I am running a similar setup on my 21 OR. I have 285/70/17 on the TRD wheels with +4 offset and I don't rub on the street but when I take it off road even something slightly bigger than a speed bump will start to rub. It looks like you will definitely have that same issue off road
Im running 265/70r17 on the TRD Wheels +4mm offset and im also having rubbing issues, but im not sure if it has to do with the fact that im still on stock height and have a DV8 steel midbumper. Im waiting till the end of the month so i can get a replacement plastic midbumper and see how much trimming I have to do. Many people say the run the 265/70 with this wheels without any rubbing but im not sure if they do any off roading.
I recently just mounted and balanced some 275/70/R17 Falken Wildpeaks with 17' Stealth Custom Series Ray 10's on my Tacoma and been loving it ever since! No rub at either!
I have 275/70/17 on my taco. I had to cut due to some rubbing issues. I also cut my front liner, so now I have access to my fog lights. I replaced them with some 4 bangers due to water
So amazing the number of options you can have on the Tacoma! Man, now I want a Tacoma to also make these modifications and having a big truck! Thank you Chloe!!!
I'm running 295/75/16 and they just barely rub at full lock and full tuck. just light plastic trimming, no cab mount relocate. Although I'm prob gonna do 285/75/16 next. the 295 actually were on the truck when I got it.
I have LT 285/70/17 axt2 on my 2003 Ford F150- 4X4 with the FX4 Package love the look, Happy Easter, sorry been along time since watching your videos been busy
BTW Chloe, have you considered Nitto ridge grapplers or Toyo Open country at3 in 285 SL load. they are literally same weight as the ko2/ko3 265 in C load. I would imagine that wouldn't hurt your mpg and keep it about same while looking good and being good enough AT tires as well. thoughts?
Just the video I needed. I just got 704's with the bead grip, and bfg's 285 70 17's. Was wondering if I'd have to trim. I get them put on next week. Can't wait. Yours look great. Thanks!
good girl get some dirt on it. 👍👍👍👍👍👍 tuff trucks. mine 2016. sr. Barcelona red. i have (lsd) on my rear end. (limited slip diffential). one wheel starts slipping ,the other wheel starts turning. i'm always driving. in the dirt. ,goodyear wrangler tires on my truck. have a hood day.
What kind of videos? I filmed myself installing my lift a while ago (never posted it though) and plan to film the re-gear + installing this wheel/tire setup, but I'm not sure what people would want to see. As much as I LOVE my 80, the Tacoma seems to be the popular vehicle on my channel
I have been looking at one of these for the OBX. I have had a Yeti for years, which is great on ice retention, but you need to wrap everything that you don’t want wet. This maybe a great option
The nice thing about having the same bolt pattern on both trucks is that you can switch the tires between the two trucks whenever you want. Or put the smaller tires on the new rims. It's a win-win. The big lights on the Landcruiser will give it a very Australian look.
Nice vid! Definitely eyeing to go larger on the 🛞, but with my current set up, there’s going to be some serious plastic cutting involved. Got the Icon 2.5 series & UCA set up as well. Hopefully, that’ll do the trick.
285s are a great size tire for Tacomas, very popular! The key to larger tire fitment is UCA choice and proper alignment. More lift is not the solution for fitting larger tires without rubbing.
Looks good but, with the METHOD wheel. the air valve stem sure sticks out a ways & looks fairly vulnerable. Is this going to be an issue when out off road, in rocky areas, for example. With the old TRD wheels, the valve stem was somewhat less exposed & even protected a bit.
Very cool setup! If you stick with that setup I'd love to see a re-gearing video. I bet there's some awesome shops in your area that could help out. I'm not sure if I'll go with 4.88s or 5.29s when I get to that point.
After driving with these for a week... I'm sold on the 265 setup on my Tacoma for now. I love the way the truck looks with this setup, but 265s are more optimal for what I use my truck for + I don't want to deal with a re-gear on my Tacoma right now haha. Funny enough though, I am in the middle of re-gearing my Land Cruiser in preparation for these wheels/tires (it'll need it!)
I am in the very slow pay as I go process for the 285. In all my research I will be going the 529 gears for the following two reasons. First I will not be on highway with speed limit above 55. ( Oregon coast, primarily west of I 5 ) Second if I want to go bigger, knowing that I will 😂 529s will be there to carry me.
@Chloe Kuo the comment I was looking for. I currently have 265 70/17... I wish the tire filled up the wheel well better because like you mentioned, I like the way 285's look..better imo but I'm not willing to regear or lose performance just for looks. ..besides I was thinkn, you just had you're truck tuned...I would think changing tire size would affect that tune...
Nice setup but if you don’t want to worry about regearing or rubbing issues you should consider going with 275/70/17 that’s what i have on my taco with a 2.5” king suspension lift and 1.5” wheel spacers and gives that same aggressive look with no rubbing or cutting at all! And I go off-roading quite a lot too nice taco btw.
What’s your current lift setup now? I’m nervous that my current setup will impact my truck negatively and I’m new to all of this.. but eager to learn.. I just did a 2/1 lift (EIBACH) on my 3rd gen
I just went to BFG KO2's 285/75/16 on my 2021 Pro Tacoma with a Westcott pro lift and I wanted mud flaps to keep the truck clean. So, I went with RokBlokz Mud Flaps for Toyota Tacoma - Fits 2016+ Model Years. great fit and clearance. I think they look better then the stock Toyota flaps. Here is my Westcott build with Supercharger. ruclips.net/video/9B7asX8shaU/видео.html
Can you give us a video update of that dude who bought a salvaged TRD pro tacoma from a crook for about $28K and spent another 25K repairing it which would have been easier to buy a new Trd pro instead
Are you having any issues with the UCA’s? I had the same installed on my 4Runner and they have a minor creaking when turning the steering wheel slightly.
285s are the bare minimum to getting into bigger tires. You can fit 285s stick with no rub with just a better alignment. 34s or 305s is where I worry especially with aggressive offset wheels
The wheels look great on the truck and thanks for explaining the bead retention difference! Please let us know it the 285s rub when flexed. Also, is there a difference in the load rating of these and your previous set and if so, how’s the ride?
Nice video!! Thanks for sharing. Have a question. Did you get a wheel alignment? I know sometimes it is good to get after a different tire or wheel setup! Thanks again, keep up the good work.
When I saw the all caps GOING BiGGER I was thinking not another implants video, but seriously I will be curious how it impacted mpg, acceleration, and braking.
Waite till you hit a hole off road at a turn and the tire smashes your fender. l wold lift it more or put your other tires back on. By the way love your videos.
Does this affect your climbing in and climbing out ability ? looking forward to the follow up and the pros and cons. Thank you very much! Also, curious about the road noise.
“This one’s cute, it’s like for the Ford Maverick” haha. My dad has one. Makes my Tacoma look like a Dodge 3500
Does it rub off road when your springs are fully compressed and wheels turned? I'm guessing yes.
I was googling them and turns out we have one in my vicinity of Mesa AZ. Great video Chloe

Good share! Thanks, Chloe. I'm probably going for 275s
That is a good compromise!
Love the method wheels 2 thumbs up 👍👍💪🏻😁
haha, the Maverick comment. Chloe is my hero, lol, that was awesome!!
Great video! My 2019 4Runner wants to be like your Tacoma. Keep up the great work!

Great easy instructions you gave! Pedal commander kicks it up a notch, like the air intakes do!

Nice MRW!! I just got some 317s last month.
Taco looks great with this set up. Keep it!
They also do can mount chop. I had mine done at this location.
Let’s see the Land Cruiser

Any landcruiser video is good, more info the better. I have a 70 series.
Yes please do a video on the Land Cruiser.
@jaymoar3561 Yeah a better vehicle than this Taco 🌮
If the tolerances are close for the 285s and they are not rubbing while normal driving, do you have to worry about them rubbing while off-road?
I have been looking at one of these for the OBX. I have had a Yeti for years, which is great on ice retention, but you need to wrap everything that you don’t want wet. This maybe a great option
The shop ORW did a great job

Damn, those wheels look so good on the tacoma
Hello, what was your previous set up before the 285? Do you recommend 285 for every day use?
That truck reminds me of my 01 Tacoma
Same color tone
Silver and black fenders
Nice vid! Definitely eyeing to go larger on the 🛞, but with my current set up, there’s going to be some serious plastic cutting involved. Got the Icon 2.5 series & UCA set up as well. Hopefully, that’ll do the trick.
At the beginning I was, "I'm going to make her an offer", but you killed it on the spot!
Next time I’m in cali visiting family I would love to check out that store. I drive a 2016 TRD Sport, but there is only so much I can do with a 2WD.
Nice video, this wheel tire set up does look good on the Taco.

So you have the OEM trd pro fox shock suspension upgrade?
What’s your lift for the front and back?
How has the bigger tires impacted your MPG?
Looks great. I would keep the 285s on the Taco, and personally, I don't like the mud flaps at all and took all mine off.
Did u also change the spare tire to 285? If so, where do you keep it?
Is this possible to do on my 1998 Saturn Wagon? If so, how’s the road noise?
Just had that badboy tuned, makes 149 hp now 😎
So wait I’m confused if I lift my truck to 2” in the front can I run 285/70/17?
Been considering the zero offset wheels for my 4runner, currently running 285s with +15 offset but got minor rubbing on upper control arms.
"it's for the Ford Maverick" LOL
Chloe,
I really enjoy your videos. Have you ever come across the common rear differential howl on your truck in the time you have owned it?
Cutting the bolt and installing it from the rear towards the front is actually the way the factory service manual says to do the job
Are you having any issues with the UCA’s? I had the same installed on my 4Runner and they have a minor creaking when turning the steering wheel slightly.
wait what happened to the 703s from a year ago?
On a stock 22 TRD OR, what’s the biggest tire/wheel combo to fit without any rubbing or cutting?
That shop sure carries lots of great brands, as for the wheels, I hate black wheels, but it's your Taco
Are you ever going to do 35+
Chloe I have - a 2022 Tacoma OR 4wd. Mine has a front sensor any calibration required? I’m thinking about lifting to 2inch front and 1 inch rear
Did they fill with air or nitrogen?
Congrats on sizing up! I've been running 285's now for a year, and I,ve never looked back. Great content as always!
I’m right behind you! What did you do to prevent rubbing?
285s are the bare minimum to getting into bigger tires. You can fit 285s stick with no rub with just a better alignment.
34s or 305s is where I worry especially with aggressive offset wheels
Do you feel like you need to re-gear?
Great now when i start using my F150 for the summer all I'm going to think is i need them rims.
295s should fit with the TRD wheels. I ran 295s on stock steel wheels on my 2015. 285’s should be a breeze on the TRD wheels.
Hopefully the new taco can fit 33’s-35’s stock! 👍🏻👍🏻
Hey Toyota…redesign your fender sizes!
Looks very sharp and aggressive
Looks nice. 🤙
Do those wheels and tires fit on a stock Tacoma anybody know ?
The wheels look great on the truck and thanks for explaining the bead retention difference! Please let us know it the 285s rub when flexed. Also, is there a difference in the load rating of these and your previous set and if so, how’s the ride?
Did you do “C” rated 285?

When upgrading the tire size, you should re-tune your Tacoma to maximize performance. Also the BFGoodrich Trail Terrain tires are really good too!
how is cutting the front bumper less permanent than moving the collar on the coilover. LOL
All I will say is... you are happy with your decision, and have no regrets. Thus, the decision was the right one.
