The back of my dodge isn’t exactly appealing to sleep in haha. Looking at grabbing a Cdl truck maybe go that route so I can sleep better. I want this occupation to work so badly lol

I am going to go Haul and Tow setup. In my expertise I have gained with vehicle securement years ago using a rollback wrecker (tow truck)It only makes "cents" to go with Tow and Haul. It makes a sound judgement on the owners behalf to eliminate/lessen your losses by having a backhaul. I like your content, and increased video editing Shawn. I hope to see you out there soon.

I understand the 11 hours a day rest for 10. after 8 hours take a 30 minute break. I just don’t understand how you get home without using part of your 70 hours.
That’s the unfortunate part of the ELD and no way of “editing” things to work in your favor!!

I’m not sure if any smaller companies out of FL. I’d say if you’re wanting to be in it full time and travel for several weeks then go home, you’d still make some decent money running like that!

No, you just have to run it through the company you’re leased on with! It takes a little more time with coordinating it than if you could do it all on your own, but you don’t have any of the headaches with having your own credentials!
How would one find RV loads to pull.?
Are there specific load boards needed to find loads I'm assuming so. What are the names of those load boards? Also, I'm assuming I would need to start an LLC? Do you need a CDL? Are RV haulers subject to DOT rules and regulations?

You'd be able to for sure...It would just depend on how much of a time commitment the training required and how much you were looking to haul with RV Transport.
Great videos! I have called the recruiting lines on 3 of the big rv hauling companies and they are not near as helpful as your videos. I am looking into doing this as a side job as I work Monday thru Friday but 2 of the hauling companies have told me their drivers can pick up but not deliver on the weekends. What has been your experience with making weekend deliveries?
I truly appreciate the kind words!!! Between myself and the other awesome RUclipsrs out there, most topics are covered and have a different perspective from each! Weekend deliveries are kind of hard to find! Back during the huge Covid rush I believe all Camping Worlds were open for Saturday drops but that's not really the case anymore! A few dealerships have 24/7 drops but I'm not sure where they all are...

The medium duty truck is the way to go. It cost about the same as a 1 ton dually but way more capable.

Are you using a semi? If you are hauling with a pickup how do you go about back hauls to head back close to Elkhart or whatever are someone needs to go back to?
I now have a medium duty truck (freightliner M2) and with the multi haul divisions they let you have access to central dispatch and can book your own backhauls through the company!
@@WeekendTruckin I gotcha so I guess if you were doing strictly single pull with a pickup the only way to get a back haul is if you find something you can hookup to through a dispatch board or a app like uship?
For the most part, yes! I think there’s a few companies that have a decent back haul board!
@@matthewmills1347 Someone can confirm or tell me I'm wrong, but in looking into this, I was told that if you are leased to an rv transport, you would need to have your own authority to do back hauls unless its through the company you are leased to.

Hey, thanks for the feedback! I got it a few months back now and surprisingly it wasn't too horrible of a transition. Haul and Tow definitely requires more work and the potential for more issues to arise, but it's not too bad! I take no offense to you feedback, thanks for sharing!

Hey Todd! I'd ask yourself, what's his/her outlook on most things in general? I say that because I come into with zero experience and a truck/rig that has over 700k miles on it when I got it and it's the best thing I've done to date with this new endeavor. The only pain is that you have an ELD!

Hey Chris! My truck fully fueled is at 14k and the haul and tow campers gvwr totaled is never over 10k. The heaviest I’ve seen on a scale loaded is around 21k

Thanks for commenting! If you're running your 70 hour clock out- which you can run WAY more than that as a single pull guy since you get to manually enter your logs!!! You could put over $75-85k in your pocket after fuel and a maintenance funds savings (which would be cash just in a savings account for your maintenance and breakdowns). That 75-85k would then cover your bills which would include your truck and insurance payments! You could do more than that too, but I'd assume you'll take time off over the year and there will be some breakdowns that happen along with slow times for hauling throughout the year!

@@davidburchell2882 this was 2022, I got in from April to July. Bought a new fully loaded night edition Cummins and ended up losing 30k by the time I sold the truck and all my equipment. Everything fell off a cliff after July 4th and none of the hauls were worth leaving my house because of fuel prices and low rates that didn’t compensate for the increased fuel. Nightmare industry but respect to those who make it work

No commercial insurance? Does IT pay your insurnace or did you mean no cargo insurance. I pull singles and I have to have the unladen and comp/collision.
I have unladen insurance, too- but I'd assume I was talking/referencing how we don't have to have a true commercial policy (for the cargo) as it's paid for by the company!
That's what I thought. My wife heard you say that qnd then the questions started flying, "why are we paying for commercial insurance and he's not" honey, he's paying commercial insurance, well he said he wasn't, etc.... so I had to ask yo clarify for her

How old can the vehicle be to be used for transport?
I feel it vetoes from company to company but 5-10 years is a good general rule of thumb. I’d just ask each company you’re looking at leasing on with!
Horizon goes back to 2000 and older with an inspection on a case by case basis.

That's a great question! I think most companies require a 3/4 ton or larger but maybe there's smaller companies that allow 1/2s...

I'm with Indiana Transport. I believe their min. age is 25. I had a subscriber mention there's companys that have a min. age of 23... I can't validate that but it's worth a look around if you're not 25 yet!

Sean, great info brother!!! Got an idea, of I were to get a smaller gooseneck, say a tilt deck, etc etc, and about a 20’ ish...that could work as well. I could haul a smaller camper up top, and pull another tagalong style behind it. Then backhaul a car t whatever off of central back to wherever correct?
I'm not sure if you'd be able to make that work in terms of hooking a trailer up to a trailer though, but the way to make the most money is to have a trailer and do 3-4 campers outbound and then a few cars each backhaul!

Yea! I’d look at the Max length of a non cdl trailer just to maximize your potential earnings!
Most companies will not hire a gooseneck and the ones who will want a 46ft deck.

Hey Steve! It had over 700k on it as a whole. The engine was rebuilt to some capacity around 200-300k miles ago and the owner before me, had a new/rebuilt transmission put in it when he got it. So far, it's just been little things that need addressed with it but nothing that's a huge time or money commitment! One thing I like about the H&T division is that 15% maintenance account builds up pretty fast because of the higher gross rev. for each trip!!!

How much were you actually making when you were doing the single pulls because I know you said and others have said there’s a lot of deadhead miles doing the single pulls there’s not much back hauls

I was on pace to take home $75k with my 3-ish days a week pulls with only doing outbound pulls.
Just because it’s not ideal or a trucker no no, in terms of driving unloaded, there’s still money to be had in RV Transport while only driving out bounds. Part of what makes it profitable is the lack of overhead! A truck payment and unladen insurance are your two fixed expenses to be operational!

@@timkinder906 you can make as much money doing Power Only with a semi. You pull new empty trailers or loaded trailers depending on who you’re leased on to. It’s not forced dispatch as you own your own truck. (Rv transport requires you to pull minimum 1 a month I believe ) . Forced to pull something once a month seems much like being an employee for a company. I just prefer to be my own boss.
A 3-4 year old semi with 300,000-400,000 miles can be bought for mid $50,000. Then you’re able to pull both ways and get paid for any dead head required to each load. Plus most will pay a fuel surcharge which is adjusted weekly.
Every professional driving job has its ups and downs but for me semi is the best of all

I would like to do it but I'm not sure how the RV industry is doing right now. I live a couple hours away from you and I drive a semi truck for a living. I haven’t tried them but have heard of the company! If I’m not mistaken they may have more of a robust back haul board?
To be honest, I don’t have enough experience in the industry to know how it compares but I know I’m out on a load every week and the multi haul boards never really dipped down like the single pulls did a few months back.
I feel it’s something good to get into but that’s a question each person has to ask themselves and access their situation along with the risks and rewards of the new endeavor!
I think if you went with a semi and a trailer to do multi hauls even if it “slowed up” you still have a semi and a trailer that would give you flexibility on other options if needed!
Overall I feel it’s doing well from what little info I have and just talking with others. But there will be set slow times in general throughout the year I’ve heard.

Even the semi truck driving industry can have its ups and downs even though there's usually a big demand for drivers.

Good video! I have been watching your videos for a few weeks now. I use to do single pulls for a company out of Indiana. And also had my own MC and DOT when they were slow and for my back hauls or could take what was paying more. Was really looking into moving up to multiple units on a trailer but my home state were we were based out keep hiking our insurance up for real no reason. No tickets or MVA’s in the four years I did it. So I could afford to continue operating when more money was going to insurance company then into my bank account. My question is how does your company that gives you there DOT numbers handle your back hauls from central dispatch? Are they getting them or are you and do you have to get them to approve the pick up? And with your tow and haul are u running ELD’s. Thanks keep the videos coming.
Hey Tom!
The company lets you use their credentials with backhauls on central dispatch and they take 15% off the top of it. It's kind of a pain because it does have to run through the office people before you're officially dispatched on it, so booking when the office is closed, is a no go. You book it and let the inventory dept. know you have a central dispatch load coming through so they can accept it and push it to you with all the paperwork you need.
I'd almost guess you'd break even if you had your own credentials and com. insurance just for backhauls. With the multi-haul division and a trailer, that's where you're able to make the most money with this!!!
Yes, I have to run an ELD since I haul more than just one camper and vehicles now. There's definitely a learning curve from manually entering your logs to using an ELD.
