Just proves no matter where you live Mother Nature has something that can destroy you.
I live on the coast in the Florida panhandle where Hurricanes are a danger, you live in California where earthquakes and wildfires are a danger, and these people live in mountainous river valleys where flooding is the danger. Some areas of the country face devastating tornadoes.
      Why do we all rebuild?
      Because it is our home.

I learned long ago, as a Californian myself, to never judge others for where they live. We may not have hurricanes, but we have mass flooding, land/rock slides, earthquakes, wildfires, and on a Sh*t day soon, volcanic eruptions. Hell, a damn tornado touched down in Fresno, CA this year! For the unaware, that's as weird as an iceburg in the Mississippi! Try to position yourself in a good area, prepare, have back-up plans, insurances, etc. Then pray, help others, and rebuild!

I build homes but in Alaska. We build for earthquakes here and all our homes have structural metal strapping as well as bolted to the concrete with what is caused a J-bolt.
Our homes can't just lift off and float off the concrete foundation.
I wonder if they do the same in the lower 48?
      I'm thinking not??
      I don't know.
      Either way, this is tragic.
