Not to be brand specific, but....I like Ram with the 6.7 Cummins. The only thing I wish I had was the Aisin Transmission. I drive the 2018 Ram 2500 Laramie and I pull a Grand Design Reflection that weighs 10,600 dry. The power of the Cummins is really good and it’s easy to work on. Once you take off the cover on the engine, everything is accessible. If I could afford any dually, I mean any, I would still stay with the Ram. I do wish though they would make the front axle wide like Ford’s. You cannot beat that turning ratio on the ford. Good Luck!
For towing the power of the ford you just can't beat it the Rams are second place for towing. But the they have had the 6.7l so long and the inline 6 very reliable motor. The gm the alison transmission is one of the best built trannys out there. They all have there pros and cons. I'd meet in the middle with the ram. Plus the reseller value is amazing on the ram. Once I get a new trailer I'm getting the ram. And you can always get tuners for it as well if you want a bit more power. Definitely if you get the ram. Get the Aisin transmission with the high output motor. Regular Chrysler transmission is not the greatest transmission. Good luck on your alls search for a truck.
I'm personally looking at these trucks for my toy hauler, and right now it's either an F-450 or a Ram 3500 max cab long bed. I haven't given GM a look in years after so many issues with ambulances and work trucks sitting on Chevy 3500 Duramax chassis.
I think Rams are such amazing trucks nowadays and seem to have lots of little features you would never expect, that make life much easier and come to love. Very exciting watching you guys in the process of a new rig. I'm a die hard chevy guy but cant ignore the fact that they've slumped since '07 across the lineup. Good luck!
I personally would go New RAM (disclosure, I have owned 2 HD RAM’s and love them!). The warranty, financing options, latest safety tech etc. would be my number one reason for choosing this option. Many mechanic friends with loyalty to all the different brands have told me they all have their good points and their problems and it almost works out the same in the end. Good luck shopping! Love your channel!
I have an F350 SRW with 6.7 turbo Diesel with an 8’ bed. I pull a 42’ 5th wheel Montana that goes gvwr of 16900. I live in Pa where there are a lot of mountains, this truck has no problems, doesn’t get hot going up the mountains like you said your present truck does. I’ve been in the transportation industry for about 43 years and I really like my Ford!
I have a 2017 ram 3500 limited and I have a 43 foot 23,000 lbs camper and I have had no problems and I have had 2 Dodge Cummins trucks before this one and and they both are at over 500,000 miles and still running I would say your stupid to not go with a Cummins you will have a great reliable truck. Cummins is know for its reliability and it’s know for its Inline 6 that is amazing for pulling overall its you decision and your money but Cummins has served me and my friends and my family and many others around the world great luck!
We were always Chevy people but now have a Ford and absolutely love it. So comfortable and pulls our trailer like a dream. I am the passenger and a nervous traveler and the Ford works for me. We do a 36 ft trailer, Hensley Hitch and the Ford. Perfect combination. Thanks for always being so real on your channel.
We just bought a new Ram 2500 after looking at all the brands. I can say at least in DFW the Ram dealers were much more willing to deal than GM or Ford, we ended up getting 16k off of a 19 model Mega Cab Cummins.
My wife and I have a 2020 Luxe Elite. I ordered my truck last year and received it in May of 2019. I had 5 Ford Trucks. 3 F-150's 2001 2010 2018. 2019 F-250 and 1 Ford F450. Loved them all.
We have a 2019 F350 King Ranch LWB DRW...9.5 MPG pulling a 16,500 lb. Grand Design 5th Wheel Solitude...Make sure what ever pickup you go with the GVWR and tow capacity meets your needs!
I realize that this Video is 2yrs old. My wife and I bought a 2018 Chevy 3500 HighCountry HD Duelly. In July of 2021. My turning radius is just like a small car. I was very impressed. 😊Mileage 44,721. Have 69,000 now 2-23-2023. Only problem is you absolutely have to use Diesel fuel additive for lubrication. I have an extended Warranty. The fuel parts alone was $5000. I watch all your Videos. Love both of you 😊😊😊
I also follow JD, and I agree with what he said. My local RAM dealer gave me a price about 10% off MSRP on my first visit. Also, even JD says all the current duallies are pretty even as far as capability, so if you really like one brand, you can't go wrong. Good luck with your search. Stay healthy. Safe travels!
Douglas Tong I got a quote a while back from Dennis Dillon on a 2018 RAM 3500 Laramie diesel/AISIN crew cab 4wd dually and it came in at $13-14K under MSRP. No muss, no fuss, no negotiation, no games. Took quote to local dealer to see if he could come close, as I’d rather buy local if the price is close to comparable. Best the local dealer could do was about $6K off MSRP. I’d fly to Idaho any day to save $7K on a new truck.
We have a 2000 V 1O Ford that just wasn't doing the job and was uncomfortable to boot. Ended up buying a low milage 2012 Ram 3500 long bed just to pull the camper. It's a much better ride, pulls like a dream, and no DEF. We're loving it. Good luck in your search.
I have owned Chevy trucks since i was 22yrs old. Not going to say how old i am now lol, but i have had 5 different Chevy trucks since. After buying my first tt and towing it for 1 season with a 1500 half ton Silverado i realized i needed to upgrade to 3/4 ton truck at least. After many trips to MANY dealers i am now driving a F250 Superduty diesel and love it. Here i thought i was brand loyal all those years. Point is get what you like, and can afford, but most important what you know will handle that big beautiful 5th wheel. Good luck and i absolutely loved the video. Looking forward to seeing what you end up with. Safe travels.
I had a 2011 ford and my mother in law works for chrysler as i was shopping for a new truck i couldnt pass up buying a left over new 2018 model while saving over $20,000 with incentives plus employee pricing we got a 2500 6.7 cummins and i wasnt sold on it at first but i have fell in love with the truck tows like no other definetly glad we bought it.
I drive a 2016 f250 3/4 ton and we have a 2013 primetime crusader 355bhq. 41' bunkhouse but my pin weight is only 1800. My truck has helper bump stops and it is not the most stable ride. I love what he told you about the wide track steering in the f450, as a 3 time powerstroke owner, 7.3, 6.4, and now the 6.7. The 6.7 powerstroke 13 and up are game changers for us that pull... Ford all the way!!!
We bought a RAM 3500 High Output SRW with the aisan transmission Laramie ( lots of bells and whistles ) tows over 24000 lbs. has the self leveling bed, surround camera and 1000 lbs of torque ....... Dealer took 18k off the sticker. Were only at 16k miles on it, no problems. It tows our 14lb 5th wheel and does a great job doing it.
I selected the Ram after owning Fords and Chevy's my whole life. My last 3 trucks have been Ram's 2002 1/2T 6cyl stick, that one was cheap I bought a leader truck new for only 13K, then in 2005 I upgraded to a 2006 model 3/4 T longbed 4 door Cummins because I was pulling a 30' TT. I bought a 2015 I bought a 39' Montana 5th wheel and my truck I added airbags to it and it was really on the outer parameters of the truck capability. In 2018 I was able to afford to buy a Ram 1T DRW longbed 4 door, Cummins Laramie with the tow/haul package. It has a very tight turning radius, set up really nice for towing, very comfortable seating, especially for those long drives. The deciding factor for me was my son's dad who is a diesel mechanic advised me against the Ford in 2005 because their valves in their diesels could not be adjusted and the Cummins could. So there you have it, basic maintenance, a valve adjustment, could not be done. So I took the leap to the Cummins. Now I would not have any other truck. I am extremely happy with the 2018 Ram 1T DRW, long bed (no slider hitch), quad cab Cummins that I have. I have the 4.10 rear end and sure it gets a little less mileage than my 2006 Cummins and I have to put the DEF in it, but the trade off is well worth it. It is a real pleasure driving the truck everyday use and when I pull that 5th wheel, you barely feel it and it is solid, even in winds, rain, curves, grades and so forth. I don't think they are selling a lot of cars right now so they may be willing to give you some great deals. Do not discount a new truck, they might be able to make it financially within your means. Never hurts to ask. Safe travels to you and whatever you get, make sure it feels right when your in the seats.
Love your channel, glad to hear you are safe.... We just purchased a 2020 381m and a 2019 RAM 3500 dually and it really tows well. We did look into the F450, but the price was much higher and we really liked the interior of the new RAMs compared to the Fords. Stay safe and healthy....
I had been a Chevy truck owner for a couple of decades, and then switched to a Ford 3/4 ton back in the 90's. I owned it from brand new, and had it for 17 years, and took exceptionally good care of it, and still got a good $ for it when I sold it. Since I had such good luck with it, I went with a Ford F450 in 2012 with a 2009 King Ranch, added a programmer, and it had about 500+ horsepower, and pulled our slide in Arctic Fox camper & slide, for several years, and our 18' trailer behind that with toys. It was the most comfortable truck I'd ever owned, had all the options one could want, and....as you've seen, the turning radius was amazing! Two years ago, I ended up selling my truck, which was hard to do as we both loved it, but decided to go with a diesel pusher motorhome, so the 'need' for the truck changed, and again I got an excellent deal when I sold it. So now the comfort of the motorhome (Tiffin) is our means of travelling in comfort, and the first time in decades that I've not had a truck! I had great luck with my Chevy's (gas) and great luck with my (diesel) Fords. My brother has a 2015 Ram, and he's had numerous recalls, and more issues than I'd ever put up with, but he loves it, so truly it's hard to go wrong with any of the brands now, so long as you do your research. Don't be afraid of going a good distance if you find the perfect truck (I went over 2000 miles for my F450) as I had particular options I wanted, and went the distance to get each and every one of them, and it worked out for me! Best of luck you two, and stay safe!
Went through this process recently. Pulling a 16,000 5th wheel toy hauler. Had a 2006 GMC Duramax short bed. Did the job, but upgraded to a used 2015 Ram with the Aisin. The Ram had just under 50,000 miles, tradesmen package with all the tow options and 3.73 gears. Drove from Utah to Kellogg Idaho after looking for 6 months to pick it up. Under 41,000. Very happy with the purchase, the only complaint is the turning radius, but you guys already know this coming from an 8 foot 4 door dually. These new trucks are very impressive.
Great review and discussion with JD. We did a LOT of RUclips surfing and watched a bunch of videos before we mad a decision. The discussion between JD and KYD was my favorite and helped me decide on the truck we now own. While the new Chevy/GMC trucks have more towing capacity, I wasn’t impressed with the fact that they (the manufacturer) didn’t do anything to spruce up the interior over previous models. The RAM dually was a major contender, however the dealers in our area (Columbus, OH) only had two or three on their lots so we never did find a truck with all the bells and whistles we wanted. Richard Ford, just north of Groveport, OH, had a couple dozen dually’s and at least a dozen F-450 2019 models on the lot. JD’s right, after driving the 2019 F-450 none of the other vehicles we test drove were anywhere close to the handling capabilities that the F-450 had. My wife has a Lexus 400H (hybrid) and believe it or not, the F-450 Limited Edition actually rides quieter than her Lexus does. Granted the truck is a much firmer ride, but I actually enjoy the comfort and all the features that came with that truck over any of the previous trucks I’ve owned. Additionally she actually doesn’t mind driving the truck, but hasn’t had the chance to drive it with our 43 foot 2020 Riverstone Legacy attached yet. Best of luck in your new Truck Journey and please don’t skimp on the power end of the Truck+RV equation.
Had them all go with the f350 or f450! You won’t regret it! I know tow ratings and all the safety Jazz the tow police always talk about. But even the single rear wheel trucks will pull your trailer fine. But I’d recommend a dually especially since you guys are fulltiming and towing a lot. The big difference with all the new trucks from what you have is the don’t heat up and struggle to tow the big trailer. The are designed to pull the heavy weight and not overheat and be as stressed.
In 2017 I had an pretty bad fall and broken my leg among other injuries. But I layed in bed for 2 years researching which truck to get to haul my camper. I ended up getting a 2019 ram 3500 high output Cummins with the Aisin transmission. Love it but if you go with ram Don't get the 68rfe transmission, they just had a recall on them, definitely get the Aisin with 1,000ft lbs torque. Good luck guys and stay healthy 👍
Okay just to put my two cents in. I have a 2007 Dodge Dually mega cab. When I bought it at 20,000 miles on it 5 9 Cummins with the six-speed manual. The thing I like about the Cummins the most is it is an inline 6 now look at most semis they are all inline 6 nowadays. The inline 6 will give you more bottom-end torque than any V8 could ever do from the factory. Now you want to talk about longevity. When I bought this truck with only 20,000 miles on it it had pulled campers around to dealers from the factory I purchased it and hooked it up to a 40-foot gooseneck flatbed trailer. Between the trailer and the truck it was licensed to gross 36000 lb. It never once faltered in any way shape or form being loaded down. If I went out west through the mountains I would drop maybe one gear. Oh and I'm running 3:55 gears in the rear end. My truck currently has are you ready for this 523000 on it and still running strong. Doesn't matter what I say or anybody else says ultimately it's what you two prefer. Best of luck and God bless.
Best of luck and miles when searching for your New Dually Truck. I own a 2008 Cheveolet Silverado with Duramax Diesel & Allison Transmission. 160K miles. 4X4. Wouldn’t trade or sell unless I had to. I maintain the maintenance service. Have never had a major problem. Bought it from a friend while still in college, I knew I had to have “that” truck. It pulls my RV and horse trailer. Love the Quad cab and space. Especially the 8’ bed. Praying for your journey to your new truck. Happy Trails!!
JD was referring to Dennis Dillon in Caldwell, Idaho. That is a suburb of Boise. But the world's largest Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram dealer is Dave Smith in Kellogg, Idaho. They are up in the panhandle east of Spokane, Washington.
I’ve had one Chevy and 3 dodge trucks all new but my opinion for has the most comfort and power. I’m now a proud owner of an f350 dually. Tows like a dream
Yes, buy new! I searched and searched with in a budget for a good used vehicle, but in the end I purchased new do to the dealer/factory discounts. I also shopped for features and needs of the vehicle with an open mind. In the end landed on a rig I love and it can do all I needed it to do and more, only spent 3k more than I intended to but feel really good about my decision.
Hey guys! Great video!! I own a contracting business for over a decade and have ran all the major truck brands on my business full time. Here’s what I can tell you... They all break, Dodge, Ford, GMC and Chevrolet. They all have short comings. We tow anywhere from 6k to 32k lbs 3-5 times a week with our work trucks and what I learned the hard way is, ALWAYS have a warranty. If you plan on keeping the truck for 5 years, make sure you have a warranty to cover you bumper to bumper for those 5 years. That’s what we do and I sleep like a baby every night. BTW, we currently own 2 GMC 3500 DRW and 2 F350 DRW. Good luck 👍🏽
I decided in 2018 to upgrade my truck to a dually . After several test drives I decided on a Ram 3500 with the cummins diesel. Best thing I ever did. This trucks MPG is 18 / 14. Pulling a 27 ft camper 10K weight was around 12 MPG. Well we could not just stay with it so we decided to get a fifth wheel. This one we got has a dry weight of between 14k and 15k. Loaded 17.5k. This Ram pulls it fine. I get around 10 mph. I have yet to fine a hill I can not pull. They also gave me a great deal on it cutting the price 15K to get me to buy. Good luck in your search but make sure you get the one you want and do not cut corners on options. Make sure your happy with it before buying. Jim & Jan The Flip Flop way of life
We bought new 2019 Ram 3500 crew cab, 8Ft bed 4x4 dually with 1000 ft pounds of torque with the AISIN transmission for $50G It's rated at just under 34000 all in. We love it
Don’t forget a Freightliner they make fifth wheel for rvs now since he’s recommending a F450 might as well go gigantic and get something that will pull 65000 that way you’re way safe
totally agree, the Freightliner (single dual rear wheels) will last much longer than any Ford,Dodge or Gm. You can literally put around 1,000,000 miles on the International before having to rebuild the engine or transmission. Much stronger built too.
Paul Rodrigues Yes this is true however the freightliner will last 3 times longer tow way more and its all class8 build not something that wants to be but isn’t
Here in CA, in French Camp on I-5. I saw some 400k mile 2 axle tractors with a 48 sleeper. These are trucks that go a million miles or more before overhaul. And can tow a 60,000# plus trailer. So a 20,000# trailer would be like driving empty. Of course an air brake endorsement to a class licence may be required in your home state. Some states will allow a tractor registered as a recreational vehicle to not have a class A license. But a new Ram 4500 tradesman chassis cab could work too.
Car Gurus! I looked long and hard before buying my 2013 RAM Dually with the HO Cummins/Aisin power package 3 years ago. At the time, Car Gurus always had the most complete listings from coast to coast. By the way, I paid less than $42k. Even the bottom of the line “Work Truck” with the HO package was nearly $50k with every discount I could find.
Plus you have to buy a 2020 to get a 50 gallon fuel tank which is a option.2019 below only have 36 gallon fuel tank I believe . My f450 has 48 gallon fuel tank
BTBRV covers a host of scenarios and is the best on this site... you guys are so lucky to have him on side... AND at least you're not pretending to know it all like other channels... BTW Ford SuperDuty 2020 is the way to go.... the 450 is JD's baby and should sell them as a living. peace
I have owned Ford, Chevy and Ram. All have been good, so far for me the Ram has had the least amount of issues. I think people may have had a bad experience in the past and it effects the future decisions they make. All brands have been improving their quality on a yearly basis. With that said, I would go for the best option you can get on a new vehicle. The quality of a vehicle made 7 years ago will not match the quality of vehicles made today.
If you guys are passing through St Louis MO and need to crash or want to drop camp, let me know, have 2 nice pull through spots on a quiet lake, close to the city
I have been a Ford man all my life and I have pulled small trailers to large 5th wheel, I inherited my father's dodge ram and was blown away at that cummings diesel as cummings has been nothing but diesel engines in tractors, semi's and pick ups.. the mileage has been fantastic. I bought a new 28 foot Grand Design Reflection and I purchased a 2016 Ram 2500 HD and couldn't be happier Chevy has never been able to haul the load that Ford and ram have been able to now is better for Chevy but when my friends and I go out and get firewood the ford and ram doesn't squat like the Chevy does. Love my Ram after being a Ford man for over 40 years...enjoy your shopping ..and good luck...Rick Madison
When Heather and Ross The Depreys on YOU TUBE had their Big 5TH Wheel Grand Design They hauled it with a semi tractor ( I think it was a freight liner) they called it " Size Matters " .
I just took delivery of an F-450 - mainly due to the weight of our camper (19K GWV) and, while my '17 F-350 DRW was OK with it, I didn't care for the 4:10 rears.. You're getting good info from that guy...
F450 w/ 6.7L is the gold standard in this class of trucks. 475 hp, 1050 ft lb makes it a behemoth. I’ve owned two F250’s with that engine and have towed a boat extensively with them. Moving from NC to MO I weighed in at 17000 lbs, got 14 mpg and didn’t even feel the weight behind me.
I wanted a ford but I am so glad I bought a Ram. I pull a 37 foot travel trailer. The ride on the Ram was much bettter then f250 I traded in. The difference is price was also in the thousands also a huge factor.
I can't wait for the next video in case you wondering what I'm driving I'm driving a 3500 ram 2018 I really love it, I can't wait to see what u are going to drive next.
We have a fleet of 2019 F550 at work, all are having problems with particulate filter sensors on all trucks. Engine light stays on for the most part, Ford still having a problem with a fix. God forbid if you interrupt a burn cycle. Hate DEF,
If money is a driving factor - just get the RAM Tradesman model with the high output package. Don't get someone else's problem. You are fulltime and need reliable transportation.
I have a sandpiper 41 foot. I just bought a Ram 3500 dually Cummins HO, ansin transmission, 373 rear ratio my truck is the tradesman but dressed up some. Tows like a dream
We have a 2009 GMC 1 ton, diesel, single rear axle, long bed, 4WD, it has 60,000 miles, has all of the extras and is looking for a new home, it is all set up to pull a 5th wheel. This truck has been well maintained, hate to get rid of it, but health is an issue, you know ("The Big C"). We also have a 2016 5th wheel with all of the extras, a Winnebago Destination 40 ft with 5 slides, only been lightly used, 5 trips, one long one and rest just local, it still has the plastic on the carpets. We life in Oregon if you are interested let me know.
I bought a 99 F250SD Lariat 7.3L Powerstroke when it was brand new. I knew I was going to pull a large 5th wheel (03 33ft 5th-Wheel Alumascape). I still have the truck. I have 240,000 miles on it and it is just now getting into some larger repairs - like the air-conditioning and the power steering pump (that thing whined from the first day I got it). The truck is still pulling our 5th-wheel, although now it is time to trade up.
Buying used, find a truck w/50k-60k on it. As mentioned in the video, if you buy a truck w/150k on it, you're buying a truck with half the life of it gone and you're just starting to drive it. With the toy hauler you're pulling, get a Ford F450 and head on down the road. There's not a bad brand in the bunch, but the F450 is a boss. Happy trails!
Wow turning a negative accident to. A POSITIVE learning experience!! Wow what a team and marriage!! Love you two. Life has its mishappens but you always got to give patience, that’s the hardest part to learn~patience. Love to see this exercised in your videos and with you two. Many Blessings Happy Trails from Tallahassee Florida. PS don’t be pressured to buy. Take your time. Lots of time. You have to love this other truck. As you did your last one. (As you know) sorry preaching to the choir..
I just bought a brand new 2019 RAM Tradesman 4x4 with Cummins Diesel. I haven't towed my 5th wheel yet, but I had to comment. A man I know is a diesel mechanic. He told me to stay away from the Ford Powerstroke diesel engines because he constantly sees them in the Shop with engine problems.
I have a 2014 Ram 3500 Dually Limited that I purchased new and have around 30,000 miles on it. Always garaged and always baby'd, it looks better than new with custom wheels, I have entertained the idea of selling it because I really don't need it and looking to get into a short bed single rear wheel.
We have a 2016 F350 CC DRW. The only issue we have is the turning radius. With an almost 40’ 5th wheel behind us the poor turning radius can be an issue at times. I seem to have figured it out but sometimes it takes longer to get into a spot. The 450 is the way to go if you want a good turning radius. I do like the simplicity of the Cummings 6 cylinder. Have fun in your search.
My husband went to Dennis Dillon in Boise Idaho for his Ram truck! He flew in and drove home. He got an awesome deal! I bet you could get a great price on a dually right now!
Henry Ford actually did not say that about black color being the only option. A salesmen said it. Actually they had 5-6 colors but with B&W photography they all looked black .
ABOUT TIME! I was hoping you would get hooked up with JD from 'Big Truck / Big RV'...…. Also...talk to YT-ers 'Less Junk / More Journey. They recently acquired a late model Ram Mega Cab dually for their new 5th wheel. They're down in the S/E right now.
My wife and I are going full-time in October. I have been watching every video on trucks. I have yet to make up my mind on which truck to buy. I'm going g to keep watching your videos to see which one you buy.
The decision is easy. I have GM Diesel trucks since 13 years. But for a Monster Trailer like yours there is a whole community out there, they buy Semi Trucks (used often cheaper than Dually's) Having said that JD is totally right. 1. you want as big of a truck as possible because of safety. Semi is the best. A 450 is good, normal Dually's, even if the numbers are saying its ok it is still a stretch, especially in the mountains and with strong wind. 2. you want the right gear ratio. At least in the 1 to 3.8 ratio. Better over 4.0. That gives you so much more torque, and runs cooler in the mountains. It burns a little more without a trailer, but you have the other car, so no issue for you. 3. talk to Keep your daydream or not but after he drove a 450 nothing else is comparable, because of the turning radius. IF you can do it, that is the truck. Has more of the weight limits, you are not maxed out etc. 4. the coronavirus will bring the sales to a screaming hold, because it will take min. 2 month before we all have an idea how it goes from here. In this uncertainty who makes decisions about a new truck. My point is that you should be easy from the middle to end of April find a dealer who is willing to give you around $ 20000 discount to get one truck moved from the lot. 5. if possible go with a new Ford with the 2020 engine. 465 hp But over 1050 torque!!!!!!!!. That is impressive, a game changer. 6. in addition you get the new 10 Speed transmission (Ford and GM developed together) with that you have always the right gear. But you need in addition the high gear ratio. Do not listen to the sales person telling you with the 10 speed that is not necessary. It is to get the real power for your Monster Trailer in the first 4 gears. 7. down here in Florida there is in Sarasota (looked up in auto trader) new F450 4x4 Crew Cap etc for $ 57200. If you subtract a $ 15000 + ..........A steel, or no brainer. 8. compare to a used one and all the unknown, warranties etc. they have so much more good stuff in the new trucks like 5 cameras, Bluetooth, etc. 9. the new are preset for the 5th wheel trailer hitch. No messy install later. 10. leasing and Financing gives you up to $ 2000 or better price. Even if you can pay cash tell that after the price is fixed. 11. try to sell you truck private if you can. You get a better price there. 12. do not buy any extended warranties. Factory are good enough for normal risk tolerance. I have no relation to any truck company and love my GMC. But if I would be in your shoes I would do what I wrote. Hope it helps. You can reach me under siegfried111@gmail.com
Guys I have had 5 fifths wheels and the best truck I have ever found to pull, have the torque and good turning radius is the Ford. I have gone from the 150’s to my current 2015 F250 6.7 andI love it. Had a 1997 7.3 dally that I loved. But it got banged up in an accident. My F250 6.7 2015 has been a dream and it is a 4x2. But, I keep up with my kids in their 4x4s. Go Ford best ever.
After posting my comment about my F350, and saw a lot of people talk about the F450. I think the 450 is an awesome truck. If you decide to get a 450 check your state registration and insurance because if it’s like where I live in Pa. it is considered a commercial vehicle and that means more money each year for registration and insurance. Just a thought. I really like you guys and hope to meet up with you on road someday! Take care and be safe!
Since your pulling a 43 foot trailer you might consider a USED single axle full sized tractor (think 18 wheeler with single rear axle). Some can even be set up to carry a small car behind the cab. They can be very inexpensive(much less than the over-rated insanely priced mid sized pickups), last 500k miles, plush, smooth riding, safer, excellent brakes, huge payload ect.
Thank you so much for your videos. I am looking to buy my first truck to tow our RV. After looking at specifications I am facine the price problem. I am glad to see that your are concern by the price too. Hope to see you some day on a campground
Thank you SO much for doing this video!! I had so many questioned answered on this video. I have already done a lot of research...and then I watched this and now I feel like all I read where cliff notes about trucks.🤣🤣
The best truck I've ever owned was a 2001 Dodge 2500 Cummins 5.9 Diesel, sold it at 300k miles, in 2017 I bought a new Dodge Ram 2500 6.7 Diesel and I love it. I think all three manufactures are good trucks these days but if I were you my preference would be the new Dodge RAM 3500 with 5th wheel Prep Package, towing capacity of 35,100 pounds with the Cummins 6.7 High-Output Turbo Diesel
I bought one of my truck at Dennis Dillion you can get a real nice truck there, I would have to agree with the guy on BTBRV and it doesn't have to be the top of the line it can be close and for what you guys will use it for you will get real good service and a pretty good long time, you need a good dependable truck for full-timing. Good luck and maybe soon you will have it.
I know that my company runs 550 dodge trucks. The truck weighs 20,000 empty. It hauls 700 gallons of sewage 300 gallons of water. 4x4 we run off road porta johns for the pipeliners. Got over 20,000 miles on them. They pull like a freight train. Just a great truck! The BOSS MANS truck has over 60,000 on it hauls a goose neck trailer with 20 pots on it all over the country no problems.
Well I am a Chevy guy but that 450 ford is very impressive and the turning radius is great ! I can’t believe I am saying this but If I was towing a big 5th wheel like yours I would buy the 450 ford !
The best truck , cheap maintenance, cheap parts , and lots of power for 20k 24k toy hauler would be a 2004 -2007 freightliner m2 or freightliner fl60/fl70 with the Cat c7 or Cat 3126 , don't have to worry about dps or def , l do own 4 trucks myself and don't have to worry about carry capacity and that thing very rare when it breaks
Here's something to think about, after you have narrowed it down to the truck you want, take it to another dealership and have them perform a complete inside and out vehicle inspection, this is worth the money spent, after you have your vehicle inspection report in hand, you can decide do I buy it or not and or negotiating with the dealer you are buying the truck from, on fixing the items that need fixing and the price you are willing to pay for it,

I agree with Nathan. In my research, Ford has the best towing capacity raw power
With as much as yall drive ditch the pick up truck and find you a small day cab semi truck pre def model and ride out never worry about it again.
I'm personally looking at these trucks for my toy hauler, and right now it's either an F-450 or a Ram 3500 max cab long bed. I haven't given GM a look in years after so many issues with ambulances and work trucks sitting on Chevy 3500 Duramax chassis.
Thanks for having me on your channel. Good Luck and stay safe my friend.
That’s great advice , Big Truck Big Rv You really know these diesel Trucks.
Thanks again JD for all the great information! We've been having fun truck shopping....well at least I have haha! - Tom
@@wetriedthisproductreviews8306 he has a channel, it's awesome
more BTBRV gold
We love our Ram 3500 Dually. Pulls our RV wonderfully.
That was the absolute best information I ever heard about trucks. Very honest trustworthy person
Awesome...fantastic segment of your channel
We just bought a new Ram 2500 after looking at all the brands. I can say at least in DFW the Ram dealers were much more willing to deal than GM or Ford, we ended up getting 16k off of a 19 model Mega Cab Cummins.
My wife and I have a 2020 Luxe Elite. I ordered my truck last year and received it in May of 2019. I had 5 Ford Trucks. 3 F-150's 2001 2010 2018. 2019 F-250 and 1 Ford F450. Loved them all.
2016 F350 6.7, DRW, LBCC. Drove 185,000 miles transporting RVs in past 15 months. Runs great and trouble free.
Love both of you 😊😊😊
Guys I have a 2019 Ford F-450 with 5600 miles. I love it. It has been the best truck I ever owned.
I would hope so. The new truck smell hasn't even left the vehicle yet.
10% off MSRP isn't great. It's average but not great.
@@MichaelBrown-kk6ck Thanks. I will definitely look into it.
My 2018 Chevy 2500HD 6.6 turbo diesel, never had problems with it , I only tow 9500gw 35 ft travel trailer but it fits what I need
Wow, it’s nice to have someone speak about trucks that is so informational!
I absolutely LOVE ...my 2017 F450 ...the turn capability IS AWESOME! ....now I know WHY!!!
I say check the specs on each truck to make sure it meets your requirements. Then drive them and buy the one that you like the best.
I’m a Ram guy, but any of the big 3 you can find a great truck. Good luck guys.
Grew up drivIng Chevys, but ‘my wallet loved the Ram. It’s been a great truck.
This is awesome! I have done years of research to establish what JD just outlined in one of your videos. Thanks for all your great content!
THIS IS your very most informative video you both have ever put out. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
My ex had a dodge diesel standard it pulled our heavy RV so good. Plus it got great gas mileage.
That's my truck
These trucks are all pretty close now. GM used to lag behind. But seem to be catching up. The Dodge for mid 30's, can't beat that!
If you do get what you want, you will always want what you didn’t get~
Yes, buy new!

The Flip Flop way of life
We bought new 2019 Ram 3500 crew cab, 8Ft bed 4x4 dually with 1000 ft pounds of torque with the AISIN transmission for $50G It's rated at just under 34000 all in. We love it
Where did you buy it at the price please? Do you have their number? Thanks👍🏻👊🏻
You could literally buy 2 "nice" F450's for the price of 1 Freightliner
Paul Rodrigues Yes this is true however the freightliner will last 3 times longer tow way more and its all class8 build not something that wants to be but isn’t
YEA THIS GUY IS A FORD SHILL & ITS PATHETIC!!!!!!
Dodge for sure! I pull a 37.5ft 5th wheel with a 2005 Dodge 2500 crew cab and love it!
Anybody else take notes when JD was talking?! Yes I follow his channel & Changing Lanes from the prior video.
Ford with the 6.7 but for the heck of it, test a 350 or 450 with the 7.3 gas and see what you think. Stay safe guys!
Absolutely love my 2019 F350
I can't wait for the next video in case you wondering what I'm driving I'm driving a 3500 ram 2018 I really love it, I can't wait to see what u are going to drive next.
Go with what that JD guy said.sounds like brand new with the discount that dealer offers might be the best move. Jayman...
We have a fleet of 2019 F550 at work, all are having problems with particulate filter sensors on all trucks. Engine light stays on for the most part, Ford still having a problem with a fix. God forbid if you interrupt a burn cycle. Hate DEF,
To big
If money is a driving factor - just get the RAM Tradesman model with the high output package. Don't get someone else's problem. You are fulltime and need reliable transportation.
We have a Ram 2500 that does a great job towing our 40 ft 5th wheel.
YEP!!!!
If I were in the same position I would consider selling the momentum and getting something my truck can pull and stay out debt. Good Luck.
Henry Ford actually did not say that about black color being the only option. A salesmen said it. Actually they had 5-6 colors but with B&W photography they all looked black .
No matter which truck you buy, by it to pull your rv. You’re looking for a work truck. Dependability and fuel mileage are the most important things.
Yeah so RAM
ABOUT TIME! I was hoping you would get hooked up with JD from 'Big Truck / Big RV'...….
Also...talk to YT-ers 'Less Junk / More Journey. They recently acquired a late model Ram Mega Cab dually for their new 5th wheel. They're down in the S/E right now.
good channel you have here. Picking a truck is head Damage. I have a Ram (Dodge name was gone long long ago) and like it alot. Good luck to you.
My wife and I are going full-time in October. I have been watching every video on trucks. I have yet to make up my mind on which truck to buy. I'm going g to keep watching your videos to see which one you buy.
Go with the f-450 you won’t be disappointed. The turning radius on them make it worth every penny when you have that size rig!!
The decision is easy. I have GM Diesel trucks since 13 years. But for a Monster Trailer like yours there is a whole community out there, they buy Semi Trucks (used often cheaper than Dually's)
Having said that JD is totally right.
1. you want as big of a truck as possible because of safety.
You will need to find 2016 or newer to get the right tow ratings.
Hey guys know the filling, ended going with a freightliner m2. Spent a lot time looking, but soooooo happy with it
After posting my comment about my F350, and saw a lot of people talk about the F450.
If you opt for a new truck, don’t forget that there’s a break-in period to go through before you can tow.
I love my 3500 SRW ram I didn't want a dually because I don't really need it but I had six rams in my life and my next one will be a ram.
Yep.. told ya. F450 is the way to go
Well I am a Chevy guy but that 450 ford is very impressive and the turning radius is great ! I can’t believe I am saying this but If I was towing a big 5th wheel like yours I would buy the 450 ford !
I'm so excited for you two and JD is "the" golden ticket !!!!!
Sounds awesome until you need to go to the laundromat sans tow.
@@celestepalm6949 big rvs have washer dryier on it or owner have golf cart
@@Frank1776. I love the image of a golf cart going into town. Put! Put! Outta my way!
