I was taught that this kind of singing has nothing to do with control. It's the letting go that matters. "Control" implies a determination and muscular engagement to achieve a predetermined goal.
@@aaron756 I could not disagree more. I've been a vocal pedagogue for fifty years. You learn the skill sets required so absolutely that you don't control, but allow it to happen. The learning will have become habit and the habit will give you the performance. Any attempt to control the voice is anathema to good singing. Unfortunately, there's quite a lot of very bad singing out there.
@@martyheresniak5203 I’ll put it this way, if I don’t make my voice work then it won’t. I know how to sing and I can sing pretty well, even if I do say so myself. If I don’t take deep breaths and think about what notes I want to hit and where the vibrato needs to go then it will never happen. If I don’t make my voice do that then it never will. Maybe singing is more effortless for some but for me I have to tell my voice what to do. Idk how you sing.
That was beautiful. Effortlessly moving from his full voice to almost a whisper. All without waivering on a single note. The only thing missing was hearing the velvety tones of Brandon's speaking voice as an introduction or outro.
Wow! Nicholas Phan is amazing. At the same time a very sweet and masculine voice. One of my favorite male singers. I was listening to his album A Painted Tale earlier today and now this... This will be epic!
Beautiful. I have been listening to the works of Silvius Leopold Weiss performed by Robert Barto. The vocalist is wonderful to hear with your beautiful Baroque Theorbo accompanient.👍❤
Brings me back to college days. You surprised me with Purcell. I enjoy his art song but I never thought about lute accompaniment for some reason. Really cool guys
They didn't used to interrupt songs. RUclips is becoming a hostile environment. If they could make you pay for blocking ads in your dreams, they would do it if they could.
Can't believe I only found this today. With the Theorbo's tuning it's probably a pipe dream but if it were possible I'd love to hear you and Nicholas do an arrangement of one of the Finzi songs. There's already a great arrangement of Britten's folk songs for guitar and voice but the fantasy of showing off the Theorbo's dynamics on some other 20th century art songs is pretty compelling - perhaps because it'd be so damn hard.
Brandon, beautifully done. What is your nail status on this? I got a starter lute, but cannot bring myself to cut off my nails (filing them short, however).
Thank you! In this recording I had nails on my fingers but not the thumb. I would definitely recommend filing them pretty short and trying to see if you can use flesh on the thumb. However you can indeed play lute with nails. Nothing wrong with it.
Why not put the links in the description? Unless they are there, which would mean I have a very specific form of blindness. Edit: Loved the recital. The melancholy in these songs is very sweet. Like a memory of lost love.
I was waiting for a Barroque version of Gimme the loot by Notorious BIG. Wasn't disappointed anyway. So beautiful
not what you wanted but you asked nicely so... ruclips.net/video/F7XSGdSjkLg/видео.html
Well played sir!
LOL
The control of his voice is absolutely amazing!
Right?!

@@martyheresniak5203You literally need control over your voice to sing.

Sometimes the youtube algorithm blesses you, this is so beautiful. Thank you.

This recording is an absolute treasure
Nicholas sings smoothly he makes it so easy.
Wow what a great singer! Cant forget my man killing it on the theorbo though.
That is my kind of duo... Theorbo master Brandon paired with best tenor voices I lately heard. Very well done !!!
The emotional range of Nicolas’ voice is amazing. The combination of this duo is yet another complete success.
This deserves millions of views.

Indeed, a gifted duo! Excellent.
Just exquisite! Bravo Nicholas and Brandon! I was especially happy to listen to the Purcell. Thank you for sharing this treasury. (Kirin)

A fabulous presentation, most enjoyable! That includes the great performance, but also the recording quality for both vice and instrument.
No it is in 3days time goodness I thought it was an already uploaded video

Perfect pairing of voice and instrument. Lovely😊
Bravo!
That beautiful passacaille style
This is beautiful... Thank you
A beautiful recital. As good as any classic recording of this repertoire by an English Ensemble
How can RUclips interrupt such beautiful music with a tasteless add it’s beyond me!
On purpose. They want you to buy RUclips Premium.
They didn't used to interrupt songs. RUclips is becoming a hostile environment. If they could make you pay for blocking ads in your dreams, they would do it if they could.
It’s about the buck! $$$
Really, really, beautiful singing
Some chord changes remind me of Hackett/Gabriel era Genesis... beautiful stuff!
Very beautiful songs and an absolutely fantastic interpretation, lovely !
Incredible. Wish I could give more for such a performance.
That was incredible!
So beautiful
Beautiful performance! That man has a gorgeous voice.
Magnific!!!!
Beautiful voice
Ahhh! great.
I love the text painting - the 'humble' theorbo bass
Amazing
Hi friends, while we wait for the premiere, check out Nick's RUclips channel here: ruclips.net/user/grecchinois01
Beautiful ❤️
Какое удовольствие Вас слушать...
Nicely done! Bravo!
Brandon knows more instruments than I know songs...
Magnifique ❤
That was excellent, I enjoyed the bassiness (? ignorant layman talk) of the first song. So easy to listen to. Thanks for keeping the genre going.
More from you guys please🙏👍🌿🌟😁
Ottima voce 👏🏼
