Man this is great info thank you. Can't wait to talk to someone today stay safe out there.
Thanks Casey for another great video!
Hahahahaha I want to get into RV transport and I own an Outdoors RV. PERFECT :^) You’ve been an invaluable source of info, thanx brother!
Great info! Great guy! Thanks man!
Several years ago I considered leaving the big trucks to pull RVs. I have no problem with layovers or 34 hr restarts or weather delays in a standup sleeper truck with a TV, fridge and microwave and room to stretch. The thought of doing the same thing in the back seat of a pickup truck without those amenities doesn’t sound very appealing.
That definitely is a down side. I try to make sure I can get home or to one my many friends across the country for my reset. Luckily I have a large network nationwide of friends/family
Great video my dude! Knowledge is power!!! I am really considering doing this.
Looking great with your new video style. Have a great day!
Hi it was so nice to meet you the other day at dan’s in elk heart it really made my day and thanks for all the videos the streetwalker is cool
Thanks for the info. With Horizon, do you need your own authority or you sign on under them?
Good video. Thanks man
I'm looking at this after I retire out of the steelmill. Great Job for a retiree.
Lol a lot of individuals don’t say “NET” but GROSS is top talker. I’ve been out here 11 yrs and I know. Do your research folks. Great Video
Thanks for all the info
beautiful truck brother. great deal on the insurane wow!
Ya that's average insurance rates
Hi. Thanks for the great information! Just FYI I couldn't hear you very well when you pulled the phone so far away because there's background noise from the freeway I guess? Also the lighting it's hard to see you there's a big huge light on the right hand side.. Lighting in front of your face is a bit better than behind your head just so you know. Also, do you have a video on where you sleep? Thank you.
I started watching yours and a couple other channels and for some odd reason I find them interesting. These types of channels started popping up after looking at F450 videos I guess. We've owned 3 RV's and our current one is a 44ft land yacht that we towed with a 19 F350 SRW and it was on the edge (but still within it's limits) but we added solar and "stuff" so the last trip I noticed the rv starting to push around the F350. Long story short 2 weeks ago we brought home a 22 F450, have yet to tow with it but what a truck! I used to hate driving for more than a few hours at a time mainly because by the time I get home from work hook up the rv and get going, we'd usually end up at the campgrounds around early evening and alway thought that was such a waste of money. Now that I have this F450 I love driving it, the 4+ hour trip to bring it home was nothing. We've owned a landscaping/snow plowing business since 2003 but the older I get, lack of any decent help and the cheaper people get its becoming more of a burden and looking at options specially with this 1098.00/month truck! I'm in NWPA area so would I have a lot of "deadhead" time or are there yards to pick up from around my area.
From PA? You’ve got several yards in Indiana, but that’s it. There would be random stuff popping up on the reload board. Dealer transfers, customer purchases, etc……but I wouldn’t always hold my breath for those.
@@caseyharris82 Thats what I was thinking. I see a bunch of deliveries but by "a bunch" I mean maybe 5-10 or so a season at local dealerships
@@jandblawncare8570 Hi! In terms of labor what rates are you offering for the decent labor? I may know a bunch of hard working people who moved to PA recently (from Eastern Europe) and may be able to help for not that much
Do you have to run log books
Nice videos man, I want a star with this but I have a important question for me because I live in California, I have to drive bobtail all away to Indiana when I deliver in California or when I do my home time?
Great video
I noticed the horseshoe buckles where the safety chain would hook. I have a new F 250 and this was a problem for me hooking up safety chains. I thought about wrapping a chain around and then putting a link in and hooking my clevis hook to that. So my question is .Are the buckles better? I found them today at a hardware store for $ 25 each and I would need to grind a little to get to fit.
I got larger ones and they fit without grinding. Every once in a great while I get a trailer with hooks to small to fit the buckles. Otherwise they are great
Do the carriers provide 'E-LOGS', or is this another hidden expense?🤔
You can get the age waved with Horizon. A friend of mine was running a 2001 ram 3500 for a year with them. He messed up his trans, and rear end, and a turbo and then they drew the line. You have to have detailed pictures, lower miles, and a thorough inspection.
Do they give you a hard time at walmarts? Im trying to get out of semi trucks and haul campers out of east Indiana and i know they tend to boot the big trucks but as an ex truck driver i know how angry i would get seeing hotshots parked in truck spots so i dont want to take up big truck space. Its already pretty bad out there.
Helpful..👍🏽👍🏽
Would love to do this. Pulling campers is something I’m not new too. Problem is I have a wife and kids. I would hate to be away from them.
First comment! Stay safe our there Casey!
Cool video, I'm thinking about transitioning over
Great video thanks. Question can you make a dollar a mile after fuel expense? Thanks.
After fuel, yes. On 99% of the loads
Do you have required driving hour limits like they do for semi truck drivers?
Yes you do
Why do you have to log or have a CDL if it’s under 26001?
So, it may be up to the recruiter to say whether they will hire us or not. I’ve noticed that most are wanting some previous driving experience. I have a cdl-a license but haven’t actually driven a rig since the 80’s. Would that be at their discretion or should I keep looking.
I couldn’t give you a definite answer. They may accept that, they may not
Nice work brother
Thank you for sharing. Which weight distribution hitch do you use and do you have to install it on the trailer before you leave for each load?
I use a husky and yes I have to put it on every trailer but it only takes about a minute to install it
@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 Dang that's a fast balance, is it less for Weight Distribution and more for sway control? Is that why it's such a fast setup? Also isn't that a worry of damaging the trailer installing the brackets?
Yes it’s for weight distribution. Also yes it does scuff the paint on the frame. I’d rather not use them but it’s not my choice
@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 that's a quick setup for a weight distribution hitch. It took about 2 hrs to get our equalizer system set up and tuned properly on our personal trailer.
Don’t know what to tell you then. I’ve used it about 100 times and it goes that fast every time. Actually in one of my videos I filmed someone else putting it on and it only took a couple minutes
I did this for a few years. Your money runs out before you pay off your truck. 150,000 miles a year. Your truck will stop before you can.
Does PC Miler take into account things like tunnels, low bridges, tolls etc? Im just curious as I do not have access to it
I am not an expert on PC miler. When you are dispatched you receive a route in your dispatch email that is from PC miler. So the company has gone through with whatever app is needed to verify that route. I have yet to encounter a problem......aside from the one time I listened to my GPS instead of the route provided to me
so really am interested and have been watching your vids and many other, and thank you for posting such detailed information, really THANKS. so do you have your cdl or do you NOT really need one? do you just keep your weight below 26,000?
Either way works fine
Do you have to have your own truck and trailers?
Can I run under 26000k with a 19 f450, without a CDL, would my Gvwr on trailer max be 12000k
Working on getting my CDL. For now I want to run under the 26k
this is an old video i realize but i hope this gets to you. It may be state dependent but did you have to have your truck commercially registered and commercially insured? im getting mixed statements from the transport company and the state telling me yes, no, not sure and dont want to end up on the wrong end of the stick. Thank you in advance
Register at 26k which avoids IFTA but yes it is “commercial” each state varies slightly on their wording but at 26 you’ll be good.
I know you said where you live there are alot of yards u can pick from, do u know if they have alot of yards on east coast?
I’ve only ran there a couple times. I see a decent amount of loads pop up over there but not sure if they are yards, warranty returns, moving....etc
Does Horizon pay 1/2 up front to cover the fuel of the transport? I know Synergy does, not sure if all of them work like that.
It’s an option
@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 Gotcha! I never liked it like that, I’d rather get paid in full after the delivery. Thanks for the answer.
Hi, I live in Indiana and I'm thinking about getting into RV Transportation. Which companies do you recommend and what's the closest one to Indianapolis? I saw a lady called Ms J on a video with Bob from an RV camping show and got totally inspired. Thanks so much for this information and be safe. Cyndi
I honestly couldn’t tell you. I only know the company I work for. I have always stood by and continue to stand by it doesn’t matter how close to home the yard is. It only matters for the first load. After that it’s all the same wether you are in New York, California, or anywhere in between
The minute you said your personal info is yours I instantly got the like and subscribe. Most of these you tubers be twisting the truth. Your a good guy👌
Whats the average pm loaded and you they pay fir empty miles when they deadhead ??
Do u have to lease onto a company to haul campers?
If stuck overnight, can you sleep in the trailer?
Do you need to have an CDL? also are there lots of people towing with 3/4 ton truck? also are there opportunity for people to take just 1 or 2 loads a month?
CDL is not required. Lots of people use 3/4 ton, as long as you meet the minimum of 1 a month you’re fine
@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 thanks for replying back! Another question. my understanding driver get to pick there load from an list on a app, once you pick your load how long do you have to pick the load up? So if i live in MN would it be easy to pick a surround MN destination and still have the time to drive to Indiana from Minnesota after you select your load?
Do you know if they have yards in California / neighboring states. or from Cali to down south?
I know of one in hemet
Fair Winds & Following Seas nice!!! I’m the guy messaging you on Instagram. My IG name is trillbarber. And yes hemet is like 45 min from where I live
I'd like to get into this on a part-time basis. I have a full-time job already but would like to do this on the weekends, Do you think it's possible? I live in San Antonio TX.
No. Most places won’t accept deliveries on the weekend. Not to mention nearly impossible to get from Texas to any yard we have and back to texas in a weekend
Looks like a keystone unit
Thanks for all the great info. I’d like to ask why you chose Ford over Ram? I prefer Ford but have heard Ram is much more reliable?? Thanks in advance
Biggest reason was massaging seat. My spine is toast from military. Get in the RV transport groups on Facebook.......there’s a lot of ram breakdowns
All three (GM,Ford, Ram) have there ups and downs. It is your choice of truck and what options they offer that you want. Ram and Ford have issues with the injection pumps failing. Not sure about GM. But for safety/peace of mind, put a lift pump on to help prevent CP4 failures.
i need to ask someone on here a serious question....I"m considering RV transport...I drove over the road semis for close to 40 yrs..I recently gave up my CDL, although I could get it back without too much resistance. I'm in the process of applying with Wave Transport, and even started an application with horizon...What's the difference between the two?? which one is better?? who has the most loads?? The pay schedule seems to be close, as do the requirements...I really do not the same hassles as with semis..but I know I can make money with the RV transport as well...
Help me decide!!!
Essentially they are the same company. Same owner, same app, same fuel card, from what I’m told same load board
@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 thanks for the info.. was a sailor as well in the 60’s .. US Coast Guard.. also did 3 tours in Vietnam 68, 69, 70
On river patrol boats.. so ..” fair winds and following seas always.. “
I work Thor Motor Coach in Indiana and R.V transport is good money
How is the insurance so freaken cheap! I pat much...much...much....more than $350...like much more! I do have my own interstate authority..my insurances started at $950 a month but progressive more than doubled it at renewel..there was only a $5800 pat out on another driver and also had a bad inspection due to dark window tint. But thats it. I dont get why it would ever increase this much for one truck. I have been hauling steel & other stuff...got in with a really good broker that keeps us pretty busy & pays really well..but wasting a whole run just to pay this insurance premium sucks so looking into other things & come across your video & was just curious if u are tied that company always or can u also do other loads from another broker or shipper ..say if Horizon cant book u due to not enuf loads.
Does anyone know what companys are out of KY
The part I'm still stuck on is acquiring the truck do I just put it in my name or do I need to start a business and put it in that name?
You don’t have to put it in a company name. I originally did because I was running IFTA.
I’m guessing you need a CDL A to haul these?
ruclips.net/video/QXATXrNFmx0/видео.html that video will answer that question. Wander around the library. There’s probably one for just about any questions you have......RV related
Do you run airbags in the street walker?
No
Can I use a ram 2500
Apportioned Tag?
What exactly do you mean by? " She's stock again."
Do you know of any companies down southeast to look into?
How does your pay work with taxes, does the company process your taxes or do you do your own?
Hi, welcome to the channel. Tax video is coming out in a couple weeks
Is Horizon the only company you run for? I was told getting a back haul is easier if you run at least two companies. Still doing my research.
The Aaron Ritter you can’t lease on two different companies doing tow away.
Mason is correct. If you lease on you are running their DOT. You can’t have 2 DOT numbers on your truck
@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 i talked to a horizon recruiter today and asked about how drivers make money with only a 30% chance of a back load, she told me most drivers drive for more than one company, thats why i ask
Hmmm.....that doesn’t sound right at all.
But I could be wrong. I don’t know everything, I only know what I know😉
Hey just subscibe got ur channel from Tow Piglet
Hahaha… street walker!!! Just got my new prostitute a couple of weeks ago. Great info. Thank you sir.
Hi. I am currently working on a semi, earning about 6k in my pocket. But I have brand new RAM 4500, my question is, can I earn more money if working like you?
You will earn more in the semi but your operating costs are a lot higher. It’s a give and take
I was all set then I was told I had to have a class c cdl, so that has put me back a month.
I know many people doing this job without a CDL. Now each company may be different so it depends who you were talking to
@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 it was synergy, they had had me scheduled for orientation and that's when they called and told me I had to have a class C, which in my state is cdl.
I would call and verify with the recruiter. In most states I am almost positive a class C is a basic license
Fair Winds & Following Seas in California a class C is a regular license.
@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 I talked to her and told her that in my state a class D is all you need for towing RV, and she came back with that, but I have made contact with another company and they are just waiting on me to get a couple items to them.
Wish u would of kept the phone close to you. A lot harder to hear you from the distance in the back of your truck.
Where do you sleep?
I'm curious, where do you sleep while on the road? I'm going to guess that you can't sleep in the trailer you are dragging around. Do you sleep in your truck or do you get a hotel every night?
In my truck
@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909
So if you sleep in your truck, the back is considered a sleeper birth? i have a CDL-A my wife does NOT she cant because of health issues, Question is can i haul loaded miles 26000#lbs and she can drive Empty miles or dead head miles While i sleep in truck?
It does not need the measurements required for a sleeper berth we log 10 hours off duty not sleeper berth
@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 man wtf
So u r leased on to a company? I want to start my own business n broker my own loads.
C'mon- tell us the net....
What do you know about team driving? I am a retired truck driver.
I want to do this with my girlfriend.
Because of my pension I can only earn a certain max per month.
Do we both sign up ?
check up on
I see a lot of people driving for Indians and Horizon. If insurance is so cheap, why not start your own company? The reason people lease under other businesses is the benefit of not having their own MC Number and insurance policy. I’m starting a trucking company and looking to add this into my business model. It’s pretty simple. Load boards, book load, and carry on. Why make someone else richer for your efforts. I guess you can say I’m not a company player.
I have a CDL A and bought a 2006 pre-emissions Freightliner SportChassis with ELD to haul my boat from Michigan to Florida twice a year.....and would like to use the Freightliner SportChassis to RVs the rest of the time.
Do you know a company who would hire me with a pre-emissions 2006 truck to haul their RVs?
Do you have to a DOT sticker
I work for Horizon also, I live in Medford and stay out west. I run Pendelton La Grande and Nampa pick ups also. Maybe our paths will cross soon.
That would be awesome. I know Medford well. I lived in coos bay until I was 24
I live in eastern Oregon near Nampa and Boise and want to get into this gig. I want to run in the northwest here and stay busy is it possible?
