  • I was asked on my Instagram account this question: what to choose between X-E4 and X-T30. Here I my thoughts regarding this decision after long term use of Fujifilm X-E4, Fuji X-E2s, Fuji X-Pro3, Fujifilm X100v and so on.

I also prefer the range-finder style of design. Which is how I originally ended up with a Panasonic GX85 in my collection, which also became my b-roll video camera as well as a secondary street camera. The GX85 (similar to the GX9) is a much older model now, however it is still is one of the most underrated cameras for what it can do. It's a little beast, produces excellent 4k video stabilized. When I started to look towards Fuji, I wanted both a workhorse body and a secondary backup - something small for street shooting (aside from my Ricoh GRIII). If my Ricoh GRIII ever died, I might consider an x100v. But I know I would miss the extra compactness of the GR. I was looking at an XE4 very seriously for a while. But the big issue I have is the lack of dials and buttons. Plus it didn't feel quite as well built as the xt30. There is a cable in the pull down LCD that looked like it could break off if I wasn't careful. I didn't like that cable being exposed. Not a good design. The xt30 felt much more solid in the hand, more customizable, a better balance of buttons and command dials that I'm used to. It reminds me of my Olympus OM-D cameras in terms of ergonomics. If I come across a used xe2s or xpro 2 at a good price in good condition, I might pick it up. I hear the version 2 and 3 x-trans sensors had a special quality about them. I am still considering the x-pro 3 camera - but best to wait and see what Fuji might come out with over the next year. Some further announcement and releases coming - Fujji X Summit on May 31, 2022. This is a good time to take a pause and see what comes next. I'm in no rush. I should say that I did buy the xt30 with no regrets (not the Mark 2). Great camera. I got a really good deal I couldn't resist. I added a thumb and hand grip (I have large hands) and it fits like a glove. I stick my 35mm f1.4 on it and go. That Fuji 35mm f1.4 is a dream lens, especially on the newer versions of Fuji body's. I have no issues with its auto focus speed. The results of the images are stellar, particularly as a portrait lens it is a fantastic. Very versatile all around. I have used it on professional gigs no problem.

Agree that he GX85 is pretty cool. Love it/hate it/can’t sell it because it does so many things good enough. But for photos only, the X-E1, 2, or 2s are really cool. Like Tudor said, the ergos went downhill on the X-E4 and that really takes away from the experience.

Yes! I've forgot about that cable.... 😁
I like GX85 too for the price and I'm tempted to get one for video too for the top shot - it's small with good 4k video.

Thank you for confirming this for me. I have the x-t30ii and just picked up an x-e2. I feel that the two compliment each other nicely. the x-e4 was great autofocus, but returned it because I felt that the x-t30ii was too similar and gave me the same options. So now I have a modern camera plus a rangefinder and satisfied!

I have an X-E2s and love it, even though I also have a pair of X-T3 bodies and an Xpro2.
The 16mp sensor in the X-E2s gives a very film-like look. I bought the Lensmate thumb grip designed for this camera and it really enhances the handling.
My more modern bodies are great when I have a specific subject and need the insurance of redundancy (multiple bodies).
When I need a camera... just in case then the X-E2s is in my hand more often than not.
FWIW... Just my opinion, but after trying to like the feature and being frustrated by it, I have disabled all the touch screens on all my bodies that have them. Too many times I'd lift the camera to my eye and my nose swipes the screen causing the camera to go to some random setting or my focus point would not be where I left it earlier. I want total control viabuttons, dials. Switches... not accidentally swiping the screen right before I try to take a once in a lifetime shot.

I agree with the findings. I bought two XE2s and screwed a 18 f/2 and 35 f/1.4 instead of buying a X100V or XPro3. I does what i want and yes, The colours including B&W JPEGs are really impressive for every day documentation.

Agree 100%. X-E2s = “maximum mojoness!” BTW a list of all X-Trans sensors and the bodies they come on can be found here en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fujifilm_X-Trans_sensor

I have the xe2s and the xt30. I love my xt30, but I enjoy shooting my xe2s more. I also don't feel the resolution is lacking compared to my xt30 either.

totally get how you feel..there is something special about that xtrans 2 sensor on xe2s,xpro1s and x70s..btw would love to have your opinion..İ'm torn between 23mm f2 and 18mm f2..what would be your choice? have already a 27mm pancake but looking for something wider..Thanks a lot sir..

Thanks 🙏 it's really hard. With 23mm f2 you'll have a very performat lens but it's very close to the 27mm. Also with 18mm you can enter in sports finder mode and you'll get a 35mm field of view. But the AF it's no so silent as the 23mmf2... I'm ok with the lens performance and really love the 18mmf2.... But that lens it's not for everybody (check my review of that lens here ruclips.net/video/xflLlY4d9sY/видео.html). My recommendation it's 27mm+18mmf2.. (and I have a video prepared about this combo on X-Pro3) but in the end it depends entirely on personal choice.

I feel I could get a lot of great info from you, BUT, I can't seem to understand you very well because you speak too fast and the heavy accent just makes it too hard.
It took me quite awhile to understand you were saying XE2S. That's my favorite Fuji camera and I want nothing to do with no D-pads . I like more fn buttons and no touch screen. I'll just stay with my XE-1 , XE2S and XT1's and I'll be very happy !
You know what would make me happiest would be a remake of the XE-1 and X Pro 1 with more professional features like good focus peaking and better processing controls and built in neutral density filters would be awesome. Would also love to have two way tiltable screens . But keep the older X Tran 1 and 2 sensors as I feel I like the more film like quality. I seem to carry my XE2S more than any others and no longer feel any need to get their so called improvements ! Thanks, Larry

Am vandut a7ii ul pentru x100v, sper sa nu-mi para rau. E ceva special la xtrans 2, in 90% din cazuri xe2 vine cu mine in loc de xt4.
