an orange and white tabby. She's my best friend in the world. I tell her every day. ❤
We adopted a stray cat six months ago and she revealed herself to be a real touch-me-not. But as time has gone by she is less elusive and we are able to pet her sometimes now - and she mostly likes it. I started feeding her some of that treat gravy in a slender packet in the afternoons. I squeeze it onto my finger and she happily licks it off. She has started warming up to me a lot more and reacting when I talk to her. You might want to try this with your kitty. Best of luck!
My cat seemed to have had a love/hate relationship with me. I was a kid. It was very much a big brother/little brother relationship. He LOOOOOOOOVED my mom!
I always feel like my cats hates me because she hates affection, but she does stuff like sleeps next to me when I'm at my desk or in bed she'll sleep between my legs. That's her way of showing affection I think. She also follows me around everywhere, which I think is cool. She doesn't let me touch her though. She doesn't let anyone touch her really.
I never knew what the slow blinking meant , I live alone and got cat a year ago . When we get ready for bed she always winks or slow blinks at me . When I do it back to her she gets all excited sometimes and runs around 😂😂
I already knew all of these, but am glad someone is spreading accurate info on cats. A lot of info, especially shorts, seem to be spreading false rumors so its nice to see this for once.
I found my cat in October when the temperature dropped well below 0. He was a former neighbor's cat and he came to my porch. I let him in so he wouldn't die and he settled in since then. Despite not knowing me for long, he shows signs of affection to me whenever he sees me and follows me around outside like a dog. He gets along with my dog, but I think my dog gets a bit jealous. He doesn't like using the litter box, and for some reason he has trouble using it cause he paws at the side of the sink trying to bury it and he just looks confused. He goes out a lot and hunts mice, so I gave him worm medicine. If I get upset and send him out to clean up whatever mess he might have caused, he brings a mouse back to apologize. I know it's a peace offering cause usually he eats all but their heads and stomachs, and sometimes their gallbladders. He leaves them intact to apologize/offer it to me. He's fairly big and will bully other cats if they come near my porch. I don't know his name, but I'm glad I saved him from the cold.
If they're scratching where you don't want them to, it could be a texture issue. Try providing the same texture in the place where you want them to scratch, and relocate them from the 'not there' place to the 'there' place, with patience and acceptance.
Good point! I have an old couch and all three of my cats LOVE scratching it, it’s a weird fabric so I think it just feels nice to scratch 😅 One side is slightly damaged so we “compromised” and they’re allowed to scratch that side but not the other, and we just have that side facing away and less visible. Now everyone is happy 😂
i thought my cat hated me because i do everything like i take him to the vet, apply medicine when needed, stuff that annoy him. a couple days ago he was sitting on me and i started crying due to unrelated stuff and i asked him "do you love me?" he looked at me straight and slowly blinked before shying out and running out of the room 🤔
Number 2 doesn't seem entirely correct. An older cat I had would intentionally flick his tail to play with a younger cat I had. It wasn't an uncommon sight on other households either.
My cat follows me around like his world is going to end if he lets me out of his sight. He will stand between me and the door and meow like crazy if I'm about to leave for work. Then when I come home he greets me like Hobbes greeted Calvin in the old newspaper comics. When I'm doing something that doesn't involve him, like playing a video game, he'll jump up on the trash can near my desk and curl up. The only time he hides is if the maintenance guy has to be in the apartment, or if something crazy is happening (had a smoke alarm chirp for a full day before maintenance came 'round to replace it, for example. Or, in the summer, when the plaza outside my building is playing host to a festival or outdoor concert.) When that happens, nothing in heaven or earth can extract him from behind the laundry machines in the bathroom. I watch these videos because I like to make sure I'm not the worst human ever to Catface.
My cat wags her tail every time she sees me. Like absolutely goes crazy to the point you have to hope there's nothing to knock over. It's the oddest thing, but there's no doubt in my mind she adores me as much as I do her
Fortunately for my wife and I none of our cats (we have 4) are displaying signs of not loving us or illness. We respect their space and try not to raise our voices to them. We obligingly raise the window blinds for them to look out the windows. One of our cats has brought me pairs of my socks, which I've thanked him for. All of them usually walk around with their tales up. Two of them regularly sleep with us; the other two come around for the middle of the night health check of us. All of them will come around for cuddles and to be petted.
For the last few days my cats threw up a lot. There's nothing wrong with them, they just ate too much. But I think another cause was the new cat food I gave them. They can't get enough of it and devour everything at once so it upsets their stomachs. But they refuse to eat their original cat food! I'm in a conundrum.
Mix their old food 50/50 with the new to,give their tummies time to adjust. Also, if you can, feed small portions 3 or 4 times a day instead of once or twice. That should help. If they still gulp their food, you might get some puzzle feeders from Amazon. Silicone trays with bumps and creases to help them slow down whilst eating.
Also be aware that some cats express their love for you in their own ways. One of my cats (Zero) loves to slow blink at me and he kneads on me. The other (Calvin) does neither of these things (I’ve never seen him knead before in his whole life), but when I talk to him, his tail immediately goes straight up and he purrs very loudly when I pet him or feed him. Calvin also is around me more often than Zero is, who is more of an independent explorer. Which is funny because Zero enjoys cuddling more than Calvin does. Cats each have their own personalities and express love differently like humans, so if your cat doesn’t slow blink at you or maybe doesn’t purr very often it doesn’t mean they don’t love you
I don’t want them to love me, for me is enough that I love them 😂 I’m just their captor and I’m trying to make them the most spoiled cats ever, no suffering allowed under my roof for my gorgeous guests ❤
When I was young I used to let all the cats into my room at night and they would all sleep on me lol. They used to exhibit a fair few of the stress patterns mentioned in this video when around my stepfather, but I inherited my dad's ability to put out the right vibe with animals ^^ between us we've had no less than 5 animals adopt us as owners (4 cats and my current saluki longdog ^^)
My cat was been slow blinking at me less for awhile, I realized I was petting him more roughly that I used to and I've been making an effort to change that and he has been seeking me out for slow blinks and kisses. Also we have been decluttering and organizing and he has started scratching a leather dining chair. It's good to know it's his way of relieving anxiety. Now I'm going to put a scratching post next to the chair, I hope that will give him an appropriate alternative since I need to continue decluttering
My cat hates kids, and it's all because my oldest yanked out a clump of fur of his above his tail when she was a baby. There's rare times when he lets my girls pet him, and when they're sick, he'll lay at their feet when they're asleep and then come back to me. He also gets overly stimulated whenever I smack his butt. He's my baby. He's going to be 15 years old in July. He's my world. My coping mechanism. He's always with me, especially whenever I'm sick and depressed. He knows when my depression hits before I do. He cuddles up to me and sleeps with me in my arms or on top of me. He doesn't care much for anyone else besides me in my household.
That was quite informative. My former social cat hides often since I moved to where I live now. The move had the opposite effect on my elder cat. He became more visible whereas before he would hide. Interesting and great to know about cat behaviors. ❤😮👏
I believe my cat deeply tolerates me.
That's the best one can hope for sometimes. 🤭

@@robynaitken7207 staring and eye contact are two different things. My cat loves it when I look into his eyes and we blink slowly hahahaha
Every behavior listed could indicate issues that the owner can help resolve due to physical illness or misunderstanding on the part of the owner:
1. Avoids eye contact/leaves room when you come in. - Cat has trust issues or is frightened by something the owner is doing? These are both things that can be worked on.
2. Flicking their tail because they're annoyed by your presence. -- Owner may not realize that their own behavior is to blame--not understanding the tail flicking that indicates that the cat is has become overstimulated by petting
Thank you!
I've had Calicos & Tortie for almost 30 years. They're definitely sassy, but they're also usually very motherly and caring.
@@drunkensquirrel7545 That's good to know. She did have some attitude at times, especially with strangers. I miss her a lot.
That’s so so sweet and special you are very lucky to have had that kind of companion during those times. My baby girl qweenie cat also comes to me when she sees me holding back my emotions. Calicos are the best.
They can spot a sucker a mile away 🤣

all my cats: 👁👄👁
SAME MY LIL GUY JUST STARESSS
I had a cat that would NEVER use a litterbox, even if alone in the house all day. I don't know why, but it was nice that I never had to clean his litterbox.
He would only go outside. He would stand by the door and meow to be let out, and 5-10 min later would meow to come back in. Staying away more than 20 min was very rare.
My cats would come in from outside just to use the litter box! Thanks, dudes! 😂😂😂
@@TearfulZorua Don't know about early life since he was an adopted rescue. Generally affectionate and well behaved,.
(and neither of them grew up with dogs, it's just a matter of tastes)
I didn't know them. thats why cats are best. i am not really good with living things, autistic, but cats even the most spicey and i allways get along. i guess it is bc of my autism i am very sensitiv to not overhelm them when making contatc, giving them the opportunity to decide if they engage. also we share a deep disgust towards all non-feline lifeforms. most ppl think dogs can read ppl but dogs are so easy to fool, my kitty on the other hand never failed to judge ppl in seconds.
I love that this video talked about causes, solutions, and overall cat health versus just the cat hate.
Agreed, I like when videos like this are helpful rather than just negative.
We all clicked on this bc we want to hurt our own feelings
For real. I took in my brothers cat, we were always cool at his home…… but she’s still very “hidey.” Her daughter has blended in perfectly. I do have dogs, so I blame that.
Nah, it validated how much my cat loves me 😂
Wasn't here to be that negatively, truthfully.
Get out of my head
I just want to make fun of people
Also play with your cat. Cats need play as much as cuddles. To them, playing together is showing affection.
This is an important advice.
When he got old, my cat would get stuck clawing the sofa, he'd then miaow as a way to ask me to help him. He'd always be really calm, letting me hold him as I lifted his paws/claws out of the fabric.
I had one I had to unhook regularly. After her, I trained the new family members to accept regular claw clipping. Now they rarely get stuck.
I’m starting to get a bit worried about trimming them now though, she’s started to really hate it 🫣😂
Just trim the nails, or file them down.
I'm glad you guys rescued him from being a feral cat!
update us if you can! I’m very invested in Kiwi’s journey!
Our boy stairs so intently at me and into my eyes so intensely...if I were less knowledgeable about cats, I would think he's plotting my demise. ❤️ 🐈
My 14 year old cat still looks into my eyes like a lover ❤
Cats don’t love you is not right. They love you but they have their own way to show they love you at their own terms.
Wishful thinking. Sometimes a cat may simply not love their owner. Ownership does not always buy love.
Keep telling yourself that unloved one
My cat didn't like to be affectionate, but he would be the one to seek me out first to play games and rubbed my leg when there was another cat present. I believe you.
To be fair, it's often because there's some behavior you do with cats that this particular cat does not like.
Sometimes they don't like people, or at least the people they live with. It's not the majority of cases, but it's also not that uncommon.
My 2 yr old void is a polydactyl kitty. 7 toes on her front paws, 5 on the back. I've learned that I must keep her tails trimmed so they don't hurt. When they are getting too long, she scratches my chair. A quick visit by her groomer helps her feel much better!
I was scared to watch the video and procrastinated until now! But I'm glad to see that my cat loves me in her darling kitty way. Phew!

@@UrrmmWut... hahaha I’m not even joking! She was evil!
Heehee. (Sorry)
My sister had a place with stairs that had runs but not risers - the ones that you can see through because it only has the parts you step on.)
Her cat would hang upside down on a step and attack your ankles as you'd come downstairs. We had to keep toys at the top to throw down before descent.
It doesn't matter if my cat loves me . I love my cat....that's all that matters to me. 😊
Thank you for sharing I love all animals I’m thinking of getting a kitty 🐱 I lost my cat 2 years ago I still miss her 😢
Glad you want another kitty.
What a sweet cat! Haha I have an orange cat that wags her tail when she's excited and happy. Some cars are just quirky
I know a cat that I took care of for her owner with dementia. She wags her tail like a dog when she comes to greet me or wants more attention.
Now whenever she sees a bug on the ceiling she wants to “play with” she comes to get me so I can lift her up 😅
I've seen cats so this, it's spooky! 😮
1- leaves death threats on social media about you
2-they push one of the kids roller skates strategically to the edge of the top stair just as your wiping your eyes coming out of the bathroom.
3-you wake up on Xmas morning and they’ve shit on your presents under the tree.
4-They put up missing cat posters of themselves with a £1000 reward and sit and wait outside your house when your not looking.

Especially around night
Have an older kitty? bring it in for a ‘Senior Blood Panel’, you’ll see possible health concerns, while it’s early. 🐱 🐾
Our 16 year old cat ALWAYS flicks his tail back and forth… even when he’s asleep.
When dogs wag their tails they are expressing love and affection. When a cat does this, they mean 100 percent business. :)
They also do it when playing and getting excited.. doesnt have to be bad
Facts
I noticed that since I started using the litter box myself my cat now uses the toilet

It could very easily mean they're agitated at something else, and you just happen to be there
Also note that you're not confusing refusal to get along with them just not having a good day that day
Just because your cat may not respond or trust you doesn't mean they don't love you.
Bottom line is, we will never be able to understand cats. So the best thing is to treat your cats well, hope for the best and make believe they love you....
My relative who lived in America got rid of my cats front claws but it’s illegal to do that in the UK, I think it should be illegal in the US
Agreed! It's cruel and harmful. Cats can be trained to not scratch furniture. You just have to provide a scratching post for them to use.
"Sign 2!" (image says "sign 3")
Yeah this is going to be well made and worth sitting through. lol
That's this whole channel.
I have had 2 cats that give me love bites to show affection. It startles me gor a sec, then i remember - oh yeah. You're so-and-so, that's what you do. They're hentle and don't hurt if uou don't know love bites.
Several of my cats bonk their head on me. I don't believe it was marking me, but more like a kiss. My Tabbs believes in rough love. She'll launch herself at your shoulders from up to 6-8 feet away, sinking her claws in to make sure she doesn't fall, and beats snd rubs her head against us (even harder when she's in heat);
and my Sammy (favorite ever!) would run up to me and stand on her hind legs and pit her front paws in my leg (and sometimes stretch).
My cat likes me, but she LOVES my wife. It's as if she is her "momma cat."
She is her mama cat.❤
The cat on my avatar is Max he likes me...but LOVES his papa
My cat does not meow much but will sit and stare at me when he wants my attention. He does not like to be picked up or cuddled but prefers to cuddle along side me on the couch softly purring and loves belly rubs. He was a terrified rescue and even 4yrs on, Im still the only human he will come near.
My cat looks at me in the eye like Samuel L Jackson on that meme where he is on a white shirt 🤣 and if I make eye contact she start purring like an engine
I’ve never been so relieved to not relate to a video ❤ my kitty loves me 😊
I've known cats that literally wag their tails in excitement like a dog, usually during play.
My cat is very lovable he sleeps on top of me.always gazes in my eyes and rubs his face on mine
So give people a reason to abandon a cat even though they depend on you! Nice!
You need to grow up and get smarter.
My cats like to crawl under the blankets with me and snuggle. 🥰
If they want to be fed and have their litter cleaned, they will love you.
What about if they avoid you all day but when your asleep they try to cuddle?❤
They sort of like you when they need you as comfort lol
Do you have a busy cat garden? The house is cuddling up next to you to guide you.
My cat scratches a lot every morning out of love. She just walks up to my room door and scratches until I let her in LOL
My cat hates me. This saddens me. I really liked her.
You can try and provide a better environment, I'm sure she'll eventually love you ❤
We adopted a stray cat six months ago and she revealed herself to be a real touch-me-not.
This whole time I viewed him using the restroom outside as a positive thing and was so proud of him. Instead he was UPSET WITH ME.
My cats are very affectionate and love to stare in my eyes. They are so beautiful and love to cuddle with me.😻😻
My cat seemed to have had a love/hate relationship with me.
This doesn’t have to do with love, cats just like space! They are independent and don’t always want to be bothered.
My cat is a very affectionate stalker, so I guess she loves us.
Me watching this like 👀 even tho my mental health is hanging by the string my cat likes to play with
i thought my cat hated me because i do everything like i take him to the vet, apply medicine when needed, stuff that annoy him.
a couple days ago he was sitting on me and i started crying due to unrelated stuff and i asked him "do you love me?" he looked at me straight and slowly blinked before shying out and running out of the room 🤔
Looks like cat loves you bases on eye contact and blinking... nice confirmation! ❤
@@Kismetakiss good to know after one whole year i got him 😅❤️
Number 2 doesn't seem entirely correct. An older cat I had would intentionally flick his tail to play with a younger cat I had. It wasn't an uncommon sight on other households either.
My cat loves me she follows me everywhere. ❤
I have a dog that follows me everywhere then bought two kittens home and now I have three dogs

It's the oddest thing, but there's no doubt in my mind she adores me as much as I do her
Mine loved me very much. Slow blinking, head butting, and always sitting at the gate and waiting for me after school...I miss him
Fortunately for my wife and I none of our cats (we have 4) are displaying signs of not loving us or illness.
I had this problem too so I switched them to Friskies canned...now an occasional hairball but NO food vomit.
Cats each have their own personalities and express love differently like humans, so if your cat doesn’t slow blink at you or maybe doesn’t purr very often it doesn’t mean they don’t love you
Slow blinking with our cats is one of my favorite things to do after a difficult time.
Thank you for your video. There are times my cat tolerates. It is okay as long as she is happy. 😻
Never had to deal with any of these things with my cats. Yes, I am amazing.
👑
She loves me when she's hungry 😂😂😂
i really enjoyed the balanced tone. Great firm signs and explanations.
