Solstafir is Icelandic for Sun Beam. Interesting that an american black metal would choose to use that particular word. But its one of the most memorable parts of the song. That scream stays with you. The riffs and solo are killer in this track. Ultimately I'd have to say its my favorite from them. Pretty much all Agalloch is good though.
I grew up in Virginia and we got snow semi regularly. Sometimes alot of it. Much more common know with the changing of our global climate. But I always did and still do love snow and winter in general. Which I know is funny coming from a guy who lives in Florida, where winter barely exists. I suppose this time of year, I always miss the winter and thats a big part of why I chose this song now. Also it just highlights how important it is that we protect this incredible planet we live on. It was here long before, and it will be here long after us, its true. But if we aren't careful, we won't be around much longer to continue to appreciate its beauty. Humans are by far the most destructive creatures living on this planet to the environment, its shameful.
Stylistically these guys are doom, folk, black and shoegaze all kinda wrapped up into one. And each one of their albums is pretty different. This is one of their heavier efforts (as an album). I second Vin's comment at the end. Get out, take a walk and enjoy the beauty of the natural world that surrounds you. I'll say it now cause I may not get the chance to say it before Christmas, but I hope you all (Villagers and the Vin and Sori family alike) have a Happy Holidays.

I lived in Virginia for 38 years prior to moving to southern Louisiana. The one thing I miss more than anything in life currently is snow fall in the mountains away from everyone and everything. This band always reminds me of that.

Winter and Agalloch just fit perfectly together, it's what I listen to while running\walking outside these days. Definitely one of my favourite bands, too bad I hopped in that train way too late, and then the singer\guitarist alienated the rest of the band (hell, he already did it to his next band, with just a couple lines on facebook), so I'll never get to enjoy this live.
It was actually this song that got me on board at first, "love at first melody". Over a year ago when people were requesting mainly "In the Shadow of the Pale Companion", i thought Vin might not care much about this one because there aren't that many lyrics in it (and at the time I didn't think he enjoyed this type of instrumental as much as he does now)... I was clearly wrong, again :D
I could mention other favorite Agalloch songs, but what's so great about it is that i don't even care... apparently "Falling Snow" is coming, it's not even on my top3 for the Album (and my favorite album is "The Mantle"), but i'll definitely enjoy it anyway, because most of the songs are just so good.

Love this song. Brings me back to a certain time in my life when I first discovered this band many years ago. Coming from liking more traditional metal, and a bit of folk this band is what got me into black metal, actually. There's some really good music in this whole varied post-black, blackgaze, atmospheric black metal sphere of music, but so far it seems you've not really enjoyed much of it, (like You were but a ghost in my arms by Agalloch you didn't seem to like, or anything by Burzum) So maybe this will act as your gateway band like it did for me.
Also, there's a longer version of this song available. This is the videoclip/radio version. Its strength is in its length and the trance you get into listening this.

I'm not surprised this song was chosen, since it's the most popular song from the band with over a million views, not my favourite though. Limbs is the other one from the album that I dig immensely. I wouldn't call Agalloch a black metal band. I just hear elements of folk and progressive metal in their songs. The black metal influences were prominent on Marrow of the Spirit and maybe to an insignificant extent on Pale Folklore.

amber streams from sol are not unlike the waves *professor mode activated* totally apparent, that Haughm was just referencing the physical nature of photons - light - in that they can act as particles or waves (wave-particle-dualism), so they are not unlike waves, but also are not like waves. *prof. mode deactivated*. yeah, totally not a metaphoric language that was the goal here.

You two need to do a review of Tom MacDonald either "White Boy", "Politically Incorrect", "Helluvit", or "This House/Response to White Boy"... I also suggest Rollins Band "Just Like You." From his End Of Silence" album.

Ancient - The Cainian Chronicle: Lilith's Embrace

The official video? :) This can be interesting. especially when they get to snake guy...
But honestly, Ancient's early works are pretty underrated. The Canian Chronibles was very ambitious, their debut very very decent, and Trolltaar
      and Det glemte riket
      have some timeless BM songs...

@@squashedeyeball Yeap. But honestly the video sucks xD. I think Cain's hypothetical path is a very interesting topic.
