Saw Stuart in about '78 when he was 14. He and Allison Brown, she was 13 I think, were playing with a band in So Cal and the two of them came over and competed in the "band" contest in Bill Grant's Hugo Oklahoma festival. The two of them played about five instruments in their 3 song set. They tore it up but didn't win. Should have. He was that good or close to it when he was 14.
Ha ha, yes! (I might be half dead though, because only one foot was tapping, although my head was bobbing up and down, and I had a huge grin the whole time.)

Originally this was a fictitious band featured in O Brother, Where Art Thou? I believe that Dan Tyminski, and maybe others here, actually performed the music in the movie.
He’s right in time with the intro by Stewart. He and Stewart have played together for many years. Other band members came in dragging it down. Couldn’t keep up with Duncan and Compton so they had to slow down to their tempo.
@@bdfghm what are you talking about? The guys have a clearly established swing and tempo that's gone on for like 2 minutes when he cuts in and goes way too fast. It ruins an otherwise terrific performance. Use your ears and don't just be a mindless fanboy with knee pads dude
Those familiar with MC’s talent and musicianship know. I’ll not criticize you personally as you have done me. I’m done with this childishness and jealousy.
The fiddle is on fire! Great playing!
Stuart Duncan is a master fiddle player.

Stuart Duncan is just about the best in the business.

Never heard the song played at this tempo, usually presented as a march. Duncan steals the show, but his companions are also superb.
Playing along on my fiddle tonight, slo mo. Stuart Duncan my mentor!
this fiddler is amazing!!
Yeah, that’s Stuart Duncan. We played at the same festival one time. He seems like a pretty nice guy!

Good version. Mando player's timing is off. But terrific fiddlin'
Mike Compton’s timing is never off.
He's rushing quite a bit for the first several bars
