    • @JordanMcKeithan

      Glad it was helpful! I think they push the -12 because people like that “aggressive stance” look where the wheels poke out. Little do most people know that makes the tire rub like crazy. It’s a fine line between tire size, wheel offset, and rubbing if you’re not willing to cut the cab mount.

    Please correct me if I’m wrong…but I could’ve swore I heard b4 that when running + offset rims, you have a greater chance of rubbing the UCA’s or even hitting the coilovers at articulation. Idk but I rather rub on the cab mount and fender liners/ bumper than those other components because as you stated…there are things you can do about it to fix the rub.

    • @JordanMcKeithan
      @JordanMcKeithan  2 года назад +3

      That is correct! OEM wheels or wheels with a really high positive offset +10 or more will definitely rub with bigger tires on the UCAs/coil overs. That’s why I said you don’t want to go too high on the positive offset, just enough to clear the cab mount without rubbing any other internal components! Usually 0-+4 is a good spot for clearing 285/70/17 tires with no rubbing and a 2in lift.

I don't go out and rock crawl with it - I have a TJ on 35s for that , so the few times i tried to get some real life do's and dont's and you don't want to run 265/70 all terrains .. currently running stock TRD rims with a +30mm offset, 285/70/17s with a 3.5in lift kit. IF I didn't have these 1.5in spacers in they would be a nightmare on the rubbing issue, currently they rub on the cab mount. With the 1.5in spacers I currently have a -8mm offset and it just so barely rubs on the cab mount while full weight truck and turning all the way left or right. Would getting a wheel with a negative offset such as in the range of -12 thru -20 fix my rubbing issue with the cab mount? I don't mind trimming the fender or plastic parts, what would be annoying is to do the CMC in general. I hope that running -12 thru -25mm offset wheels will fix this problem. Please let me know :)

      It's hard to say man. Usually the second you get into negative offset, you're going to have some rubbing going on. To give you perspective, before I had this setup I had 2.5 in bilstein 5100 lift with 285-70-17 tires and TRD Pro wheels. No rubbing with that setup. Then I tried 1.5 in wheel spacers for a more aggressive stance, immediately TONS of rubbing so I took them off. As you can see just adding the slightest amount of negative offset changes the articulation angle and causes rubbing problems. Better off just getting a chop done if you want to avoid the rubbing and have a wider stance.

      From what I understand anytime you go with negative offset, it’ll likely rub without a cmc. So if you’re willing to do that, go for it, if not, maybe better to stick with the 0 offset.

      If you want to go bigger, just get a cab mount chop to play it safe. Or try it and see how it works out for you. Based on what I’ve seen most people that go over 285 tire size have to get a cab mount chop regardless of lift height unless you have a 6 in lift. Then you can clear 35s

      Thanks man! Yeah that’s why I made the video because I’ve been in you shoes brother! I had the same thing with my 4Runner before I got my Tacoma. One major thing you have to consider is the width of the wheel too. Stock wheels are like 7-8 inches wide vs aftermarket wheels which usually start at 9 inches wide. That’s a big difference as far as clearance is concerned. So I did a ton of research before buying and yet it still rubs lol. Only way to really get around it is a cab mount relocation especially if you want bigger tires.
