Oh my, just what I’ve been waiting for,,,,and singing with it, yes that’s awesome, I been singing Angeline for awhile,,, and my son bought me a secondhand banjo for my birfdey this year,,,,,this will help (so so much )this lil old Irish gal living in Australia, love the way you teach, you handsome man you xxx much gratitude 🙏 appreciate your time and heart energy,
Hot dang! When I heard Patrick Ross' rendition of Angeline The Baker on a Banjo Instrumental channel on Pandora a few months ago, I was blown away! I just had to play it. As a third year beginner on the banjo (who really has time for this?), I turned to my RUclips crutch. Unfortunately, most of the instructional videos use clawhammer for that tune, but I'm a Scruggs bigot, and it sounded ideally suited to that style, so I struggled, unsuccessfully so far, to get it just right. Then Pankey comes along and breaks it down so that, like so many other tunes I've learned from him, it's almost embarrassingly simple to play. Thanks Jim. Keep 'em coming!
This one kicked my butt. I usually get through your lessons without too much difficulty, but this one for some reason ate my lunch. This is a great tune. I'm usually into bluegrass/gospel and I don't know how to classify this one, but I love it though. Thanks for the lesson Jim! I really appreciate you taking time to teach us banjo. God Bless You!
Hi Jim, again it is a great excitement to see your clip an get your Tab. You are one of the most impressive teachers and so much helpful. I thank you very much again.
This one is still one of my absolute favorites of your tutorials. It sounds like pure magic when you play it. I just can't get it to sound even close to this, but I'll try until I do!
I'm so not ready ready for this lesson(only 3 weeks of ownership under my belt but I got cripple creek now). But I had to watch to hear how it sounds and I'm so glad I didnt wait. Now I'm going back to lesson 6 cos i gotta learn this banjo
Hey Jim -- another excellent video. Your enthusiasm for the music and the instrument comes through loud and clear. I had heard this a number of times at various BG festivals but never could get too interested in it....until I heard your version. Now I have another bluegrass standard under my belt. More Christmas tunes?
Great tune and tutorial Jim! I bought your 2020 tabs & find it much easier to learn with that too. Please do more similar to this & consider doing The Weight by The Band (I'm sure you get asked to do that a bit). Thanks from Sydney Oz.
Hey Jim thank you for all of the lessons! The other day I listened to “Red Prairie Dawn” and fell in love! Was wondering if you would think about making a tutorial of it? Thank you!
Hey Jim, I just finished all the songs on the “learn these next ” playlist, what songs would you suggest learning next (songs that aren’t easy, but also not necessarilly hard)?
Get the tab: sellfy.com/wildjimbo/p/angeline-the-baker/
Thanks, Jim! You're, by far, the best banjo teacher on RUclips!
Wow, thanks!

Have fun with it. Let me know how you do with it.
I'm really resisting the urge to grab the tab. I think I'm learning better by watching and listening to you.
You can do it!!
It took so long, but I got it! Thank you!

Great addition to your series of videos, Jim. This is an old favorite, and it sounds awesome on the banjo in C or D. Thanks.

Glad you enjoyed it! Unfortunately, I have no Christmas tune repertoire.

I’ve never tried to play that tune on the banjo.
Hey Jim thank you for all of the lessons! The other day I listened to “Red Prairie Dawn” and fell in love! Was wondering if you would think about making a tutorial of it? Thank you!
I’m not familiar with that.
Jim Pankey thanks for the reply! You should give it a listen it’s a very very pretty song!!
Hi Jim, any chance you could do a version of Cherokee Shuffle, would love to learn it.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I cannot figure out why I'm finding this so damned difficult!
Tunes are like that sometimes
Hi Jim! Is there any chance you will make a video tutorial how to sing and play at the same time?

@@JimPankey Awesome! Like a banjo Christmas gift)
This tune sounds sooo much better on the banjo in the C position than the D position...IMHO
It’s certainly easier to play out of C position
my neck is getting a cramp ...i play this on fiddle dulcimer mandolin and so on
Might as well add banjo to the mix
hey, like your approach. wanted to get your TAB but the links don't work!
They’re working for me… but try this: wildjimbo.sellfy.store/p/angeline-the-baker/
Hey Jim, I just finished all the songs on the “learn these next ” playlist, what songs would you suggest learning next (songs that aren’t easy, but also not necessarilly hard)?
At this point you should probably be looking and listening to Earl Scruggs and figuring out what he’s doing.
It would really be good if you had one of your students. Playing a guitar in the back ground. Lol.
Haven't had a guitar student in 3 years...
Which banjo is this? The one I’m using is borrowed and I love the tone of this one.
To clarify, I want to buy one that’s great but not going to break the bank. :)
Just read your description. This is the banjo I want... :) thanks
Yup, it’s the RK Dirty 30s. 😊
