The boss design in this game is amazing, specially considering this game is from 1989. Dracula's second and third forms make the Cookie Monster from the first game look like a draft in a kid's notebook.

Dracula’s second phase in Castlevania (1986). He’s supposed to be the Curse of Man.
Dracula 3rd form and Death are the only bosses I can't beat without a subweapon. Dracula 3rd form, I can only beat with the axe.
But 2nd form is the coolest and most creepy. Too bad they didn't bring it back for any of the sequels.
I’ll be honest with you guys, I played this game a lot in my childhood, one of my favorites ever, and after looking at the boss fights I have no idea how in the hell I finished this game, it was a tough one.
Come for the boss fights, and stay for the AWESOME soundtrack!
I needed Alucard to even beat Drac’s third form back in the day. One of his upgraded fireball attacks launched up at an angle allowing me to bypass the roller coaster platforms.
I only ever beat it with sypha.
I need Trevor with the axe.

Both in this case. Castlevania 3 went all out on the FDS’s extra sound channels that were missing from the NES. The hardware we had simply couldn’t handle it.
Getting the Japanese originals patches into the recent collection was a real treat.

It already exists, it's called Bloodstain: Curse of the Moon (more like a remake, but you get my point)

@@Krendall2 There's actually a fan made remake of Simon's Quest complete with boss battles. It looks like something that could've been on SNES. It's pretty impressive!

4:52 - I don't remember Alucard having white long hair in that game.
This is the Japanese version. Also note you can sort of see nips on the medusa boss when she fires her bow. Oh, and Sipha's actually a girl in this one.
I think its some kinda rom hack, the Japanese version still had the short black hair alucard....

Lots of comments about alucard looking different, but here are some other differences I noticed from the US version I played as a kid. Level 6 after the flying dragon runs away there's that part where the water level is rising. I always encounter a steady stream of bats there along with the fish dudes. Also, there's usually candles on that part too. And in the mummy fight I noticed his mummy wrappings are shooting straight where on my version they fly in an up and down pattern which makes them harder to dodge.
This guy's got some incredible skill though.

Impressive! I have to ask: how hard is it to go through the game while actively trying to avoid whip powerups? I imagine since even enemies can drop them it presents a whole new challenge.
Rumon Gray This is a different or alternate version because as you advance enemies become harder and will not yield to a whip that’s similar to the one used in castlevania 2 simon’s quest when in CV3 the whip is shorter. The bosses weren’t even attacking in some cases in these clips.
@@runitback5066 No no, I'm specifically talking about having to avoid getting the whip powerups themselves as he had to play through the levels to get to those bosses. Having to avoid hitting candles with hearts (which would become the first whip upgrade), or avoid getting them from random enemy drops. Must've been a difficult enough journey without even having to worry about that.
@@BaneKeldare I understand just pointing out the obvious game alteration. That would be a serious chore to go through the game avoiding a whip upgrade might even be impossible.
Rumon Gray it's very likely he just played the levels normally, died to the boss, and then worked his way back from the checkpoint, completely avoiding candles the second time around
doing it like this is far easier than avoiding everything from the start of the level
he also starts each boss battle with only five hearts (the default after taking a death), backing this up

Dracula's 3rd form look like a Pazuzu, but also Pazuzu is a boss from Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, which I believe it's a callback
Bosses seems to have a more forgiving hit box that I remember on this video 🤔...
Tony USB And your memory hasn’t failed cause the bosses were nowhere near this passive in their attacks especially as you move towards the middle to last stages and then Dracula’s castle.

@@runitback5066 and Tony USB, both of ya'll are correct in your memories and no it's not some "Mandela Effect". Think back....heck even play the Castlevania Collections on both US and Japanese versions, when running from the rising water in "Atlantis" or the second half of the boss fight with the...I guess you could call it the Uroboros, but flying dragon is fine. There were obvious mermen everywhere, but they didn't even drop a whip upgrade, it's been awhile for me but weren't some bats missing too? The lack of candles, except at the end and who here besides the player in video has dodged Death's big ol' nog when it came flying in and nowhere near the top of the platforms to jump over. Now I'm not trying to take anything away from the tuber, it is very impressive and I myself have the itch to try this: no power up, no dying, and no Sub Weapon schtick a try. But I think I'll probably end up giving in and just beating the game normally and keeping my sanity. I grew up with these games I probably could've, (in my lifetime) set some records like not dying the entire playthrough twice.....but I can't replicate nor even come close to those accolades to date. But all in all a good video I'll probably watch again.
an impressive run! Though I wonder if this was the PAL release? Alucard's sprite has been changed, the music is off, the title screen looks different as well. Lots of little changes that got me wondering

Sypha normally has longer hair. Most notably, her replica in SOTN and POR look almost identical to her appearance here, 8-bit crunch removed . I do like the show's depiction tho

Damn, no hearts no weapons, stock whip, some would say you're doing shit the hard way even tho you made it look easy as cake...played this decades ago & even with weapons & powerups, some parts were tricky, I'm BLOWN!!!

You actually forget one boss the cyclop which turn Sypha Bernades to stone
He probably counted him as a "refight" (reason why the second giant bat boss and the mummies x cyclops boss are not included)
That don't count it must be included as the boss after Grant it was be added as there is it in the netflix series

The ai and how the enemy fight you is exactly the same the diffrent is how much damage they dealt so it's the same and it's a no hit boss.. very impressive
Triple boomerang on medusa is against instant kill. Hardest boss to me was cyclops

This is footage of an emulated version of the game. He only recorded the bosses, but he did actually play through the game, he just doesn't show it since it isn't the purpose of the video.

@@the1stwing It's still a ROM hack of some kind. It's the Japanese bosses and soundtrack, but it's in English with the English font, and a complete redesign for Alucard to match later games.
