    I have a friend who lives just southwest of Asheville. She texted the morning before Helene arrived and knew it would be catastrophic, as in a 100-year flood. They had already been getting extremely heavy rain from the front that had moved in a day earlier. The track of Helene in that area was predicted by computer models a day or more before. Not a whole lot of time to prepare. But we should prepare for more storms like this in lots of places given how warm the water is, whatever the cause. God bless the people of western North Carolina.

    • @jackgardner8225
      @jackgardner8225 Месяц назад

      Whatever the cause? We know the cause. We were warned 15+ years ago by scientists like Dr. James Hansen of NASA. He authored the book "Storms of my Grandchildren" which forecast this very scenario, but intellectuals and the educated were ridiculed and mocked by the uneducated (folks on the right) and the oil & gas industry (who undertook the largest misinformation campaign in the planet's history).
      How much you wanna bet both North Carolina and Tennessee both go republican in November? You get what you vote for. It's only going to get worse.

    Local Tennessee officials are saying this is the worst hurricane to ever affect Tennessee. Places are Erwin and Greenville are facing absolutely catrostophic flooding.
    However, is this means anything, another town, Winchester TN, was spared from catastrophic flooding because of the last minute easternly track of the storm. Winchester is fairly populus with about 10,000 people living there. If Winchester was added to the major flooding list I gurenattee more people would've died, especially since this area is quite poor.

My heart goes out to all affected. I will be heading down with my dogs to perform search and rescue and my dogs are also earth movers. I will bring as much supplies as I can transport to hand out to those impacted by the flooding. I would not be surprised to see the death toll rise. The speed at which things manifested and got out of control, perhaps trapped a lot of people in their homes and vehicles on the roads. So very sad. That has been a very beautiful region of our nation, many people from the NE retiring and relocating to the Asheville and NW NC and NE Tennessee regions.

    Can't imagine the elderly who are able to be home but are frail. The ones whom don't have family near or have distanced themselves cause they don't want any responsibility to help them out like Dr appointments or getting to the grocery store. Thank goodness for transit bus in our county. It's aggravating you have to wait for them to come pick you back up,but it's better than no way to get around. Some are in wheelchairs as myself. We can do a lot to take care of ourselves, we learn as we go. Basically you're on your own, when kids are dealing with kids of their own. Most are teens now,and in activities at school. Jobs to help pay for large homes and food,gym every morning before work. Their lives are busy an I don't want them putting their lives aside to take care of me. Plus they live hours away. Buying homes closer to work and looking for good schools. I'm just proud they doing well themselves cause times are hard for everybody. All it would take is fir one to loose their job and they would be struggling. So I don't put the guilt trip on them. I never will. Guess if I were faced with power outage for days I could make it but all that flooding that no one anticipated is frightening. Resources are tight for older retired people. Staying a week in a motel is out of the equation. Hopefully some one would come around checking or a number you could call to get to safety in these circumstances. I noticed there were shelters but don't know if they were set up before or after the storm. If before one could grab a back pack throw in their meds an a changing of clothes and pray for the best. Old people are full of knowledge cause they have had years of experience. Wouldn't hurt to listen to them. Not all are feeble minded. Just life illness hits them to,like everybody else. But you will find out who your friends are if you're hurt from some accident or illness that causes you to become disabled. Like can't walk ,see, or a stroke that leaves you not able to speak. You will have your parents,parents will be there to take care of you as long as they are able. They will be the ones who won't turn their backs mo matter how old you are. So look around,if you know of an elderly person in the building where you live or down the street call the help line and let them know about that person. If at all possible do it yourself. You could be the one that saves a life. ❤
