The bugs not knowing where Earth is located kind of lends credence to the fan theory that the asteroid attack in the first film was a false flag committed by the Federation to start a war. As if the bugs were responsible, why would they need to find the location of a planet they'd already attacked? It doesn't make any sense unless they were not responsible for that attack and are defending themselves.

I’m not seeing as literally everywhere is the front line for the mobile infantry, what I find funny is the interchanging of enlisted ranks and officer ranks. Yes I’m aware that in earlier conflicts most notably WW1 you would have Sgt’s and Staff Sgt’s being promoted to Lt and the like due to the same sort of casualty rate as depicted in the movie.

I agree. Though, eight years might have felt like an eternity with the amount of combat operations he must have taken part in. He could have fought across the galaxy with a invading or defending a new planet each month. To even have the mental capacity he shows in this movie is insane. He should lead the Federations Special Operations Command as his ability to not die would continue to be useful.

You're wrong about Federation psychics. They can't just read, they definitely can write as well. Carl is heavily implied in the first movie to have guided Rico to Carmen. Then, in Traitor of Mars (an absolutely terrible, yet nonetheless entertaining CGI movie that reunited the entire original cast), Carl communicates with a gravely injured Rico telepathically under the guise of Dizzy to motivate him to fight on. It is hilariously awkward given they even kissed.

If you remember from the first Starship Troopers movie, the Federation has always been open about how their wars are going. Heck the first Sky Marshall even lost his job due to the fuckup on Klendathu. In the books, the Federation has always been extremely meritocratic, you only get ahead by proving you are the best and that you deserve the leadership position. Any mess up or lack of judgement can doom a person and end a career real quick because at higher levels that can kill many people. That is why I enjoyed the book so much, it shows the best of a meritocracy in action.

  • @blu12gaming44
    @blu12gaming44 2 года назад +11

I think this could also shed light on why Humanity is more technologically advanced than the Arachnids. Since the nature of the bugs caused them to eradicate all life, and therefore competition, on planets while establishing a Hive Mind: there was no need to technologically advance. As opposed to Humans who, being individually independent, needed to technologically advance in order to compete with other individuals.
That seems to be a recurring theme in nature: competition creates evolutionary pressures to advance species. If there is no competition: species will more or less stagnate until a new force comes in (and typically wipes out the natives). This can be seen not only between humans but ecosystems in general.

And how does a species evolve to have such diversity within the species. Also how is it they are seemingly able to direct their own evolution, as we see new kinds of bugs as they adapt to fighting people. Like The new brain replacing bugs in 2. You covered this nicely. However, that quantum event disruption, that needed not to happen in real-time. It could have been a plot point dropped like an ancient Vieatnameese sapper leaving a trap for a superiorly armed invader. It could have been planned easily as something to disrupt the energies allowing such FTL travel in the course of that ship. Also, the brain bug sucking out the brain to get all or at least most of the information... not such an absurd notion. The bug could have scanned the brains' physical structure, maybe gleaned the thoughts, used that to inject the little brain spike, sucked it out, then had its body patch it together just long enough to learn all it needs for the short time it could simulate it still being in its original brain box. As for their "ravaged" worlds, I still stick to my original theory... they are not actually ravaged, they are just altered to have their entire ecosystem based upon their biology... so if you kill off a bug world's bugs, you also kill off the only ecosystem it had at that point. They assimilate planets entirely... Star Trek's Borg before Star Trek's Borg were imagined. Only, instead of assimilating individuals, they are all consumed... and the planets themselves are assimilated. Those "ruined" worlds are actually just perfectly assimilated into the Bugs' expanding empire... and will only be ruined by killing them off.
There are no good guys here, so don't think I'm pro-bug. I'm just saying that humans probably provoked all this and probably faked their "bug meteor" thing... it being a human meteor... to justify the war with the warmongers expecting an easy sweep-n-clear of indigenous life on alien planets that humans can survive on or at least terraform. The bugs probably had less provocative and far better long-game plans before being provoked. For that species to have developed to that level, if mere evolution was involved, they might be one of the first life forms to evolve in the universe one of the first worlds that could support life like ours. Otherwise, they could have been biologically engineered by one of the first species to discover star travel with the blowback being them becoming like we fear AI could become ("the singularity").

There is something to that. In the latest movie in the movie continuity, while Johnny can't directly understand Jenkins's psychic projections, he can understand them when Jenkins uses Dizzy as an avatar. Meanwhile, Carmen can very directly speak and understand Jenkins. Apparently, while receptive to it, Johnny is a bit stubborn and unable to fully process this psychic communication compared to Carmen.

I think you Roanoke severly misunderstands how the federation works in that setup - They cant force you into a meat grinder - you have to volunter for service first (there was no compulsory draft) and you can leave that service almost at any time (but that would have a price tag as it would mean forfeitting anything you were to gain from completening the service). That said they were prone to serious miscalculations that later on did lead to masacres - but it wasnt like they knew it will be a masacre and told you to go anyway. (aka deliberately trying to get you killed). If anything they were fairly often underestimating the enemy but that's it.
Authoritartian federation wouldnt allow the colonist to set on bug planets - instead they warned them that it was probably suicidal but even then they didnt stop the colonist from actually coming there anyway. Meaning the freedoms were highly upheld and the militatry didnt encrouch on civilan rights - and that aint how authoritarian govs work in reality. in a truly authoritarian rule if the gov says jump - you ask how high and in that universe a civi could easly say to them to bug off (pun intended) and he was free to do so. That said if you did join the military you were expected to follow orders in a very strict manner - so it could get harsh or brutal but still you could resign and leave without any repercussions but as long as you were in the military the dissent within the ranks would NOT be tolerated and was often brutaly supressed - especialy under combat conditions.
For eg a truly authoritarian rule would not spill the beans about the masacres but they would hush them via censroship instead what we saw was nearly full access of the press both even to the battlefields themselves and later on full disclosures and taking responisiblity for failures - another thing very anathematical to a true authoritarian rule.
That said the writter of the third movie seemed to completely ignore most of this and still went deliberately to show the miliatary to be something they were not. But hey - creative freedom i guess. Especially when they linked military with faith and showed the military as overbearing on the civlians.
On top of that many aspects of that movies were made deliberately to be silly (for comedic purposes) like that new advanced weapon - a shovel :P Or that a Marshall of the entire army was also a "pop" star xD

In the beginning of the first movie Carl tells his ferret to go bug mom and he said he gave it the impression there's a bug on her leg. Is that an example of him putting information another creatures brain?

34:25 Actually Karl was working on putting thoughts into peoples' heads early on in the first movie. He was already able to push thoughts into his Ferrett, Cyrano.

This reminded me of a national geographic show showing how sharks such as hammerhead sharks feel and use magnetic pulses from underwater volcanoes to guide them to their spawning grounds

Starship Troopers 3 is incredibly underrated. Obviously not as good a movie as 1997 due to lack of Vehoven, but the writer Ed Neumeier worked on all 3 movies and it captured the overall energy really well while exploring how a secular dystopian militarist future might (re)acquire the theocracy dlc.
