    When I worked part-time at GW the manager taught me the Four-F's for teaching intro games: keep them Fast, Fun, Furious, and if you ever forget a stat it's a Four-plus. The "Peach-Hammer" approach works surprisingly well for keeping things moving.

  • @Smilomaniac
    @Smilomaniac Год назад +3

    What left an impression on me was Peachy talking about his father in a GW interview and how he switched to drybrushing due to getting tremors/shaky hands.
    For me the “best” painters aren’t who can do the most precise or advanced paint job, but who can get the best result with the least amount of effort and time.
    Style, for me, always wins over meticulous detail. Thematic schemes like painting your army like living stone, wood or metal statues or playing with light and almost only using an airbrush, those are to me inspiring armies.
    With the influx of hobby painters from 8th/9th we’ve encountered a new issue, that high level paint jobs have become the standard and it puts people down.
    I think the future in teaching how to paint is to explain how to learn and how to think, to find your purpose and goal with what you’re doing, rather than mimic and copy.
    Happy hobbying.

    • @Smilomaniac
      @Smilomaniac Год назад +1

      @@thepaintingphase It was a great story.
      You probably don't know, but undoubtedly many others like me sat and listened intently along, hearing what it meant for you, how it in part shaped you as a person and how your dad adapted so he could keep painting.
      It turned my viewpoint on the whole thing around, it snapped me out of that "everything has to be 'eavy metal to be good" mentality and to try and seek out painting in ways that I enjoy.
      I used to heavily dislike painting, to get it over with, but a few key steps has turned me around on it and I can find peace in it.
      Thank you Peachy.

    The discussion of getting an army painted versus painting to a high standard was so good! Setting reasonable expectations is key imo. Also, the discussion of how a high standard painter is perceived and reminding yourself that, typically, high standard painters are painting as job means they have the convenience devoting more time to the craft. Great stuff!

    10:09 - I had to listen twice as the first time I heard "back wankers" and my mind went straight to the poor guardsmen! Great chat, very interesting to listen to Peachey's Origin story ;)!

    Great to see Peachy on camera, some feedback on the setup. The box light right at the top of frame makes everything very washed out and looks really over-glaring. I imagine this is for the on-face shots instead of the main table shot, but you seriously need to raise that light out of shot it's really distracting chaps.
    Even on the shots where you go in on peachy, it's _too much_ light. You really just need that taking upwards a bit.
    Other than that great interview :)

      @@thepaintingphase awesome! Bit of a random question, but what’s your varnish process like? I just finished a couple companies of British and I want to make sure they’re protected without killing the color. My prior process has been a couple thin coats of Vallejo matte varnish through an airbrush, but I’ve had some mixed results (maybe user error though).
