I can definitely see his point. As much as I'd like to see more in the invincible universe, having it turn into something that drags on long after it should have ended, with Kirkman churning out more chapters just for the sake of it would turn it into just yet another series that goes on forever for no real reason other than money

I respect his decision. With so many franchises these days that just beat their dead horses until it's dust, it's refreshing to see someone tell their story and then move on from it.
Sure it's hard to make something that's as popular as your previous work, but that's the point of art. Always try to make something original even if you're the only one who likes it.

As cool as I think an Invincible extended universe would be, I have to concede that all the major stories have been told and have been concluded satisfactorily. I don’t see how the story could continue to develop in as meaningful a way as it has without retreading old ground. What’s really left? Invincible-clone-robot hopping universes as a multiversal conqueror? Why would he do that? The adventures of Markie on earth? That would be neat but what kind of real threat would Markie face anyways? Nothing that Invincible hadn’t already beaten or couldn’t crush with his empire. The adventures of his daughter in the peace corps? We already know that she settles into her role as Invincibles ambassador after his war with the coalition, so what story is there left to tell?

Reading Invincible made me feel like I was reading a manga, it had a linear narrative and a conclusion to it like in most mangas that had a definite end. It was something different compared to Marvel and DC titles that are still going on with more stories and retcons that may be overwhelming to some readers.

Invincible is the closest thing to Japanese manga in the west.
So far the show is the only one ive seen that closely follows the comic without just using at as a reference and doing its own thing like the MCU, which is exactly like an anime adaptation of a manga.

All stories seem to have diminishing returns purely because the creators switch hands like Kirkman pointed out. Perfect case in point is the status of Supergirl in comics today versus her heyday during 2005-2011. She is a shadow of her former self who has arguably less drama to deal with than her previous incarnation yet is arguably more moody and sullen than ever. Her 2005-2011 self was more happy and was only moody on occasion.

Reading Invincible makes you realize how much command Robert Kirkman has of Superhero fiction, the cliches that come with them and the comic book format in general. Every time I thought he would go the usual route, he did something far more shocking and interesting without it being the usual mean spirited and "subversive" garbage everyone loves doing, it makes sense for his world of Superhero's and themes he tackles.

  • @loudradialem5233
    @loudradialem5233 9 месяцев назад +4

I don't want it to continue.
One of the things I like about Invincible is that it has a definitive end.
The story is about Mark and him becoming the hero he wants to be.
The journey to that goal is the main attraction.
He wants to be an invincible hero that saves all, but what does that even mean?
Never killing? To always uphold a broken status quo that doesn't serve the weak? To serve the interests of his country, planet, race or himself?
We just got the answers to all these questions. You might not like the answers, but we got them.
All the other stuff like Terra, Marky, Angstrom's son, etc. are world building elements. They exist to make the world more interesting, but they aren't the main point of the story.
Mark is. And we got it. The end. And, please, let it be.

I mean the Invincible Manga/comic ended. but the whole reason it did was so that it didn't go stale I personally love the fact Robert Kirkman did what he wanted to do he is an amazing writer who just had mature themes that he wanted to explain to people and it ended on a very high note that I personally believe is quite fitting. People need to learn to continue a series as beautiful Invincible would come with backlash and would not be as fitting let something that is as amazing as that story end the way he wanted it to. for example Spider-Man has been running for over 50 years never ending which has caused him to run Stale they should've ended his story a while ago let Invincible rest in peace his story has reached his climax and end just as it always should've been.

This is what comics need, a consistent story with an ending. There're way too many writers in Marvel/DC with no type of consistency to the stories, just different writers with different interpretations of the characters and cosmology, this is why DC and Marvel should be left out of crossover Vs discussions too.

I think the decision to have the comic end is great and makes it feel like a complete narrative and doesn't have the story drag on. However I think it would still be cool to see more of the invincible universe so I think short stories that add background to already existing characters or give us a glimpse of the future of that world or even alternate dimensions could be a interesting way to give fans more invincible without dragging out the story and making it never ending.

Good for him for sticking to his guns on that. Mainstream western comics are a mega drag to get into, cause you're always reading about Spiderman being poor and without a romantic partner 20 times over, or Batman ever struggling to cope with being Batman and/or being happy, meanwhile the Joker does what he wants all the damn time. Nothing ever changes or evolves, it must always return to the status quo. The best thing about reading a novel is the bloody journey and that includes the ending, that's what makes it satisfying. Loved the comic when I read it a few years ago, and I love it even more now due to it staying done, it had a story to tell, told it and wrapped up. Fucking beautiful.

The main difference with comics and manga is that usually manga stories end. Its makes them feels more substantial but still easy to get into. What I would love to see is more characters of the Invincible universe getting their own comics...to greatly expand their stories (such as The Guardians of the Globe) - heck, let's also have more stories of the well known characters, such as expanding on the lives of Omni-Man, Black Samson, Rex Splode, Dupli-Kate, Robot, Monster Girl, Telia, etc. Another thing that can work is having a comic book series about Invincible's interference with the timeline - seeing how everything could have gone if The Guardians of the Globe survived: would Mark and Eve still end up together; would Oliver still be born; would Rex Splode still sacrifice himself; would Robot still betray his friends and loved ones; would the virus still be created; would Telia have a bigger role; would Anisa still die in the end?
Another thing that could work is allowing Invincible to officially be part of the Image Universe, so other characters of the franchise can make crossovers appearances.

@@Khalfrank There’s no way a sane individual just compared the walking dead to the hit animated show invincible 😂🤦🏾‍♂️
And used a live action show to an already well received animated series with heaps of action packed and intriguing story with enough material to make 5-6 seasons 🤷‍♂️😂
Read the comics we still haven’t got to viltrumite war, Thragg vs Omni and invincible, invincible vs invincibles of Other timelines, Dinosaurus, threxa attack, conquest vs invincible, Nolan and Allen adventures, angstrom levy, evil robot, coalition of planets vs viltrumites, viltrumites living on earth, Battle beast vs thragg, Nolan becoming king 👑, 🤷‍♂️ and many more action packed storyline’s 🤷‍♂️😂
The fact you compared Twd to invincible is just plain idiotic and funny 😂 and I’m just gonna assume your trolling

Sometimes you just have to end a story, people want to drag stories on until it gets weaker and then the audience can complain then compare it to when things were good.

Looks like he learned this lesson about ending a story with twd comic. The ending is horrible and you can see that he just finished it like that because he was already too tired and without any decent story to tell anymore. All that part of Carl crying saying he is tired and stuff was literally the creator himself admiting he was tired of that story.

Doesn't have to go on forever. Just a few comics to rap up loose ends or a few "what if" style comics that touch on the other universes. Personally, as much as I love the comics, I don't want them to go on forever either but fans of any kind of media hate ending a series on a cliffhanger or just having a bunch of loose ends. End it on a good satisfying note before some years down the line someone else gets a hold of the rights and ruins it with a shitty sequel.

I get Robert point of having story end but after reading all the comics these past two days he left so many cliff hangers for the story.
If he truly wanted the story to end he shouldn’t of gave the fans hope of more content in the future with levy son robot maybe coming back war between siblings Markus and terra there is so much more story to be told.
So it’s not really fair of him to just stop it all.
And there is good story between Markus and terra war arc plus thragg had many many children one of them probably have traits of the father

If you read the comics then I don't know where you get this potential war between Marky and Terra from, the only panel in which any conflict between those two happen is the one with Terra being mad with Marky for breaking her space Ipad when se was teenager, like what are you on about mate? Unless I missed out on a particular issue or spin off, you seem to be day dreaming about stuff you made up in your mind. Invincible's story is pretty tightly done, Robot wasn't even teased to come back, he was left alone, sad and defeated as a lonely brain. Abandoned by everyone he ever loved and forever stuck as a machine of sorts, that's as tight an ending as can be.

@@richardsantosgarcia8972 terra said in the last comic she wanted split off with the peace corps because they’re called mark hypocrite for starting a war, and with marky reconciled with his father mark at the end I believe marky will take the father side while terra won’t and let’s say mark dies the two would have civil war between them.
With robot I never said the one trapped in the jar but the one in other dimension with marks body.
Robot could come back to start a war and then probably mark would need his robot help to find way to defeat himself aka him returning into the fold.
Levy son will probably get his revenge and maybe kill mark and then all

My favorite stories are those with a good beginning a great ending and that stays consistent through out the series. Revivals and unnecessary sequels show a lack of imagination. Whatever ideas of villains and story-lines I might have could just be turned into it's own thing an be part of a new franchise.

I liked the comic book. The cartoon doesn't really do it justice in my opinion. My thoughts on Invincible continuing is that they could definitely expand the universe. I was hoping for a spinoff series. But it seems unlikely as they've only put out a few one shot comics set in the Invincible universe.
