Hauling less weight than the hotshots will pay dividends as the truck gets older, less wear and tear. Plus you maintain it well.

And forgot how much depreciation he took off of his truck? Is it worth about $30,000 less?... Yes, a new truck is nice, with a warranty, and hopefully less breakdowns, but you take huge depreciation losses... Buying a used truck is a risk, but they have already depreciated a crap ton... For example, I got into this gig with a 7-year-old pick up with 120,000 mi on it... It treated me pretty decent, a year later it had 300,000 mi on it when it was totaled... It had depreciated about $5,000, but I already had it paid off..... if you are thinking about getting into this gig, do yourself a favor, and do not buy a brand new truck... If you have a cdl, Maya good used semi for $20,000, and a low profile trailer and you will make twice as much money and not have to drive as much, plus you will have a decent place to sleep

A big savings over H/S is you have no trailer payment or trailer maintenance and repair costs which are a big expense in H/S, Also, no loadboard expenses, no factoring fees, no dispatch fees, and no company cut for pulling under their numbers. So 75k is not bad money. Comparing H/S and RV Transport is not a pure apples to apples comparison. Like you pointed out; RV transport is a simple process, easy to get into and relatively straight forward, and except for the traffic jams and that Da#%m ELD, it is pretty stress free. H/S is anything but stress free. The only thing consistent about H/S is it is completely inconsistent from A to Z. Except for the fact that the brokers are consistently playing you. You would be hard pressed to find a more cut throat business than H/S. I take it you probably have other income streams, so you don't have to squeeze every penny out of every load just to pay the bills back home. RV Transport may not have as much "potential" as H/S. Who cares. You are in the right niche my friend. Simple, consistent and stress free beats a few pennies per mile every time. It allows you to enjoy life a little more. I say congrats on a very successful first year !!!

Curious to know what actual running cpm are after fuel, maintenance, insurance and truck payment. I’d guess you’re ballpark of .38-.45 cpm for all running miles.
Then for those who’ll need health insurance that’s an added monthly expense.
So this isn’t a job where you’ll get rich by any means. But you are your own boss and work when you want and go where you want to a certain extent.

These questions have been answered multiple times in multiple videos I’ve done. To be honest I’ve never sat down and figured out my absolute rate per mile because it’s going to vary greatly. I have had weeks where I dead head less than 100 miles, I’ve had weeks where I dead head 2,000 miles. It all depends on the load board.

@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 I was thinking perhaps you had all the numbers available in this video. Gross wages divide by total mileage is roughly .82 cpm for all miles. Factoring in expenses I’m guessing it drops more than half to .40 cpm.
I think having that true number after all expenses might give some a more reasonable idea of what to expect. Granted each persons situation is and will always be different. However knowing that some might rethink the step I’ll be it a big one to pull campers

I spend between $100 and $250 on maintenance per month. Depending which stage I’m at as far as what’s getting replaced. Tires last over 90k miles and are right about $1,000. As I stated in my reply you can’t determine a “solid rate per mile” because your dead head changes every time. I try to be as realistic as possible which is why I have done several videos on maintenance costs, but I’m fairly certain your .40 guess is way off

@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 .40 cpm x’s 140,000 miles is $56,000. You were at $75K before you even mentioned maintenance. So yeah .40 is definitely within the ball park perhaps the infield when factoring the extras
