Issue: ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus Motherboard Doesn't Power ON Without CLR CMOS + PSU Paperclip Short

Motherboard was in warranty. So, I went for the RMA.
Turns out my Corsair VS450 (4 years old) had killed my motherboard somehow. I plugged it in a GIGABYTE B75MD3H and that motherboard died too. Gigabyte SC said they will have to replace VRMs on that.
So conclusion, ASUS RMA-ed the TUF X570 and I bought a ASUS ROG Strix 850w 80 plus Gold PSU along with a surge protector for peace of mind.

Original Description:
Hi RUclips Tech Community,
I am seeking help for an issue with my computer as explained in the video above.
PC Specs:
AMD Ryzen R5 3600 CPU
ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus Motherboard
G.Skill Sniper X DDR4-3600 8GB x 2 sticks (F4-3600C19D-16GSXWB)
Sapphire AMD RX 460 2GDDR5 Graphics Card
Power Supply Tried -
Corsair CV650 80 Plus Silver (This is brand new)
Corsair VS450 80 Plus White (This is the one I am using from last 4 years)
I have tried downgrading BIOS from 4021 to 4005 to 4002 but no success.
Also tried putting in new CMOS Battery and as you can guess another power supply too.
The behaviour still remains.
Please review and advise.

help ? asus / "TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) " bios i bought last year tryed to register thru ASUS they said the sticker on th MOBO and serial when checked CMD asus said not correct # and would not register it so no way to refund if goes bad last bios update i checked again thru CMD and now showed no serial # for MB in bios at all nothing just updated bios again same thing no serial # showing seems asus really dont want you to register this MOBO . i guess their fix for incorrect serial # was to not store it in bios now . any one else own this MOBO Run CMD as admin enter this wmic bios get serialnumber and hit enter . to check
@@stevin47 You can use the serial number on the motherboard box or the invoice or the mobo sticker to register. MyASUS app lets you register this way, no problems in that. Dunno why someone would match BIOS Serial # and Sticker.
@@LoveleshKalonia lol i did and they told me the # was not for this product not the one on the sticker or the one that CMD coommand showed was same # but they still rejected it but now after bios updat the serial # will not show thru command prompt . thus i dont thing they want you to register this board now
@@stevin47 jeez... maybe you can use a tweet to get ASUS's attention in this matter. I will be more than happy to re-tweet if you would like.
@John poor life choices were made.
Also TUF not AORUS.
This is the only vid that actually shows my problem straight out
Glad to hear. Hope it helps.
I just installed a new Vid card and no power since. So broke it all back down. Two power supply’s. But if I connect the upper left 4 pin atx plug. It kills the board like a dead short.
i cant believe it, such an easy yet straightforward solution. thank you so much, cant believe it works. i was about to buy a new motherboard, you sir have saved me money.
Glad to hear it helped 😊
Thanks Man for the vídeo.. Hugs from Brazil.
Glad it helped
I have the same model with little bit different but similar problem. I managed to Update Bios but still it doesn't power on. Sad we don't have Asus SC in my country. :(
Thanks for the video it helped me realize how to boot and update bios with PSU cable short.
Glad to hear it helped.
Thanks, this gives me closure about my issues with my mobo. I have had this issue for a year now so this is a new method i can try.
Glad it helped
Thank you, finally I found a video with the same case, after I tried it and the results are correct, the indicator light is on, my motherboard is Asus tif gaming b350 having problems after 3 years of use, I think the problem occurs in the lack of electricity on the psu or weakening power received by the motherboard. but what is certain is that I haven't found any definite obstacles so that this can happen. Tanks
Glad to hear it helped.
I had this same issue with this motherboard and the problem turned out to be the power supply. It took me three of them before solving the issue. All three PSUs checked out fine and they all worked well on other computers. But they were all 700 watts or less. I finally was desperate enough to purchase yet another PSU this time an 850-watt and the board fired up as it should. Apparently, the lower-watt units simply don't have the power it takes to start the board.
That could be the case, I haven't had any issues in the replaced unit as I upgraded my PSU to an ROG Strix 850 watt.
Thank u man. I had similar problem. My pc didnt want to start, so i did what you did and pc turned on
Glad it helped 😊
That's so crazy! It should not be like that! I just bought this motherboard and have a ryzen 5 fresh build and I can't get it to boot or turn on or power up at all.. I wonder if this is the same problem I'm having??!!
I know right? I hope the replaced Motherboard lasts longer or else I am looking at a dead paper weight after warranty expires.
Amazing! It works! Thank a lot
Glad to hear it helped 😊
Started and load windows, but when I power off don't turn on,only if I do the thing with pin 4 and 5. What you recommend? Change the mother board?
@@user-dl9gs5ln3d yes brother, I got my motherboard replaced too. Never buying ASUS again.
Hi, thanks for this awesome video. I have the same issue. When I short the pins the fans rotate but then once I remove the tweezer. It stops and clearing the CMOS doesn’t help as well.
Glad to know it helped.
@@LoveleshKalonia hey, So my mobo wouldnt turn on if I am not shorting the 24atx, I tried clearing the CMOS as well. No QLED, no fan, no power, nothing. Any suggestions ?
@@AjayBhaskar Is RGB glowing when PSU is connected?
@@LoveleshKalonia yes it does
@@AjayBhaskar Your problem seems a little different brother.
This is sad though, so many people having this issue with TUF lineup.
Are you able to kickstart yours using the method explained in video?
I have this and I had to remove a ram stick just to get to my bios and it still wouldn’t boot up, would you suggest buying a new board? Or new power supply?
Sad to hear Jyn. But if everything has failed... Then you will need a new motherboard. A better PSU later will give peace of mind.
Same problem but mine does have the aurora leds on the back when the power supply is turn on
Aurora were lighting up for me too for some time when problem happened first time, but as I was troubleshooting they just died somehow in one of the many attempts and never lit up again in PSU ON condition. I think my old PSU - Corsair VS450 (4 year old) has done something to the motherboard's BIOS bootloader, because it also killed my secondary PC - Gigabyte B75M-D3H. That POST-ed only once with that PSU and then it died on me. Later I broke 2 CPU socket pins... my bad... but highly doubt the PSU.
Since the ASUS motherboard was in warranty, ASUS SC has RMA replaced it, I will collect that this Saturday.
I am planning to buy a Japanese Cap 80 Plus Gold PSU before using the replacement ☹️ thinking about Strix 750 watt.
It may have just been a faulty PSU to Motherboard 24 pin cable instead of the motherboard itself. Did you try replacing just the cable? I have the same issue and might try doing this.
Old PSU was non-modular
Hi, I just wanted to say, thank you for this video, I thought I had a dead motherboard and your tricks here fixed it. Thank you again so much.
Glad to hear 😊
& Happy New Year George!
I am sorry to hear brother, but I was not able to fix this. You can try local technicians. Mine was under warranty so got it RMA-ed.
Similar issue here on x570+ wifi, new build just a few months old. Just turned off a few days ago and will not come back on. The RGB lights are on, but when I press the power button the power supply (corsair rm850x) just clicks and the computer does not power up. If I disconect the CPU cable from the power supply and press the power button, it lights up and the fans spin for a few second and it appears to stay on, but no power is going to the CPU. As soon as the CPU is plugged in, it causes the power supply to trip so no power is being sent to the board and the PSU internal circuit breaker seems to be kicking in. Perhaps a short? Think im going to order new power supply and board to fix issue!! But I will be getting my money back from ASUS as this is just not right.
Yes brother, can't believe ASUS sucks in modern times.
Happened to me, I accidently switched the PCIE cable with the ATX connector (8-pins on top of your motherboard), it didn't destroy it (luckily) but apparently it was not getting any power there, switched the cables to the correct ones and voila it worked again, Yes I should read the markings on the cables but I am getting old and my eyesight is getting dimmer, lesson learned sufficient lighting and use a magnifying glass
Sadly, In my case PC just refused to start normally but luckily it was under warranty.
Been having similar issues after almost 3 years with only a downgrade of gpu. I can do the paper clip trick then hit power button and it stays on. As long as i dont power it off i experience no issues or crashes. Once i shut it off to just not have it running 24/7, the led indicator light goes off and no power. Have to do the manual short to boot it up. Its this certain MB, looks nice and durable, just simply isn't. Thinking odlf switching to another brand on next mb now😢
Yea never again ASUS
I'm going to have to take mine to a repair place as I'm not experienced enough to mess with the MOBO comfortably. Parts came in and I spent like 8 hours building and trying to figure out wtf is happening since I used the ram and psu from my old computer which was working fine before I transferred them to the new computer. Hope mine wasn't dead on arrival.
Good Luck brother. Warranty will cover you.
@@LoveleshKalonia it's annoying I'm not experienced enough that I have to pay someone else to tell if the motherboard is dead, but that just means I need to learn more. I asked them to record the diagnosis process so I can learn for next time. Though I'm more annoyed that there's a good chance my Mobo was DOA in the first place.
@@navandozer I can feel your frustration brother. End user shouldn't face these issues. Specially considering you bought X570 this year, which means ASUS had plenty of time to work out the issues.
An early adopter can expect some issues but by this time this chipset should have matured enough.
Here is my problem :
I installed a ryzen7 5800x on my Asus 570-plus (I had a ryzen 7 3700x)
It has been running for two days.
When loading a game, my pc froze.
I switched it off, and back on. The Debug leds do not light up but all the fans are spinning.
The rgb motherboard backlights stay on.
Not sure if I should try shorting pin 4/5 at the psu connector?
I think you can try... It is not exactly doing any damage...
Power button itself shorts these 2 pins through the motherboard.
You can try.
Hey bro I have ALMOST identical scenario but I have Asus prime x570pro and switched 3800x for 5700x. Hmm... Very interesting. So this problem obviously has something to do with ryzen 5000 and x570 chipset
Mmmm But I have R5 3600.
@@LoveleshKalonia Ive brought mine to local repair shop but technician went on vacation for two weeks. Will ask him to check ur method(shorting pins on 24atx) and turning off Aura. Will post update in two weeks

Damn. Thanks for the video seem like I have the same problem. Thought something happened from the move but it seems ASUS just crapped on me. Any recommendations for a plug play replacement mobo so that I can get my computer up and running without much configuration changes?
Thanks again.
For simple Plug and Play you will have to get the same Mobo. I will recommend MSi Mortar or Tomahawk otherwise or maybe Gigabyte.
@@LoveleshKalonia Thanks.
@@LoveleshKalonia So I went with Gigabyte B550 and it was pretty much plug and play. That hasn't happened before for me, just need to download some drivers. Glad I don't have to reinstall windows. Thanks for the info on this issue.

I have exactly same issue after 1 week ownership of the mainboard. I don't neet to clear bios but I need to power on PSU via ATX connector then aura leds are lighten up. I could not find the issue and now I am trying to sent the mainboard to ASUS.
RMA is the only option. Hope replacement one turns out good
I've had this MOBO for a few years without issue then a few days ago it suddenly stopped booting, no rainbow rgb on the motherboard.
I stripped down the PSU connectors then plugged them again and it worked... for a few days, now it doesn't work at all. Sometimes the rainbow rgb comes back but it doesn' want to boot.
Like you I tried a new PSU (Corsair rm850x to replace the old Corsair rm550x) and new battery for the motherboard but no change.
I guess my only option is to buy a new motherboard ? 🤔
Yes MakiKata, sadly that's only thing you can do... While you are at it, maybe wait for AM5 Motherboards
@@LoveleshKalonia Finally got it to someone more knowledgeable in PC parts than me and he confirmed the MB is dead.
Can't wait for AM5 though, I bought a new one straight away :p

Sorry to hear brother. Even if you have tried the method I am showing, there is no way to fix this issue on our own. I was lucky that it happened to me under warranty.
Guys Ive read through this whole comment section and Ive found some similarities. We almost all have x570 chipset and Ryzen 3000 or 5000 cpu. And almost all have this Asus Aura thing turned on(rgb lights). Have anyone tried shorting those 24atx pins and then going into bios to turn that thing OFF?
I did try that, but didn't fix the issue at that time.
this video saved my day, yesterday after finishing building my new pc with Asus tuf 570x pro and Razen 5900, I had the same problem almost completely disassembled and returned the mobo. but i did the jumper between pin 4 and 5 and the aura light and the fans came on so i rebooted and i was able to enter the bios it gave me a usb problem so i unplugged all the usb ports and got into windows then shutdown and reconnect the USB ports again and the PC works as it should...... thank you very much. For the video Thank you... thank you.. thank you

Most likely bad Mobo if you have a good PSU.
Mine just went rogue yesterday. The aura bar lights up but I can’t manage to power on the mobo. Even tried to short the power SW pins. Didn't try to jump directly on the atx connectors yet tho.
Sad to hear, hope it gets fixed on its own and you won't have to visit SC. 🤞

my tuf gaming shows cpu error (red light) but i tried another cpu and it threw the same. Could it be motherboard error?
it threw boot error once before it died foverer
It could be, CPU is least likely to be bad part.
Hello my brother i have a little similar issue with yours. I just bought this motherboard tuf x570 plus wifi along with it is the 850w psu gold, the board seems turned on because the rgb at the side are lighting up it just doesn't display anything on monitor it says that "no signal", i already did interchange the cables onto mobo and gpu for sure and also i plug hdmi and display cables incase one of them have problem but it isn't, i tried to install bqck my old gpu and it worked, my monitor is fine im sure and also i plug the display cables properly. So i conclude that the motherboard is the problem, i think its faaulty or Maybe i need to bios update it, i have this processor ryZEN 9 5900X and i searched that the must need to be bios update to work. Any thoughts? Pls help me. It cost me too much money, and returning it will take a long period of time.
Hi Ceekhan,
Yes the first thing should be try to upgrade the BIOS first...
You can use the QLEDs lights to troubleshoot further.
You can also try to run RAM at stock speeds to rule DOCP overclock out of the equation.
If you have a heavy power hog GPU like 3090 or something then I thing try avoiding daisy chain of power cables. Use dedicated cables from the PSU directly.
@@LoveleshKalonia sadly i cant do any as of this moment becaause there is no display i cant even go to bios uefi maybe i need to borrow lower series of processor? So that the mb caan proceed to bios aand then update it? Im stuck i dont know wht to do im worried. I have rtx 3060 btw
@@LoveleshKalonia and i see that there is no led lights at the top right of the mobo where you can see the d ram, cpu vga and boot led there is no lights on them, the lights is onnly at the bottom at the diagonal rgb strips at the mobo.
@@ceekhannianga860 Try CMOS reset then... If that brings it up. Try to find the manufacturing month and date on its box to determine if the date is around the time when 5000 series launched or if it is older... Then try to take help from a local computer shop they should help you in BIOS update.
If that fails too... Then don't do the experiment that I am showing you here just get it RMAed in warranty. You shouldn't do too much as it is brand new. If you scratch anything it will become troublesome for you.

Either your GPU is at fault or motherboard's PCIe slot.

Hi, i follow your video but unlucky to boot and led code still not working.. any advise
Even holding power botton longer not shutting down... please help
If your motherboard is in warranty then I suggest just get it RMAed. If not, you can play around some more. But I suspect that it is dead if nothing works so far.
I took out my mobo to change the casing + changing some new parts and i think highly possible is the mobo because cpu is new and the other parts i tested was working. I buying a new mobo and to test it agn. Praying hard is that it is not the psu . Btw using SeaSonic, it has high review on it and after watching several video, MOBO has the higher chance to be Faulty from most part on the computer parts. TESTED the Video and the MOBO show light but immediately I drew the connector 4 and 5pin the MOBO died straight. My Conclusion on my case is that the pin on the 24pin on the mobo is faulty, lightly is 3 years old and is the part that is the hardest to take out .
Yea mobo is the least reliable thing these days
Hi all..
Sorry to post on a old video
I was having a funny issue when I shut down the PC
It won't boot again unless I play with the power switch on the PSU on/off on/off and pressing power on the case until the PC post
After some fiddling in the bios I have seemed to have found the issue there is a setting for Aura (F4), Turned Aura off.
This has fixed my issue, I hope this post will have helped someone with the same problem in the past or in the future
Regards
May help someone someday.
That's a good guess btw. I had mine Aura driver updated through Armour Crate just before it went bad
I had my motherboard TUF Gaming x570-Plus, with gtx 1050ti, 16gb ddr4 3200ghz, ssd 1tb and a power supplier of 700w. I bought a Rx 6600xt Eagle 8gb and i connect everything right, but the pc was not showing me the led light of the motherboard. Then when i do the turno on with pin 4 and 5, it works propperly but after turn of the pc the led light are gone and i cant turn on with the normal buttom of pc. Then some answer? Mmm maybe there are a conection that is causing the power of the motherboard go to earth, maybe a conection in the motherboard is wrong after shutdown in a wrong way. (Sorry about my english)

i have the same motherboard similar problem but the PSU is not the issue
Yes it is a motherboard problem.
Guys I started having the same problem but my mobo was Asus Prime x570-pro - I had 750watts 80 Gold Psu from deepcool(which Ive bought used and PRESUMABLY it was used for mining) I also switched my Ryzen 3800x for 5700x and it all went bad just after one or two days 😂 Mobo just stopped starting(only rgb lights were on) I initially thought the problem was with PSU so I switched it to 850 PLATINUM one from Fractal Design - it worked but was unstable(could restart on it's own). So I thought okay I need more testing(maybe new PSU is also bad) and next morning it just stopped starting AGAIN so I went to store and Ive bought A THIRD PSU 😂 But there was no miracle - mobo was DEAD(no shortage on ATX12v line gladly but something is obviously off with VRM). So this faulty PSU not only died on me but it dragged my mobo with it and forced me to buy two new PSUs.
CPU RAM and video card(thank God 🙏) survived and Im not sure which has caused the problem initially - maybe it's because I switched CPU maybe because PSU was used and maybe it's because Asus is getting worse and worse with each new gen. But after reading all these comments Im starting to think that it's not just me - but some problem with Asus and x570 chipset
Yes, you can blame ASUS. Right now I upgraded to a used RTX 3090 and started facing memory issues. I had to downclock the RAM from 3600MHz to 3133MHz.

@@hazonku 🥲, Which brand did you go for this time?
Fixed my problem
Same problem you had ?
@@LoveleshKalonia there was no post. Removed the battery and change the SSD. It booted to Bio
@@changerwu2964 good to hear, you fixed it.
same problem here, wtf ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus/BR
Yes, Shame on ASUS. These issues are expected from Gigabyte.
Me too.. Amigo tu foi pro RMA ou conseguiu solucionar de algum modo? .. Comprei uma X670e e não tá dando boot tb.
Sorry, Using Google Translate to understand your question.
I couldn't fix it, I had to take it to ASUS Service Center and get it replaced under warranty.

thank you for the answer..

I have the same problem.
No fix so far...
@@LoveleshKalonia Follow up. After a long process of trial and error I narrowed down the issue with the mobo mounting to the chassis so I removed all screws and the dead slots are operating. Perhaps a grounding issue or the chassis is warped causing the mobo to warp and make the cpu pins bend just enough away from the contact points to disable the ram slots. weir huh?
Weird... Yes, But it just didn't work for me. Had to replace it under warranty and luckily it happened within warranty period.
I have the exact same issue with my Asus Tuf plus wifi
Unfortunately no one has been able to find a fix for it. You either get it replaced under warranty or buy a new one.
I finally figured that out...so the shorting of the pins just says your PSU is good for the most part. The mobo issue for me was an Aura hub incorrectly installed...grrr lost 8 hours
@@gishman9 Glad to know your issue is fixed now :)
@@gishman9 So how can I fix it ? Please let me know as soon as possible 🥲
@@techysuman2126 this is too generic of a question. Depends on your setup. If the shorting of the pins works, that means most likely PSU is ok.
I'll have the same issue, it turns out my Power Button not connect properly, wasted my 3 Hours 😂
🤣 Money Saved
No power sulppy ...minueam 850 watt
Yes, that's why I bought a Strix 850watt for replacement board.
Same issue with asus prime plus b450, never going to buy an asus product again
Yup, me neither.
Am facing same issue with msi x570
@@kidsABCart X570 is like a BETA chipset at this point lol.
I got it fixed, turns out there was a bad solder joint on a very small resistor near the cpu socket
@@Kasev309 That's good to hear
Bios chip
sorry what?
Thank you for the video.. Same exact issue.. I feel like mine is probably out of warranty..
Ill check but for now its going to have to remain plugged in😅
All I did is swap power supplies and graphics card. And all of a sudden it wont boot.. Took the power supply to a different pc and it turned on right away, so I knew the psu was fine.. I’ve quadruple checked connections.. had no idea whats going on
Now you are load testing 24*7 haha
Found the solution ruclips.net/video/eWpJu0daW7c/видео.htmlsi=QBRcuYIIKcipO4_M
Basically its a resistor responsable for the boot that is faulty 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Happy 2024
Amazing if that works. Sorry I can't understand the language. Happy 2024 to you too! 🎉
We appreciate the solution but it's in Spanish
So send back the shitty motherboard, gotcha. I had a bad feeling about the TUF brand. I should listen to my intuition more often.
Yea, Me too never buying ASUS again.
