7 yr OTR truck driver here w 1 million miles under my belt. The key to making money is limiting your dead head miles. Get a load to a destination and have a load within a percentage range to bring back. I.e. Take a trailer to San Antonio and bring something back to Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, or even Missouri. Now your banking money both ways. It does complicate things a bit, but you'll like your numbers better. 👍
I have the Gen-Y hitch and it’s the way to go, the camper doesn’t effect truck as much (I think they refer to it as “chucking”) another nice thing is it moves the trailer farther from your truck (better turning) The first one you hauled isn’t really designed to be hauled place to place, it’s more like a vacation home, get it to a location, set it up and leave it. I hauled one and it was miserable.
Glad you’re back Matt your videos motivated me to get into RV transport, but I went with wave express. Really bad ass that you’re able to get loads on your way to the RC races.
i have a coachman summit series 8, 261 bhs its similar to the 263. Love the auto leveling and mine has two ACs very helpfully when making dinner. My tundra halls it well in Big Bend area and Up in Utah it has struggled or I should say bogged down a bit before creasing a huge mountain.
Good to see you back Matt. When you go PA or other NE states and you're headed back toward N. IN, take I80 to Youngstown, then I76 to Akron and then on to I71S and then turn west on US 30 toward Ft. Wayne. It'll save you the $18 toll, isn't much out of the way at all, and it's a really good, limited access route!
If you have a CDL you can do single poles and it still is total weight not GVWR combination. I drive for Indiana transport and if you take a load for less than 300 me they waive the pool in fee because that really sucks on a short load
Thank goodness i found ya. Been trying to get an idea on towing that rv. I just bought ine and will be taking delivery in a few weeks. Im super nervous about how this is going to tow down the road at highways speeds.im aware that fuel economy is going to suck but im prepared for that. can you tell me did it sway alot? How about handling? Backing up? I will be installing anderson wdh. And i plan on towing regularly for camping. My tow vehicle is a 2024 ram 3500 single wheel With cummins ho and factory ram bags
That trailer would pull great but you deffinantely need wdh and also sway control. What wdh do you use? Also what sway control do you use when towing tt's.?
Keep in mind that if you keep your bed on the truck, you will be under different total length requirements. Most guys do a bed delete to then classify their truck as a truck tractor. Then you can operate just like a semi. Good luck on your trailer search!
Matt, I have great respect for you and what you do. I drive semi commercially for a major nationwide company. I have a new ram 3500 crew cab long bed. Looking at the math, it just does not seem like you are making much money, considering oil changes, fuel filters, depreciation, tires of eventually. Etc. Keep up the hard work. It just seems for the amount of time that you been working after all the expenses that you are working for a very low wage. Please correct me if I’m wrong. I hope you have great success. as a commercial truck driver, I appreciate your endeavor.
My delivery was on Thursday, but I had quite an adventure on Wednesday night! I ran into a huge thunderstorm in Waco, TX, and I-35 was completely flooded. I later found out there was a tornado in Temple, TX, just a few miles south of where I was. I barely missed it! Who do you drive for? Thanks for the feedback, and good luck to you!
I just bought a new HO srw Ram 3500 & live in Sandusky, OH Wouldn't mind doing short runs going east but the per unit service fee kinda sucks. Fuel prices seems to be steadily dropping. I saw driver for a different company say they're pretty good about waiving the shuttle fee.
They occasionally waive the shuttle fee, but I believe it should be a consistent policy. In my opinion, trips under 250-300 miles shouldn't have a shuttle fee. Nonetheless, they strive to accommodate me, and there are numerous positives to this job that outweigh this issue. Appreciate the feedback!
Did you have to get special license plates for your truck or a change to your drivers license to do the single haul under 26000 lbs? I’m from Texas also and am getting different answers. Thank you.
If you're only doing single hauls, you can use a regular license as long as the combined GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of your truck and trailer is under 26,000 lbs. For instance, if your truck's GVWR is 14,000 lbs, you could pull a single trailer with a maximum GVWR of 12,000 lbs with a regular license.
Thank you for the info. I’ve been following you and some others from different states and some were saying they were required to get 26000 plates. Glad to know not needed here in Texas. Your videos have been great and I appreciate all the time you’ve taken to put them out.
If you really want to do multi-haul, it's time to move. You can always go back as long as you DON'T burn that bridge. You will never know till you try it. Ya know?
There's no way she would pull a trailer-she won't even drive the truck to the grocery store. It would be super cool to have her out on the road, though!
I made around $300 per day after factoring in expenses for lodging. I could've increased that by staying out longer and taking on longer trips. Most of the loads I did on this trip were short, lower-paying runs. Thanks for the feedback, and be safe out there! Also, minimizing expenses on hotels and food could have boosted my profits even further.
@@RVEmceewhere are you getting rooms for 50.00? With our discount room in Goshen is 62.00 and I can’t find them that cheap on the road. Thanks for the video
@@jimprice8612, The Super 8 in Goshen costs $60, but I found the Days Inn in West Memphis for $42 on my way there. Prices can range from $40 to $60, as mentioned in the video. Don't forget to consider Motel 6 for good rates. Also, in Goshen, ask about the transporter rate. Thanks for the feedback!

Hey Matt glad your back!!! I was truly excited when my husband told me he met you. Love your videos. Thanks for the shout out.
It was super cool to meet him out on the road! I definitely don’t envy pulling that giant park model he had though… 👀
@@RVEmceehe was so glad to finally get that delivered!! He definitely does not like the park models. 🤣🤣

I’m realizing there are a lot of funky laws. From the research I’ve done, a bed delete starts around $5k, plus a new hitch. This might get expensive…

@@RVEmcee I drive for Indiana Transport
I just started Rv transporting at the end of March
Are you talking about wave express?
Soooo,
What would happen if you slept "in" the trailer instead of the truck or a motel?
Does Classic Transport offer a fuel discount card? Keep it up!
They do! I actually saved close to 70 cents per gallon on this trip. Some places it’s only a few cents, but it all adds up
Nice nice. Do you race RC cars/ trucks too??
I do! Mainly 1/8 off-road, but I dabble in anything RC. Thanks for the feedback

What kind of per mile rates does Classic have?
Do you worry about vandalism at hotels, do you lock your fuel...
Is a lease payment tax deductible?

If you need IRP/IFTA your company should take care of that for you. Obviously the costs are on you, but they deal with the state for you.
Working on that process now. I need to learn as much as I can before I make the investment in the trailer. Thanks for the feedback!
In case no one told you the shuttle driver pickup fee is tax deductible so keep up with what you’re paying of that fee.
Shuttle fee sounds like a ransom or shake down.

Man for 600 a month I would do that lease for ever!
Have you considered taking your spouse splitting up the driving?
There's no way she would pull a trailer-she won't even drive the truck to the grocery store. It would be super cool to have her out on the road, though!
Do not believe you can do that as his truck would not have a legal sleeper berth. So it wouldn't make a difference...
it's a park model
Towing the smaller park model confirmed my decision to avoid towing a larger one. Appreciate the feedback!
What are insurance costs for your truck……I got a quote for $6500, payable up front
I pay $97 a month for unladen liability insurance. On top of that, I pay around $1,200 every 6 months for regular Texas insurance on it
So what kind of money are you netting after all bills paid?
