I prefer the lay down...way more comfortable
Lmao...... careful they will make them now
i love a machine that can run all 4 seasons from mowing to plowing, and snowblowing to sweeping to yard cleanups wich why i love having a machine that does year round jobs instead storing the machine away for winter and nice comfort cab with ac on hot days wich is nice and am fm stereo to listing to while working
@@michaelmactavish1728 what do you have a ventrac?
No doubt Jason 😂
I need your machine Michael😂
Sit down. Stand up. Almost like I am back in school. Have a good one be safe.
Bad back vs bad knees, property size, and property condition as far as trash, debris, and terrain. I'll take a sit down all day regardless. Bad knees here.
on my gf's computer so promise I'm a dude but aye man I'm only 18 but I've been working for my dad since 12 and I'm taking it over now and nobody has ever broken it down this detailed and specific as you. you are literally saying things I wouldn't even think of but when I hear it I see it as a problem in the field. I run scags so some of the advantages like suspensions aren't as big of factors to me but you made sure to hit every point possible and allow me to look at broader aspects of the game itself. got me cracking up about the trash part. Keep the videos coming man cause I have found my mentor!
I appreciate that. Glad I was able to give you a new outlook on things. Good luck taking over for your dad and keep grinding.
Good video....for no notes or cue cards that was an impressive presentation.
Never had a stand on, but I see one coming in the future
Totally agree with you, love the z3x !! It can’t be beat ! Lol
I hope you and your family are all good after the tornados. Sending prayers from MN
Nice setup, looks like a win win!
Great video brother! Excellent info and comparison. I hope to demo some standers this season. Did demo the Badboy Revolt 54" last season and was pleasantly surprised. Looking to demo a JD Quiktrak and the new Cub ProX soon I hope. Keep it up man and stay safe out there👊💪👍!
A well put together video. John deer had a flap on the tube on a tractor system 18 years ago. Awesome content. Beem doing it for 25 years.
I've never had a stand on mower but have been considering one lately. Thanks for doing this video, really no one has done a compare/contrast as an unbiased owner.
You want be disappointed in one
Great video today always enjoy watching your video have a great rest of the week stay safe
Thanks Jason you do the same brother
Definitely going to see about demoing a stander when I’m in the market for another mower. That’ll be a while though.
I like my stander better that my Zero turns that I use. I feel a lot better at the end of the day. Great video.
I love my stand on. You are 100% correct with the back problems on a sit on.
Thanks for your no nonsense reviews.
You’re welcome. Nothing worse than not just getting right to the point
Nice review buddy ...... I have an Exmark Turf Tracer with a stand-on ..... love it ..... just cut my own property
Tyvm for the experienced insight
Great analysis. Thank you.
I haven't ran a stand on but I agree with your points on why you like them. Especially fatigue getting on she off. At my previous company we used Walker's and Exmarks. But your right they both have their place depending on jobs.
Going to demo a BobCat 36" stand on tomorrow so will be interesting to see how they run as I've only ever used sit downs. I reckon a stand on is great for small and tight access lawns or where you have a lot of obstacles to get around, but if your mowing all day, every day a sit down is probably a bit nicer. As to the rubbish side of things I don't get too much of that as we are mainly residential still but for the few commercial sites I have I got one of those trash grabber things so I can reach out and pick stuff up without having to even turn the blades off. Hardly gets used but very efficient when needed.
Im a stander sitting down hurts my back and having ocd getting off and on makes my day hell
I've had one of each for 12 years. It's nice to be able to use whichever works best. I tend to use the stand on a bit more than the sit down and I just turned 72.
I have to say I own a Kubota z724 and love but I purchased a Ferris z2 about six months ago and just really started cutting with it in the last month. I must say O love it man more efficient on hills and tight landscapes yards. I cut one today 15 minutes faster than I usually cut a 3/4 acre yard. I was amazed may purchase a z3 depending on how this year goes with our current situation. Be Safe man.
I like them both. They both get stuck to.
I use sit down zero turn mower I had a exmark lazer z with 25hp kohler command pro 52in cut mower I had to replace my exmark with a kubota z421 54in cut with a Kawasaki engine my exmark had 2230 hours on motor it was a good mower I owned it for 17 years I enjoy watching your videos keep up the great work my wife and I cut grass on weekend we have 8 yards we cut stay safe
Great commentary today...as far as trash..i have trash tongs to snag a paper...cup..bottle on my rig😉😉
I've been trying to figure out why my muscles are so tired after riding on my ztr. 6-8 lawns a day. All I can figure is holding myself back against the seat with my legs. Also 37 and out of shape from winter. Interested in getting a stander to add to my fleet next year. Great video
I've got about 3 acres open and a couple other properties that are smaller with some hills...bad back good knees...not sure about a stander though.
I like standers a little better because of the eaz on the back!
I fully agree with you Richie. I own 2 Ferris standers, Z1 & Z2. Absolutely love the standers over the sit down zero turns. And as far as anyone that says a stander, especially a Ferris, won't hold a hill, I say BS!! I've had my Z2 on some stupid step hills (yes I was puckered up) and it held it well, with turf tires.
Love my stander. Much more nimble and efficient. The only difference is I run a Wright stander.
I agree 100% . I'll take stander every time.
Yea Shawn it’s amazing how much more efficient I am on a stander
I prefer a stander for daily mowing and a sit down zero turn for fall clean up or really big properties. I have both back and knee problems and i love a stander.
I think both types of mowers have their place in the industry. Buy whichever you need or both that fits your business better
I had a Great Dane super surfer 52” back years ago before the standers were popular and I loved it, but now my favorite setup is 52 turf tracer and 60 lazer z can do all my stuff with both
I bought great Dane back in January of 2000 and I loved that machine. I was so disappointed when Dane lost his case and sold out to John Deere. Simple and straight forward machine that was easy to work on and super comfortable to operate
I got both, I prefer to stand on. Fewer problems and fewer accidents base on my experience.
Standup rocks ferris 3xz!
Both have there places. I prefer stand on right now.
I did the same video on my 2 Ferris mowers 😉.... "Handy Guy" has a Protero bagger that fits on the back of his Z3X. It looks pretty cool 😎
Handy Guy 2016
@@lawncommander forgot the #'s 🤦♂️
We have both machines only the 3200 we have actually timed sit down won on every lawn we timed and my back bothered me more on the stander maybe I didnt give the stander enough time,I do agree you do feel more refreshed on the standerand finally the fall for clean up the baggers make a big difference
The good thing about my comparison is they are identical mowers except for the standing and sitting. It could change depending on environment and different brands of machines
Hey man Toro makes a walker like mower check that out I believe it's cheaper then a walker
I Prefer the Stand On Unit, and I run John Deere. also, I run a Grass Gobbler with it. I highly recommend it because I have AWESOME Dealer Support :)
Love my stand on have two a 636 m and a 654r both john deere great machines but for picking up garage I drive up beside it and leave one foot on the back and bend down and pick it up.. I waste no time
I have both and the ztr is better for my properties. I couldn't cut without being able to feather the deck.
I love my foot deck lift assist on my new ariens Ikon 42xd it cuts great too
I purchased an FW35 walk behind with a sulky as a homeowner and I wouldn't trade it for a sit-down for the ease of pickup alone (trash, dog toys, larger sticks/branches). It doesn't seem like a big deal jumping off and on a sit-down, but it does wear on you eventually. Luckily I don't have any joint issues so the sulky doesn't beat me up at all. I would have opted for a stand-on, but I got a deal on a prior year model and as a homeowner I couldn't justify the extra cost. They all shine in their own way at certain tasks. Sit-down for large, wide open areas. Stand-ons are probably best for all-around stuff, tight areas, fast. Walk-behinds I find to be as versatile as them all, but slower, but reign supreme on hills. That was my experience and views in the year of professional lawncare under my belt. Best would be to have all three, but a good way to be broke.
For acreage sit, for normal yards seems standing makes sense. Bagger is same as walk behind. We run 48 and 36 walk behind. What you say about lopsided weight w/ side mounted collector is a thing.
Do the Ferris mowers have shaft driven decks? I run a scag turf tiger 2 which is shaft driven, but I believe the v-rides are belt driven. Was wondering if it’s the same with Ferris.
I run a John Deere 648R stander and a John Deere 920M and my stander handles hills better than the sit down due to having a wider wheel base.
I think having a zero turn in the stand on is the best of both worlds. Like you said if you get bored from sitting. Then you can just stand up
You dont need to get off to pick up trash. Thats what they make grabbers for. Which you should be using even with a stander.
Sitter all day 😂 even through the stander trend, that's not going to change for me. Unfortunately I don't get to sit all day, because I have a variety of cut situations, some walkbehind, a couple of pushmow areas ( not to mention the trimming and cleanup ).
Hi. I'm new on the channel and I will totally understand if you're uncomfortable answering my next question, but I'll ask it anyway. How much money did you invest in your current setup of gear and equipment, excluding the pick up truck (or whatever you have to haul your gear) and a trailer? I can see you, pretty much, have all the equipment needed to run a landscaping business and since I've been doing the similar job for a few years and have been steadily investing into and upgrading my gear, it makes me wonder how far am I from a rounded equipment stock. Thank you in advance.
I've been running my Z3X 52 inch with 37hp Vanguard now for 11 hours. I have a bad back and knees Thanks to the Army. So far I like it better for the most part. The smoother yards it extremely comfortable. The rougher yards I have to slow down or it will start bucking. I would like to see the pad be extended back a little because I have a inch between my knees and the pad from the way I stand. I have noticed my rear and abs are getting a workout which is good. The one thing I don't like is the location of the gas filler neck. I pull up to most pumps with drivers side nearest to the pump. Mower is on the right side. Other than that I like it. Oh and gotta find a bag for trash collection to mount to it. But other than those too I likie.
I was in a head on car accident where i broke my neck both hips my left shin and crushed my right foot. 3 years later I started my own pressure washing and lawn care company. I started it with a toro recycler an echo trimmer a husqvarna blower and a rake with a honda 3gpm pressure washer. I finally got to a position to where i could stop push mowing my yards thank god and bought a new Ariens Ikon 42xd and love it so far. I may upgrade to a full commercial in the following years but this year has been a lot of pressure washing and a few lawns but man my knees couldn't take pushing all of them.
Great video, as usual. I have been using standers exclusively since starting my first company in 2000. I operated walk behinds and ZTRs for many years prior. Even at our largest property, which takes two and a half hours of straight mowing, I feel fine after standing. That's with bad knees and back from years of powerlifting. With the Advent of machines like the super88, even fields will be better on a stander.
Power hour!
Who made standers 24 years ago?
@@workingcountry1776 Dane Scag created the grate Dane super surfer in late 99. I received the first one assembled in the Tampa/St. Pete area in late January 2000. Ed Wright came out with his around the same time. He took Dane to court and won a patent lawsuit
@@Hillsidelanscapemanagement That's an interesting piece of history. Thanks!
I said to Wally about Ejector Seat option... ha ha, Anywho on the sit down zero turn... I'd design a telescopic 8' max grabber pole PVC and Surgical Tubing for spring action jaws to collect trash without moving the this and that parking jaz just to get off pick a
Well it,s best to have both machines to match the job at hand see you later sir 😀😄
As someone who used both all day long, the stander was by far better for me and my back.
It was no contest when it came to the difference in fatigue level.
I also noticed the stander took hills better.
Agreed
So having a bad knee that I do walk on with "just standing" would you recommend a "Stand On" or a "Sit Down" mower?..small yard, tired of push mower with power wheels I have to walk behind?..
I love my z2 holds hills better than my is700z. And I have a bagging system for my z2 and omg amazing. No need for weights on the front the deck is heavy enough. Protero check them out. Their blowers are amazing and tons of power.
I’ll look in to them. Thanks for the info
I am torn between the Z2 or the 800zx. I demoed the Z1 and noticed the platform is too small and hurts my knees. The Z2 feels better on width, but I swear after standing on the platform for a brief while on the showroom my feet hurt (while wearing tennis shoes). I am wondering if work boots wouldn’t have this problem. Have you noticed hurting feet with the stander?
I agree to stand on over a zero turn
How have those briggs motors held up? Are they as good as the kawasaki?
Hi Richey. I agree with your critique of the 2. I spent my first 11 years on a 66in hustler Super z and last year switched to to 61 in scag vride 2 and feel so much better after a full day of mowing. My son is driving the super z now. I will say if your doing any hills I still prefer a sit down backing down especially. But hills are the only exception. I'm looking at getting the bagging system this fall for my vride 2. We are still deemed unessential up here in Michigan. Hope that gets changed soon with mowing being needed the end of April. Love the video's. Take care.
Man I hope you guys can get back out soon.
My Ferris stand on has a collection container on the side, it's vented and not the best design because the dust is massive and covers you head to toe.
I would go with stand on if your mowing hills and uneven leveling in terrain other than that sit down just me
It happens...u can fall asleep standing up:-)...I've seen it happen😆..stand on- if u loose it u can jump off it right away, ztr-u can b like an anakin from phantom menance..and say "now this is pod racing!...if u were to loos the the ztr, i don't knw any body that is that fast to get off if u roll it...haha bring a game for when ur on the ztr so u won't get bored
I had both knees replaced. My doctor said standing when mowing is better for your knees. They dont stiffin up. If I sit I get stiff and I think my view is not as good.
my knees aren't the greatest but they get setup when I sit down and mow I'm currently looking at the z1
Z1 is ok but with the narrow track it doesn’t get great traction. I would recommend the z2 or z3
I can go on hill with my z3x that I would never even thought about going with a seat on
He said my name!! 🥰🥳🥳
Yea good thing you paid me too😂😂
@@PlemonsLawnCare money well spent 😉🤣
Randy Haskell
A way to deal with picking up trash on a sit down mower is the have a lazy man pick up stick on the mower. It saves your from getting off the mower. I am though looking into upgrading too a stand on mower
As a business owner yes we would do both but employees most get lazy either way not all but most
@@PlemonsLawnCare yes that is true unfortunately
I have issues with standing for long periods of time, due to my right leg is shorter than my left, so I’ll never get a stand on......I need a sit down.
Sound's like an excuse .get some boot's or shoes get an insert for the shorter leg etc. then they both match up.
@@TheSpidersoftheworld no it isn’t, I was born with Cerebral palsy.
You make some great points now that you are a Walker owner
Hahaha I’ve always had a love for the Walker. That’s just a relaxing machine and it sounds cool lol
I find it harder to keep the stripes straight on a stander compared to a zero turn. Just me?
Is just you because I have the same machine, all you have to do to get a straight strip is focus your sight on a fixed object ahead of you. Try not to look at your front wheels as you go.
I'm to lazy to get off the mower and have a McKesson Hand-Held Reacher under my feet for picking up trash, especially white paper.
😂🤣😂🤣 it’s just a little piece of paper and it’s wet you can always mulch it and the grass turns it green so it blends in well
@@PlemonsLawnCare I suppose commercial properties require you to do things differently, like I don't have to deal with dirty diapers and needles, etc. But IMHO, a residential lot with shredded tissue paper all over it just doesn't look good. But you're right, it's biodegradable.
Sorry for the late comment.
I'll be honest, until they do an air conditioning for the standers, that's the only advantage of sitting , in relationship to 6 acres+ anyway.. 🤘
(In my opinion, and you know how that goes..😆)
Yea it can get hot that is a great point I didn’t think of
Stand-on is much lighter weight and causes less damage to the lawn during turns.
Biggest thing you missed was you need to show a guy walking to blow off when you ride the sit down.
I ride the stand up and blow off at the same time.
You gain serious time blowing off.
They also make a box to collect.
Excellent points. I love the fact I blow off while standing. The collections unit for the stander isn’t a Ferris product is the only reason I didn’t mention it.
How do they compare on hills?
You answered it in the video...premature commenter
Hahaha stand ons are way better on steep hills from my experience
The stand on has replaced the walk behind
Bud Can.. opps be free Brother =-)
Its simple the sit downs are much faster ground speed young guys i would think standon older sit down
Stander I would never go back to sit down
Stand, and it's not close. Ferris Z3, and it's also not close. If you hate yourself, stick with the same old mistakes
I have to agree. Stand is our only way to go as well.
Next time! take the time to do your measurements, it "made you look foolish" to say that you did not know lengths ( but kept chatting about lengths).
Appreciate the feed back. Who are you quoting? Yourself?
