    Fun fact: The bug oil being called element 710 is a nod to an old car parts joke.
    People would come into the shop asking for "710 oil" because on their oil cap it said 710. They unfortunately didn't realise that 710 is just OIL upsidedown.

    • @robonator2945
      @robonator2945 10 месяцев назад +78

      given 710, I'm inclined to believe the bugs might not have any circulatory system at all. Humans process crude oil to create gasoline to power cars; we put gasoline in trucks and cars to setup pumps that pull the raw resource out of the ground, we bring it to heavy industry that processes it into a hyper-energy-dense form, we put that gasoline into trucks and cars to setup pumps that pull the raw resource out of the ground. If 710 is as energy dense as we're led to believe, the drones and guards that we fight might not 'eat' or 'breathe' much at all, since they might just use 710 as 'fuel' that just sorta moves through their cells via osmosis or other extremely slow "it'll get there eventually" processes. If the workers/drones just collect food/resources, bring it back to the hive, some other bug higher in the caste system processes it and turns it into 710, the workers/drones 'eat' that and run off of 710, it'd explain a lot of what we see.
      For instance, we know they don't have a closed circulatory system because you can blow off any part of them (even the head) and they'll be fine, unlike a human or any other animal which will very rather quickly bleed out. (they could have some instant-cauterization thing going on, but frankly that just seems a bit of a jump) We can reasonably infer they don't have any central processing organ like a brain since we can blow off their heads and they'll still be fine. (granted maybe they have some internal brain or something, it seems unlikely but I can't imagine any reason why it'd actually be impossible) We also know they reproduce rapidly and can sustain insanely large populations despite having no clear industry or technology. We also know they must have some extremely potent way of powering their bodies since, well, they get fucking massive. We also know they are hive-based insects with clear subspecies and a caste system. We also know they, for some reason, produce a substance with an energy density so high it can power space ships. So, putting the pieces together, it seems fairly obvious *_why_* they're producing 710. If they have a specialized sub-species that lives to produce 710 with it's hyper-energy-density than the workers/drones wouldn't actually need a 'circulatory system' as we think about it. A circulatory system is necessary for us because metabolism needs to be happening *_constantly_* and needs constant reoxygenation to occur, but if our bodies ran off of a substance energy dense enough to drive space ships, would we *_need_* to actively circulate it around? No, probably not - you're body would use so little of it that you just wouldn't need to actively push it around, so long as it got everywhere eventually, you'd be fine. So, you wouldn't need any circulatory system at all, I could poke holes in you, blow off limbs, etc. and you would never bleed out because, what blood? (well, I mean they probably would have some form of 'blood', but it just wouldn't be moving around all that much and certainly wouldn't be pressurized with a 4-chamber 2-stage organic pump that pushes it around constantly, including out of your own body.)

    A bit of lore about the automatons, one of the crew members on the ship in HD2 will say that the cyborgs are in a mining "re-education camp" on Cyberstan, and its theorized that the automatons are moving there to free them. "Once the Automatons get to Cyberstan" The Automatons are not reaching that anytime soon.
    Also, the automatons are harvesting humans, you can check out dumpsters of human parts where the human heads are all stiched, implying that they either took the human brain out, or needed to torture them.
    Either Automatons need human parts for their effort, or they're a faction that requires 0 sympathy as they are just sadists.
    Also, the game released armor that resists Arc Damage by 95%, implying that we'll need it.
    Wish they'd make capes and helmets have passive effects, doesn't make any logical sense why a cape isn't flame retardent, or why some helmets won't be equiped with better breathing apparatus' for increased stamina regen, or scanners to help see in dense fog. we know the automatons aren't all mechanical and machine, all of them, even their tanks, have exposed skulls that are a weak spot. Since they are descendants of the cyborgs, it can be assumed that their skulls are a weak spot because they still use their brains and haven't switched over to processors. Also their oil is a little bit too red to just be oil. Likely they extract human skulls, brainwash them, or somehow basically flash a different consciousness into the brain, and integrate them into the machines.

  • @ridleydidnothingwrong
    @ridleydidnothingwrong 10 месяцев назад +292

    A bit more context on the first contact part.
    Super earth didnt know they produced oil until we were already knee deep in dead bugs. They initially wanted their planets using the justification that they'd mindlessly expand even to our colonies if we didn't stop them. These planets they were on were rich in oil and we didn't know the bugs were responsible for it until we started blasting them back to their homeworld. The only reason we didn't wipe them out completely was because they produced the oil.
    The bugs were found on multiple planets when we made first contact with them so they got their own way of traveling from system to system.

    in helldivers 1 you can fight enemies called hivelords responsible for creating the vast underground terminid nest structures, and potential propagating them ( though after the brood commander's presence and activity it is possible command of Terminids or at least coordination is not top down with myriad 'sub command' bugs or 'nobility' if using the queen analogy ). you can actually see the lithofied remains of Terminid Hivelord exoskeletons on numerous bug maps, particualrly around large hive structures ( egg hunt missions will likely help you find them the most ) though whether hivelords have been exterminated decapitating the bug threat or if they've merely been evolved out over the last century is unclear.
    another thing of note is the unarmored spewers are called nursing spewers ( text learned from dying to them ) and are often accompanied by numerous smaller bugs which could hint at decentralized reproduction - particularly with surface borne egg clusters. i believe yellow crazy ants and some species of fire ant (and in theory trapjaw ants ) engage in a somewhat similar behavior with decentralized numerous reproducers.
    my one big thing i'd love to see you analyze Roanoke is the similarity of helldivers 1 bugs ( the game has an enemy bestiary which can help ) to earth crustaceans - the hivelord resembled a bobbit worm !- and the potential evolutionary implications of then and now.
    as someone whose been digging into helldivers lore since the first game i'd love to talk more on the topic ! as while the sources and evidence is scarce it is still there !

    One note about the Cyborgs and the automatons. We need to take it with a grain of salt, but the crew members, talk about the Cyborgs as having been trapped in the mines of Cyberstan for 100 years, being 'rehabilitated' after they lost the war in the first game. There is also a binary message that the helldivers 2 twitter dropped prior to the launch of the game, that when translated declares that their children the automatons, will not suffer oppression. So, odds are. The cyborgs at some point during the war, figured they would lose the war and started prepping the 'next' generation. Their children, to be able to have the tools they didn't to succeed in independence. This also lines up with why the automaton's are heading to Cyberstan, to save their forefathers.

    It is also possible, that instead of being eusocial insects, they may actually be more like most cockroach species and be social, but not have a queen. Cockroaches use aggregation pheromones to stay clumped together. Many types of insects are social, but are not eusocial. (like ants, termites, honey bees) Having a level of higher intelligence like we're claiming, could actually mean that they are more than likely not following a "hive mind" like activity, and are more than likely just clumping into groups, because they have the same goals of eating a reproducing. This may explain why they have eggs on multiple planets, and there has been no sign of a queen. The different types of terminids could suggest that they have castes, which would point more towards eusocial though. Im typing this from my pest control office on break. Im not an entomologist so please dont yell at me.

My head canon is that there is an unseen variant of terminid that can biologically jump between systems. I also think there bust be a specialized digging terminid (possibly chargers) to construct the underground bug tunnel network, because the pointy limbs of most terminids seem poorly adapted for digging.

    I know this is the Nid video but a slightly worrying thing on the Automatons.
    They have literal crates of human bodies outside most of their fabricator outposts, if not straight up cages with some humans still (dead) inside.
    I genuinely think those bodies are what's being processed, alive or dead, into the Automatons. A human brain in a metal shell, Cyberman style. .. which might mean we're fighting our own brothers and sisters, our own fallen heroes of war.

      Keep track of game chat at time of death, and that's what you hear as they approach you. You and your friends/random teammates voices haha

    Hd1 had something called a hive lord but we have already know hive lords will return from a q&a with the devs. We will face more bugs later on and same with bots and probably with illumate. Gotta add this edit another thing if you haven't read some of the notes in game one states they recently discovered that the bugs where somehow laying eggs and sticking them into human ships and hatch than spread without people noticing. I like the illumate theory but my theroy is humanity started it again because they needed a reason for war. Helldivers after the first galactic war hated their jobs and moral was low. Imagine coming home eager to liberate and destroy than becoming a crossing guard or something and with low crime rates. Super earth purposely let the hive rebuild and escape so they can rearm and instill hope and inspire more people to become citizens. Also c1-0 permit for all Helldivers and citizens 🙃.

    To seal the deal on the atmospheric compatibility, you can find both SEAF and colonist bodies, as well as the living colonists you can extract as part of the missions on the Terminid front, none of which sport any sort of respirators.
    Also please do a video for the Automatons, you can use it as an excuse to cover how that technological transcendence might have played out because I'd love to hear your thoughts about that in particular.

    I always figured that the way the bugs were “planet hopping” was that they weren’t, like Super Earth put the Termanids in farms on those planets and just didn’t tell us so when they break out it looks like they’re planet hopping.

    I think hive minded species like these have to be among my favorites in the sci fi multiverse. From the flood in halo to the tyranids in warhammer 40K. Quality of quantity really is a fun strategy to play with. Good old fashioned mind over fire power never hurts either.

    I like the idea of humanities hubris is all their enemies teaming up and are coordinating efforts. The bug’s aggression could also come from the fact that primarily warrior castes are the ones at the farms and not more passive castes.
    Then again the bugs could’ve gotten the taste for humans and want all the freedom for themselves

    You mentioned breathable air and how the helmet may be the reason for oxygen supply however because it was a colony, it's safe to assume the residents were not always wearing helmets. Pay attention to the next extraction mission you play. The people running to safety are not wearing helmets. They can breath the planets air.
