Probably THE single best footage I've seen of this disaster. Even with all the devastation, this is the most beautiful part of NC. Praying for all of the good folks affected. 🙏
I was in Lake Lure for the Flood of the Century in 09/071996. The bridge to Hendersonville/ Hwy 64 was damaged and redesigned at that point. Props to the engineers. So the hydrodynamic event was a week of rain & a storm cell spanning Hendersonville to Black Mountain. That vast span of high mountains funnels 50 miles of catch water from roughly 4000 ft elevation down to 1100 feet. The soil along that shelf is incredibly sandy. Very little clay. It didn’t hold for that event. This one dwarfs it. Just unfathomable amounts of water. And in 1996, there were no 60+ mph winds. Last, the Hickory Nut Gorge acts as a natural chimney. Warm air from the valley is sucked up through it amplifying wind .
Nice one Mark! If you have aerial footage of this area before Helene, a before/after video would be helpful for those of us not from this area to see just how dramatically everything has changed. Stay safe!
What a great documentary of what went on. You would never get this from our news channels but leave it to RUclips and people like yourself to show everyone what the devastation looks like and what slides look like as well.
Once again, you have given us a very different perspective. Even seeing the images, it's hard to wrap your brain around the reality of the devastation. Thanks for you efforts to keep us informed.
It is so crazy to stand at the church and look down the valley at all the destruction. Thank you for the footage from the air. It really puts into perspective the size and scope of damage.
@@butterflybeatles Oh I see what you two mean. Y’all remind me of the thief on the cross on Jesus left side. He said if you’re the Son of God, save yourself from the cross. The thief on the right said remember me. Jesus said to the thief on the right you will be with me in paradise. Bad things happen all the time on this planet. It’s how we respond that’s important. This life is not even a grain of sand compared to eternity. I’d rather lose everything here, and gain everything in eternity, than to gain everything here, and lose it all in eternity. Suffering here is nothing compared to the other side.

You have my respect with what you're doing brother and I'm sure alot of other people feel the same way.

Your channel popped up in my recommendations immediately after Helene and I immediately subscribed. Thank you so much for all of the effort you have put into finding a true picture of the situation in the Chimney Rock/Bat Cave/Lake Lure area. I feel like I know more truth than what is being portrayed in traditional media or from other RUclips channels who have not had actual boots on the ground interaction. Your information is invaluable. I especially loved the perspective from this particular post. Side bar- have you ever made it as far south as Travelers Rest, SC. Several times I have seen someone in a paramotor flying over. It is incredibly sad. But anyone who's being honest with themselves knows that there will be more of these storms. The central Atlantic east of the Gulf of Mexico was very warm in early May this year.... early May ! And water has much greater heat absorbtion capacity than air. It's due to the mounting warming of the Earth... due to increasing CO2 and methane concentrations in the atmosphere.... due to all of us. We're losing our coral reefs, we're losing our glaciers, we're losing the Arctic and Antarctic sea ice. And we have been seeing these changes (and others) for decades now. More lands around the planet are becoming dangerous to inhabit, many are becoming uninhabitable. This is where we ARE.
JD-zm4eh. Well being honest, THIS storm is ANOTHER ONE that happened! Whatever praying for “no more” bad storms that took place after the BAD one back in 1916…Helene IS another one, is the next BAD one!! I won’t be around but that makes TWO bad ones in the area within 108 years, and I would bet there will be more to come! No matter the human ideas on it. HOW were all the bulging-tops and crevices below and between made anyway…by WIND, RAIN, and RUNNING WATER!! Eh! Oh, and of course, gravity.
Thanks for your honest local view of the devastation and beauty in western North Carolina. I've traveled through there a number of times and love the beautiful scenery. I hope to be well next year to come visit and maybe help with the rebuild. At the least I want to explore the places that have had the most need for recovery and spend some time and what little money I have to enjoy the beautiful mountains. Your perspective along with other locals has been very eye opening and more touching than any MSM news report. Stay strong. Take care of your family and I'm praying for the economic recovery of this area. God bless you!

Hello Mark, I'm a new subscriber to your channel. First let me start by saying THANK YOU for your service. This video gives us viewers a clear viewing experience of what the damage is in NC. It also helps us understand if there are "boots on the ground" providing help. Your camera is so clear and so is your audio. I must admit NC mountains are beautiful, and I now understand why people would want to live there. I pray for those who lost their lives and for those who remain to rebuild their lives. God Bless you for doing this and encourage everyone to subscribe, like, and share. I am sharing this video on "X" THANK YOU!!! 🙏❤🤍💙
Your videos have been an overall benefit. They are--original, informative, high quality, and give local perspective. They are also respectful and try to be unbiased. Now, some people are going to question why you are doing a "recreational activity" in a time of crisis, or hiking into areas where the authorities want to limit travel. To this I say that you obviously know how to be self sufficient and take care of yourself so that you don't burden others. You also are likely familiar with how air traffic works and can stay safe and out of the way. Some are also skeptical of the influencer profit machine. To them I say that you happened to be a guy with video equipment and the skills to make high quality videos who was already on scene. If there were professional journalists there, you could cede reporting to them, but in the early days, there were not.
Thanks so much for these videos! We're over in Durham and sending lots of supplies from here. Calling All Knitters: hats, scarves, mittens needed for winter in WNC :)

Thank you so much for getting these images out. I think it's important that people see the reality of what's going on. Great job my friend.
It is so crazy to stand at the church and look down the valley at all the destruction. Thank you for the footage from the air. It really puts into perspective the size and scope of damage.
This was such an amazing event. Thank you for documenting this, Mark. Blessings to you and all the people recovering. God is STILL in control.
And we don't like what He is up to.
@@butterflybeatles not at all.
@@butterflybeatlesWhat do you mean?
@@DavidNicholson101 If He's in control why can't He do a better job?
@@butterflybeatles Oh I see what you two mean. Y’all remind me of the thief on the cross on Jesus left side. He said if you’re the Son of God, save yourself from the cross. The thief on the right said remember me. Jesus said to the thief on the right you will be with me in paradise. Bad things happen all the time on this planet. It’s how we respond that’s important. This life is not even a grain of sand compared to eternity. I’d rather lose everything here, and gain everything in eternity, than to gain everything here, and lose it all in eternity. Suffering here is nothing compared to the other side.
Thank you for sharing this,I have been all over that area since the 1970's,childhood friends moved to Asheville and we would go everywhere,it will never be the same for anyone,my heart goes out to everyone!!!
Thank you for your service. True example of supporting the community. Godspeed.
You're videos are REALLY needed to remind people what is STILL going on there. Now that Milton has devastated parts of Florida some people have a tendency to forget that there was a even worse disaster there with Helene and for sure the mainstream news outlets will focus on the latest storm. That's just how it ALWAYS is. I hope you keep documenting what is going on there so everyone is aware of what those effected are dealing with. You have my respect with what you're doing brother and I'm sure alot of other people feel the same way.
I would like to thank you for your documentation of this catastrophic natural disaster. This area, to me, has always been a place that I have enjoyed riding my motorcycle through and frequenting the various businesses. My heart hurts for you and all of those that have been affected by Helene. I am just blown away by the amount of destruction. Thank you again for sharing what your area and you are going through.
Nice to see someone put the flag at half staff in honor of those that passed. Prayers to all!
Love seeing your channel get the recognition and attention you deserve.
I hope it helps him with funds to recover from all this. When I found his channel right after Helene, he had 20 something thousand subs. Look at him go!!!
I've watched many hours of content. Yours has been the best. Thanks Mark.
It always makes me happy to see. Also thank you for your service in the military ❤️
Your eye in the sky and boots on the ground coverage have been very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos.
Thank you for doing this, very much appreciated. Thank you for your service also.
As a resistant of lake lure, thank you Mark. It’s truly unfathomable what happen here. Thank you for sharing our story with the world. Please don’t forget us and come visit when we open back up.
Thanks Mark for keeping us informed! Really cool how you went from 20,000 ish subs to 150k! Stay safe and God Bless!
Hello Mark. Thank you for showing the beautiful place we call home. We are strong together!!!
I am so thankful for all bringing help and showing the damage and where WNC needs help.
Mark, thank you for serving and flying blackhawks to rescue and serve the country. You have our gratitude. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Mark. Thank you for the "quiet" footage. It is very sobering. I have been watching paramotoring on and off for years, but never stumbled upon your channel until now. I even went back to some cross country videos; very nice content. 2 things: 1) There are no commercials (I hope you are getting paid for this work that you do), and 2)Thanks for serving, just be ready for the "hey Mark what was with the unmarked Blackhawk prop washing those Samaritan fellows?" questions... Praying for all involved.
1) So recently, I heard youtube decides whether or not a particular viewer will get to watch ads or not. Didn't know this.
2)I've gotten that one a lot. Here's the best answer I've found

@@MarkHuneycutt Thanks, you are a gentleman! As a former skydiver, and helicopter enthusiast, I think you would like my book, I would love to send you a copy...
I've really appreciated all your Hurricane Helene videos. Thank you for keeping us in touch with what's happening.
Great video man, I can hear the pain in your voice describing all the destruction. Thank you for documenting all of this it’s very meaningful. Please up the great work.
My husband has been falling you for many years, I ran across your videos of Helena hurricane. Glad to see you up and running again. Thank you for your service young man, thank you for sharing this video, so unreal.

Thanks for sharing Mark. My heart breaks for all those people effected by the hurricanes & flooding. Thanks for your service to our country as well.
That was awesome seeing it from the air!! Thanks Mark for sharing!! God bless. 🙏🏻❤️
Thank you for these videos. Watching network news coverage is painful and mostly useless.
Great footage! Definitely birds eye view!
You continue to furnish in-depth coverage of the damage from Helene. Thank you for your past service and thank you for keeping everyone up to date.
Thank you so much for this one!!!
Well done, “ Keep them Flying”!
My wife’s father was a DFC Recipient in World War II in the navy, he flew PBM Mariners
I'm from West Tennessee. Thank you for the best footage on the net of this devastation!!
Great update and flight. As I have said many times now…God Bless the victims and First Responders!
Thank you for posting this perspective. I’ve gone on aid runs up in the Garren Creek area over the last week and I posted a video about it from last Saturday and Sunday on SecretSquirrelOffroad. I think it helps for people to see this to take in the extent of the damage. Hopefully it’ll encourage people to continue to support this area and many others like it for a long time to come. This is not a short term need. Love the video. Amazing work!
THANK YOU BLESS YOU! SHARED THIS OUT.
This is the best footage I have seen so far, thank you. It's great that you pointed out landmarks and explained what we were viewing for a better understanding. Going to check out and share some donation links. People care, people want to help. Keep up the good work.
Great video and commentary. Thank you from TR!
Thanks again Mark. Absolutely incredible. So sad for all the loss and human souls. Pray no more storms like that one again.
@@9UaYXxB Yada Yada Yada. What corporation you work for? Solar power or wind turbine?
Glad you're okay. 🙏 Thank you for your Service🇺🇲 & your videos.
Thank you, Mark. I enjoyed each of your videos. Having driven through Lake Lure and Chimney Rock three times, it's sad to see what has happened. May God continue to help those affected.
You are a true American. Your videos rock! Keep up your good work and back here in Indiana we are praying for you good folks in NC. Last week a local group collected a bunch of items and drove them down there. They were welcomed and made to feel at home.
Thank you for reporting for us! Nothing beats “boots on the ground” - or in this case, in the air!
Casually gliding into a town. Wow 😮. Brave! So high up in the air. Praying for everyone hurt by these storms.
Great video. Thanks for the update!
God bless Mark ! Fly safe. Thanks for the visuals. I know that feeling in the pit of your stomach flying after all the destruction. on the coast here never had the guts to post most of the stuff post hurricanes. hat is off to you !
The amount of large rocks is unbelievable. Those definitely won’t be easy to move!
Absolutely love your videos. Mark, your delivery of information and calming voice is so welcomed in such devastating circumstances. The news need to take a page from your book. Thank you for your service to our country, I appreciate your letting us know that. Good military men have a unique intangible demeanor in common that is pleasing and comforting. Women that read this gets it.
Soo cool from the air, beautiful country! Praying for everyone!
Thanks for the new update Mark. Glad to have found your content.
It’s awesome seeing this. We are in Edneyville and watched you fly yesterday! Thank you for showing this for all of us.
Thank you for the video and especially your narration of your familiarity with this region. Prayers for all impacted by hurricane Helene. ❤
Glad to see you back in the air! AMAZING footage again.
I have no doubt this reached key people who can also help 🧡
Hi Mark.
I recently subscribed.
Your coverage is spot on. Real no nonsense.
These people will have YEARS to recover from this devastation 😢❤
Wow! Thank you for sharing all you have. It's so important to people who do not know the area. The imagery you share is so well done. I thank you so much for sharing your experiences. Along with your knowledge
I live close by and I appreciate you sharing the views. Just unbelievable. Every day different detours different roads and parts open and closed. Unbelievable how much damage.
Thank you for taking the time to do this. It looks different! So many people and businesses devastated 💔
I am so envious of you, I have always wanted to be a medic helicopter pilot. I am 60 now an to this day that is my only regret in life. Thank you for the footage the Magnificent footage. I am from Morganton, lived in Asheville in Biltmore Forest for 4 years then moved to Rutherfordton and lived 3 houses from the hospital for 13 years, I watched a lot of helicopters access the hospital pad during that time and it was always exciting. I now live in Hickory. Me and my husband have been looking to buy land in the areas surrounding Lake Lure up to Lake James. This Tragedy has not changed my Desire to live there and be a part of one of those wonderful communities. Be safe and happy flying.
Mother Nature certainly rearrange these areas incredible view from the air Mark Thanks for sharing
Amazing footage! Thank you-was raised in NC but live in NYC, so appreciate the bird’s eye view! Hope NC recovers in time-it’s been heartbreaking to watch.
That looks fun and terrifying at the same time. Thanks for the tour of what's happening up there.
This footage and commentary is just fantastic. Shows the beauty of the area as well as the aftermath of the disaster . Thank you. ❤
Hey, so I'm in Indiana and I've done some finger knitting projects before and would like to help if I can. Can you send me in the right direction? Thank you.
Wow! 😢
I had No idea this place even existed other than there town names but the beauty is out of this world!!!!
Thank you for showing us what happened to the towns
We all cry and pray for each of them❤
Great footage of the land! God bless all of you, be safe❤
