I love how they remixed the comic book Brandon death. I saw it as not only did he piss Negan off, but he was a demonstration to Negan about how his past actions impacted somebody so greatly. Brandon was raised by his Savior parents who idolized Negan, which made Brandon cling on to all the worst things Negan had done and said (along with made up stories about him), being shaped by it. Brandon was so delusional that he genuinely thought that Negan was testing him to see if he was strong enough, because that is something Negan would’ve done in the past. Negan killed Brandon in revenge for killing that innocent woman and her son, but also partially in disgust of something that his old self had a part in creating. By killing Brandon, his biggest fanboy who claimed he was Negan and the one campaigning for the return of “classic Negan”, he was also killing his old, villainous self and putting his past behind him. He wants to be more than just his tarnished legacy. Great writing here.

So I do believe that he was definitely triggered by that whole moment. It's a sort of clash of his two personas, who he was and who is now. Him taking the jacket and bat to me was more of a symbol of him melding the two, becoming the "big bad wolf" again but this time with the intent to protect. (Its fair to say that old Neegan was more about greed.) I am so so so excited to see how you guys react to what's coming next!
