Hello, Arek here. Today I bring you a boss run of first Touhou game. To be honest, I though about doing some other game first but decided to go with HRtP. It is very unusual and, unfortunately, mostly forgotten. Even among countless Touhou fangames I only know about single one where gameplay is done in same style. Yes, HRtP is not perfect (far from it) but it is still fun to play and it is among my favorite games in the series. All bosses are defeated without taking damage and using bombs. I plan to record some other Touhou games but I don't have that much free time lately so I can't say when I will be able to do it, sorry. I hope you like this video.
And do you intend to go full lunatic into all of them, or is this an exception? Because things will get brutal depending on how many games you get to play with your free time.
@@kirimusse Most likely I will try to record everything on lunatic. At the very least, I will not lower difficulty in my favorite games. There are plans for some fangames too. It will take quite a long time. I do like to play games without recording anything too, after all. :)
I think I know where Toby Fox might have gotten a costume design from now... Jokes aside, still think its funny a famous bullet hell series started as a Arkanoid style game. Also Mima.
One of things that I love about this game, that the others sadly couldn't continue (likely for gameplay reasons) is the sheer scale of the bosses. The enormity of these imposing entities really gives them a sense of otherworldly power that the other games don't carry in the same way. Not to say the other games are bad for this reason though. It just makes this one unique.
I definitely agree. My first games were this and Phantasmagoria of Dim.Dream and after playing all other Touhou games it took me until WBaWC's crazy final boss sequence to feel like I was fighting an actual god again. Not to say the other final bosses are bad, far from it, fights like the ones for EoSD, PCB, PoFV, SA, UFO, or again WBaWC are amazing regardless but those take more of a personal and emotional approach and you don't feel like you're fighting a power that's way above yours (maybe except with SA's final boss cuz nuclear power is op as hell). It would be aweasome for a new touhou game to make a gigant final boss.
That is absolutely impressive! I've never seen anyone play this game in such a skillful way. Most just talk about how the orb constantly gets in their way and drop the game, but you've made a Lunatic no damage run. Amazing. As for the game itself, I personally feel like there's something in this game that Touhou slowly lost. Stuff like bosses having different sizes, multiple points to damage and consisting of multiple elements, or Konngara having a ton of animation for such a game, or the overall gameplay. I quite like it, and unlike SoEW, as flawed as Highly Responsive to Prayers is, it's not an *utterly* broken mess.
Th1 despite being different i consider it has the best bosses in the whole series, sariel's appearence, her theme and the way she changes backgrounds is quite epic
shoutout to how one of the bosses literally just has beta screenshots in the bg lol (sariels final phase, mainly the appearance of a early stage clear screen)
Yeah, the non-boss stages are more akin to Arkanoid, with the inversion that instead of dying if you miss the ball, you die if the ball hits you (as opposed to hitting with with ofuda, your gohei, or a slide kick)
Nice. Quit at boss 2 because i couldn't get used to the controls even after installing a keybind, haha. Plus, the concept is cool but the ball is super annoying to manage even on easy mode, and bombing is unreliable since you have to press 3 buttons simultaneously instead of just a click of a single button The music was good, but it was a tad earrape which is pretty different compared to RubixNG's uploads which i listened to on RUclips, heheh. I think i was going insane trying to manage that ball, LOL! It's an addicting game though.
Wow... You are incredible. I mean, some attacks are pretty hard to dodge. And you did it without bombs. I don´t think I can do the same. At least I finished Makai route on Lunatic without continues, and that is something.
First time watching anything Touhou and I'm reminded heavily of Pocky & Rocky. Mostly due to the playable character being a priestess that shoot cards and can repel bullets with a wand(?) .
And this is the only touhou game like this reimu uses her gohei more as a club than a purification rod, and the rest of the series is a danmaku series.

HRtP is such an underrated gem. Sadly it gets ignored, being in the PC-98 era.

Onmyoji & Shintoism was never used at such an extent in a videogame before this! It's brilliant!

That wand called gohei or the purification rod

Reimu's design in the first 5 games (PC-98 era) was based on Pocky/Sayo-chan.
