Great job on the video and info! We'll be back to watch more of your content! Danny and Lynn
Thank you, Danny and Lynn!! I'm glad you came by and enjoy the videos!!!
Good video thanks for the motivation‼ 15 percent to the side 👂🗣 I needed to see this video you keep it real💯...
You’re the man!!! Great tips bro.
Thanks, I appreciate the comment!!
I appreciate the info. In the semi end as a company driver right now but looking into rv hauling
I had a good talk with a few company drivers and they seemed really intrigued about this gig!
Enjoy your videos. Camped and hauled travel trailer and 5th wheels for our own use for 45 years. I'm retired now, full time RVing with my wife. As we travel we stay up to 3 months in one spot so I am looking into RV transport for some extra income. I appreciate your perspective and business savvy as I figure out a plan that works for me.
Great view point ! Considering this opportunity.
Thanks for the comment! Stay tuned for tomorrow’s video where I’m going to recap my first three months in the business!
Good info brother I'm thinking of getting into it and do short hauls for more home time
Thanks for stopping by and commenting!! I think it would be a great fit for that!! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help get you started!
Take my first load December 2. I really like your views on this.. thanks for putting these together.
Hey Jayson, thank you!! I'm launching a "business 101" today!! I hope it helps shed light on the RV Transport world along with just basic business insight!
Good luck and drive safe out there!!
@@WeekendTruckin I look forward to seeing it. Thanks again.!
Ocd is good. I would be constantly analyzing, as I too just bought a used 1 ton dually diesel and am strongly considering doing this and trying to balance family time with being on the road.
I agree! I'd rather know too much than not enough. I'd do it man! Even if you do a haul a month, you'd be adding around $1,000/month for a 2-3 day trip!
@@WeekendTruckin still hotshotting ?
I did it for three years back when it paid. It still never paid. Your truck wears out before the payments do.
I'm glad to meet someone just new into the business I'm trying to get into it.
Thanks for the comment, Jerry! Let me know if I can help at all!
You are hitting the hammer right on the nail. Keep doing what you're doing you'll be fine. Good job!
I've been In the trucking world for over 20yrs, and have always purchased used trucks with higher mileage. The way I looked at it , if it's got high mileage that means the trucks been running. And if something gone wrong it was probably fixed.
Right on. I couldn't agree more!!
What truck did you have when making this video? What upgrades? TY
RE possibility of blowing your turbo..... does it have a "waste gate" protecting it? I would think so. I'm a displaced Yankee living in Utah and YES, we have some big hills nearby... check out the "three sisters" in west Wyoming east of Evanston on I-80 if you haven't already experienced those.
I was reading online about rv transporting/ motorhomes. What I read was we have to cover the cost of incidentals including the rvs coverage before you can pull it off the lot right?
If you don't mind my asking, how are you finding loads? Are there websites for that?
Great video and info. How many of the last 29 days were you driving vs being home?
Great question! In total I was away from home for 14 days. However that isn't 14 days straights. It was a lot of 2 or 3 night trips and back. The longest stretch was from IN to ID down to CA and then back to IA and that was leaving on a Tuesday evening and being back the following Monday!
$6k for 14 days?
I've been looking at getting into this for the winter on my down time for extra money. My normal day job is running tri-axle dumps from the spring till the snow flys also I've been wanting another pickup for my personal trailer. Just looking for informative information to weather or not its worth it. But once again it's just during my down time in the winter months
Thanks for stopping by! I’d say this would work for that, for sure! Winter typically seems to be a slow time for certain companies but our boards are always loaded. Hope I helped shed some perspective on it for you!
@@WeekendTruckin It definitely did it's not to much different from when I was doing long haul trucking
Love your videos! Do you have a rough estimate on how many days you didn’t work in those 29 days? Average out to a 4 day work week?
Thanks, Kevin!!
When I looked back and answered a similar question I think it was a total of 14 days I was on gone for! And the biggest chunk was driving to IN to ID down to CA and back to IA. So I wasn’t gone from home that much!
Me & wife plus both sons Class A CDL holders, 10+ years tractor trailer, owner operators.
Semi retiring this summer, gonna drag everyone into RV delivery. Pay for fun travel & make enough for both boys, who are single, no big bills etc.
what year model trk did u buy and where is your home town.
do you have to have dot number? have to hit scales?
Im looking to do this as a side hustle but, can’t find insurance that isn’t thru the roof. Any help would be appreciated
Do you need a class A CDL to haul RV's? thanks for the videos man. Be Safe out there
Hey Robert! In general, no! For loads that would put you over 26k, you would so it could limit you a bit with your load selections but there’s a decent amount of guys without!
@weekend truckin... what would you say is best basic starter truck to start with?
Hey Justus! I'm not sure I am best qualified to answer this, but I'd say most would say one that has a sound maintenance routine from the previous owners you're buying it from!
How long did this truck last before it blew on you. I’m getting ready to get into this. Thanks for all you videos.
I was about 3-4 months in before that happened. It could have even been a preventative issue too potentially. I had several opportunities to pull over and investigate or have a shop look at it but I chose to keep driving not thinking g anything too much of it.
I just want to know how you go about getting jobs. Like where and how do you get each individual haul? From dealerships or people who just purchased the trailers? etc.
Great question! With Indiana Transport they have an app that has all the loads on there and are updated 3 or 4 times a day. You just self dispatch and you're off, for the most part!!
I'm liking the videos and looking into getting into RV transport. I have questions about ways to save. Seems taxes and insurance are two big bites out of profit so I'm looking into starting a LLC in a state that takes advantage of those two things. I'm originally from Ohio and family still there but I'm currently living in a motorhome near the Tennessee/Georgia line and love the area and see myself buying land in the area. I'll start my LLC with a virtual mailbox address in either OH, TN or GA and will run my insurance thru that address as well. Currently I'm comparing the tax benefits and insurance costs in those states. Do you have any thoughts on this?
Hey!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I think what you'll find is with the standard deductions of miles, and per day food and "overnight" expenses is that taxes won't be an issue- I'm sure it needs to be noted that I'm not giving legal advice but only my personal opinion. With an LLC, it's still just going to pass through to your personal income unless you're filing as an S-Corp but I can't see any advantages to that (I file as an S-Corp for my gym and then you have to file business taxes and your personal taxes because you're just an employee to your business). Does that help at all?
Virtual Mailbox!!😱. Please tell us more!!!
Great information man! Thank you for this video! Can I haul RV's under my own authority for any companies that you know of? I'm looking to start my own LLC to do some hotshotting and RV transport if possible.
Hey! I'm not sure about being able to run under your own authority while on with an RV Transport company. I'd just call them and ask!
No you cannot. The manufactures wont hire you like these mega corps will. Plus on the boards, there arent enough available trailers to haul for independents. Youd be better off car hauling if you dont mind the hard work.
I found a company who does that.
@@JBTRUCKN Are you able to give a name?
What loadboard do you use?
Thanks for the video. How is thus going now with diesel prices so high? You still make profit?
It hurts the margins for sure! But adjusting the maintenance % to be a little lower so the extra money they pay for trying to compensate for fuel helps keep things working!
Just curious if you're seeing any slow load boards as a person out on the west coast says things are slowing down?
Ours have stayed the same throughout since I've been on with them! I did hear that Horizon slows down this time of the year though. From what I'm gathering is that Horizon may/seems to have a more robust backhaul board where as our backhauls for the most part are just new campers going places from a lot in ID. There are other random backhauls though, not friendly to eliminating deadhead miles on most trips.
Just to be clear you are with horizon correct?
@@Teeg60 No, I'm leased on with Indiana Transport.
I’m getting ready to go with wave. And I’m like you I don’t have a new truck I got a 08 Cummins. But it’s a good truck with only 130k on it. I’m excited for the change from the coal mines and rock mines
Congrats! that's exciting!!! I'd say just remember your truck is your biggest asset, so drive it slow, safe, and choose loads that put the least amount of stress on it for a more profitable endeavor! Safe travels when you get out on the road!
Dude I’m with you!!! Lol!!! Just got accepted with a company and will be running hopefully by next month as a noob!! Just gunna take it slow and learn the ropes 😉 Your vids are great for showing a noobies prospective!!

Hey Jake! I would actually reach out to companies and apply before getting a truck! Just in case there’s a chance you don’t get hired before getting a truck!! weekendtruckin@gmail.com
Can you please explain what is a backhaul run? I hear that mentioned in some videos on this stuff, nobody's explaining what backhaul means.
Hey John! Backhauls are essentially a trip/haul that gets you back to your next outbound load! They're a great thing, but even if someone tells you you can't make money because you're not backhauling in RV Transport, they're misleading you!
Hope that helps!!!
@@WeekendTruckin yes, thanks. Soon as I can get myself a ¾ or 1 ton truck, I'ma try and get into this business.
Hi, Is there a demand for hauling travel trailers with a 1500 truck? For at least starting out. Thanks
Hey Johnny! I’m not sure there’s any companies that lease on 1/2 ton trucks... you’d have to call around and ask! I know you can get a gas 3/4 ton for less than getting a diesel and some will lease it on!
@@WeekendTruckin Thanks for the info. I really enjoy your videos!
Thank you!
Hey I got a couple of questions if you don't mind. Hows your insurance a month. Also can I do this part-time. I work over night from 10pm to 6am and off weekends. Can I work at your company that you work for part-time?
Hey! My insurance with the Ford was in the $260-280/month range, if I remember correctly! I believe you could make that work, but man....That sounds like it would be a rough transition on the off days!
Please tell me how u find fuel that cheap. I use EFS and mudflap and anything else
We use Comdata, but that video was recorded before the current administration got into office...
Thanks for the video. How is this going now with diesel prices so high? You still make profit? Can you make an update video?
Hey Zach! Sorry for being so MIA of late, there's still money- it's just not as profitable but it's still profitable! It also comes down to knowing what numbers you need to hit each month and reverse engineering that to see what you need from each trip.
@@WeekendTruckin thank you for the reply. That makes perfect sense.
I have a tuned and deleted ram diesel. Is the hauling company ok with that?
It was something that never even got brought up throughout the hiring process!
@@WeekendTruckin awesome! I have been thinking about doing it part time.
How fast do you get paid? Right after the run or is it weekly or bi weekly? Thanks buddy!
Hey Zach!
Pay is instant with every job/haul!
You actually get half of the gross pay advanced after you book the load and then within a few hours (there’s exceptions to getting paid in regards to the end of the day and weekends on if you get your advance or final payout right away).
@@WeekendTruckin do they take out taxes of the gross pay for you? Or do you have to do that on your own? Also when you sleep in your truck at night do you leave your truck running with the heat one? Do you get any exhaust inside your cab?
There isn’t any taxes taken out- they 1099 you. But with the favorable write offs with standard deductions you’ll find, come tax time there’s nothing to worry about!!
Pending on the weather I’ll leave my truck running. I always leave a crack in the driver side windows (front and back) but haven’t noticed any issues with exhaust.
Any Lines on loads in or to western Canada?
With IT, there's some for sure! and our Western yard out of ID has some that pretty go straight up into Canada too!
Do you work for the company that does all the Camping world deliveries? I had a brother that worked for Horizons and I am trying to get on with Indiana right now. I am a 47-year-old debt-free single guy who can pay cash for a good used truck. I have not worked in 10 years after I had a bad accident that left me disabled but I can hook a camper up and drive. Anything is better than living off of Social Security Disability
We may... we do have a lot of Camping World runs!
Glad to hear you’re starting a new endeavor!!! I think you’ll enjoy it!
How do you get a back haul doing rv transport?
That seems to be the hardest part if you’re not in the multi-haul division where you have a trailer for cars on your way back. I’m currently looking at different Power Only load boards and trying to coordinate with our inventory people. No lunch so far, but I haven’t really given it a lot of my energy and efforts yet.
You usually don't you just deadhead.
I’m doing 11k gross a month, after expenses I clear 6 to 6.5k. I stay in motels every night, which I have been told I can’t make money doing that, but i have. Keep trucking!
Hey Mike! Thanks for stopping g by and commenting!
I think you can still make money, it’s just not as profitable in terms of cash in hand. It I’m sure there’s guys out there with a lot of overhead or leasing with enterprise where the margins are a lot narrower than they need to be.
Can I ask- are you full time on the road? And then are your hotel expenses before or after the 6-6.5k?
Again, thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it!!
Can I do this in pennsylvania?

Can I make this work as a part time gig? I work 4 10’s Monday through Thursday November through March I would love to do this on the side to help finance a truck and truck bed camper.
Hey Michael! Thanks for coming by and commenting! I'd say it depends on where you live in relation to the IN area for the months you're working, but yea I don't see how you couldn't make it work!
@@WeekendTruckin I love off 75 in Ohio so super close to IN lol
Do you drive with a regular drivers license or do you need a cdl license?
With my setup and in my state, a normal drivers license suffices!
@@WeekendTruckin I currently live in Elkhart is there anyway you can guide me on what steps to take? I can meet up wherever in the area or also thru here.
I’d start by just filling out an application with the company- the only caveat to that is make sure you either have a truck or have the means to get a truck once they say you were able to work for them
@@WeekendTruckin any companies you recommend? Thanks for the help as well!
I live in Memphis Tn. I worked out of Elkhart Il. for Horizon. I took classes I paid for and learned all the laws. Fees, license, Insurance costs per year, Fuel costs, food, truck stops , Motel costs, Monthly Maintenance VS loads I could handle. These entries depleted my profits overall. At Times there were no runs for me to profit from. I was forced to take a non profit run just to keep my monthly obligations. I loved it, BUT I could not afford the fees etc.. Now my truck is better than it ever was but not acceptable because of its model year. Its a work horse and looks brand dam new. I will take it to my grave before I will get a newer model. Still I stay up to date as much as I will hope for an open mind!! I will stack my 2002 f350 7.3 powerstroke up against the newer models on the road to date. I have the power they do not have! I have to complements from coast to coast on how good my truck looks. Even in Elkhart! Good looks and awesome power.
Sounds like a great truck you got!! I think peoples situations determine if an endeavor will be a successful one for them. There's some that think RV Transport is the fastest way to go broke... I don't know their situation but the money is there for the taking for sure!!
hotshot trucking makes more sense than hauling rv's
If you don’t mind me asking. Who do u drive for. Iam looking and talking to different companies. Thanks
He drives for Indiana Transport
Thanks Mike!
I didn't do any research on any other company. The numbers made since from what my friend was saying with IT and since he had been with them for over a year and had nothing but great things to say, I just applied there!
What year model truck do you drive? Does it have to be a newer truck?
It's a 2010 F250. You don't have to have a new truck. With Indiana Transport it's just suppose to be a 2010 or newer. But I've heard it can be older if it's still in good shape and reliable.
I really wish the recording was louder. I have my system turned all the way up and can likely hear your truck better than your voice. Seems like a good video
The 6.4.....instant buying regret when I bought mine
Does the company have a cut off on the year truck you drive?
Hey Chris! They do, but I’m not sure the year and I’ve heard they make case by case exceptions!
@@WeekendTruckin I appreciate the response.
Do i need my own 1 million$ insurance to work with horizont or ant other rv company ?
Hey Israel! I’m not sure what Horizon has for a policy but I’d assume they list it on their website!
Most companies have their own insurance for what you are carrying for them. But most will want yu to have a million dollar policy especially if you are traveling through different states.
What is the best state you have been to
From a view standpoint, I'd say driving through UT and then I70 in CO through the mountains!
I am near Manteca/Modesto and have a the F350 2002 dually and only have a Ca standard drivers lic with perfect driving history. Eager to explore this and can road-travel 3-4 days a week. Who should I contact to get the most bank for the buck? Thanks! Great videos!
Hey! I’d actually call around from company to company and have specific questions for what will make this endeavor best for you!
Do you have a fuel card?
Yes! And it's definitely a great thing in combination with an aux. tank to make each trip more profitable!
Can you give me a lay out to get started
How do I star my business with Rv ??? I’m new and I wanna try this? Or How do I start Haulling Rv ??
Hey Jaun! I’d start by calling around to different companies and asking questions! But also, most have a list of requirements on their website you may want to look at first before calling!
What about log book? Do you log?
Yea! We just have the KeepTruckin app and nothing hooked up to the truck. I’m not exactly sure what requires it to be that way.
So 29 days, how many were actually working? So you just have class C DL? And how do you find and negotiate the runs? Lastly, have figured out your actual net profit? Like are you writing off your insurance, truck note, fuel, maintenance, etc.?
Back then, I'd typically be gone for 3 days a week. I don't have a CDL, and don't need one with my set up(both current and past truck). You don't get to negotiate the rates, it's on a loadboard from the company you're leased on with.
When you mention net profit, are you referring to a "tax time" scenario or the money I have in my pocket regardless of what can be written off. During this video with the old farm truck, with the part time running I was doing, I was on pace for around 75-80k before deducting expenses but after fuel.
@@WeekendTruckin Thanks for this info. On the Net Profit its more about what you actually made after paying your personal taxes after all of the things you deducted. From what I have researched you can deduct fuel, tax on your truck payment, maintenance, food, lodging and more. Just wondering what kind of money there is and time it takes to get it. Thanks for all your help!
What company did you sign on with?
Indiana Transport
Agreed very cool I guess if you could do 12 months of that that's 72k.
Does horizon take taxes out of your pay?
I'm not how Horizon is set up, I'm with Indiana Transport- but I'd assume they all are similar in that you're a 1099 contractor for them so no taxes are withheld. However after talking with another former/current business owner who does this part time for some time now- He talked about with the professional driving industry deductions you won't be showing you made a lot at the end of the year!

That's a negative ghost rider! I believe they used to let drivers do that back in the day though!
Sir, do you expect rates to stay around $1.60/mile for the forseeable future?
I have no qualifications on making that prediction!
It goes up and down. Right now going North West i'm making $1.69 a mile. Headed to Mississippi tomorrow for $1.49 a mile. It's been a little rough atm but i'm still making good money.
What trucks are required
I think it can vary from company to company but ultimately a 3/4 ton and 10-ish years old or newer are standard truck requirements! You’d want a diesel for sure though to take advantage of better towing MPG’s and fuel discounts from your company.
So who is the best company to drive for
I don't know if there is, to be honest. There's the larger companies and then the smaller ones. The smaller ones will have more interactions with you but may not have the capacities as the large ones, like IT, do.
For me it was never worth it for me to run cal. I made my money running in the south back in the day. The road has changed a lot since I was out there. I tried to make sure my truck made a minimum 600 a day. That was pulling a skate board. Im thinking about this i really need to stay close to home because of my job. Due they have a lot of work in the south. Thanks for any help.
Yea, I'm not sure if I'll continue to do long west hauls or not. I may try to do one or two more before I make my final decision on it, but the same money can be made in shorter, multiple runs within the same time frame. Thanks for commenting!!!

I’d start by calling around to different companies to see which one you want to lease on with! Then they’ll have a check list of the things you need to do to get started!
AAA has predicted 6$ a gallon comin up soon🏦
Diesel lower at some stations in so cal 🎉
How many days did you work in 29 days to make $6000?
I would average 3-4 days a week with my pickup, so 12-16 days in a months time.
This is great info man. I’m looking at getting into this myself. My problem is I was a drinker in 20’s and got some dui’s. Record has been clean for 12 years. Would they hire me
I’m not sure if they have a certain number of years where they overlook them or not! I’d just call around and ask each company! Good luck!!
Can i sleep in the rv???
Do you make more if you have a cdl and operating authority,
channel kicks ass bro💪
Thanks man!
You can haul loads that are over 26k and typically pay around 10 cents more per mile with a CDL on single pulls. I’m not sure on if having your own authority would be beneficial if you’re leasing on with a company... maybe if you were branching out to do your own thing - however that works! 🤷♂️
We all seen RV money videos, after taxes your around $60-$75G a year. To some that’s good to others it’s not. How do you even sleep in that truck with no window tint in the back?
I was on pace to make that only being on the road 3 days a week. There’s more to be made in single pulls if you’re a person who wants to be gone more. I have window shades!
@@WeekendTruckin I hope the profit is in it you guys deserve to be paid well, but fairwinds made $120,000 last year I think was and that was before taxes. Doing the math that’s about right considering all your deadhead. 🤷♂️
@@WeekendTruckin 3 days a week. That's what I would want it I do this. I work 2 weeks off and 2 weeks on in the oilfield and I want to be home more
Barely can hear what's being said in the video 🙇♂️
And how much did it cost you in gas, maintenance, and depreciation?
This was an older video, but I want to say in the good ol' days of cheap fuel I'd spend around $400/week in fuel in the F250 for about a 1,000 outbound trip. I set aside 15% of each trip's gross payout for maintenance, and depreciation isn't a "real thing" it's a way to limit tax liability.
@@WeekendTruckin oh interesting. Can you do a video on that? Limiting tax liability?
$4000 in 4 days is equal to $1600 driver pay ya gotta pay the truck a wage and the expenses are steep !!!
I had about $770 in fuel, set aside $560 in my maintenance account and pocketed just shy of $2,400 from the trip.
@@WeekendTruckin 40% is the highest I’ve been able to pay myself are you not itemizing your unladen , and other expenses like maintenance and such ?? 4 days this week I’ve paid myself $1500 counting every expense that it takes to run this business if really like to see your full figures !!!
@@WeekendTruckin what about paying the truck ?? It’s an employee too how you gonna replace it when it’s dead ?
“Paying the truck” is a term I don’t subscribe to. I set aside 15% of the gross pay into a maintenance account for every trip. It’s the same thing so to speak but just broader/basic business practices. I don’t pay my equipment at the gym I own, but I set aside a set amount of revenue every month for maintenance and it sits in said account until it’s needed.
Are you in RV transport or hot shooting? RV transport, in my opinion, is as simple as doing side jobs in the construction world as a self employed contractor. You could try and expand upon more sophisticated business practices but it’s just adding more work and “muddying the water” so to speak with how 1099 work passes through regardless of how you set things up.
I have two fixed expenses from an operational viewpoint and they are expenses I’d have regardless of if I was transporting (truck payment and insurance). There’s some variable expenses with maintenance that’s definitely Aussie of the amount of miles we put on the trucks, but I keep it simple and they come out of my “pocket”. That’s not me saying they aren’t write offs come tax time, but because of the pass through of contract work it all comes out of your “pocket” so to speak regardless. I keep track of all expenses for tax time but keep it simple when it comes to just operating. I’m averaging a “money in pocket” margin of about 62%. I pay my bills with that money which include my expenses that are tax deductible expenses.
