I just put one on my trailer and did an 1800 mile round trip, and man, what a difference in ride quality. Mine came with a pull cable that i was not expecting. It makes things easy to unlock it.
I bought the hitch and had it installed back in February and love it. Opens up the truck bed and while keeping space (w/out offset)between my cab and trailer on my 2024 Silverado!! Also you can unhitch and hitch without being perfectly straight! I recommend this to everyone I meet on the road. If you don’t know AZ roads are horrible and I do a lot of boon-docking. 👍
Yes!! It's such a good benefit being able to hitch/unhitch without having to be straight. That was often an issue with our old slider hitch and all the places we boondock. Love boondocking in Arizona too!!
We put a Gen y hitch on our new alliance avenue after my son had one on his 5th wheel. What a difference it made compared to our other 5th wheel. Ride is so much better, also handling better. I would recommend this hitch to anyone with a 5th wheel. Plus I have my truck bed back.

Another great fun and informative video, really love you guys. We have both a Brinkley and a GEN-Y gooseneck hitch, we love it! We also have the off set ball.
I had to decouple at 90 degrees in Black Canyon Arizona since my RAM 3500 crew cab with an 8' bed was too long to back straight in an older campground with very narrow roads between rows. Thank goodness we had the gooseneck executive hitch for our 3610 or I could not have done it. We got many comments from our neighbors about how they have never seen someone do this! Lots of pics taken of our Gen-Y hitch that day.
The Gen-Y is the only reason we were able to get a 5th wheel. We run a video production company from the road and when we have to do a job we need the truck bed back to haul our gear. With the Gen-Y, and the puck system in the back of our RAM, we can get our truck bed back in about 2 minutes. I can't really comment on how much smoother it than than a traditional 5th wheel, because we've never had a traditional 5th wheel. Buy I can say that the Gen-Y is a super smooth towing experience. My husband and I use a Reese hitch for our 5th wheel. We own a short bed truck. Our turning radius is incredible. We can hitch from any angle. If we need to use the bed of our truck, we can easily remove it. This hitch has an airbag which helps from the feeling of chucking. Check it out.
Make sure you change your oil in Anchorage or Fairbanks for the return trip so you don’t get so many miles on your oil change unless you have Amsoil and then don’t worry about
I totally get your decision but have to say I chose to go air ride with 360 swivel shock control in addition to the 5 wheel's dampening action. A hefty $4k invested to stay off stress to the trailer frame stress and maintenance which will end up costing more than the hitch plus the down time expenses. Hensley BD5 series.
Can’t wait to join you guys on the road. I am a recently divorced and going to do the full time RV life. New job is 100% remote so me and Starlink in a Brinkley 3950 G are hitting the road June 2026.
installed the genY with the 5" offset on our new Alliance in April and while I've never towed a 5th wheel with a traditional hitch, I absolutely love being to quickly remove the ball and safety chain hooks from the bed of the truck. I can easily get to 90 degrees with a GMC Sierra HD 6-10" bed and there's enough space between the bed rails and the trailer to even clear the Revolver tonneau cover. Couldn't be happier. Thanks for the update, I really appreciate you guys.
For the mosquitos I would highly recommend Thermacell. They do an amazing job. A fellow camper that I know lives by that product and it does an amazing job. If you don't already have one. Great vid and Love your honest review.

I'm glad you like your Gen-Y! We bought ours because of your earlier review and also used your code to get 15% off. 🙂 We do love the way it tows our Alliance Paradigm using our shortbed Ram 3500. At the Alliance rally, Gen-Y was there and gave us the new flip switch with the pull cord. It was easy to replace, works so much nicer and we don't need that pull rod anymore. BTW, we are still itchy after that mosquito scene -- Yikes! Safe travels!
After watching your geny video when you first got yours I went and bought one. I've got a one ton dually so getting the gooseneck gave me even more room. So far I've only put on about 450 miles but I could tell a difference. I like it. Enjoy Alaska! I'd love to go there but I don't think that will be in my long term plans.
Cochrane, Alberta, Canada, the rivers edge RV park is awesome. You’ll need to make reservations pretty quick if you plan on staying there on the way back.
Glad you all made it safe to Alaska. I see you found the Alaska State Bird the Mosquitoes! Looking forward to seeing more videos of your coming adventures! Need to join the community soon also!
Oh what a wonderful surprise! I love tagging along and following you guys. There are alot of mosquitos up North. I like the Orange Wild RVLife shirt. Thanks for sharing. Deb
We are enjoying your trip to Alaska. Good job getting out of your predicament. I felt your anxiety. We are huge fans of our GenY hitch also. We would not have known about them if it hadn’t been for Brinkley using them on their original prototype and then the G’s.
Hey welcome to my state!!! Hope y’all have a great visit!!! Make sure yall swing by Fairbanks before yall leave!!! Wife and I enjoy watching yalls adventures!!! Be safe and keep rolling!
Great video. I have been watching your channel and open roading since we met at Holloman Lake (Public Access) next to White Sands National Park. We have the little Ozark toy hauler that we use for long distances being we live in Minnesota, which was parked next to you before "Open Roading" asked to be next to you. I have really enjoyed all of your videos and hope that in the future we could meet up and enjoy a visit. Thanks for the great video. I have been thinking of putting a Gen-Y hitch on my 45 foot 5th wheel camper instead of the 5th wheel plate. Thanks again for all the great videos and have a great and safe trip.
You guys just kinda blew through Tok, we were through there last year, Fast Eddie's restaurant was great as well as Sourdough campground with the pancake toss! The trip home is just as beautiful as the trip up just take a different route the Cassiar highway was the way we came back. Safe travels, love the channel!
I like the sliding bed cover that you put on your truck. Would you mind sharing what it is and how rain proof is it. Good video on the hitch by the way.
I installed a gen y on my camper. I was very skeptical to do it but I’m glad I did. I had a BD3 trailer saver hitch and absolutely loved the ride quality with that but I think the gen y is almost comparable to that.
We bought a GenY for our Solitude and it's great! We didn't even have a rough break in period. No chucking and much smoother ride. My husband noticed you need a turtle for your power cord! 😜 Really, it's a magnetic holder you wind your cord around and stick it to the underside of the hitch when you're parked. Stay safe from the mosquito apocalypse!! I've heard they are worse there than in the South! We have them bad in North Texas right now but not that bad!! 😮
Hey Guys....hope y'all havin fun!! Alaska for us is next year 🤞🤞...great thoughts on manuvering....just remember angle of attacks are important someday we will let ya know...but if your camper is nose high or low and your truck is opposite your cap can be closer to your truck cab even more...stay safe in Alaska
What a treat to have another video! This was very informative! Learning much from y’all. And I thought the mosquitos were bad in Louisiana! We get em pretty bad here too. We must have been lucky when we went to Alaska. I don’t remember the being that bad. Yall thanks for saving the little mouse 💕too. Have fun and thanks so much for the hitch info!
My last rv was terrible. I'm not sure which pin box it had. However, this one is great. I think rv would hit on the bottom of the cap before the hitch ever would.
Exactly what I needed to know! About to order our Brinkley G4000 with goose neck. Was wondering if it would work with my Ram 3500 megacab dually. Thank you for the answer.
sorry I wasnt finished with my last comment. I have a Reese 16K goosebox and I love it I wanted the Gen Y but at the time in 2022 Lippert wasn't approving them . since that time I understand that lippert has approved the GenY goosebox type hitch> Having the bed of your truck is awesome, as you know every inch is very important. Hopefully we'll cross paths Look for the "Wondering Nomad" Ill be coming out of the northeast. Safe travels
I just talked to lippert last week and he said gen y was not approved yet. Because of where they hook up, he said it is farther forward that the goose box, so I got a 16k goose box! I’m excited to try it out! How do you like towing with it?
Hey you guys! I really like the hitch and turning racial great documentary. And thanks for giving me an episode in between. Man would love to see you guys next time you’re in Utah. The Brinkley seems to be worth the money. Can’t wait to see you in Alaska. Love you guys 👍❤️
@@wildrvlife hope you got my first installment of info. If so will add my number 🐕😁 as I know how to send pictures through text etc. technology just intimidates haha 😂
Great video guys and we met you at the Tampa RV show. Love watching you guys. I hear what you are saying about the slide hitch weighing a lot as well taking up a lot of room. Lucky I have a forklift to take mine on and off but still a royal pain. We have the super slide rated for 24,000lbs which is a little over kill but at the time we figured we might go higher with our 5th wheel. Decided that what we have is plenty for the two of us. We also have the air ride king pin on the 5th wheel. Certainly looking at that Gen-y hitch as it looks much easier and I get my truck bed back. So I have a 2018 Ram 3500 Laramie but don’t have the goose ball hitch in the center of my truck but do have the 4 pucks. I noticed you have some sort of an adapter on yours that tots into the front pucks. Is that available somewhere and goes that take the place of the center back that we don’t have? Let me know when you get the chance and save travels hope to meet up with you guys again. Mario and Susan.
Hi thanks for reviewing this hitch. We used to be full time and are probably jumping back in. Looking the your Brinkley’s floor plan, is the tv view from the furthest recliner obstructed by the kitchen island? Thank you!
One more tip lol. Get you a spray bottle and mix 50/50 listerine mouth wash and water and spray your door seals and it will keep the mosquitoes away as well!! Hope y’all enjoy your trip in AK!!
We have the Gen-Y on our Brinkley with basically the same truck except we don't have the mega-cab. Ours is just the crew-cab. I don't use the offset but the distance between the cab and rig is probably close to what yours is, I may be wrong on that. We have not had a problem with turn radius so far, knock on wood but then again we don't go where you guys go. I would recommend it too. I am curious though as to what you think about adding Sumo springs, especially after making the trip up to Alaska. We're heading there next year. If I remember right in that video you referenced gen-y plus sumo gave the best results. We full-time also so we are pretty heavy as you know. We're currently in Colorado and after doing these mountains I am going to do the brake upgrade in Granby, figured it would be a good time to get it all done. Also, how is the solar keeping up with all the rain? You may be going to do a video on that and if so you can just say "Stay tuned" LOL Sorry for such a long comment
I loved seeing the redo of the turning radius. I'm using the gen y 5" offset along with a Reese goosbox. I've a shortbed F350 and managed to bust my rear window the second time I backed into my driveway. Not a fun day. Wondering about your bed cover on your truck. I had the same cover on a previously owned Ford Ranger. After about year I started having problems where it not stay in a fully closed position. It would slip open just enough to allow rain water get between the tailgate and the cover. Wondering what your experience as I need to decide on a cover for my F350.
@@bigjake6254 if you read a couple other comments the GenY does not come close. On my old camper I had the Airborne airide hitch and it would hit. Or should I say did! Our new toyhauler has the Rhinobox so the GenY should work perfect and not hit the Tonneau mount inside rails. To add, the pin to first bolt hole measurement is alot shorter on these newer Rhinobox pinbox frames in comparison to the old 1621 pinbox.
Good video 😊 just asking why did you get a short bed most rv's have long bed for better weight distribution in the bed over the rear axle short beds it seems for new rv's but ever they want safe travels
Mostly because we are full-time and it's already difficult to find parking spots wide enough for a srw truck. So, just for convenience as an everyday driver.
I’m really leaning towards the Gen-Y but Grand Design recommends Reese and from what I understand will not cover any issues if you have a Gen-Y, related to frame issues.
The key is to have the correct hitch pinbox to not void warranty. Alot of the aftermarket hitches with suspension end up being longer which adds leverage to the frame connection points. If it's the same or less length they have no reason to void warranty.
I have to ask so you changed out your pin in your ring. But I am hearing for a frame flex that you’re not supposed to do that because the rig is designed in the frame around the pen. I am totally new to this, so I am sure I am messing this up in my question, but maybe you could explain it to me. Especially with the rig that you chose.
Brinkley RV has done extensive testing with the GEN-Y Hitch and found that it actually puts less stress and vibration on the rig, and Brinkley maintains their warranty specifically with the GEN-Y hitch, so we were able to be very confident in our switch. Here's their video that breaks down all the third party testing results: ruclips.net/video/1X7gCpF4hpc/видео.html
Do you grease your ball and if so what do you put over your ball when not hitched up to keep things in the back of the truck from touching the ball and getting greasy
I do grease it. If i put something back there and worry about grease getting on it, the ball can be removed in about a minute, or I'll throw a rubber glove it. I usually have some for the sewer hookups.
Hay guys ever thought about doing a story on the Brinkley testing of the different hitch designs? and why they chose Gen y hitch over all the others against lipper recommendations , it's a story on to it's self
Hey guys, how do you like Towing the z3100 with a single rear wheel truck? My wife and I are getting into the RV life and we are questioning whether we should buy a ram Dually or if we can get away with a single wheel. We are looking at a 3100 as well.
Hi there, I have been following your channel the last few weeks and have enjoyed your videos. We are also located in Tallahassee! You guys changed to a goose neck setup because of the bed. How much bed space having a goose neck setup vs traditional really really give you? We currently have a trailer with a f250 and trying to make a decision on getting a fifth wheel or getting a larger camper. We will be using the camper for weekend adventures. Thank you and look forward to your response!
Hey guys, we got the same Gen Y hitch on our z3400. We recently had a situation where our RV did touch the truck rails 😮 ahhh! Was curious what clearance you have between your rails and RV and if you had to adjust it. I noticed it appeared maybe y'all had adjusted it more recently, so was curious.
@@Itsa_Mea thank you for the thoughts. the GenY was purchased and installed by the dealer when we bought the 3400. We have had the trailer weighed and it's not overweight. We think the dealer installed the hitch to low so they could use all the bolt holes. What we can't figure out is how many bolts does the hitch require?
@@michaelmorris8571 I'd email or call GenY but normally there's 3 bolts in the front set of holes on each side, and then 2 bolts on each side on the rear set of holes making a total of 10. But, my Airborne hitch that I used on my older 5er I could only run 2 in the front on each side and 2 in the back holes on each side for a total of 8. That is the minimum amount bolts that should ever be used.
@@Itsa_Mea thank you, I've been meaning to contact gen y but we are dealing with a dealer at the moment on some bad work they did so I haven't had time. Right now we have four and three bolts which is why we asked here about it as we saw Craig and Victoria have three and two. I have been managing by adjusting the air bags when we need more clearance but it would be nice to not have to do that. Thank you again, I'll contact gen y.
No, the other videos are coming on our regular Sunday release schedule! This is just a sneak peek into the future so that we could do our 6 month update on our GEN-Y hitch because we’ve had a lot of people asking 😄
I'm not sure if you mean between the bottom of the front cap of the rv and rails or the back of the pin box and rails. The front cap clearance has like 8 inches if the ground is flat and less depending on the slope of the ground. The pin box is short enough that it won't ever connect with the truck bed rails or bed cover.
@@wildrvlife Back of the pin box to the side of the bed. In this case, the tonneau cover rails since they probably stick in an extra inch of so. I'm guessing there was plenty of clearance since it wasn't mentioned.
Okay, i have to ask if you ever put your rig through the scales with the 5th wheel hitch and got your steering axle and driver axle weights? And with the gen-y hitch with the offset ball?

I have a gen Y on the back of my subrban & I love it. Can’t wait to try the goose neck version.
We had a gooseneck hitch on our horse trailer, and if I could do it all over again, I would have used one for our 5th wheel. Great video!
I installed a gen y on my camper. I was very skeptical to do it but I’m glad I did. I had a BD3 trailer saver hitch and absolutely loved the ride quality with that but I think the gen y is almost comparable to that.
The torsion links are the same technology that Dexter axles use on the Airstream axles.
They used it for years.
Nice video
We bought a GenY for our Solitude and it's great! We didn't even have a rough break in period. No chucking and much smoother ride.
My husband noticed you need a turtle for your power cord! 😜
Really, it's a magnetic holder you wind your cord around and stick it to the underside of the hitch when you're parked.
Don’t forget the train from just outside of White horse, Yukon to Skagway I heard it’s awesome
Our Brinkley is getting the new gen y with snap latch right now. Thanks for this video it is a big help. Enjoy Alaska.
Great review! You showed lots of great scenarios!
How is the clearance with your tonneau cover rails when turning sharp? My MorRyde pinbox tears up the rails on sharp, more than 45 degree, turns.
Yay!! Glad to have been of help!
I went with the Reese Goosebox. Love it.
I just got a goose box! I’m excited to try it out
@philbowman2950 if you get bored, I have a few videos on mine. I think they're in my Camping/ Camper Trailer and Tacoma Playlists.
sorry I wasnt finished with my last comment.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
@@wildrvlife hope you got my first installment of info. If so will add my number 🐕😁 as I know how to send pictures through text etc. technology just intimidates haha 😂
I use the off set ball and I have a long bed.
I have a curt fifth wheel 360 tilt . But i have a 2021 ram 3500 long bed crew cab .your videos are awesome .Denis from SantaRosaCa .
I’m enjoying your all’s videos!! I just pray one day that it’s me out there soon!!
I would like to know or see when you made that close 90 turn how close was the back of the pin box was to your bedside rail
This is most important and critical when running a Tonneau cover with the inside rail flush mounts. Guess how I know!
@@Itsa_Mea exactly why I want to know. I want a gen y and a cover with rails
At 25:34 when you came off the ball, it looked like the ball moved or not bolted solid. Is that normal?
It is normal with the offset. Because of the offset, it can flex up just a bit.
It was the offset adapter that the ball is attached to moved slightly, not the ball itself. Completely normal for the offset.
You guys should easily have 300k subscribers!
You can come back by going across Canada to the East Coast.
I feel like we missed the rest of the trip through Canada and the border crossing? 🐾🐾
It's all coming. We just wanted to answer some questions about our hitch.
I need the offset for my voltage 3990 and abd Reese goosebox. Standard bed crew cab truck
I've got one to install on our Raptor toy hauler. I'll be doing it soon!
Ahh niceeee!! You’re going to love it!!
might have to try one on my 5th wheel
use the ferry coming down.. fun trip
Eternal bond tape is the best expensive but holds really good
Hay guys ever thought about doing a story on the Brinkley testing of the different hitch designs? and why they chose Gen y hitch over all the others against lipper recommendations , it's a story on to it's self
And a trick for the mosquitoes!!! Rub dryer sheets on your skin!! Works the best!!
Hey guys, how do you like Towing the z3100 with a single rear wheel truck? My wife and I are getting into the RV life and we are questioning whether we should buy a ram Dually or if we can get away with a single wheel. We are looking at a 3100 as well.
It's great! The truck stops fine with it, never gets pushed around, and when we are not towing, parking is way easier than a dually.
Hey, Capt. Buddy here, thumb nail photo got me! Hehe
That hitch seems awesome!
I was thinking about getting 1No fifth wheel yet.
Have you looked at the Open Roads diesel card for your fuel?
We have one! 🙌
Y'all be careful up there and have fun!
So, when you want to use the truck bed without towing, do you just remove the ball? Is that pretty easy?
OMG! I started swatting the mosquitoes and I am inside with none around me!!! Oy!! Thanks for sharing. Safe Travels.
@wildrvlife did you guys ever have to worry about hitting your levelers behind the rv wheels?
Hey guys, we got the same Gen Y hitch on our z3400. We recently had a situation where our RV did touch the truck rails 😮 ahhh! Was curious what clearance you have between your rails and RV and if you had to adjust it. I noticed it appeared maybe y'all had adjusted it more recently, so was curious.
You may of purchased the incorrect weight rated hitch. And/or you overloaded the front of the trailer. Commonly the basement is overloaded.
How did you get to Tok so fast? Did we miss from 0 miles to tok? Have an excellent trip and be safe.
No, the other videos are coming on our regular Sunday release schedule! This is just a sneak peek into the future so that we could do our 6 month update on our GEN-Y hitch because we’ve had a lot of people asking 😄
Great content you two! What tools do you use to find those boondock places..
During the tight turns, how much clearance is there between the Gen-Y hitch and the tonneau cover rails?
I'm not sure if you mean between the bottom of the front cap of the rv and rails or the back of the pin box and rails. The front cap clearance has like 8 inches if the ground is flat and less depending on the slope of the ground. The pin box is short enough that it won't ever connect with the truck bed rails or bed cover.
@@wildrvlife Back of the pin box to the side of the bed. In this case, the tonneau cover rails since they probably stick in an extra inch of so. I'm guessing there was plenty of clearance since it wasn't mentioned.
Correct, there is plenty of clearance. This was an issue on our last rv, but not this one with this setup.
Okay, i have to ask if you ever put your rig through the scales with the 5th wheel hitch and got your steering axle and driver axle weights? And with the gen-y hitch with the offset ball?
Are you coming to the United States before or after Aug 1st 2024? There are new rules for dogs entering the US. Please do a video on how easy or hard it is to get your dog back into the States with the new rules.
Most likely after August 1 unless they aren’t staying in Alaska very long.
