    I grew up in a house of music and song. Friends and family sitting around pick'n any instrument you wanted and telling old stories. My dad pick'n the 5-string is my favorite.. Thanks Dad & Mom... He heard the music & she heard the lyrics.

    At some point, Alison really needs to do a fiddle tune album. Thanks for sharing this.

    I can't remember when I heard such a long tuning when anticipating a song right away! I appreciate getting the video
    of the intimate experience with Alison and the band! Worth the wait on one of my favorite bluegrass tunes, Angeline the Baker, though I was somewhat dissappointed. I love to hear the singing of it, thoughtheir opening playing is great on this!
    I just love Alison Krauss and band all the same.

    Reasons this is awesome: 1. Angeline the Baker is my favorite fiddle tune to play! 2. The woman who's the reason I picked up the fiddle is playing my favorite fiddle tune! 3. I don't play the B part like that! I. Must. Learn. This. 4. The "Alisonisms" while they tune. and 5. I've always wanted to see Dan play banjo! Oh, Vince Gill is cool, too.

    Difference between a rock band and a bluegrass band is that a rock band can play all night and never tune and a bluegrass band can tune all night and never play. This little video shows why these two are highly regarded professionals and the rest of us aren't.

    • @wallycherry
      @wallycherry 5 лет назад +1

      The difference is rock can't play this.

    I know a lot of you are just goofing around about the tuning, but for you non-musicians it’s not simply a matter of tuning your own instrument, which they could each probably do in 15 seconds. When you’re using your ear and you aren’t all tuning to an electronic standard (a tuner) it turns out you have to fine tune to each other which involves a lot of splitting hairs. Most people can’t hear the difference, but for pros it’s fingernails on a chalkboard unless it’s right.

    Jump right to 3.55 if you don't like tuning - even though it is done by Alison Krauss and Dan Tyminski in person ;-))

    This song is often - if not more often - presented as an instrumental, especially in bluegrass circles.

      not sure, but i believe she changed to a non-standard 'cut tuning' for the drones.

    Can't believe I had to sit through over three minutes of crap before the song starts. Once they do start playing, it's awesome.

  • @TheBibleWitness

    Uh, thats because it's an instrumental. If you don't know about something, perhaps its best not to comment about it. I'm not saying that to be rude, I promise that advice will come in handy.
