    Finally, someone is talking about how long it realistically takes to become fat adapted. I have been doing keto/ketovore for two months and I am just now starting to feel as energetic as I used to. The fatigue just about killed me, but still did not make me want to go back to eating the way I did before. But I too thought I must be doing something wrong because even some of the doctors videos I was watching said that in about one to two weeks you should be fat adapted, and feeling fantastic!

      yes, my hubby and I are at about 8 weeks, but I am still so tired often and bathroom issues and I really want to adjust so we are hanging in there, I thought maybe it was because we had changed from vegan for 12 years, to adding fish and eggs to vegan for 2 more years, but then we have now begun keto...I have had days where I felt something was wrong with me and some other things. so now I know we are not oddballs and it will help my mind to keep moving forward, I dont have cravings 99% of the time, only when i feel shaky I think I need just a small carb..but I dont.

    I went carnivore/keto beginning of April… was kind of thinking this might take a long time for my body to adapt and heal after 50 years of being a sugar-holic! Thanks for the validation. 😊

    I’ve been on keto and intermittent fasting for five months. I’ve gotten all the medical benefits plus I’ve lost 25 pounds. I have maybe four or 5 pounds more to lose all on my stomach. I’m that close to seeing six pack abs for the first time in my life. Yesterday I decided to go deeper into intermittent fasting. I was doing a 16/ 8 and decided to go for 20. My son-in-law needed help today working on his new home and I went there fasted. Managed to do five hours of drywalling and insulation only having a cup of coffee. I had plenty of energy and there was no problem there. My daughter brought in two large pizzas and although they smelled pretty good I had no great desire to eat it and didn’t And managed 22 hours with no food just a cup of coffee. During my High carb eating days I probably would’ve hit the floor in a half an hour.

    I'm two years in and it took me about six months to get fully fat adapted. Since that time I am down 40lbs . and metabolic markers have returned to normal. This is not a diet but a lifestyle change for the better. There is no going back to the standard American diet of sugars and starches. I am healthier now than I have ever been in my entire existence. I am off my insulin and other medications as a consequence of this lifestyle. It's a fair value exchange worth gaining.

    Most videos are so vague about fat adaptation. Its been a month I'm on keto.. 6 weeks to be exact. Most videos say you should be fat adapted in 6 weeks. I am also insulin resistant. All the videos was making me worried because I thought I'm doing something wrong. Most videos say how they lost 20-30 kg in 4 months. Hearing you lose around 10 kg n other comments saying the same is such a huge relief. Finally a realistic video that didn't spike my anxiety level to the max, lol. I am having a hard time keeping my macros n trying my best each day as it comes. Thank you for this video.

    Took me 4 months and a lot of tweaking with foods to get it right. Just this week I literally am fat adapted and feel so good, lots of energy and even enough to start walking 3 miles and weight train. Love this feeling, I’m off 7 diabetic meds and 2 pain meds. That’s exactly why after the third of fourth day on keto I went on intermittent fasting. I do 16/8 or 18/6. The first night was a little rough kept thinking about snacks but kept drinking water. Second day was a little easier. By the third day I was off and running I could stay 16 to 18 hours without having anything to eat other than water and not feeling hungry or thinking about snacks. If you start keto you absolutely have to include intermittent fasting. Your body will realize very quickly what to do with those access keytones when it hasn’t had food for a while.

    Ive just started fasting (snake diet), I built up to this fast eating one meal a day for a few weeks. The first couple of days I felt ok, Im on my fourth day of not eating anything just drinking a salt water recipe and am feeling totally without energy, like cant do shit, goto lay down before I fall down lol. Watching your video makes sense and has made me rethink my approach. Ive got stuff to do and people to take care of so I need to be able to function. Im thinking If I still do the fasting 1 - 3 days and structure the meal to be high in fat, with some veg/fruit and a set amount of carbs (say oats), then taper down the carbs down over the next few weeks, it will make the process a lot less painful. I was a carb junky going into this, but I thought fat adaption would be a lot quicker, as in days not weeks. At present im in ketosis as measured by the pee sticks (full colour), but im not able to use of this energy atm because im not fat adapted yet.
    Fascinating stuff, thanks for the to the point easy to understand video.
    Cheers D

    This is so true. I am about 5 weeks in and keep wondering why I am not experiencing fat adaptation. All other videos are so vague and it’s so encouraging to here these words from you. I find myself trying to fill my sweet tooth with artificially sweetened drinks. Even though they are sweetened with Keto safe sweeteners (no rise in insulin) I am wondering if this is keeping me from adaptation? What is your experience with Keto safe artificial sweeteners?
    I have had to stop making Keto desserts, because I cannot stop myself. I do however feel like each day that passes, my cravings are less, but not in the safe zone yet.

    Would someone start off with better fat adaptation if they previously ate a mixed diet compared to someone who avoided fat?
    I do not feel much discomfort on my third week, except occasionally a feeling light-headedness and slightly imprecise movement (such as striking wrong keys on keyboard) similar to intoxication and below average endurance. But nothing comparable to what I felt during full fasting. After a protein meal I immediately feel warm, but the light-headedness sometimes increases. Maybe my insulin jumps, and maybe I'm drinking too much fats.

    Yeah I love how my doctor has never even mentioned insulin resistance. Only blood glucose. Of course glucose is fine since you have a literal ton of insulin having to take it down to normal ranges. Then one day it doesn’t and you have diabetes. Doctors seem to be stuck in the stone ages with their truly awful diet advice. I did south beach off and on for years before this. Could lose some weight but I tried keto for 2 weeks and lost weight I hadn’t lost in 25 years. Truly revolutionary. The cravings stopped pretty fast for me, probably from doing south beach (low carb but lean meat and vegetables) previously for a couple of years. It starts out very carb restricted and then adds some fruit back in phase 3. So my body seemed to remember. Long story - trying to say it may take less time to adapt if you were not a total sugar addict before starting. Having done reduced carb (sugar addiction already broken) before helps with the cravings but not with your body adapting to ketones. Hope that comes quickly. Pretty sluggish so far.

      I see. Alcohol in general has quite a bit of sugar. Depends on your goals, if you are aiming for health as well and not only weight loss,than quit the wine. It’s sets your liver back anywhere between hours to 72 hours.

    • @LivingKeto
      @LivingKeto  6 лет назад +1

      Ok. And why do you think fat adaptation is going bad? Are you stressed? Insomnia can be a sign of stress or lack of certain minerals. I have had a very hard time with that too. And when you can’t sleep then Growth hormone and IGF-1 hormone which are one of the main fat burning hormones can’t really do their jobs. How tall are you and what is your current weight and what was your purpose with doing Keto?

    For me right now, I can get into Ketosis easily. But, I've noticed I still excrete ketones out of my body. For my dinner, it's all keto, veggies, meat, eggs, etc. But, when I add whey protein, it almost kicks me out of Ketosis and makes me really sleepy for for like 30mins. My urine ketones drop down to moderate from high. About 1-2hrs after, I'm back to ketosis and running on Ketones. Will this sleepiness go away when I take whey protein isolate? Should I take half the amount for now?

    • @LivingKeto
      @LivingKeto  6 лет назад

      Make sure you are not over eating your protein. Your liver turns into sugar more than 3 oz of protein in one sitting.
      Whey protein isolates are really bad, causing big insulin spikes, I would avoid them.
      Try to go with pea, hemp or coconut protein instead and add fet to it as a buffer.
      I hope this helps you out!

    I didnt realise IF and keto diet were NOT one and the same :D So I went straight into it overnight and then began learning as I went along. First I had 14 hours then went to 16 after two days , it was still easy . At the end of three weeks I went up to a few days of 18 hours and then a final 23 hours without food. I was trying for 24 but after 22 it got really stressfull and weird so I listened to my body and ate. It was the best food I ever tasted in my life! I think the diet was easy for me because I ate well prior to it . There was no room for milk -tea because of all the other good keto things to drink so after three days I found I disliked tea with milk and took it with lemon or not at all. After three weeks I thought I should be eating more greens , so started smoothies and then came my first provlem on keto -constipation. So I researched and found out why, then found long term fix of slower increase of the dark greens and short term solution of flax and chia . Unlike others I find Iam generally a little Less tired than normal and I fall to sleep immediately, sleep an hour or so less...and better!! , I have chronic fatigue and fibro and had trouble getting to sleep , sometimes at all, even though I was besides myself with tiredness! No weight loss and no other benefits except Im feeling somehow a little bit cleaner and more empowered about resolving my health

Anyway, negligible difference on tue muffin top and zero difference else where...so Im thinking fatty liver or thyroid needs dealing with. Will try golden seal and milk thistle

      You don't need air once you are fat adapted

      It think it depends how carb dependant you already were. People who don't eat much carbs can probably more easily start a Keto diet

    A great video but just one suggestion - you try to cut down on the use of the word "Basically" because after a while it becomes a distraction. Thanks :-)

      Yep that’s one of those old habits that you notice once you are on camera and is really hard to get rid of

      Living Keto I almost felt churlish mentioning it, but your English is so good and your content so valuable that it seemed a shame to have it marred by this small but noticeable detail. You obviously didn't mind me pointing it out...a further testimony to your character. Not everyone would have responded as genially. ☺

      This is great! Healthy weight loss is 1-2 lbs a week! You are dumping water and burning fat! AWSOME!
