    Yep. I’m getting one. My Z1 48” 23HP is a beast, so I can only imagine. With sharp blades, and a second pass, that grass there you cut would be perfect.

    Love the demo. I got to demo a Z2 for a week. It was a 61 inch cut with a 25.5 Kawasaki. The dealer didn't have a 52 inch to demo. That is what I am in the market for. Truly enjoyed running the mower. Run Ferris walk behinds and ZTR's. I have ran them the last two years with no concerns. Look forward to your continuing reviews.

    The best choice really from a business standpoint for me would be dealer support. In my area scag has that advantage hands down. Some things you just can’t fix yourself and a dealer well stocked in parts as well as mowers can keep you in the field mowing even during a major mechanical failure.

    • @flightographist
      @flightographist 5 лет назад

      Number one, a beautiful turf tiger with no service is expensive lawn art, my second question at the ag dealer I use is- are parts in stock.

  • @cutting_for_christ672
    @cutting_for_christ672 6 лет назад +6

    The reason I use scag is when I was in the market for a mower I talked to all the mechanics in the area, and they all said Scag was in the shop the least out of all of them. Can’t go wrong, not always the most fancy, but they are tough as nails

    I bought the Ferris Z2 52" w/oil guard. I can't say enough good things about it. I tried Wright and Scag but drove right back to my Ferris dealer. I only mow about 34 acres a week but it does it with ease and leaves a perfect cut. I will buy Ferris until another brand can step up and beat them and with the new Z3 I don't see anyone beating them anytime soon.

    Just Demo a Ferris Z2 52” 28 hp. I was defiantly impressed with Hill side grip and discharged of grass clippings.
    Did you notice how when maneuvering around obstacles the inside wheel stays moving when lever is neutral. I ask the rep and said they design it like that so you minimize turf damage when turning. Very nice machine. Looking to trade my Hustler SuperS I just bought last year in to get the Ferris

    One benefit i could see to having the gas guage where it is, the face of it doesn't cloud up like it does on units left on open trailers all the time, where the sun shines on them all day frying the plastic lens.

    Nice review! We love Ferris and the warranty and how they stand behind their products are awesome. I understand what you're saying about how the icd handles on hills. We have a lot of them and Rachel uses the 61" and likes it better than the 36" because it hugs the ground and the operator.

    One of the things not mentioned by the rep in the intro video or in the debrief video for the z3x is the front of the deck is mounted to the articulating front axle. This allows the deck to also articulate to the off camber slopes. Preventing scalping that you would get from other non articulating frames. Also the zt 4400 hydros are much better than the zt3400 that come on most other stand on mowers.

    Another cool thing about the Ferris with oil guard is that there is no break-in period.You buy the the mower new and run it (500hrs or 1 year which ever comes first)My only complaint is that the spindles use a lot of grease. (20-40 pumps of grease per spindle) twice a week when I change blades. I'm at 400hrs now and I've had since last fall.

    Great review Brian. Mower looks great and sounds awesome. We checked out Ferris couple of days ago and it looked good plus sales guy sounded very confident on its cut, engine and quality. I have noticed rust on the levers that raise and drop the cutting deck. The mower was brand new on the showroom floor, so seeing rust on it already seems odd. We have several Wrights with one in particular having over 1200 hrs (Kawasaki engine)on it with zero rust and only minor issues over the years. I suggest check them out too before you make a decision. Also, it would be a great idea to see how the mowers you are testing pick up grass and mulch leaves. To be honest they all cut grass, but how do they pick it up when requested.

    "ABSOTIVELY" (the Wright ) hopefully you'll be getting on the 30 HP ZK 61" .. Can't wait to see that one probably as much as z3x. Great review. (I'll say it.. Unless your watching knitting onyouvtube, your watching a 20 m video , let alone having to go through what u covered) Can't wait for the ZK demo!
    Appreciate all the time your taking doing these for us "deplorables" Brian. I'm in market / but exmark had just opened close by, but one thing I can't decide is say a property with all the above type of topography, as in flat open 3+ acre open field/ then drainage "mote" (retention sloped on both sides/ whole perimeter of approximately 2 acres - primary building) about 6' slope - both sides/ only dry season completely mowing bottom/ but slick & always stuck in bottom if you can't "hang" in rain season (east cent FL) maybe a 52" then.. would be more applicable, Then again, big open field.. Wondering if a 52" will actually perform better overall due to the mixture of "resi's" over - commercial or "common area " mowing acct's. Gettin older, maybe sitting is worth it over the shorter stander & ALSO sware by that foot assist deck - over - hump / non scalp vs NOT being able to on stander and SCALP.
    😬 👍 and the stander seems like it would "bronco" Alot more due to its "stubbyness" vs the longer wheel base of a sit down
    ARGH! (HOPE someone didn't start reading this that's "in a hurry"...) 🤓

    Brian....good observations. I also demoed the Z3X. I agree about the deck height lever being on wrong side. Majority of people are right handed. It is heavy to lift the deck. Natural feel is to try to adjust it with stronger arm....right arm. The standing platform does collect a lot of grass clippings and has to be cleaned out often. I agree that something needs to be redesigned to allow pass thru of debris. I am still not sold on the stand on market. I feel like I'm constantly adjusting my feet, my weight distribution, leaning whatever. It is too much moving around. I also don't like the constant hand wrist play it requires to maneuver. I prefer the zero turn because my arms can rest on arm pads which gives me more control of the lap bars and much less arm/hand fatigue over the course of the day. Again, different strokes for different folks. I'm in West Virginia. Lots of slopes & dangerous terrain. Big open areas, I'm still using sit down zero turns. Slopes, nothing sticks better and is as safe as a walk behind. Best of luck in your decision brother.

    Just about every manufacturer has their finger in the stand on mower pie, they all use the same engines, wheel motors, pumps etc. It’s really all about the design (deck lift, tire size, wheel base, durability and “the little things”) I think they all cut well-I mow my lawns at least twice so I get that glass-like effect, but I guess I’m partial to Ferris, there’s just something I like about the z2, my guys love them too-about have to yank them off the lawns
    They treated me right on a warranty issue as well.

  • @thatrealba
    @thatrealba 6 лет назад +1

    In my area, I have never even seen a Ferris. We have Toro/ExMark, a few VenTracs, a few Walkers, they try to sell Husqvarna, and you see tons of John Deeres. That's pretty much it. I definitely agree with buying the biggest power you can afford. One year into my old business, I found that I kind of liked doing the overgrown stuff. Lots of my stuff ended up being 4'-8' tall. I didn't use mowers for that, of course, but so much stuff was 2-3' and I certainly needed a powerful mower for that.
    Tractability is a word, but it is used in the engineering of heavy earth moving equipment, like motor graders. It has to do with the ability of the machine to maintain full traction and forward momentum when loading up to capacity with material. I suppose the word could be applied to mowers.

    John Deere QuikTrak (Made by Wright) or a Wright ZK or Wright X. Best stand on mowers on the planet. Spec for Spec they've been one the best on the market for years. Only downside is the deck, certain people claim poor cut quality but I believe that's a lie. I had to run them myself to see and it stripes better than anything I've used (haven't tried Scag or Exmark). Check out Saving Green or Top Notch. They run the ZK's.

    One of the thing s I noticed is that the deck moved up and down independent from the motor, i would think that would put added stress on the belts, The wright stander machine they move together so the belts are always aligned to reduce maintenance.

    Been waiting for this one, great points. I'd have one already if it wasn't for the hard to lift deck (we have quite a few uneven yards) and lower cut quality then the Scag velocity deck, I'd also like to see the deck cut height go to 5 1/2. I'm still up in the air about this one, it's a really nice machine. Would you rather stand on this then sit on a TT2? Is a stand on worth it for the time savings using a backpack blower on it?

      I got my first ferris 3 years ago and a second one 18 months ago. Have 800 hours between the two ferris mowers I have. I don't have the oil guard and have the Kawasaki motors on them. 35 horse on the 61" and 24 horse on the 48". Other than oil changes, some blades, and a single belt I have never had to fix or replace a thing. I completely agree with you about the cut, it's not "the absolute best" cut quality but on most of my weekly yards I'm double cutting for debree anyways so it really don't even notice. Nothing stripes better than a ferris though. The comfort, traction, usability, reliability and toughness of a ferris is top notch! My only "minor complaint" is with the beefy tires and width of the mower you can't really dip the trim side of the deck under shrubs or between fence posts to cut down on some trimming. But that's not to big of a complaint because you are trading mowing a few extra inches under stuff for superb traction on slopes. I'll take that trade any day. Like I said. I love them and will never buy anything else

    I like the Ferris Z3X over the scag V-Ride 2 overall. However, you can’t really go wrong with either as they are both great machines. Scag wins in deck and some other areas, and Ferris has their good features also. The wright stander is also a good one, but with what you’re mowing (small residential) it really doesn’t make any sense for you to go that route unless the dealer is your neighbor or something.

    Hey Brian! Love the video, but here is something to think about too. That mowers engine is way beyond the norm. I wish we could have seen the “step down” version-x2? That’s more on par w what everyone uses on the day to day subdivision homes. :). Keeping the engine sizes the same might be a truer comparison.

    As much as I love Scag, this Ferris is awesome! For a high hour user like you, I think features like the oil gaurd system, shock absorber platform and pivoting front end would edge me towards the Ferris

    If you do buy a stander, are you going to keep the exmark for bagging fall cleanups, or will the stander replace the exmark all together? Honestly, If you purchase a new stander, I bet it’s going to be red.

    Worked for a guy that had 2 Ferris Z2s and 2 Wright stand-ups. I worked 50 yards with 90% on the lake so all yards sloped toward the water, some way more extreme than others. The Ferris could be taken deck first down any slope with no sliding or gain of speed and at the lake would make every turn, best tranny I ever used on a mower. The Wrights always wanted to get away going down extreme slopes. But the main issue I had with the Wrights is the owner put the bicycle set accessory on them and the back is not made to push down on the pad while sitting. So he used the 52 and 61 inch Wrights while I used the 52 and 61 in Feriss' . I'd take a Ferris stand-up any day and will never use a back killing sitter ever again.

  • @mccool24

    I’m curious as to why the striping kit wasn’t mentioned when mentioning the really nice stripes it left. I think that would be worth mentioning since it wasn’t stock on the mower. But hey not a hater bc I been looking forward to the Ferris review.

    Hey Brian, I just hit 1,500 lawn care subscribers and lately I've been getting calls for texts from them because I've showed my lawn signs in my videos. Do you have this issue and if so, how do you handle it? I had one kid call me at 1 in the morning (woke me up because I forgot to turn off the ringer) and it was a lawn care question :/

    Ferris has come a long way. Ran then from 11'-17'. I loved the 3100, disliked the 2100, love the standers however they (ferris) uses the wrong tires. Throw some kendas on there and they are hill stickers! Heavy machines but i like them. Currently i believe the ferris standers are top 3 in the game, scag, ferris n wright (still unsure about wright decks)
