- I cut a 30-minute version out of tons of making-of material. So a "making of SUPERMAN THE MOVIE" with only 30 minutes running time. I concentrated on the special effects of that time which were trend-setting for the film industry. Richard Donner opened the door to the superhero genre at a time when no one had even thought of it.
One of the greatest movies of all time
RIP Christopher Reeves you will always be Superman
He was a hero onscreen and in real life.
Reeve
@@stephenmiller2337Did you mean, "He was a super man, and on screen, too."
I still get chills from these sequences. When Chris looks left and right and then smiles .. all is right in the world. Magic. Donner did it.
The score is legendary!
The special effects were better in this masterpiece 45 years ago than most of the crap out nowadays. Remarkable.
Yes I agree. These movies from the past are classics.👍 Nowadays IDK? 🙄
It's really incredible what movies like this and the original Star Wars trilogy were able to accomplish back then without the existence of CGI, and in many cases it actually looked BETTER!
The signature smile sign-off in low earth orbit as Supes by Reeve is unbeatable.
The Reeve take-offs and landings are unmatched.
Everything worked and came together so well, the acting, the effects, the sets, the music and of course Christopher Reeve
I want to go back and relive the moment I first saw Superman. Seeing this man as Superman was what my childhood brain always thought it would be. Christopher Reeve as Superman, will always be sketched into my childhood memories. He played Superman so well, not once did my brain consider him or his simple disguise to not be Superman. Even to this day. Rip Christopher Reeve. Thank you for being the Superman we will always remember.
this is exactly how I felt when my i went with my dad to the theatre to see the first superman movie. he was engraved so deeply in me that I still adore him and whenever I see these excellent movies, he still gives me a sense of security, your words are exactly my own experience. now i show Reeve to my three year old son and he is also enchanted.
its sad that both christopher and margo are now no longer w/ us
The scene where Lane dies in the car and he screams flying to the sky. That was epic.
That was a good scene you could see the anger in his eyes.
That scene scared me lol 😅
Reeve was the greatest actor to ever played superman. That anger scene is amazing, you feel that with him
This will always be a real life story of Superman in my mind! Not a movie. When I watch Christopher Reeve play this character it’s such a childhood memory. It can’t be beat! He is Superman!
And to think when he was being rigged for the flying scene's that he controlled his body like if he was a real Superman, the take off, while flying and when landing, I tell you this, it looked more realistic with the minimal technology of the 70's than the current batch of movies that we know is CGI.
Growing up watching Superman was exciting! My imagination was working for this movie and he really existed on tv as the real story of Superman and how he grew up and how great he was!! To this day when I rewatch Superman the music and sound effects give me chills like my mind remembers this hero and has the childhood memories being brought back to life!! It's still very powerful to watch for me. When I found the Richard Donner version of Pt2 like 15 years ago I froze in the store... i grabbed it and went home and watched it right away!!! That was a great day like this movie was reborn and I wasn't used to it but it was great and I love it!!! RIP SUPERMAN. me and my brother (rip) grew up inspired by your movies!!!
Timeless classic ❤
Awesome….without Christopher Reeve, Superman wouldn’t have been Superman, he made the whole movie a success….and yes, I believed he/Superman could fly..😘🥰… and the special effects were amazing, beautiful within the art work. For me this version and film of Superman will always be my favorite, especially with Chris Reeve as Superman, Chris portrayed the character outstandingly and with the emotional caring only Superman could have done. Chris was Superman in the film and a great Superman in real life, especially after his accident. He never gave up hope and never lost his love for life. His courage, determination and caring about others was his greatest strength. RIP Chris, may your courage and strength inspire others. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I miss him! ❤
The special effects made the movies for me, but Christopher did excellent, excellent work. His ballet skills helped make the flying scenes so believable. Helen Slater, her stunt double and both 80's Superboy actors were all just as good. I can't say the same for productions that came after.
I was born in ‘78 and I remember with the sequel, I would tie my “blankee” around my neck and pretend to fly. Christopher Reeve really gave me butterflies.
The production value is so high. It's like watching a professional show.
All honesty even to this day you will not remember that Marlon Brando was in this Movie Reeves stole the show and MADE THIS MOVIE WHAT IT IS TILL THIS DAY
You do know that Reeves played the main character in the film, the entire film was about him and the film title is his name, do you? He didn't exactly steal the show.
@@markfox1545 so what's your point ???
WHY DIDD YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAD TO RESPOND TO THIS...WHY MARK??
You do know that at that time MARLON was bigger then REEVES but when THIS movie came OUT...however Reeves NOT BRANDO stole the show in THIS MOVIE. Come on man seriously
Pay attention
Finely worked out with a deep dedication, showed like a realistic. Wonderfully handled with care. My favourite film. Christopher Reeves was such a lovely looking hero. Missing him much
I saw this when I was a little boy and when I saw this with my own kids sent a shiver down my spine when the music starts
An amazing group of talented people solving problems on the fly (no pun)
Creating ingenuous effects and techniques that are still used today that made us all believe that Superman was real.
Legendary skills.
Most of the crew thought the movie would be a massive flop when it was released.
How wrong they were.
Legendary movie 👌
The best Superman movie and the best Superman. They keep trying but don’t come close. The Brandon Routh film came close.
I think this was one of the two best Superman costumes, too, along with the one Dean Cain wore in "Lois & Clark".
One of my all time faves. This was released a year after I was born. How the World was back then compared to now.
Superman!!!!!!
awesome cut. Very Well done
R.I.P. Mr. Reeves. You played the part perfectly.
Bravo! It's terriffic
I dont know how 'superman legacy' can even come close to this masterpiece.. my favourite film as a child and im now 45 and still my favourite film .. as a little english boy i thought superman lived in new york (to me the city is metropolis lol) .. i still remember shreddies having a superman badge offer and became my fave cereal .. until i spotted a box of cheerios on the table when clark left home 😂
Very impressiv how they manage to make this movie. Some scenes u can easy see its fake, but some scenes its looks like superman flies. My favorite sequense is when he have interwiev with lane and take her for a ride. It looks so real and fantastic...
With the equipment and technology in the year it was made, the Superman film has succeeded in tricking us into believing that Superman exists in the real world.
Thank you geniuses and Mr Christopher Reeve
it was like star wars 👍👍👍
Christopher Reeve appears at 28:15 once his interview comes I got emotional real quick cause he was that good of Superman Actor
There Will never be a better Superman then christoper reeve never
It's sad to think that both Margo Kidder and Christopher Reeve are long gone. Imagine if they were still alive, you could possibly make some sort of follow up.
I and II were great. III was fun but IV let not talk about that 1 thru 3 was a good watch. the sfx were really well done considering the age. You know there there were miniature sets but you believe it because there were no uncanny valleys. the flying was obvious wire works but it is the same as today. i would say that the flying and running was ground breaking.

R.I.P Christopher...Unforget ❤
Superb documentary and I also think what they said is correct Christopher Reeve is Superman. It’s not that his Superman is outstanding, it’s good, what really sells it for me is that his Clark Kent is absolutely on point. There are both obvious differences such as confidence, assertiveness etc but the little differences such as body language and social awkwardness of Clark Kent are easy to miss or interpret as “goofy”. The scene in the first movie where he’s all set to tell Lois that he is Superman portray this exactly, the one moment where we get the two characters together with the transformations from Clark to Superman and back again.
BRAVO - Good Job. Excellent Edit.
Descanse En Paz Gran Actor Christopher Reeve. Vivirá Inmortal en sus Películas. Entrevistas. Extraordinario Actor. En Octubre 2024. Cumple veinte años de su fallecimiento. Ejemplo de vida. Superman.
He really can fly now he’s a bauitfull angel 🕊️
Yes🕊️
. I love the whole "...my only son." Superman as Jesus metaphor. I also think the first Lois Lane helicopter rescue is one of the best, if not the best "introductions" to Superman ever. I had the pleasure of seeing this movie in 70 mm at the Manns (as it was called in the 70's) Chinese Theater in Hollwood
...and that Superman must give his life to serve humanity, lead others and he never lies.
No!!
It was March 28th 1977
Was the first day of filming
If its been restored to its original but addition scenes were added than its not original
The grandad of them all
Gene Hackman spot on Lex Luther
We need a hero again in America in 2024... Can it get much worse😢
Superman would definitely have been a good moral example for today's world. He symbolized the greatness of spirit and character that all humanity should aspire to and value.
Never seen the big deal in Marlon Brando
He was definitely overkill for this. Didn't add much to the movie!
Reeve wasn't enamored of him. Said he phoned it in.
I heard Brando got 11 percent of the sales. ridiculous
Brando was overkill for this movie! He didn't really add much to the movie.
22:01-22:26 phantom zone is meant to take general zod and his companions to the prison dimension.
One of the biggest crimes in Hollywood has to be the sacking of Richard Donner during Superman 2
His name is “ledendary?”
Superman is clearly the message that God sent he’s only son Jesus Christ to save the world!!
Like a Cov supporter being brought up as a Vile fan. SOTV
en eso años era un super tegnologia en el año 1977 pero la pelicula que iso henry cavil con los efectos de cristofer nolan quedo muy origuinal casi a la par de la realidad ... puro efecto de computador ....
I was 9 when it came out and as much as I loved the movie, as a little black boy the only black character in the movie was a slick talking pimp offended me. Imagine if Asian, Indian or Jewish was represented as a stereotype.
Unfortunately if the shoe fits.
