I need to admit, the big influence that make me sure to buy a camera and going for a walk, taking pictures, and to continue my hobby is this channel. Thanks Faizal 🖤
That was the clearest explanation of back button focus I've heard. Now I get it! And I've had my XE4 for several month now and never noticed the P or A settings. I'm going to try them out and see how it works for me and the way I shoot.
Thanks for all the hard work Faizal. This was super beautiful. Love all the static sequences. I could honestly watch this over and over. Hope you are well.
@@FaizalWestcott it really shows! I think the opening song created the right mood and sets it apart from the previous videos. It reminded me a lot of your chinatown video, which is one of my favorites.

I just received a rental X-E4 this afternoon. I immediately put the 35mm f/2 on it as that seems like a perfect match. I came by to see how you set your camera up and you provided some good insight. Thank you.
I share a lot of your thoughts about this camera. A lot of people complaining about the missing switch button for af mode and the "over" minimalist took compared to the X-E3. I come from the Canon world, with an old trusty / heavy / chonky 5DMKII. When i've choosen to switch to Fuji, it was so "refreshing" (not sure if this is the right expression in english). I rediscovered the joy to shoot with a simple camera, like i did it with all my old film cameras. I don't really need that much, aperture / shuttering speed / exposure compensation and that's all ! Then just go shoot ! No overthinking, complicated workflow or whatsoever. And as many, it was hard to choose between the X-E4 and the X100V. But to not limit my "vision", to be able to change lenses was the good reason that i choose the X-E4. And finally, it's one of the cheapest camera from fuji and in that specific range compared to other brand. But you keep all the advanced technology from the flagship. That's just amazing ! As usual Faizal, you make really good content. I really like what you share and the way you doing it. Keep it up ! (greeting from France)
I am a retired senior & hobby photographer, & first time watching your excellent video presentation. Recently purchased a X-E4 a few months ago & enjoy it's simplicity. I robbed the Fuji 18-55 & 70-300 lens from my 2 1/2 year old X-T3 which is in dire need of some use, but the X-E4 has taken precedence. My new 23 mm f1.4 WR LM Fuji came in a few days ago & looking forward to some prime shooting with it. That's about as far as I intend to go with lens acquisitions. I reviewed dozens of my photos & found my fl was closer to 23 than 35, hence the choice. The 70-300 is getting a major workout with the local breakfast club squirrels & birds at my feeder. Am also a new subscriber.
Excellent video, Faizal! Such a beautiful short film vibe that really captures what you do and how this camera works for you. I found your channel a long while back when I first got the X100V. But I have really grown to just love your style and the methodology behind how you see things and shoot. Such an inspiration to me. Take care, my friend!
For you making a one year “Experience” video I do appreciate. For anything gear or tech related a lot of people will do 1 week, 1 month of 3 month video over using gear for that duration of time. Which I think is ridiculous since that’s not enough time really to fine tune your likes and dislikes since things can change. Where a one year review overview can speak volumes on what the gear was like to use/own and how your likes can become dislikes and vice versa with the dislikes to likes. Top-notch as always! Fuji film really is one of those brands everyone should at least one point try to test out and own👌🏼
The video I've been waiting on! I have serious interest in purchasing this camera. Especially for EDC carry. Thanks so much for diving into the details and sharing your experience!
If you want the ultimate lens combination for the X-E4 to be compact and stealthy, you should look at the XF27mmF2.8 R WR, which is a pancake lens that is the equivalent of a 40mm lens. It's a good compromise focal lengthwise and a good choice for street work too. Great video 👍
@@worldseries1998 the new one isn't, but its optics and mechanics (including the slightly dodgy autofocus, unfortunately!) are exactly the same as the old version and those are really easy to find used for less than half the SRP of the new version. @Mac Jim how do you find the 27mm compares to other lenses like the 35mm or 23mm f/2's? I'm currently looking at these lenses and trying to weigh up which will suit me best. I like the idea of the focal length of the 27mm as a goldilocks between the two f/2 lenses, and the tiny form factor is definitely a big plus, but I don't just shoot street and I'm worried the f/2.8 isn't going to be fast enough for shooting indoors in lower light. How do you find it? Do you think I could I get away with it as my main lens or is it more of a specialised street lens that needs something else in the bag to supplement it?
Oddly enough I was able to pick up my Xe4 with this specific lens in a kit for 1499 AUD ($1032) which is gladly $100 bucks off retail for the body and lens kit). I'm also about to attain a 35mm f1.4 over the f2 variant for better lower light performance as I find the 27mm f2.8 slightly lacking in the low-light department. (also I'm no expert as I am new to photography, but I tried out a 35mm f1.4 in comparison to my 27mm f2.8 and the differences in low light performance was night and day haha).
I love using manual lenses on my X-E4 because it makes me to slow down and be more precise and creative. I use a 1950s Leica 35mm F3.5 Summaron most of the time because it's a brilliant classic lens with a very compact form factor and bags of character. When I need something a bit more fast and technical I have a modern Voigtlander 40mm F1.4 I also use a 1970s Leica 50mm F2 Summicron. All three of these lenses are compact due to the lack of electrics. I have two AF lenses I also use, a 56mm F1.2 and a 27mm F2.8 so appreciate your advice on back button focussing which I will use. Thumbs up for this very inspiring presentation. ps.I recommend a Black Rapid strap which attaches underneath via the tripod mount.
Nice video Faizel, thanks for making it. Speaking as somebody who owns an X100V, I have a sneaky suspicion the X-E4 offers better value for money and added versatility. But for my own day to day I opt for the V 90% of the time, I also have an X-T3 with a few lenses. Ease of use and portability are huge factors in people's decision making when out using their cameras. Good things come in small packages!
Hi. Best how to and beginner setup and choices explanation I've seen so far. I'll still keep my Sony A7 R3 but I've chosen this little XE4 and the 35 mm F2 to get lighter when traveling.
I bought the Fuji XE-4 yesterday I have to say that you videos of this camera were helpful. You talked about technical stuff but really I enjoyed more your approach as a photographer what the camera makes you feel and how do you feel when you get out with this camera. I wish everybody can talk from the photographer’s perspective more.

This camera is the most aesthetically pleasing camera to my eyes! Also thanks to this camera i found your channel so its a win win. I dont even shoot fuji lol
I copied your idea from your previous videos - I bought an X-E4 and adapted a Voigtländer Nokton 40mm f1.4 on it (instead of Minolta, but looks somewhat similar), it's the best industrial design combination among the camera combinations I have ever had so far. I'm not even trying to compare it to Leica - it's a different camera, it has different design, it isn't trying to be Leica, it's just one of the industrial design cameras and it's good, it serves its purpose. one thing I agree with you from this video is that even though I like the design of the strap eyelets, they're pain in the ass
Nice review, I’m old school though and still use the focus and shutter button for what it’s always been set at. If I’m doing some fixed shots, I can just turn the focus to manual. But whatever works for each individual. Never cared much for the 35 mm range, but love the 50 F2, 75 mm equivalent. 🖖
Just rewatched the video again, Faisal. With reference to the camera sustains wear marks from the triangular loops (which I have somewhere) I use the Peak Design quick disconnect system. Can’t cause any damage. I learn something every time I rewatch the video(s). Could be a senior’s memory capacity too…… have to turn off spell check..
I've had the Fuji xt1 and xt10, and now have a Fujifilm xe3 with 23mm f2 - it has definitely become my favourite combination for pretty much everything. Prior to that, the Lumix GX80 with 25mm was my main camera for years.
Faizal! Question for you, my guy: I'm a semi-professional photographer shooting about two gigs a week. Mostly portraits, headshots, engagements, and family sessions. I'm currently on an X-T2, but I am thinking about switching to an X-E4. Do you think the camera has what it takes to be my main camera?
Bought a fairly well used '4 today. Came with a Viltrox 56, and the 23mm f2. I also picked up the 35 1.4. It is a much different system than Sony, which I came from. I am smitten. Photography feels enjoyable again.

Hi, i just buy xe4+18mm f2. I see u use 35mm F1,4 i used to had the lens. I love u use it when i traveling. Had two lens kit 16-50 and 35mm f1,4. I often use the 35. I love that lens so much, kinda missed it though😂 the problem is if i shoot on tight place i had pull back few steps. But sometimes still don’t get the wide view that i wan😅hope i enjoy shoot with my new camera + i have to adjust with my new lens also😊 nice video and great shots!👍👍👍
I hated the X-E4 losing so many controls especially the focus lever. However, I have been able to make a solution that is surprisingly so much better, IMO. I ended up assigning the Q button to Select Custom Settings. While on the Off custom settings, I have set it to manual focus only with focus peaking. Then on C1, I set AF-S as the focus setting with AF Mode set to single point AF. On C2, I set to AF-C with the AF Mode on Tracking with Eye AF turned on. Meanwhile on the focus lever, I set the tilt to Direct AF Point / Face Selection. This way, I simply press the Q button to select between Off (MF), C1 (AF-S), C2 (AF-C) with each one having the appropriate AF settings for single point and tracking already set. Bonus is on AF-C, Face/Eye AF is already enabled when shooting people and I can select different faces depending on the situation and focus continuously OR I can also just press the focus lever to switch to using the focus box to continuously track whatever I pointed it to (like real time tracking).
To solve the issue on strap loops, I bought a Peak Design leash. A bit expensive but it perfectly fits with small bodies like X-E, and no more body wear thanks to polyamide strap ends. About your focus settings at 6:38 I am a bit surprised, I suppose that your focus mode is AF and not MF? Then with AF+MF ON, you can still manually focus with the lens focus ring.
Wonderful job on the video! This camera as such a vibe to it, I'd love to test it! It seems like the perfect camera for a family: user friendly enough for the beginner, while maintening that Fuji high quality for more experienced users
You convinced me to get the xe4, the xpro3 have the screen class action lawsuit and the x100v don’t have the interchangeable lens ( all the others are not my style ) the only downside is no weather sealing so I guess just have to baby it.
I'm recently getting back into photography and absolutely love your content! You inspire me to get back into it even more! A couple of questions: - What lens hood do you use for the 35mm and do you see a big difference in using it? - I also have the 35mm and the biggest downside I've had with it is that it's a fixed lens. Any tips on working around fixed lenses like this?
Oof these tips are worth gold, thanks Faizal!!! I’m debating between xe4 and xpro3 and will test them tomorrow but my heart kinda says xe4 cause of the size and minimalism not having a lot of buttons to remember.
awesome upload Faizal :) I recently got an xe4 and am loving it! the weight and form factor of the xt4 and 16-55 f2.8 was too cumbersome to carry around

Great video! I had exactly the same issue with the strap lugs, with some minor damage. I just use a material wrist strap now.
Thx, best x-e4 decision review for me
Wonderful job on the video!
This was a really sensible setup. I learned a few things. Thanks.
I'm recently getting back into photography and absolutely love your content! You inspire me to get back into it even more! A couple of questions:
- What lens hood do you use for the 35mm and do you see a big difference in using it?
- I also have the 35mm and the biggest downside I've had with it is that it's a fixed lens. Any tips on working around fixed lenses like this?
Having a fixed lens just means you have to use your feet more, be ready to move to adjust your frame rather than zooming.
He didnt even reply to you 😂 sad
Great video! I just got mine and loving it so far. Gonna try out your back button focus method 🤔
Oof these tips are worth gold, thanks Faizal!!! I’m debating between xe4 and xpro3 and will test them tomorrow but my heart kinda says xe4 cause of the size and minimalism not having a lot of buttons to remember.
Great tips. I’ll try the camera setup recommendations next time I’m out.
Thanks Joe!
awesome upload Faizal :) I recently got an xe4 and am loving it! the weight and form factor of the xt4 and 16-55 f2.8 was too cumbersome to carry around
