WAS IT THE GRE? The ALIEN VIRUS That DESTROYED Humanity In Dying Light 2

- Look, I dont want to make waves or anything, but it really was aliens. In the events of Dying Light 2, Humanity would be absolutely BESIGED By a disease that would result in something known as "The Fall". With our species knocked on its heels, 98% of us would drop. But a question remains, was it really the GRE or was it something more? Today, lets discuss that concept as well as how this virus was so successful in the Homo sapiens population!

The more reasonable origin would be the fake olympics being held in Harran the year of the game’s setting. ‘The Global Athletics Games’ was set to take place in the city which meant bringing people from all over the world to Harran. In fact, one of the quarantine zones in Old Town is a hotel and it is suggested that it was ground zero for the infection
he also says children are immune and they most certainly are not given the screamers in DL1
@Shizn0id this video is about the evolved virus from the second game not the hk virus from 1 so yes in the case of DYING LIGHT 2 there is no infected children
@@scvrlett18 absence of proof isn't the proof of absence, they barely got away with screamers in dl1, killing kids causes problems for devs and publishers trying to release a game.
@liamzakhaev the world premiere of dead island begs to differ. It's still recognized as one of the best trailers to date and it's whole premise was a child dying and eating her family
Actually, you are all absolutely right. that trailer is one of the best trailers and it does show a young ling doing some very horrible things. what the other guys are talking about is the legal teams for these developer groups. Unfortunately, to handle the amount of money and employees that are required to create a game also entails creating a company. Companies can be held liable for things that single individuals cannot. That being said, if you read it the legal team with people who didn't care, there is a good chance that any lawsuits about the presentation of young death That the sensitive ones are worried about Would simply fall through as it is a fictitious setting. We do not have a real horran virus, And therefore any lawsuits attempting to attack a company that includes descriptions of violence such as the dying light team Would simply be pointless.
TLDR, Game companies try to avoid liability, that is what impacts the game. There should absolutely be dead pre-adults. But game companies are chicken.
I know I might sound like a nerd, but in the first Dying Light, there were zombie children that would scream, like a child version of the howler in Dying Light 2.

Have you considered neutron based nuclear weapons?
I may be mistaken but I don't think Volatiles are a "natural" progression in the mutation phases. What I mean is that I belive they are created in a means of conversion rather than being a side path from viral to biter. There was a mission in The Following where we find a missing man who was taken by the infected and brought into the hive and was screaming and begging for us to kill him (He was already in Volatile form). I think that Volatiles purposely drag certain people away based on unknown specifications to be converted or alternatively used as fuel for the feeding grounds. Would explain why the Volatile nests exist and why we see Volatiles seemingly being "born" from the still flesh strapped down victims mid transformation. Might be something worth looking into. Honestly if this is true (Which I think it is) then this gives far more horror to the volatiles considering that they have the intelligence- or in the very least smart instinct to choose who to kill vs who to spare only for conversion. I imagine this is what the Alpha/Darker Volatiles would be in charge of given their ability to not be fooled by the gore camo and increased strength and recognition.
I was just thinking about that mission myself and I'm definitely in the "Volatiles are conversions" camp.
This would make a lot of sense tbh
Mostly a solid theory, however i believe it was established that the canon ending is where you disarm the nuke and escape Harran and it shows you turned into a volatile. Besides that the theory makes a lot of sense. Since the virus is bloodborne and you spend a lot of time shooting and clearing the nests, maybe volatiles are more like an origin point and the result of the mutations depends on individual factors
@@nickvanzwaemen4907 I remember thinking the world would've been fine if Crane just accepted the Mothers path. Turns out she was right the whole time lol.
@@nickvanzwaemen4907 Huh? I never mentioned any of the endings in my message. All I talked about regarding The Following was that one specific side quest- not the main story or endings.

Before I started watching this channel, I had no idea how much thought games like this put into their illnesses, diseases and anatomy. It's really quite impressive and adds more appreciation for the games that do their homework.
Because of how “tachyon” is used in sci fi settings, I just figured the virus had a time travel aspect and the children just didn’t exist at the moment for the virus to reach them.
video game disease coverage is some of my favorite content from you
You know, it's quite interesting how DL2:SH clarified the evolution of the Infected. Everyone is destined to at first become a Viral and then a Volatile so long as they minimize exposure to UV radiation, quite the difference from how you originally theorized Volatiles come about. Meanwhile, Walkers come about due to prolonged exposure to UV radiation weakening Virals, whereas special chemical exposure creates the other Infected sub-types.
While the modified virus could very well be an alien inside job, I still find it hard to believe the original outbreak was caused by crashed alien ship. Like if it was planned why crash the ship, and if it was an accident what are the chances that the virus would be able to cross species that are not even from the same planet? But anyway, nice video and I’m once again asking if you can look into the Moonscorching from the second Fear and Hunger game.
I mean, in the end it is a videogame mate
I mean it worked in John Carpenter’s The Thing…
I think what was on the ship was just a mutagen that they ended up using on rabies and some other disease which caused it to mutate drastically. That's why it causes the virus to progress so much and change when infected people come into contact with that blue stuff (crane, the mother). The gen mod was just a diluted version of both that GRE played with and causes further mutations
The release of the virus in dying light 2 was complete accident and the GRE tried immediate action to contain the outbreak the virus broke out of Level 4 GRE containment as the outbreak went on it was said that the GRE had came up with a new compound called THV GenMod that could destroy infected cells that seems like a lot of research into somthing to stop a apocalypse they started
@@oroboros88its just a fun easter egg, its not alien
I wonder if the cytokine response originated to save the other people in the family, back when we were dwelling in caves. Kind of jumping on the grenade to save everyone else type of deal.

Came here for alien, left with microbiology lesson.
Welcome to the club, just wait til you get the lessons you missed from your parents.
There was a whole quest in DL1 that said the virus came from aliens. I guess he wasn't crazy after all.
there is no canonical source for the original Harran virus at the moment,
some say it came from the mole mans (volatile like creatures that some conspiracy dudes were talked about during the early stages of the outbreak but that could have just been actual volatiles and the infection is older that it first appeared),
some say it was a leak from a lab or a B.O.W test gone too right other say it was aliens or meteor spores from space,
in DL 2 the GRE tried to make a B.O.W from the original H-Virus by making it bypass the old vacine and ended up destroying the world in the prosses.
damn my reply was hidden by youpoop
Neat one of the things I missed was the amount of people that simply died I for some reason thought there were billions of infected which is terrifying
I assumed the same. When the game referred to then as dead, I assumed that implied turned as well.
please do a video on vampyr game on how the pure vampires blood becomes weaker when infecting more people they turn into Skals. also how skals feeding ways completely changing to where they can feed of peoples flesh instead of the purer vampires can only drink blood. it would also be interesting to know how there are different branches of the vampire blood like how one branch makes people look like werewolfs
The Vm infection has changed over time.

However, in the old town in Dying Light 1, there were "Screamers" kids and babies that were infected. In Dying Light 2, there are notes to be found about the mutation of the screamer from Haran but no mention of the name and what they look like. Perhaps Dying Light 3 with Spike at the forefront.
Appreciate these Roanoke - always a pleasure to lend an ear/eye to.

Great episode, I really like the dying light games. Hope to see more videos on the infected variations and even super humans seen in dying light 2. Take care!
Nice wanted to see this game, like how you talked about the first dying light
In dying light there is a mission about a guy who thinks it's from space and makes you search a meteorite that landed in old Town that glows under uv saying the GRE were all over it when it crashed or the local authorities were I don't remember but same with the ship it hints that it is from space and just like volatiles has a reaction to uv light from the sun
I thought the guy was supposed to be a crackpot, considering the gun you get is useless.

I don't know if you already covered this but it could increase your love with anglerfish if you think about it, what do you think about the variant of the T virus from Resident Evil that was banned from the black market because it can infect the water and fish so half the world would be infected if it was released, even humans can be infected, it transforms fish into monsters so imagine a anglerfish infected with the Abyss
all T virus variants are water born and can infect massive bodies of water dude... what are you talking about? if you are talking about the T-Abyss it was made with a mutagenic deep sea virus as it base and had it effects boosted by combining it with T virus samples later on.
Imagine an infected orca, a dolphin maybe? Those things are totally murderous normally.

Yes Roanoke covering Dying Light 2! Exciting :D
See, with all that u said in this video, I'm curious to hear ur take on Adian and Walts' unique infection powers and how they maintained their consciousness long after initial infection
There's probably no scientifically reasonable explanation to it, it's rather an ingame thing to spice things up. A regular disease, even a zombie disease, could not really turn you into a "super human", since that defies most if not all normal biology.
Not every part of these games is 100% scientifically plausible. Parts of em are just gameplay to make things more interesting.
You are so smart! I learn n enjoy the vids.
Good to hear about how it started in the background as I hunt Volatiles for upgrading my weapons [New Game+].
Strangely enough, I feel like dodging RUclips’s naughty words has made you more unique to listen to. No one on RUclips talks quite like you lol it’s cool

Oh bro what, so hype youre covering this IP
Loved this video! Roanoke you had mentioned something along the lines of "How does rabies know to travel through saliva" and "how does a tree know to make flowers which mimic the appearance of a bird to ward off predatory insects". VERY thought provoking concept, personally I look at it not as the organisms are consciously making adaptations but rather that they are subjected to selection pressure over the course of millions.....and millions of years. In the example of the tree, millions of years ago its flowers probably didn't look anything like a bird. But over many years mutations occur with the beneficial ones being passed on, in this case ones which warded off insects. Maybe it took 1 million years for the flower to start having the shape of a bird and another 1 million years for it to have the colors of a bird. So in a nutshell what I am saying is that the flowers didn't look like birds to start out but were molded into a bird like appearance by selection pressure over many years.
I literally JUST started playing through this again last night, funny coincidence. Keep up the good work Roanoke 😄

The balance between exposure and non-exposure is tedious, because if we overly-prevent exposure we'll end up as immunocompromised as the quarians of Mass Effect. It ultimately harms the immune system more than helps anyone, so everything in moderation.
I been waiting for this video for a long time
No one explains game lore no other than Roanoke, but mostly MatPat is still unbeatable
I love when ya cover dying light, still waiting on the bolter tho, its probably the most unique variant of infected seeing as how it runs away, which is odd for rabies
I have always pondered if the goal of a virus is to spread and rise in numbers of itself wouldn’t it be more beneficial to not kill the species that it needs to survive. I mean eventually it could adapt to a zoonotic virus but how likely is that and what would have to happen for that to be successful?
Viruses are incredibly interesting I always wanted to specialize in them. Life can change plans in an instant. At least I have channels like yours to feed my curiosity. I would love any reading recommendations you might have on the subject.

+Roanoke Gaming - I have a feeling you'll enjoy the movie Mayhem. It's about a virus that induces murderous impulses within people while retaining their memories and their understanding of social hierarchy. For instance, if you are infected, you'll probably curb-stomp the guy who backstabbed you for a promotion, but you wouldn't attack the friendly barista who always remembers how you like your coffee.
