There have been so many floods in WNC that devastated people's lives in rural areas, especially along creeks. Their stories aren't often told because news crews flock to Biltmore Village and the River Arts District. I'm glad this news crew told the other stories.
I know, right? I keep seeing pictures of Biltmore village, which is full of expensive shops, but not homes. Rural folks in this area need help!
Might take several weeks to search everywhere and its doubtful they will be able to account for everyone who is missing.

This is the best report I've seen on the devastation in NC. Most news crews just stand around Biltmore Village and say the same thing over and over, but this lady gave an in depth, caring and informative report about what real people are experiencing. Thank you.

Greg Bifle nascar driver and cleetus McFarland youtuber and drag racer put out a call for action and 20 helicopters showed up to fly in supplies to Ashville NC and surrounding areas. Operation air drop. Please give these people some help. Greg and cleetus McFarland and others are paying for what people need if it not donated.

They are having a tough time getting to those communities. I just watched about 25 men clear about twenty large trees with trunks between 28 and 30 inches off a highway. It cleared the equivalent of half a city block. There were trees down across the highway beyond that as far as the camera could see.
If they can't get in they can't report.

I've watched about a dozen of these videos, from small isolated areas to towns that had many buildings and ALL say they've never seen anything like this. It's like a year's worth of disaster videos all at once. And I've just seen a fraction of it.
I'm VERY SORRY for what people are going through, but at the same time thankful the weather isn't super hot or cold since many won't have AC or heat for a while.

I am disabled and been outside, all day, just listening to all the helicopters and planes headed to the mountains, no doubt coming to a landing spot near you -- and I don't care if it's the size of a postage stamp -- help is on the way, sweet friends!! 💔💔💔💔

THEY HAD NO WARNING! I grew up in East Tennessee. I live in Western NC, now. It's horrible 😢. I've given $ and volunteered. This storm is unprecedented. We don't have massive floods in the mountains. Well, we just did. Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse is already there. That's where I gave $ to and volunteered with. Choppers have been flying from here to Boone and Asheville, delivering supplies. Please give $$ to help. We weren't prepared for this and the dams overflowing and collapsing. We need your prayers, too! I just got power on today but MANY have no power and/or no homes, clothing, possessions, etc. But, we're Americans and Mountain Strong! We WILL bounce back but we need our fellow Americans help at this time.❤

Sadly, we must move away now from water and low country. Situating towns at the bottom of valleys just isn’t the way building will need to go in the future. Had the same problems with the Mississippi River all those years ago, and again in Europe a few years back. Get away from the river, and the flood basins everywhere.

Dude! This is near the continental divide! Most of it is around 3000 feet elevation. The hurricane didn’t go near the low country. And you don’t want to move away from water unless you want you and your livestock to die from kidney failure.

Adults know from other disasters that the President and Bice President don’t go to major disasters like this right away. Because it sucks too many resources providing security for them and their entourage and all the Secret Service, etc. we’ve seen this o er and over again, for example in hurricane aftermath in New Orleans, in the aftermath of major tornadoes and other huge disasters. They don’t go right away because it would hinder rescue and relief efforts and duck resources away from those efforts.

My preschool teacher and her son & wife owned the Mangalista Pig Farm/Glamping site in Waynesville, on the Pigeon River. In situations like this, we need to remember that search and rescue, and all first responders are human too - they are also overwhelmed and probably have their own personal tragedies going on, but they are out there trying to help everybody else. We need to all pitch in and help each other. Anyway we can. I realise this inland part of North Carolina has not been subject to storms like Florida and such, but our weather keeps getting more and more strange over the past decade or two places that have never been affected by anything have been destroyed - When are we going to wake up and start paying attention? Even those of us who are on Social Security. Can build some basic supplies to help ourselves. I say this out of heartbreak not judgement . You should have an absolute minimum of two weeks food and water at home. Basic first aid. An emergency bag ready to go at all times. Prayers for everyone dealing with this devastation💔
Gov. Kay Ivey is activating members of the Alabama National Guard to help with emergency efforts in North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
The 13-person team consists of 11 Airmen from around the state who serve as Alabama’s Fatality Search and Recovery Team (FSRT). The team also includes a chaplain and chaplain’s assistant. Additionally, Alabama has sent three Swift Water Rescue Teams with 1 Cadaver Dog team.

I feel sorry for them, too but the waters were already above the 1916 levels before this hurricane made landfall. Most of these people needed to leave. They had time. It’s wasn’t like a tornado where you sometimes only get 25 minutes warning. If that. It was a known risk. If you live in a narrow river valley in the mountains, it’s going to flood when you get this much rain. There’s no where for the water to go.

FEMA is usually the last on the scene. They show up to evaluate damage and minimize claims as much as possible. I'm sure there are many citizen organizations hearing up to bring what help they can.
FEMA is there. They’ve done things like set up 40 starlink satellite communication systems and are bringing in-20 more so each affected county should have one shortly and a lot of other stuff as well. FEMA efforts have been reported on. Don’t misinform people. If you can’t keep up, don’t comment.

I am in WNC, it has been days since the worst of the storm. No one knows what it is like unless you are on the ground here. Bodies of unidentified children washing up in creeks. Many bodies in trees after the waters receded. Residents are doing all we can but there is absolutely no government help here yet. I am grateful to be alive, but make no mistake… we are NOT okay.
