I must admit it, I'm also hooked on your videos, I'm working in Indonesia and not much salsa here. I'm introducing it to people at work and your videos make all women here want to learn.. thanks!
We started to dance 'on2' now with our advanced group and you are one of the few that are a big help to us!!! Thanks for this great videos and sharing your knowledge en passion with us!!!
Got it. It looks complicate only at the beginning. Then it gets easier. Thanks for the clear explanations, paisano. You were right about the beginners classification of these maneuvers.
I just got into salsa dancing and this vid really helped me out. Keep posting vids and I'll keep watching and I'll be practicing with them with my partner!
Simply awesome videos. The newer ones have much better quality giving the videos more life, and of course making it easier to learn the movements for us newbies :D Id like it if you could explain about the difference between On1 and On2!
absolutely fantastic man, strange because your videos consists of moves that can actually be done in a club and not some choreographed mechanical routine thats practically impossible to perform. you've got us addicted to salsa but what got you addicted anthony, no pares the good work u doing more than u think u are believe me.
If this is for beginners, then i guess I'm. I though I knew a good deal but as a Puerto Rican myself I think now I have to learn more. Thanks, paisano.
The rhythm in salsa is set by the Conga hit/slap. If you listen carefully to the song we are dancing to, we break (step) on those marks which happen on counts 2 and 6. Dancing any faster or slower would not be dancing to the rhythm (percussion). We start the show dancing on2 (clave) - however we explain the move on1 for beginners.
The steps are basically the same. For NY on2, the leads start going backwards instead of the lady. Dancing on2 means you break on the beats 2 and 6 (which are directly correlated to the congas and the clave). Check out some of our other videos for more examples. We also have audio episodes on our website that help you find the beat.
Please click 'more' on the 'About This Video' section on the right. There is a link there that will take you to the entry in our blog with the name of the song in RED and a link to where you can download it.
Number 4 is the pause you have between 3 and 5.when you start you go forward with 1,2,3.then you take a small pause 4 and then you go backwards 5,6,7.the number 8 is silent too and is the second pause after number 7. so it is forward 1,2,3,pause(4) backwards 5,6,7,pause(8) did i help?
I still don't understand Salsa on 2. I know you mention that there is a slight difference. But what is the difference? Which foot do you start with? Do you move forward or back? I understand the counting the numbers but not the stepping? Please explain this as simple is possible. WHich is better or preferred; salsa1 or salsa2?
Muchos profesores enseñan bailes en vez de enseñar a bailar. Sin embargo hace hincapie en eseñar pasos que es el mayor obstaculo para aprender a bailar bien.
Most Puerto Rican Regetton can be danced Salsa style. We do. It is also called Salsaton. The Americans call it now Latin Hip Hop but the rhythm is the same. Salsaton Can be danced Free style or Salsa style.
Great Combo papa, but this is not 4 beginners. It's more 4 intermediate level Salseros/as. Hopefully in 2010 u can post more vids please my panas & I need new combos!

We have lots of audio podcast episodes (not on youtube, but on the website) where I chat/talk about on1/on2.
Wow These Moves Are AWSOME
In the introduction we are dancing on2 (NY) timing. We explain the move on the on1 (LA) timing.

Yes. Also Cha-Cha (which is great for body movement).
Actually, you guys are getting a salsa festival in the summer-time. You should try to attend - Juan Matos is going to be there! (he's very good)

there is no other option for you if u dont have a partner :-) but when you dance with a lady you will learn it fast and easy. just my 2 cents !
