Google translation of the text for those curious:)
ENGLISH:
Ah, that absence is a cruel martyrdom.
When we tenderly love a very charming object,
and that we dare not say it.
We complain, we sigh, we cherish the torment; and love inspires us to repeat often:
Ah, that absence is a cruel martyrdom, when one tenderly loves a very charming object, and dares say so.
Hey ! Just one small correction, at the end the lyrics in french are "lorsqu'on aime tendrement un objet tout charmant, et qu'on ne l'ose dire" and it means "when one tenderly loves a very charming object, and dares NOT say so." The "not" is very important since it changes the meaning. Apart from that very minor thing, this video is just as amazing as all the other ones you've made so far. I'm eager to see the next ones ! Keep it up :D
The most difficult part of this video is brandon not fogging up his glasses
Truly.
@@brandonacker Can you play Over the Rainbow on the theorbo as a request for 250k subscribers?
@@danielmilitello4795 250k subs is a shred reveal actually ;)
That's easy. Don't wear a muzzle.
@@Jason-ji4sy its a global pandemic bro
This is the type of professionally played music people would pay hundreds to see and you're just posting it up on youtube for all to see... incredible.
what a voice. Wow. Theorbo really is optimized for vocal accompaniment
100٪ agree. That and a large acoustically reactive environment. Also, that viola de gambe is such an interesting element of the baroque period.
Forever
That's literally what it was invented for

250k shred reveal don't forget Brandon
This might be the video that pushes him over the tipping point of subscribers.
And a coffin reveal at 500k don’t forget that either!
Castle reveal at 1million subs🧛♂️🏰
Every time i watch a brandon video i'm split between "i really wanna play right now" and "i'm never gonna be this good"
That voice hit me like a sudden dawn
Crystal clear voice ❤️
Fantastic trio! Very well balanced. You make it sound effortless. Thanks to all three of you for sharing.
Brandon! My boyfriend and I are your biggest fans! We could only hope to be half as good and knowledgeable as you! xx
yes!
i am boyfriend
Brandon looking more anime than ever with that mask
I wasn't expecting such beautiful voice. I played the video while washing the dishes and was like oh yeah that's cool, then she started singing and my heart went ❤
Absolutely amazing
This was so good! This is an excellent example of the beauty in early music and why I love it. Thank you for sharing!
That voice steals the show, and that's saying something.
Beautiful voice and great playing. It's always a pleasure to hear great music. Thank you take care
Beautifully sung and played!
Indeed! Giving me goosebumps
I had to stop the video after 10 seconds to get my good headphones. Amazing work.
Wow beautiful, bravo!👏
Brandon you're the reason why I started to learn classical guitar after playing metal for 20 years. My right hand is like... 20 years behind my left lol.
Eagerly anticipating that shred reveal only 6k left to go
Brilliant! Thank you so much!
What a beautiful performance from all of you. Thank you so much for sharing this.
One can appreciate more a performance like this when seen live, up close and personal.
Full lyrics in the description or comments would be appreciated! What a voice! Oh, and good job guys! 👍
I agree. I’m a native French speaker and can only pick out a few words. I personally find it’s not a great language in regards to delivering text with an operatic technique.
I tried to find the lyrics, but it appears they're only available by purchasing a copy of the score. What I did find is that the full title (and also first line of the lyrics) is "Ha, Que L'Absence Est Un Cruel Martire," which translates to "Ah, absence is a cruel martyrdom," so that's something, at least.
@@helenpanshin5589 Well, that's frighteningly fitting in this time of social distancing...
Brandon posted the lyrics! The English translation is:
Ah, that absence is a cruel martyrdom.
When we tenderly love a very charming object,
and that we dare not say it.
We complain, we sigh, we cherish the torment; and love inspires us to repeat often:
Ah, that absence is a cruel martyrdom, when one tenderly loves a very charming object, and dares not say so.
What. A. Voice. Wow!
Absolutely beautiful. A great way to start my week off. Bravo to all three.
The gamba is just a wonderful, almost essential part in this style of music, just as a good meal requires some ingredients. Love this performance
I'm so early I don't see people complaining about people saying they're early
This left me speechless, thank you!
Beautiful!!!
Breathtaking 👌
Beautiful.
PERFECT vocal accompaniment! And playing to boot!
This was haunting and awesome.
Great playing. Keep it up.
Beautiful
So cool and awesome
Kudos to the sound person. This came across beautifully through my little tab's tiny speakers.
Wow, how beautiful
Not my type of music but very well done. I love the contrast of the bowing and picking of the stringed instruments.
Muchos thank you for this concerto ❤👍🏽
Extraordinaire ! Bravo !
absolutely beautiful
so beautiful. thank you
some dimitrie cantemir music from istanbul would really turn people onto something unique and truly special! jordi savall does great work.

That. Was. AWESOME! Thank you, I needed something to clear my head.
Love this so much.
Que Hermosa Voz y Video!

THEORBO SNIPER
Very haunting and beautiful!
Bravo!!
Perfect world scenario ... Brandon Acker on his preferred plucked instrument with Christina Pluhar on her preferred plucked instrument ( she is a master at all of them ) add to the stage Jason Moy with his harpsichord and Craig Trompeter on viola da gamba. On voices pick one ( or all ) : Jakub Józef Orliński ,Philippe Jaroussky or Max Emanuel Cencic . All of them conducted by Nathalie Stutzmann , she can also sing in a breath-taking contra-alto voice... Oh... just imagine !
But serious talk now, Somebody should bring a contra-tenor on this channel the world needs to know the voice of the Baroque !
You forgot to add a cornetto player for perfection
You forgot to add a cornetto player for perfection
@@phanakapana I don`t know his name but Christina Pluhar has one fantastic cornetto player in her band. But yeah , good idea , my dream is getting better and better :)
She sings fantastic, but my first thought was: What if Klaus Nomi would come down from heaven in his extraterrestrial masquerade?
Can you put this on a ten hour loop for me to sleep to? It's very relaxing
Stunning!
Beautiful performance!
U are soooooo amazing 😍💕 thx you because u are helping me a lot on the guitar💛🤍
*_no question on the instrumental obviously good but the vocal is first class. Thank you for pandemic relive_*
I am clapping at my computer. Amazing!
@Brandon Acker, did you open the section with the whole prelude or did you just snipe the final run from the visee a minor prelude from the Saizenay MS? Either way good to see a theorbist play close to the bridge. Many theorbists seem to rely on microphoning to be heard at all in ensemble play and play closer to the rosette.
Good catch:) I played the whole prelude on the recital but I wanted this post to mostly feature this beautiful song by Bembo.
And yes im trying to commit to the historical approach of playing on the bridge. Thanks for noticing :)
Please make theorbo merch!!

what a beaut!
Maravilloso ❤
May God grant you the ultimate excellence in plucked strings playing (not that you are not amazing yet but just saying)
Thx for existing man
Hay Brandon! Can you make a video about rabab. National instrument of Afghanistan. It has Very sweat sound you will love it.

Now we need a full on guitar shread
WOW.
Oh, this is about a lute, . . .all I heared was the songstress ! It oughta' be Amanda's video, great control !
Only 6k subs away from electric guitar shred reveal
I'm surprised to hear de visee's prelude at the beginning, sounded wonderful!
If you guys like this but you are in the mood for metal, go listen to a band called Nightwish. The album Wishmaster from the year 2000 might pique your interest. Listening to this more classical stuff made me remember this band and I wanted to share it with you all because that vocalist was actually classically trained and she is legit.
I believe that Brandon is a multimillionaire that doesn't know what to do with money then travels in time to buy expensive instrument of the 15th century.
The popular belief is he's a vampire, so he might have bought them at the time and kept them
yes, he has owned these instruments for centuries. One doesn't become proficient on all these instruments in one lifetime. This is what 100s of years of practice look like
@@BILLY-px3hw good point
@@BILLY-px3hw also you can check his 10 year old videos. He hasn’t changed a bit. He doesn’t age lol
